Fun. All black interior with black lights has a very retro 90s/2000s vibe. Cover charge is cashless so you'll need a card with you. Two rooms up front. You enter is the bar and right next to it is the dance floor with lots raised areas up front and the side. It was suppose to be 80s music but they were playing an eclectic top 40 with some 2010s pop hits. If you're a swiftie and haven't heard love story on the dance floor - it is an experience. It was fun crowd liked to sing along and dance. Mixed and eclectic crowd. There's a small outdoor patio at back that is connected to its sister venue swan dive.

I've lived in austin for 13 years. This is by far the best place to head out to on a Tuesday night for Tuesgayz. Best music, best DJ. My friends and I always dance our butts off. Always a night to remember. There's an outdoor patio that is very large and connects to swan dive which is also an awesome bar and venue. The clientele on Tuesdays at barbarella are always an eclectic group of people. All inclusive and lovers of dancing, fun and music. There is no food offered here but always plenty of options on the street. During and after hours.

Is it gay? Maybe. Do you want to dance - yes! 90s at the main dance, raggaeton/cultural outside and then techno at the other unknown dance floor. Give it a whirl. Don't pay for cover.

It pains me to write this review. Swan Dive and its counterpart Barbarella are amazing bars. Unfortunately, their bouncer staff are blood hungry, power thirsty people. I like to give bouncers the benefit of the doubt when it comes to conflicts, but when a bouncer bumped into my friend (attempting to walk through him.) I thought "wow what a rude thing to do". My friend said " that was disrespectful" to this bouncer. The bouncer's response was to grab my friend, heave him to the door. My friend, of course, tried to regain his balance and pushed into the bouncer by mistake. The bouncer's reaction was to throw him to the floor, beat him, and not only was this bouncer beating him, all the bouncers in the vicinity joined him. Resulting in two lacerations of the scalp. Needless to say, a hospital trip with 6 staples in the head later, we will not be returning to this establishment. I truly hope these people are held accountable for their actions

Voted as Austin's Best Dance Club is open Tues-Sat 10-2. For now we dance under the stars until we can open up the inside again. Tuezgays, Jimmy Eat Wednesdays, Grits and Gravey (oldies on Thur) 80s and New Wave Fridays, New Noize Saturday.

I came during SXSW, when clubs usually book bands that are different from what they usually book. So my Japanese showcase would not reflect what you would usually hear at Elysium. But the performance space is attractive. The club is divided into two rooms with just a divider and no wall between the rooms. So you can hear the music from anywhere. If you want to be right next to the speakers at the edge of the stage, you have to be in the main room - not the room with the bar. As I get older, I sit down more. But for most of my life, I was a stage-edge-next-to-the-speaker kind of guy. Only the only thing that would remove me from my favorite place was mosh pit action (Or a sucky band). As I get older, I also look for some kind of wall support to brace myself with one hand while I dance with the rest of me. The Mohawk is ideal for wall support upfront dancing. The Elysium not so much because one wall is mirrored. But you can get in position to do some major dancing. When I was there last, I did just that. * * * Seating options are superb. Both in the stage room and the bar room there are comfy leather sofas that hold three people and a number of other soft seating locations. Unlike many other Austin clubs, it is easy to find a space to sit down and still get the music full blast. At the Mohawk, in contrast, for an indoor concert, if you go to sit down you leave the room with the music, and you only get vague overtones coming through the wall. * * * The bar is pretty good. Their options are limited but their options are well chosen. I was introduced to a George Dickel rye by the bartender that was absolutely first rate. George Dickel is definitely going into my home collection. Outstanding beverages and fine seating allow you to have a fine time at the Elysium Even on a night when the bands are terrible. * * * Your fine time changes if you have to go to the bathroom. * * * If you are a guy, peeing is merely tacky. You go into a semi-gross room where there is a multi-user tank. All the guys pee into the tank. * * * Pooping is another story. The club does not want shenanigans going on in any of the toilet stalls. So they remove the door to the toilet stall. The men's room toilet is fully visible from the front door to the men's room. You are literally pooping in front of the entire world. This is barely one step up from India. In India, many people poop in the streets. Here, you are essentially pooping in the streets Except when you are done you can flush the bad stuff away. I personally am very shy . I definitely do not want to do my business in public. * * * There are people in Austin who love to sh** in public. Put four of them together and you have a band. Bands like that perform all over town, Including at the Elysium.

