First time trying the brunch after many dinner visits. Started with cocktails and both were really good. The Greenhouse Bloody Mary was lighter and fresher than a typical Bloody, made with an in-house clarified celery juice base that gave it a really bright flavor. We also tried the Rhubarb Sunrise with rhubarb purée and vodka, simple, refreshing, and super easy to drink. We started with the crab cocktail: chilled crab leg meat over ice with lemon and cocktail sauce. Really fresh and simple in the best way. The salad ended up being one of our favorite things we ordered. Fresh greens, snap peas, pistachios, feta, mint, dill, and a grilled lemon vinaigrette. Super refreshing and kind of addictive. The server did a great job with the timing of the food which is always appreciated, so you don't feel rushed. We split the pork belly benedict and it was excellent, rich smoky pork belly, perfectly poached eggs, and a really solid hollandaise. The potatoes were crispy and nicely seasoned too. The French toast was ridiculously good. Thick-cut with a crunchy caramelized outside and soft custardy center, topped with strawberry-rhubarb and fresh whipped cream. Sweet but not too heavy because the rhubarb balanced everything out. By the time 11:00 rolled around the restaurant started to fill up, if you want to come when they open at 10 you could probably get in without a reservation or sit at the bar. The outdoor patio was also open and looked nice. Finished with a michelada made with pilsner, vodka, Bloody Mary mix, and a shrimp garnish. Awesome food and cocktails like always from Oxbow. Our rsvp was for 7:15pm so we were happy to sit at the bar. It's the Winter Olympics 2025 watching the curling event. Was an interesting strategic sport! I had the Oxbow Fashioned (Smoked) was was awesome. I also had another as non-smoked. I love their bitters they make - so good either way! The bartender, Abby is an amazing mixologist! We opted to eat at a cocktail table near the bar. I had The Burger which is a wagyu burger that was cooked med and was messy so I knew it would be delicious and it was! The fries are also a treat. I love crispy fries. So good! The house made pickles are delicious. You should try them! My dinner partner had the Fajita Board which they thoroughly enjoyed (I could tell because they were busy eating and not talking - hah ha ha haha ha!). They said it was spicy but not overly so and very flavorful. Hmm, I'm going to have to try that.next visit! What an awesome dinner. Oxbow has come so far since we first came out when they started. Our second chance for this place went down in flames . We live near by and really wanted to like this place. Second time around. Wedge salad (not bad itself). My husband added steak as a side and I added prawns. Steak was the quality of Applebee's. Not seasoned. Though. Not cooked well. The 3 prawns were tasteless. Warmed up on a grill no seasoning. No drinks just one coke for my husband. Bill? $100. I kid you not. The addition of the prawns was $15 we were charged $20 for 3 prawns on the bill. Didn't even bring it up just paid and left. So sad. We would have loved to have a nice sit down restaurant near by but this unfortunately is not the place. Also, just a side note. This is a LOUD bar atmosphere. I'm nearly never a complainer but the sheer number of flies and gnats landing on the food inside the restaurant and one flew into my drink and stayed there the whole meal ruined the meal for my girlfriend. And they forgot her drink. That's ridiculous for Pierce County. This isn't Medina or Bellevue. The happy hour left me unhappy. Totally over it. Went several times just to make sure it wasn't an isolated instance. My friend brought me here as a late birthday dinner. We didn't have a reservation and were told we'd have to sit in the bar because they had so many reservations which was strange because there wasn't anyone at tables and some tables remained empty the whole time we were there. But alas, are server we got was great. She was nice and checked in but not overly so. The salmon was delicious and perfectly cooked. The Ol' Cubano is a play on an old fashion but with rum. The only disappointment was the dessert... it was just okay. The texture wasn't very creamy and I'm still uncertain where the brûlée played into it. I'm really disappointed writing this because the food at Oxbow Urban Kitchen has genuinely been some of my favorite in the area. We've enjoyed coming here before, which made this experience even more upsetting. My husband and I came in with our two young kids (5 and 2) after our oldest's soccer game. Any parent of small children knows that eating at a restaurant with toddlers is basically a live crisis-management exercise disguised as brunch. Everyone was hungry, tired, overstimulated, and we were doing our best to keep things calm and respectful. The restaurant brought crayons and kids menus/drawing papers for the kids. Both kids were coloring while we waited for food. At one point my toddler briefly started drawing on the nearby window with a crayon. My husband noticed it, I immediately took the crayon away, moved him away from the window, and continued trying to juggle him while also keeping my older child occupied with tic tac toe. This was already after my toddler had spilled a full cup of water all over the floor under our table. A male employee, possibly the manager, then came over and very rudely told me that kids are not allowed to draw on the windows. I acknowledged it immediately and explained that I had just stopped him, but he continued lecturing me in a condescending tone about how "it's not okay." The interaction felt completely unnecessary and honestly humiliating, especially because it was directed entirely at me, in front of my children, while my husband sat right there. To be clear: my toddler is two years old. He made a few crayon marks, not permanent damage with a Sharpie. We had already corrected the behavior before the employee approached us. At that point, what a parent needs is a little grace, not a public scolding while trying to hold everything together. What made it worse was the lack of basic hospitality throughout the situation. The floor beneath us was soaked from the spilled water and nobody offered to help clean it up. My husband eventually had to ask the server later. Afterward, my husband spoke privately with the employee and explained that he didn't appreciate the way I had been spoken to. Instead of taking accountability, the response was defensive and centered around how his own kids "aren't allowed to draw on windows" and how hard crayon is to clean off. We received what felt like a very performative apology rather than genuine understanding. Again, the food here is very good. That's why this was so disappointing. But for families with small children, especially mothers who are already doing mental gymnastics to keep everyone regulated in public, the way we were treated was uncomfortable, condescending, and unnecessarily hostile. read more

