The place has a good concept to it having different size rooms to accommodate different sizes of groups. It is also bring your own drinks and food which is kind of cool because you have the choice to eat/drink what you please. We were in a medium size room that accommodates 12 people. It has the karaoke system along with books filled with songs in a few different languages, mainly asian languages but you can pretty much pull up any song you please because it's connected to youtube. it has a like a coffee table in the middle with benches going all around it against the walls. they provide you with provide you with two microphones and the sound is pretty good. The overall experience was fun. I would say the only vice is that it gets pretty warm in there and they said they had the AC on high. You can reserve by hourly slots I believe. Went for my friend's birthday celebration - after booking a week in advance. When our group arrived, we were told our room just "broke" and we could not be seen until hours later. We asked why we hadn't been informed before our arrival. Turns out they were lying and had double booked many of the rooms. Despite spending money to Uber our group there we were told we could come back and arrive again. The best they could do was a $20 discount. If they had been a bit nicer, I would have refrained from making a review, however this ruined our plans and our night. Severely disappointed with the customer service. The only good part about the interaction was Wayne, who offered to make it right the next time came. Problem is, I don't know if that will happen. read more

Overall, the place was just alright. I hadn't read any reviews before going but I do see that the same complaints that people have had for the past 5 years haven't been addressed. I also feel that we gave the place several chances to make things right but I guess they take the same attitude to listening to feedback from here. I won't be going back. The one perk I would say it had was that it is BYOB. Since it's karaoke, you're responsible for bringing the fun, but as a venue there were many shortcomings and I was on the fence of going down to two stars but the poor customer service made that an easy downgrade for me. We had a great time regardless and made the best of it. Having been to several other karaoke establishments, there were some things that you'd grow to expect that were missing. The equipment was outdated and there wasn't much in terms of newer selection. They did, however, have several different languages to choose from. Since we had several people it was important to have more than one microphone. We started with two but then one of them went out. After bringing it to the establishment's front desk, they took a look at it and didn't make any efforts to replace it with another one. The rooms are dark for a reason, if you turn the lights on or take a look at the ceiling, you're in for some surprises that might be related to the lack of ventilation. We were in one of the larger rooms with several people and it was getting hot in the room. We asked if there was a way to cool the room and they said that's as cool as it was going to get. read more

The place is pretty run down and the rooms are not clean. The music videos are not the actual music videos and instead weird trace videos of Thailand of some parts of Asia and the instrumental music is not the actual one from the song. They use covers of the song as the music and some are okay, but some are just way off, making the song sound weird. The remote for choosing songs is also really difficult to use so we wasted a lot of time trying to play songs which in turn lead to increased time and more money. The rate is $5/person/hour which is not bad, but there are other karaoke places in Austin that charge that same rate and their songs are more legit. read more

Went to Austin Karaoke with a group of 6 and had a private room. It's BYOB which of course made the night even better. The room was spacious and had fun lights. I think we booked for an hour or two and ended up asking if we could add one more hour. We had so much fun! The technology is very old school but it did not hinder our time at all. I am writing this just for others not to experience the same as what we did. First my advice is; 1) You and the place should agree on the price if you are under a specific budget (Don't go in the room before you get that information at the desk) 2)Never have them keep your ID (Maybe you can have them write some information down and return the ID to you) What happened was; My husband called the place and asked about some information such as price, open hours and basic rules there. That night, my husband, his friend and I went there at 6PM and enjoyed karaoke for four hours. When we tried to pay at the counter, we got charged more than what we were told on the phone. My husband told him about that, and the answer was "the person you talked was not me and our system is this, and this is the price." He got upset about the answer, he didn't apologize about the miscommunication as well. So he started blaming. He got too angry at that time, but me and our friend was calm and tried to pay the price. But the place got angry at my husband as well and just said "I'd rather police to solve the issue." and he called the police. After calling, he showed my husband's ID and said "This is your ID, right? We know your address too. If you don't