First off Elysium should be a landmark as far as I'm concerned it's been around since 2001 which is coincidently when I move to Austin at the age of 20. I remember coming here in my 20's with friends to hang out, I was here on Halloween and even rang in new years here once. Now in my 40's I can say it hasn't changed and that's a great thing. The atmosphere is still that of a dark goth club which gives off the vibe of old goth movies like The Hunger, the music is loud, they do have theme music nights and the bar and bartenders are great. If I had to pick one word to describe this place it would be Classic. Some nights are busy some are quiet. I was here recently on a Tuesday after going to another show down the street so it was about 11 pm and was a quiet night, I mean it was a Tuesday after all, but the music was still great as were the drinks and company. I'd recommend this place to anyone as a must go to while in Austin. It's not chic, it's not hipster, it something authentic to Austin and Red River.

Elysium has the best decor if you are goth. It's perfection. Hipsters that are over everything and black. The people that work there are classy in that they are careful and thoughtful and kind. The best place to dance too, especially 80's knight!!

Do you want to feel your inner goth??? Come here. The bathrooms aren't too clean, but the ambiance is awesome!! It's in a historic building (check out the art on the side of the wall) and the music slaps. I didn't get to check out the bar area, but Ian and I had a wonderful time here. There is a $3 cover to get in and it is cash only for the cover unless you have a password (which we found on their Twitter to avoid atm fees).

NEVER KNOW WHAT TO EXPECT AT ELYSIUM! Always a VERY diverse crowd, good dance music, large space. Often have bands, acts, or "theme" nights. Vamp, 80s, goth, glam..you name it! Always a good time, More than just a bar; it's an "experience." Have never been disappointed!!...until... During my most recent visit, their was an "aerial" act ($6 cover). Was told it would begin in about 10 minutes. Over an hour later the "act" began. It was one of the most ridiculous, embarrassing things I've ever seen. No Cirque du Soleil here! Two women all twisted up and hanging onto the aerial ribbons for dear life! hahahahaha They had NO IDEA what they were doing! Bless their hearts. :) It was "entertaining" though - just not how I think they intended it to be. Every bit worth the 6 bucks spent because I laughed so hard I inadvertently got an awesome ab workout! I'll be back!

Those of you with a penis who need to piss or shit, this is your only option here at Elysium.

Do you want to get your club dance on? Then you might like this place. Just make sure you've extinguish your bowels beforehand, as you likely won't be pleased with your options should you find yourself needing to take a shit here.

I went to 80's night at Elysium tonight. It was a spur of the moment decision. Glad I went. I had so much fun dancing. It was awesome.

The music and the crowed has a definite industrial bent, but to label the place as goth or industrial would be missing it.

It was either dead or too early, or everyone was competing with everyone else that Saturday. I've been looking forward to my return since then. That chance came in the form of two more new friends I met at an event at Far Out Lounge in the south who spontaneously invited me to go with them. Not sure if the crowd is different during ACL but it somehow felt "young" to me, and everyone was in large insular groups. While the diversity of music between outdoor patio (didn't know this existed the first time) and indoor disco area was top tier, I still disliked the inconsistency within each individual section. There was a karaoke bar I loved in Atlanta (Dark Horse Tavern in Virginia Highlands FYI) and I still haven't located that same energy/atmosphere in Austin. Thought this would be it, maybe I need to give Barbs more chances! I'm glad they had non-alcoholic options on their menu, so I got a ginger beer and it was just what I needed due to an upset stomach earlier Friday late afternoon/early evening. Bathroom waiting room and overall aesthetic/divey vibes I did enjoy. The water station between the indoor and outdoor areas was chosen for a perfect location.

The music was on point for the audience and everyone from the staff to the guests were warm and welcoming. Being from the west coast you can definitely notice a difference in friendliness. The layout is really fun, with the club being front and center on the first floor and the play rooms up above in an atrium style. There are two stages, one for dancing and another with a pole. The area is huge, with plenty of tables and space to mingle. If I could give more than 5 stars I would because of what happened afterward. I forgot a very sentimental purse there. I called as soon as we got home and the manager, Vannessa, stayed in touch with me over text, coordinating with the staff and cleaning crew to track it down. Weeks went by and just this morning I got a text that she had found it. It's in the mail on the way home. I'm so touched by this gesture and will be sure to visit again when we are back in Austin.

The staff were very friendly, all dressed very professionally in black, greeted us with a smile and were very welcoming. They handed us off to Lee who gave us a tour and he was outstanding, great personality, very funny, and easy to talk to. We are in our 50s, have never been to any club, at all, ever, so we were not really sure what to expect. We went in with a very open mind and had a great time. There was every age range from 21 to 80, every socioeconomic status, and every body shape and size. We did not feel intimidated or unwelcome at any time. It was 80/90s night, we expected to be overdressed when in fact no one dressed in theme. There were women in lingerie or dresses (fancy and plain) men were in everything from sports coats to tshirts (which surprised me based on the posted dress code). Lots of seating, high and low tables as well as lots of sofas. Up in the 6 playrooms there were towels, condoms, and lockers available for use. The beds are divided by a shear curtain, and the front of the beds each have a shear and black curtain depending upon how you'd like to play: alone, ppl watching, or ppl joining in. The "theatre" room was a bit disappointing it felt like there should be a larger screen or maybe different seating. I'm not sure but it felt a bit off to me. Either way not a deal breaker. (Just my opinion). It is BYOB and the bar offers set ups and wine glasses and bottled water for purchases. We brought a backpack cooler but... there were some very dedicated people who arrived with a yeti on wheels they were not playing around. All this to say bringing a bottle or a huge cooler don't be shy! I should mention the parking. The club is in an industrial area, which for privacy we appreciated. About the only people you will see there are those going to the club, it did not appear there were other open businesses around. There is parking on site for $20 (valet or park yourself) and lots of street parking. Be prepared to walk if you're not early and do not want to pay, the side streets fill up fast. IMO, it is well worth the $20, and the men working valet were very friendly as well. Just prior to leaving the manager stopped by to see how things were going and he was extremely kind, very chatty and thanked us for coming. We are looking forward to returning!

Next stop The Rose Room...I have never been to this club because it has unusual hours....Friday & Saturday: 10 PM - 2 AM. This is the TAO (Las Vegas, NV) equivalent for Austin, TX. We began with a dramatic escalator entrance. When you get off the escalator and go left (only possible direction), you see a sea of sardine-packed people dancing like it is there last night of earth. There is a small section of the club with stadium-like seating and a standing area. The music was blasting so loud your body was literally vibrating. A huge LED lit wall showing different designs was the focal point. A DJ was spinning some high energy songs. It was on and popping. We stayed at The Rose Room for a very short while in fear that our ear drums would explode. In my 20s I used go out a lot with friends...surprised I have any hearing today. The key is when music is that loud, you don't linger. This is a drinks only club with a bar inside the club.

It's pretty easy to get to with red garage nearby but if you're coming here, let's be honest, just Uber. The setting is eclectic and fun with lasers, dancers, and people everywhere. People were dancing and it was crowded but people were being respectful of the space around them. One thing that stood out to us was the music, they played a lot of different genres but it was smooth and everyone had a good time with the vibes being right. As with any nightclub just be safe and smart but have fun too. This place will provide plenty of fun, trust us... and the lasers.
