Would be last on my list of steak houses. Drinks were ok, I like the large booths which seat six. Our appetizer the blooming onion seemed incomplete, like one fourth of it fell off. The photo shows the full side. My French onion soup was very tasty. The house salad was decent. I originally ordered the prime rib medium rare. It came out medium well. And since they ran out of the prime rib, I ended up ordering the filet and lobster. The 'filet' seemed more like a sirloin in look and texture. Serviced was strained, with wait staff manning too many tables. Even though my order was messed up, never saw or spoke to a manager. I ate 15 minutes after others at my table.

Very surprised by this visit, and for all the right reasons! We were blessed with a $200 gift card for Christmas and able to take the family out to celebrate our 18th wedding anniversary with it. We chose this location as they have much better ratings than others. It was a rainy night so we were one of the few tables there so for the most part service was very attentive. Drinks came out quick, food came out hot, and all prepared right. I tried the new 18OZ BONE-IN RIBEYE W/ BOURBON ONION and a French Onion Soup...WOW! Unfortunately my baked potato was pretty dry even with butter and sour cream but that was the only thing I didn't enjoy. My daughter really enjoyed her tenders and my you get son loved his sirloin. If you're craving some nostalgia and Bloomin anything ...this is the Outback to try!

Love to come hear for an early dinner on Wednesdays whenever I crave for a good grilled chicken. My grilled chicken in the barbie was cooked to perfection and the delicious sauce on the side perfectly complements this juicy and tender chicken breast. I started with a delicious serving of their coconut shrimp which I thought was overcooked (judging by its dark color when it was served) but no, it was just perfect, fresh from the frying pan and the equally mouth-watering dipping makes it more delicious. Darlene my server was very nice and attentive, checked-up on me several times to make sure she's available for anything else that I may need. Dining here around this time (after 2:30 to 3:30 pm) is nice since the lunch crowd are already gone and evening diners are not yet in. I Always enjoy this place around this time, just the right sound level of music and still homey feel in the dining area.

We went to this location on Veterans Day. For this particular day, veterans get a free blooming onion and free drink with the purchase of a meal. We had a very nice server who explained that not only do veterans get this deal but their families do as well. Awesome! I ordered the Kings pasta that came with steak and shrimp. While the service was good, the same cannot be said about the food. The steak was tough and under seasoned and the pasta was bland and not cooked Al dente. The blooming onion and starter breads were delicious as always. I wouldn't make this a regular eating spot but they have decent veteran deals.

Outstanding Service at Outback ~ Tonight my twin and I decided to treat ourselves and opted for an Outback experience. We entered the doors around 8 PM and were greeted warmly by our hostess. She seated us and within minutes, our waitress Belinda, with smiles and cheer came to our table. Her radiant smile and disposition set the mode for our meal as we settled in and ordered an entree of a Lobster tail and a 6 oz Steak accompanied by a sweet potato and broccoli. Belinda checked on us multiple times during our meal and kept the bread and lemonade coming. The bread was so soft and fluffy and she was never far away. We even got a glimpse of Stephen, the manager walking the floor. He was attending to another guest, but we had to stop him and tell him how awesome our experience was. He beamed with pride about his staff, but re reminded him that the culture comes from the top. When Belinda returned, we asked her to give our compliments to the Chef as our steak was prepared to a perfect medium rare. The food was piping hot and was in front of us before we knew it. To finish our experience, we decided to end the night with a cookie skillet and ice cream. I rarely dine out during the middle of the week, but I'm so glad we did. Javier, our Chef made coming out during the week a well needed treat. My compliments to the culture of this establishment that puts customer service and great food first. Highly recommended ~

So walking in on Saturday evening we were immediately greeted and seated. Our drink orders were taken and brought quickly. Our starter, steakhouse mac and cheese bites, was ordered and also arrived quickly. The consensus was they were a good start that would be ordered again. My wife ordered the strawberry and peach sangria, that was rated excellent and would be ordered again. Salads arrived next, and were average. Mine was missing onions. Once the main courses arrived, which seemed slightly delayed, especially by the timeframes all the other food and drinks were brought, we were quite ready to eat. Prime rib was really good, but not cooked to the order. The sirloin and blooming fried chicken was cooked as ordered and would be ordered again, but maybe without the chicken. That is something you have to be in the mood for. The sweet potato was excellent! Overall a very good experience. I will say I appreciated the more quiet atmosphere, and our server was great. I think their competition may have higher quality food by a small margin, but the atmosphere here was better here (unless you prefer loud to where conversation is difficult).