pay, I don't return your ID." My husband got mad, and the boy still kept saying such things to threaten him. He basically ignored me and our friend also, even though we were saying we pay what he priced. The police came. We explained the situation. They got the ID back as it was not legal to keep any ID at the desk. And they talked and the boy gave us a tiny discount unwillingly. So even the third party's point of view, there was some issue about the situation, although he was expecting the police to help him. They actually helped us. It was very sad how the night was ended. My husband and his friend were always saying Austin Karaoke is the best in Austin, and they were so excited to go there. We did have a super nice time, singing and laughing. Until that thing happened. It was just a miscommunication and the person who talked on the phone had a wrong information, that's it. And if they apologized about that, we were willing to pay full price. But the answer was "I didn't talk on the phone and actual price is on the web. If you don't pay, I don't return your ID. I also got all your information. You are making trouble. I ask police to solve this issue." He opened the website in front of us too. We just wanted one apology. So anyway, if you are under a specific budget, you would like to make sure how much they will charge you hourly. There seems to be also a service fee as well. Facility itself is very clean and nice. I used to have such an amazing time here however in recent days, this place has brought me nothing but anxiety. They have a strangely strict cleaning policy that doesn't seem to accommodate the use of the room. If you spill water on the floor, it's a $20 charge, even if you clean it up with napkins yourself. In addition, the attitude is completely unjustified and surprising. They claim That sweeping the floor and lightly wiping the table is all that needs to happen to throughly clean the room. Yes, time slows down at Austin Karaoke, some might even say spins backward, and before you know it, your 6'5" buddy is making everyone imagine what Madonna might sound like -- if Madonna were some sort of truck driver or professional athlete wielding a Lone Star, the athlete's weapon of choice. I'm a little disappointed in the fact that some of the song volumes tilt heavily to the Korean side first (what are we, chopped liver? :)), but then again this is a place that's as popular with its regulars (both international and local) as one might potentially expect. This is a karaoke place. Meaning, it's not a bar that features a karaoke machine. This is Japanese-style private rooms where you can have your own party. It's BYOB, and they have some regular drinks and will serve you steamed dumplings in between your sets of Journey, Eminem, Backstreet, Josh Groban, 50 Cent, Katy Perry, and whatever else you might want to sing (that was a snapshot of part of ours). It's open until 4, we got there at midnight and stayed till 2. Dumpling and some Yakult (a Chinese light yogurt drink) cost us $15, and the room for 2 hours was $36. Split among the 5 of us, it's cheaper than bowling, but your voice will be more hoarse. This isn't a "come to Austin" and karaoke pitch - I just want to point out that there aren't that many cities that have dedicated karaoke places like this, and Austin has 2. You might want to check this one out. Also, don't be intimidated by the Chinese character remote control...you'll figure it out after a few minutes. My friends and I were visiting Austin for my birthday. We planned to go pretty far in advance so we didn't go on great days. It was when the cold hit, so many places were closed. We did have a reservation at 6 when they opened and we knew we were going to be drinking so we took an Uber to the location. We get there and they're closed. I understand being closed due to the weather but when you run a business where reservations are mandatory, you would think they would call and reschedule with you or offer you a refund for your money. Austin Karaoke is the cleanest Korean style Karaoke Bar available in Austin, in my opinion. They do a good job with their upkeep, which is rare for most Karaoke bars. They've also got some helpful employees and treat everyone kindly. I've been coming here for the last few years once or twice a year, and haven't been disappointed. Mostly just drunk, and having fun. You get a private room, pay $5 per person an hour, bring your own beer/liqour, and sing your heart out. Doesn't get much better than that. For all of you shy folk that don't like singing in front of strangers, this is definitely the best option for you to test out your vocal skills. It's no secret that Karaoke isn't my favorite pastime. Some people have voices of Fergie + Jesus, but mine is closer to Maude from the Simpsons + a grackle. I will never impress a room full of strangers, but Austin Karaoke allows you to sing to only your friends and my truest friends can tolerate my absurd voice. Each room is set up like a luxury party bus, minus the neon lights. They have vinyl booth seating that curves around the walls. There's plenty of room for the performances, BYOB spread and to sit, watch and sing along. The sounds is pretty good too, or at least as good as the singer. You can come in with alcohol anytime before 2AM, but after that they won't let you bring in anymore, so you better come prepared. They stay open really late, so this is a great option for an all-night rager where you won't get the cops called on you. read more