This is a somewhat upscale spot with a laidback yet lively atmosphere. The restaurant and restrooms are always clean, which I really appreciate. The first level of the dining area is centered around the bar, with seating that wraps around it, and if you're sitting downstairs you can also see straight into the kitchen. The bar TVs always have games on, making it a great place to hang out without feeling too casual. The food and desserts are definitely on the greasy and in my opinion is on the bland side, lacks character, or way too sweet/lack character. Portions are perfect. The music playlist is always a vibe sets the mood perfectly. The servers and bartender are awesome definitely one of a kind servers. Came here on a self date on a Saturday I got sat right away around 6 in the bar. One thing I will say is don't expect immediate service or food. It is definitely a spot you get wine and a few appetizers for a business dinner. I waited around 15 minutes to get greeted which is a track record because I was here before with family same deal. The BLT buns I had were good but just too much bun. If the meat was cut in pieces instead of a brick of belly it would be a better texture and bite. Honestly didn't want to wait longer on an entree so I got a dessert. I got the molten lave cake and whoever is the pastry chef deserves a very tall chefs hat. Super decadent and the berries and whipped cream gave it a tart and light sidekick! Wouldn't recommend this for a quick spot but it's a lovely view and good drink menu. read more

My daughter and I came out to stop by. This place is modern and nice. Parking is great. We were greeted and sat at a table the staff was nice but seemed insincere. I only mention this because I've been in the customer business for over 20+years and you can tell. I appreciate the effort though. So we ordered our food and waited till our food came. Slowly, the food started to arrive, appetizer then entrèes. One of our apps were given to another table so we ended up waiting a bit longer but comped for it. That was very kind of them. Our server kept dropping items. I honestly was t impressed with much of the food. Lacked so much flavor and texture. The best thing we ate was the tart cherry butter for the bread. I ordered the halibut fish and chips and my daughter had the salmon with puréed potatoes and roasted veggies. Hers had the truffle oil which, to me, overwhelmed the flavor of the entire dish. As a Sumner resident since 2023, I'm a fish out of water, having grown in the densely populated urban centers of coastal CA. But the town has a lot of jewels. However, it has few fine dining joints, so I am grateful for Oxbow. This is ouyr third time here since we moved here. Tonight, my wife and I celebrated a 'work victory' of mine. I've had fish and pork entrees in past visits. This time it was wagyu. While by appearance I thought it was overcooked to my taste, the flavor punched a knockout and it was as moist as I could ask. They also care about wine, and particularly WA wine, of which I proclaim myself chief nerd. I had a great Cab from Walla Walla that I haven't had before. Sorry, I didn't think to take a picture until I finished my steak. But my wife loved the berry cobler. The bill will punch above the typical Puyallup river valley belt. But it is worth it for something special without heading to Tacoma or Seattle. read more

