It's bizarre to me that I've never left a review. It saddens me that in approximately nine weeks their doors will close because the building is being sold. This club is one of inclusion at the highest level. Everyone is welcome. Everyone is loved. Everyone is having a blast. This disco hosts electrifying dance nights where the deejay continually spins flawless sets of music with tunes that have you dancing the night away. Everyone who works there is a rockstar. This is such a fun place to go to hangout with friends, dance and sing karaoke. Very dive bar vibe with drinks served in plastic cups and limited places to sit. Fun people and the staff were great. My only complaint is that in order to sing, the bigger the tip to the deejay, the more likely you'll be able to get up and sing. We were there a few hours and signed up right away to sing. Gave $5 and my friend threw in $10 and we weren't called up to sing. There were a few that got up multiple times to sing in that same time frame. So that was my only reason for taking off a star. The deejay was raking in the tips and making it not an equal opportunity type thing. So plan on spending strip club cash to song karaoke here or just enjoy the vibe and don't bother participating doing a song or two. read more

NEVER GO HERE!!! I recently visited in Austin with friends, expecting a safe and enjoyable evening. Unfortunately, it turned into a scary experience. While we were there, a group attempted to steal my phone. The man posing as a magician and his accomplice were behind the theft, and shockingly, the bartender seemed to be in on it. After a 20-minute search and using the "Find My iPhone" feature, we located my phone in the accomplice's hand. As I was telling the bartender my phone was stolen, he had me write down my phone number (like that would help) and as I was doing so I literally heard my phone pinging in the thief's hand.When we asked the bartender about involving security or the police, he dismissively told us they had no security and that calling the cops would be useless. He also told us just to "let it go" once we located my phone. The thief herself even said "I own this place," so I suppose she is the owner? We pinged my phone 20+ times to try and locate it, the thieves were directly across from the bar so I'm certain the bartender heard it. This response was deeply unsettling, showing a complete lack of concern for patrons' safety. After leaving, the thieves then tried to intimidate us in a large group by watching us get in our car for 5+ minutes and waiting as if they will follow us. Avoid this place if you value your security and safety. This kind of negligence and complicity is unacceptable. These photos/videos are the best I can provide of the thieves. I do plan on filing a police report as well. The "magician" is extremely bearded with long hair (think Gandalf w brown hair) and the thief herself is next to him in the zoomed in photo. read more

This place is a gem. The night started with an ABBA cover band and the owner DJ'd to a basically full dance floor until closing time. Great music, great dancing, great crowd, great patio area out back. It's a terrible shame that they're being made to close. Enjoy this place while you can, Austin. read more

I was excited to dance and came at about midnight on a Saturday. There was a line, but it moved fast. Cover was only $5 a person. We were in line for only 5 or 10 minutes. I did not like this place though. As I walked in, it was super hot (hot yoga kinda hot), and it was already humid outside. I felt like I couldn't breathe. Fog machine seemed too active, also, and the music was way too loud. I had to block both ears. I, then, tripped because there's a platform to your left when you walk in with a step up. So, if you veer too much to the left into the crowd, you trip. I fell to the floor. It was packed! You'd think COVID never existed. The wait at the bar outside on the patio was awful (one guy getting swamped), so we did the bar inside. I like clubs, I do, but this was too much. I like the Rose Room and Barb's. This wasn't those places. A lot of Simpson's decor, if you're a fan. It seemed like a good crowd. Mixed that it was only $5 cover and a fast-moving line. I won't be going back. Too many things would have to be different (less crowded, lower music, less fog machine). read more

I love love love Outer Heaven - it's exactly the kind of place Austin was known for and that truly Keeps Austin Weird. Everyone there is super friendly and nice, the vibes are immaculate (seriously, the whole bar was singing along to a sad-ass Les Miserable song on a Thursday night) and the venue itself is the perfect mix of cool and weird. The art is stunning and fun, their karaoke nights are stellar and I cannot recommend this club enough. Outer Heaven is truly a haven in this mortal hellscape. Extremely dirty, and the Dj/owner is extremely rude and very disrespectful. He insinuated my wife was a prostitute and then flat out stayed she was only with me because I must have money. He gives off a very very sexist vibe, and apparently was getting into what seemed like a somewhat serious situation with a group of trans patrons that came in after us. The place seems very run down and the bathrooms are absolutely unsanitary,especially for a place that serves food/drinks. STAY AWAY!! read more

First and last time here. They snatched a drink out of my hand and a guy with a stupid mustache (not the same person who took the drink) started getting in my face telling me to get out. I was so confused and didn't want to leave the club alone as a single female. He was very rude and aggressive I began to cry and shake. The person working the door started to say that the drink I had wasn't sold there, implying I brought it in?! It was my second drink I got it from the bar outside and even tipped on it. The guy was clearly drunk because there was no reason to be so aggressive with me. I complied and left. Bad business and terrible service. No need to handle it like that. If they would have just explained it would've been fine. Just really upsetting as someone who never goes out to have a night ruined by the staff. P.s. I've worked in the industry so in what world would I risk breaking Texas' hardcore liquor laws? Better please to go with kind staff that actually watches out for their customers. read more

I don't appreciate being charged a cover and admitted entrance when you are obviously beyond capacity. Entered the club and could not move, then learned the front entrance was the only exit. My friends got chastised for trying to go out the back (bc the building was too packed to get back through the front). Just please don't charge me money to enter an unsafe over-capacity establishment. If it's free that's one thing but ideally businesses would respect guest safety regardless. read more

Was very excited to visit this place but was quickly disappointed. Walked in and the ambiance of the place was very nice and the place is very aesthetically pleasing. We went to the bar and that's when the night took a turn, we decided to order some shots with whiskey and was quickly told that they didn't have any Crown - the bartender stated "I know we're pretty basic here." Shouldn't a "basic" bar have the essentials, whiskey being one of them? I understand not having certain brands but it should be present in your bar. If you don't know how to make a drink, then just say that. We proceeded to order something "basic" like a vodka redbull, simple for the bartender to understand.... Or so we thought. It was by far the worst drink ever! (the drink itself is already questionable) but it was all bad, I ended up spitting the drink out right in the cup. The music was also not the vibe and we spent no more than 20 mins here. Honestly, wish I could give this place a zero.
