Bad Bartender Experience Trevor is extremely rude. He's tall, lanky, and has long blonde greasy hairy, and facial hair. I went to the bar with my friend to order a drink, we waited in line while he served only his friends and chatted for at least 20 minutes which kept the line completely stagnant. When we finally got up to him to order, he still took his time to do everything but serve us then when he finally spoke he started being condescending and made fun of me for "not knowing what I wanted" despite me literally telling him exactly what I wanted. Fast forward a couple hours, we go back to order another drink. The other bartender is busy handling another customer, so we go back to Trevor, who is not helping anyone and his side of the bar is empty. We walk up, he looks at us both, turns away with his phone in hand, asks the other bartender something, and then proceeds to ignore us. I could understand being busy with something that I'm unaware of as a customer, I've worked customer service. What I don't get and refuse to tolerate is blatantly ignoring someone who tipped you nicely despite you being a d*ck the first time around. It costs nothing to say "sorry just one sec while I figure this out" or something. Normal customer service. As we're standing waiting, a couple other people come up beside me and he begins taking their orders immediately. I pointed out that we had been waiting longer than them, and he just responds with "ok I'm just going down the line, I'll get you next." And when I explained what happened he interrupted me and said "ok well now you're just wasting time on something that's not important." I tried finishing my point about him ignoring us and he ignored us again and continued talking with the person next to me. I think this man is allergic to customer service and accountability. It could've been so easy to say "I'm sorry, I didn't see you" or whatever. I wish 100 years of stepping on a lego daily on him. The other bartender, we think his name was Nick, did a great job and was very kind. He delivered basic customer service and it was unfortunate that they split tips as I wished I could only leave him something nice. Still tipped of course. Trevor's behavior definitely lessened the enjoyment of Barbs. I don't recommend this place any night that he's working. read more

The music's good and bartenders are friendly even though it can be quite crowded during weekend. I'd heard the praises of this place on Reddit and from the mouths of new friends. Back in July I walked in during Hot Summer Nights. It was either dead or too early, or everyone was competing with everyone else that Saturday. I've been looking forward to my return since then. That chance came in the form of two more new friends I met at an event at Far Out Lounge in the south who spontaneously invited me to go with them. Not sure if the crowd is different during ACL but it somehow felt "young" to me, and everyone was in large insular groups. While the diversity of music between outdoor patio (didn't know this existed the first time) and indoor disco area was top tier, I still disliked the inconsistency within each individual section. There was a karaoke bar I loved in Atlanta (Dark Horse Tavern in Virginia Highlands FYI) and I still haven't located that same energy/atmosphere in Austin. Thought this would be it, maybe I need to give Barbs more chances! I'm glad they had non-alcoholic options on their menu, so I got a ginger beer and it was just what I needed due to an upset stomach earlier Friday late afternoon/early evening. Luckily, Barbarellas offers a substantial patio where another DJ is spinning and gives you more breathing room. Barbarellas is known for their themed nights. Expect a crowd that leans towards millennials+ &/or those who are eclectic &/or LGTBQIA+. Note: Bathrooms are unspeakably unsanitary, shared by all, with not nearly enough stalls. I've lived in austin for 13 years. This is by far the best place to head out to on a Tuesday night for Tuesgayz. Best music, best DJ. My friends and I always dance our butts off. Always a night to remember. There's an outdoor patio that is very large and connects to swan dive which is also an awesome bar and venue. The clientele on Tuesdays at barbarella are always an eclectic group of people. All inclusive and lovers of dancing, fun and music. Really love this place and I'm here quite often. I love the flexible spaces where you can be indoors or outdoors and you never have to wait too long for the bathroom which is nice. The bartenders are fast and attentive. Here's my two cents and I may be alone in this thought, but I wish they would change 80s night to 90s night. Almost everyone dancing in this club was born in the 90s or maybe some were born in the late 80s... but either way, it just doesn't feel nostalgic like 90s music does for millennials. This was the ending spot for the first night of trek: we got in a few minutes after ten and beat the cover, staking out some prime space on the floor for an 80s night. Drinks are pretty cheap and the bartenders are friendly. Need a change in scenery and vibe? There's a patio out back playing clubbier music. The one gripe? The bouncers will do whatever they can to squeeze money out of people getting in. When he came at me aggressively I asked him to step back because I as a woman