Called around 3:30 to make a 4:00/15 reservation for a larger party (6-8, maybe 9 while we waited for teenagers to decide if they were joining). We all were arriving from 40min away so wanted to get as early as possible. Constant ringing, never went to voicemail. Made an online reservation that only allowed a max of 4 under my name. Attempted to make another under my name but the system recognized I already had one so I made an additional under my spouse's name. We arrived with the whole party (minus one en route). Identified myself as the 2 reservations for 4:15p since the system wouldn't allow duplicates. The hostess (possibly the manager) smiled condescendingly and said "that's why we have you call us." To which I responded "I tried but there was no answer". (Also, this is my family's second trip here in about 2 years, so it wasn't like we were familiar). Someone in my party asked if we could just put two tables together (in an empty restaurant). The hostess put 2 tables together, and then our additional teen showed up so we needed another chair. I offered to have 4 on my side or if wasting another table was best for 1 more chair. Hostess decided another table was ok. In our party were two high-profile local businesses that pay for business meetings/ meals for a lot of local clients in the area. Hopefully there's a better system in place for large-party same-day reservations when phones are not being answered less than an hour before opening. Stars for the waitstaff's kindness and professionalism, and all meals were great value & flavor for the costs. This was our first time coming here. We have been wanting to try it and I am so happy we finally made it here. The building is beautiful, but I will say the first thing I noticed was how loud it was. It was very distracting and it was hard for my husband and I to have a conversation without feeling like I was yelling the entire time. Another downside was the bathroom. A space that large with the capacity for that many people should have more than just 2 restrooms. The food was delicious and so were the drinks. My only gripe about the food was that the steak was served on top of the frites. It's just inconvenient and it comes across as lazy presentation. Some people may be into fries covered in steak juice, but I personally prefer my fries crispy. It was of course inconvenient to cut the steak if it's on a bed of fries. The bao buns were incredible and a must have as a starter. The service was great and it was nice to see the chef come out and serve some of our plates. We will definitely be back, but it is not a casual dinner night. The price point is very high and will be more of a special occasion place for us. read more

2.5 to 3 stars for me. My first time here was with a friend for what we thought would be dinner, but after seeing the prices per dish, we decided to just split two dishes to minimize the expenses. The drinks are already $15+ each, so we were already at $30 for just 2 drinks. We split the $23 ravioli and the $15 brussel sprouts (the latter is the price for an app!) Both were tasty, yes, but the prices were a bit ridiculous for a common pasta dish and brussel sprouts. My second experience here was yesterday. It was empty and we were glad they took us in without a reservation for a late-ish lunch. Again, my party (parents and spouse) thought the prices were kind of wild, so my parents opted for two salads and a claw chowder, while my husband stuck to the shrimp app and a bourbon. I myself also got a drink and then the chicken. We ordered bread, which with their prices, should be complimentary. What is there to say about the salads? It's just lettuce with some sauce. My chicken dish was fine, nothing to return for. It came with mash and some veggies, some which were really hard (it was zucchini and a mystery beige veggie that was VERY crunchy). The most laughable was the shrimp appetizer. $17 for a small pile of shrimp with store bought tasting cocktail sauce was just sad. Our waiter was nice, but kind of dropped off from checking in on us after a gentleman requested to sit outside. Again, it was just our table and him. Also, there were some young looking kitchen staff goofing off outside, by the trash, which isn't super professional looking. Idk, if you're okay paying ridiculous Seattle based prices for a restaurant in Sumner, be my guest. I think it's overpriced and pretentious, and the chairs are uncomfortable lol. read more

I have been wanting to go here for a while. We came on a Monday evening. We got outdoor seating right away. Our waitress was very nice very sweet. They have a nice mix of different foods on the menu. We had the fish and chips, and the tenderloin steak with crab legs. When the food was delivered, it was nice and hot. The fish was fantastic. Fluffy in the middle crispy on the outside. The steak was cooked to perfection, and the truffle mashed potatoes were amazing! The only thing I would do different is I did not like the steak sauce, it was a little too sweet and I would've liked it more tangy. Other than that, this is a must go. read more

This is a must try spot in Sumner! We ordered the Chilean Sea Bass and 10oz Steak. You have to get the steak with a truffle mashed potatoes! The miso sea bass is not over powering with miso and was flaky to touch. The steak was cooked well, but the highlight was the truffle mashed potatoes. The main issue we had was with a party of 5, everyone received their entrees except for one person, they said it would just a be a couple minutes, ended up being like 20-30 minutes and everyone at the table was pretty much done with their meal when the last person finally received theirs. It was not a good look for them if they are trying to be this nice fancy restaurant in town then you really shouldn't be making those kinds of mistakes. They did comp the meal that was brought out super late, but honestly that didn't really mean much, we were there to have a great dining experience and it's just awkward for everyone to be enjoying their food while one person sits and waits forever to get their food. read more

Super glad I saw the billboard for the restaurant earlier in the week on HWY 167. Was in the neighborhood today and decided to stop and have some lunch. I guess I really haven't been around the area recently as they been open for more than year. Saturday and Sunday they do brunch, and have live music on the patio pending on weather. There is plenty of parking with EV charging station, so a great place to bring all your friends. Lots of signature cocktails, and full bar. The service and food were great, and will be back for sure to try the regular dinner menu soon. I'm intrigued be the 24 oz ribeye .