The music was on point for the audience and everyone from the staff to the guests were warm and welcoming. Being from the west coast you can definitely notice a difference in friendliness. The layout is really fun, with the club being front and center on the first floor and the play rooms up above in an atrium style. There are two stages, one for dancing and another with a pole. The area is huge, with plenty of tables and space to mingle. If I could give more than 5 stars I would because of what happened afterward. I forgot a very sentimental purse there. I called as soon as we got home and the manager, Vannessa, stayed in touch with me over text, coordinating with the staff and cleaning crew to track it down. Weeks went by and just this morning I got a text that she had found it. It's in the mail on the way home. I'm so touched by this gesture and will be sure to visit again when we are back in Austin.

The staff were very friendly, all dressed very professionally in black, greeted us with a smile and were very welcoming. They handed us off to Lee who gave us a tour and he was outstanding, great personality, very funny, and easy to talk to. We are in our 50s, have never been to any club, at all, ever, so we were not really sure what to expect. We went in with a very open mind and had a great time. There was every age range from 21 to 80, every socioeconomic status, and every body shape and size. We did not feel intimidated or unwelcome at any time. It was 80/90s night, we expected to be overdressed when in fact no one dressed in theme. There were women in lingerie or dresses (fancy and plain) men were in everything from sports coats to tshirts (which surprised me based on the posted dress code). Lots of seating, high and low tables as well as lots of sofas. Up in the 6 playrooms there were towels, condoms, and lockers available for use. The beds are divided by a shear curtain, and the front of the beds each have a shear and black curtain depending upon how you'd like to play: alone, ppl watching, or ppl joining in. The "theatre" room was a bit disappointing it felt like there should be a larger screen or maybe different seating. I'm not sure but it felt a bit off to me. Either way not a deal breaker. (Just my opinion). It is BYOB and the bar offers set ups and wine glasses and bottled water for purchases. We brought a backpack cooler but... there were some very dedicated people who arrived with a yeti on wheels they were not playing around. All this to say bringing a bottle or a huge cooler don't be shy! I should mention the parking. The club is in an industrial area, which for privacy we appreciated. About the only people you will see there are those going to the club, it did not appear there were other open businesses around. There is parking on site for $20 (valet or park yourself) and lots of street parking. Be prepared to walk if you're not early and do not want to pay, the side streets fill up fast. IMO, it is well worth the $20, and the men working valet were very friendly as well. Just prior to leaving the manager stopped by to see how things were going and he was extremely kind, very chatty and thanked us for coming. We are looking forward to returning!

There is a small section of the club with stadium-like seating and a standing area. The music was blasting so loud your body was literally vibrating. A huge LED lit wall showing different designs was the focal point. A DJ was spinning some high energy songs. It was on and popping. People were dancing and it was crowded but people were being respectful of the space around them. One thing that stood out to us was the music, they played a lot of different genres but it was smooth and everyone had a good time with the vibes being right. As with any nightclub just be safe and smart but have fun too. This place will provide plenty of fun, trust us... and the lasers.

What I can say, is everyone that works there has been there for years and is passionate about what they do. On Thursday nights they have Latin night and so many people come out to dance to salsa, Reggaeton, bachata, etc. On Fridays three have hip pop and some EDM. And on Saturdays we have hip pop, EDM, and popular top 40 music. At night this bar isn't for the people who want to sit down and drink it's for the people that love dancing and having a good night! But before the DJs go on we have live music from small bands or solo guitarists. Every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday you can also see the dancers put on a little show with the swings that hang above the bar around 12:30-1 am. Every dancer including myself is very passionate about putting on a show and engaging with the crowd! One of the things that this bar is known for is Blackout, which happens every Saturday around 12:30 am. The bar turns off the lights, dancers pass out batons that light up, there's confetti cannons and CO2 cannons, and the beautiful dancers are on the swings putting on an amazing show for you guys!