I'm not a huge fan of karaokes, so I wasn't really expecting this place to be amazing. But to my surprise, my friends and I had a blast here. It's BYOB, and it is open until 4am. We were having so much fun that we stayed until the place closed. There is a huge song selection, and the rooms are clean. I took out one star because the restroom was quite dirty, and the door lock on the stalls did not work properly. It would have been great if the remote control machine had English on it too. I love Austin Karaoke, and have been here well over a hundred times. In fact, whenever I hear the words "last call", I instinctively round up everyone in the near vicinity and attempt to organize a field trip to AK. WHY? Because the point of going out is to cut loose... and there's no better way to accomplish this than singing crappy backup vocals to a song you'd otherwise never listen to (but somehow know the words), with friends who are singing just as bad (if not worse). As an AK veteran, I can say that the entire experience hinges on 2 things. A) Who you're with and B) how wasted you are. I will assume that we're all grownups here and can adequately address B with no problems so I will expound on A based upon years of karaoke wisdom. Tip #1) Bring chicks. Nothing sucks more than a roomful of dudes serenading each other. It's gay. Especially when some assclown violates every man law by putting in a cheesy love ballad like "Right Here Waiting"... If you need added imagery, look up "whack" in the dictionary. Tip #2) Hide the Remote from the Mic Hog*. There's always one in every group... the one that thinks their voice is the bomb and has to sing every one of their greatest hits before the night ends. Yes, karaoke's about showin' off, but allowing the mic hog to hold a private concert breeds boredom. Giving autonomy of the remote to this person is even worse, because the song queue will fill up faster than you can say "Hotel California" and no one else will get to sing. Tip #3) Don' t be shy. There are no good or bad singers at karaoke, just people that don't sing and people that sing too damn much. Nobody's gonna care if you butcher Green Day if it means postponing the Mic Hog's third rendition of Celine Dion. And when you DO sing, put some heart into it and let loose. I'll take a spirited performance complete with screams and falsettos any day over someone that just drones in a lower octave but hits every note... Tip #4) Leave the Room once in awhile. One of the coolest things about AK is the diversity of people that frequent the place. Get out of your room and talk to some ppl. You might end up singing in a room full of strangers, you might even get some digits, but you will definitely have fun. That's about all I've got for Austin Karaoke. I still don't know what anything costs there because usually by the time we check out, I've blacked out. But I will say that there are certain "benefits" for people that the staff recognize. If you haven't been, make an effort to stop by after your next night out on the town. This place sucks. Once in a blue moon they will update the songs in their system but they won't update it in the page book to locate it. That's fine and dandy I'm a pro at searching for songs so thank goodness there's a REMOTE that I can use to search via name of the song or name of the artist. Imagine my surprise that the letter 'N, O, and T' don't work. Do you realize how many songs/artist have those letters? It's annoying and I have mentioned this to the front desk so many times because its happened in multiple rooms that some of the buttons don't work. I've come here a few times so its not like I only had a one time bad experience. Every time I go we have about 5-7 people and we understand their policy at 5$/head but they either try to overcharge us on purpose or the workers at the front desk don't know how to count. Our bill was 200$ for 7 people this last weekend for 3 hours. 35X3 does not equal 150$ even after tax. Of course when we asked about it in the front desk they told us we had 12 people in the room and they were giving us a discount! Btw I understand DIFFERENT people walking in and out of the room to say Hi to think they might be in the same room but nobody new ever came in. The only thing I can think of is that some of the guys were smokers and to be considerate of non smokers in the room they took a step outside when needing a smoke break. When you leave you pay for exactly how long you were in there. Two hours - approx $10. For those of you who lack the courage to hit up the stage in front of tons of people, this is a great place to go to practice your fist pump, air guitar or amazing dance moves. For those who aren't interested in asking for respect - just a little bit - from amused, probably inebriated onlookers, this place is for you. This place is also especially for you if you've only ever heard like... 20 songs. Or if you know Cantonese, or Korean. Because *those* songbooks were huge. The English songbook... not so much. Oh, it is for sure entertaining reading your lyrics overlaid on a totally unrelated Asian video where a couple is obviously being torn apart by work, or another woman. It is especially funny when you're singing Ain't No Other Man while this couple is in turmoil. Off-topic videos? Check! Absent KEY karaoke songs? Check! You can't be asking for respect