was feeling physically intimidated. He told me that my whole generation needed to stop crying and get over it. Every Tuesday is a holiday in here! I've been going to Tuesgayz for about 2 years and I love it! Every Tuesday this club turns into a gay club and oh boy do people show up and show out for this. My one and only gripe is they let way too many people in here like you can't walk at all!! That may be the gaaaag! It pains me to write this review. Swan Dive and its counterpart Barbarella are amazing bars. Unfortunately, their bouncer staff are blood hungry, power thirsty people. I like to give bouncers the benefit of the doubt when it comes to conflicts, but when a bouncer bumped into my friend (attempting to walk through him.) I thought "wow what a rude thing to do". My friend said " that was disrespectful" to this bouncer. The bouncer's response was to grab my friend, heave him to the door. My friend, of course, tried to regain his balance and pushed into the bouncer by mistake. The bouncer's reaction was to throw him to the floor, beat him, and not only was this bouncer beating him, all the bouncers in the vicinity joined him. Resulting in two lacerations of the scalp. Needless to say, a hospital trip with 6 staples in the head later, we will not be returning to this establishment. I truly hope these people are held accountable for their actions read more

Door guy refused my ID even though it's a legitimate "real ID" issued by the State Department of California of course when I asked another doorman if they had a scanner that would resolve this issue they didn't have any so they're truly depending upon outdated criteria to check State ID's in the capital of Texas ( a place full of transplants and tourists) then he proceeded to explain it was because I didn't "look like I was from Austin" duh my ID clearly states California, but incidentally I was the only Black person in line so he was insinuating Black people don't live in Austin, Texas. As someone who works in the entertainment industry I was only there to meet / scout a potential artist but that turned me off completely. I was dancing and minding my own business trying to have fun and get into the groove. But people would literally just shove you out of the way when they would walk by. There was one group on douchebros who would walk all over the dance floor literally pushing everybody out of the way. Also, what happened to Barbarella being divey? People were dressing up trying to impress? Not my scene. The bartender(s) One bartender in the main bar by the dance floor was a total ass. I was waiting to order a drink and then the magic happened. He saw me and I saw him. We locked eyes and I raised my hand to wave him. He started walking my direction only to pass me up and took an order from the lady standing next to me. WHAT THE SHIT, DOUCHEBAG?!?!?! And after he served her, he proceeded to completely ignore me and took orders from other people at the bar! Fuck you dude. This is Barbarella, take your head out of your ass. The other bartender at the main bar was a female who eventually took my order. I was trying to order three drinks for me and my two friends who were waiting close by. She then told me that their policy was two drinks to a person who's ordering alone. And this is after the fact that she had served THREE DRINKS to one of my friends beforehand. So whatever! Not sure if I want to come back here the next time I'm in Austin. I went to this club and was underwhelmed. It was fine with a few people but rapidly filled up. Impossible to dance with a packed room. Oh and the noise makes it impossible to hear the music being played or have a conversation with people you came with. Finally had the priveledge of experiencing Barbarella on a Tuesgay... and it went up. Truthfully, I've needed to do this for a while. I consider it to be an Austinite right of passage, like sighting your first man bun, or sighting your first man bun with a side braid. You know what I mean. The time was right, the drinks were flowing and the music was hot. I had on these killer red heels and I thought I was going to die, but I was busting moves like Elvis meets MIchael J anyway. Best of times were had by all and I will definitely celebrate here again if the mood strikes. This place literally cinched my decision to move to Austin! I was visiting trying to decide and once I hit that 80s Friday night dance floor, went outside to dance under the stars and met tons of people despite being alone, I knew I had found a place I could call home. This place is massive - so many bars, you never have to wait to get a drink! Multiple dance rooms, a side lounge area, multiple bar areas, outside bar and patio and the outside dance floor is the BEST! Oh and you can even go next door to swan dive and see live music for no extra charge! Two clubs for the price of one and only $5 to enter! Meanwhile if you go between 9:30-10:30 not only is it free but you can get drinks for $3 happy hour! Best deal in town. Love this place so much. Everyone is friendly and nice - especially on Fridays for 80s, there are the regulars who come every week (that's becoming me!) There's always people to say hi to, the bartenders remember you, and you never feel alone. Nothing beats Friday night at Barbs! I only wish every night was 80s night haha. read more