I will always remember it as one of the most memorable Anniversary dinners. We stopped in the afternoon prior to our evening dinner. We were greeted by a young gentleman, who after telling him we'd be dining there that evening. He took us on a tour of their dining rooms and helped us reserve a quiet table in an intimate dining area over looking the piano bar. Upon leaving he introduced himself as Robbie, the Executive Chef. Thank you Robbie for taking the time to select our perfect table! When we arrived for dinner, our table was adorned with rose pedals as well as anniversary wishes. Our waiter Carlos couldn't have been more attentive. Even though he had more tables to serve, he made us feel that he was exclusively ours! He helped us decide on our main filet entree and made recommendations as to compatible sides. The dinner was FABULOUS; not to mention our complimentary dessert! The food was AMAZING. We shared a crab cake for an app and it was probably the best crab cake I've ever eaten. My steak was cooked very well. My wife (with my encouragement) ordered the Alaskan King Crab legs. I knew that I wanted a little, So she ordered a pound, which was MKT priced. There was a huge sticker shock when I got the bill ($295 for the crab legs!!!), they were amazing. The bar had a nice bourbon selection. We will definitely add this to our rotation.

Once we arrive at the restaurant we were greeted like VIPs. We were asked a few times if we were there for a special occasion and I mentioned we were there for our anniversary. We were congratulated and that was it. No other "special" treatment or offers because it was our anniversary. The service, the food, and the overall atmosphere were great. No complaints at all. My only issue was this, as we were preparing to pay the bill, a couple (white couple) was seated next to us and they were asked if they were there to celebrate a special occasion, and she said, "it's our anniversary" and the waiter then offered them a complimentary bottle (or glasses) of champagne! Wait, what??? I thought to myself, nobody offered us (a black couple) any complimentary champagne. A different person came to the table to take my credit card and I asked him about it. He did apologize and offered to bring us a couple of glasses of champagne but it was too late. We were done eating/celebrating and it was time to go home. I was 3 weeks from recovering from heart surgery and this was my first time out in the public to eat since my surgery and I didn't want to let not getting a bottle or glass of champagne ruin my evening with my Queen. This incident it want led me to giving 4 stars instead of 5. How can one couple be offered complimentary champagne and another couple not offered any at all???

While the food was very good as usual, our overall experience was disappointing because of the customer service we received from the primary female waitress. This was very disappointing because we were there to celebrate a special occasion, as we've done numerous times. I want to recognize the male waiter who assisted us throughout the evening. He was wonderful, attentive, and professional. He assisted with our wine and food delivery and provided the level of service we've experienced before and appreciated. For 73 years, The Barn Door has been more than a great restaurant; it has been an inexorable piece of San Antonio history. Last week, The Barn Door announced on Facebook that its final day of service will be Sunday, May 11th (Mother's Day). The Barn Door has been an outstanding steakhouse in the truest sense. They've never relied on gimmicks or culinary trends--they've relied on the tried-and-true flavors that have maintained a loyal clientele for decades. I'm taking about hand-cut, primal cuts of beef grilled over real mesquite, delivering that unmistakable South Texas char. I'm referring to plump, wild-caught shrimp from the Gulf Coast, the famous yeast rolls, and tubs of homemade salad dressings. If you've been there, you know how special the overall experience has been. I've read many heartfelt comments on social media asking why such a successful institution would cease operations. Well, dear reader, I have a unique insight into why. Randy Stokes has poured his heart into the restaurant, but he merely leases the building--not the land--from the Straus family. Approximately seven months ago, Mr. Straus decided to sell the dirt beneath the "Barn" to a real estate developer. The plan? To raze this historic site and erect modern condos. It's a familiar story of urban expansion, but it doesn't make the loss any easier to swallow. But before we close the door on "The Barn" forever, a glimmer of hope looms on the horizon. Randy Stokes and his team aren't necessarily hanging up their aprons for good. According to a reliable anonymous source, the team has expressed a desire to reopen The Barn Door at a new location, with eyes set currently on the city's North Side. I hope the promise of a new location comes to fruition, but even if The Barn Door closes forever, I will cherish all the wonderful memories of dining there with my parents and grandparents over the years. I will remember the ingratiating staff, the unique ambience, and the hundreds of delicious meals I've crammed down my gullet.