in any amount because they don't carry that Aretha Franklin classic. The limited variety wasn't worth the trip, but it was fun to see otherwise shy friends grab the mike, even if only to sing some N'Sync - you better believe they had the boy bands. Worst business operation in Austin. Even before they tried to screw me on my birthday, I always despised Austin Karaoke. Obsolete systems, dirty rooms, and overpriced. The only thing positive is the BYOB and no one cards since management likes to promote underage drinking. My story begins on my 22 birthday when I had a group of about 20 people come to celebrate. About half of the group was going in and out throughout the night and we definitely did not exceed 20 people within our 2 hour stay. Few people even paid for themselves on the way out. At the end, a short little Korean guy charged me for 25 people for a full 3 hours. I was surprised and asked for him to double check. He said he's correct without blinking. I said how can you prove we have 25 people? He said he saw people walk in. I pointed to the 4 security camera TVs in the back and I asked him to show me. He told me, "Oh those don't work." LoL. I looked at their posted pricing and calculated the pricing on my own on paper to show him. Even IF we had 25 people, he was overcharging us. By this time, I was screaming at this fool. Extremely rude, can't provide any proof but trying to ripe me off on my birthday. I lost it. He was apple red with anger and embarrassment but he couldn't do anything. There was even a cop right next to me and he didn't even say a word. In the end, he charged me for 22 people and then added, "But now I have to charge you tax." I absolutely hate this place. Haven't been back since and I always deter my friends from it. Drive 2min and take a right on Airport and you'll find another Karaoke place for cheaper, always empty and also BYOB and bring your own food. read more

Literally, I was the only girl there and he was the only straight man. That is why we've even got three stars attached! Those men were hilarious... once i started it off with I will Survive, I couldnt rip the mic from their hands if i wanted to. Think drunken gorgeous gay men singing things like Ebony and Ivory. The BYOB helped for sure. They lose two stars for customer service, for random sushi getting hot and disgusting on the counter up front and because the sleaze factor is really high. We had a party of 8 and a few of them left early and paid their portion after arguing with the guys up front because they were trying to say you can't split up the payment you have to pay on one card, (all split up the price) and at the end of the night I was charged for the whole price (none of the money that the other people paid was taken off my total price)!! This was my first time going to a karaoke bar and I had one of the best times I've had in a long time. I always thought going to a karaoke bar would be lame and boring, listening to drunk people butcher songs-little did I know that drunk singing is the best and funniest part. I didn't know what to expect upon arriving and the BYOB concept blew my mind-I didn't even know BYOB to a bar policy even existed. SAH-WEET! So you go in to the private room and there's a U-shaped booth seating with a few cubes to sit on and a large table to set your 8+ liquor jugs (bottles are too small with that many people) and endless supply of beer on. And then there's the glorious karaoke machine that features Korean videos to go along with your awesome song choice. 1. BYOB -win win situation 2. Open 'till 5am-imagine how wasted you'll be by then and how much drunk slurring-I mean singing- you can do in that amount of time. 3. Trying to read the words on the karaoke machine and even though you know the song, you drunkly still try to follow the words on the screen and can't. 4.You swore you knew the words to a song, and then you start singing and realize you didn't-and you drunkingly yell "Hey, the words on the screen are wrong" 5.Watching a guy sing some cheesy love song and everyone is totally into it. 6. Getting a group of drunk girls to sing "bitch" and "barbie girl" good times 7. Trying to find a song in one of the Korean written books and being totally frustrated-but laugh cause your drunk...so who cares. I will definitely be back here! I think we're all gonna make this a regular thing and come at least once a month. The bill can get expensive so make sure everyone chips in. But I figure that if you have a group of 15 or more-it's not that expensive at all. If 15 of you went to a bar for 4 hours, the total amount spent there on just drinks would equal about the same as going here, only you can bring your own endless amount of alcohol and watch your friends make drunk fools of themselves and have them tell you the next day about you being on your knees rocking out, too. But be aware, you are your own bartender and we all know how strong those drinks end up being by about 2:30am and how it seems to go down like water. When you get home-the toilet may become your best friend. Do like I did when I got home and throw down a towel on the bathroom floor and make your self comfy-after murdering your liver for 4 hours...it's gonna be a long night/morning. read more

Pros: -large rooms -good sound system -BYOB -open till 4 or 5a Cons: -HOT!!!!!! as in hott as hades...a ceiling fan, some air conditioning...that would help. I was really too uncomfortable.
