The traditional decor is beautiful, the classical instrumental music creates a relaxing atmosphere, and the blue-and-white tableware makes the table feel special. The service was polite and attentive throughout the evening, and the tablet menu in both English and Chinese made ordering easy. The restaurant can get busy at the entrance, and the dining room can be loud, but that adds to the lively atmosphere. My favorite dish was the Swing Pork Belly. Overall, I had a wonderful experience and would definitely come back!"

Delicious spot that surprised me!…read more I went to the Mountain House location in NYC (East Village) years ago and was actually pretty unimpressed at the time, everything felt a bit too mala for my personal taste. Because of that experience, I had written off the Allston location, but I'm glad I finally gave it a shot. I was able to dine in as a group of 4 without a reservation. We ordered two soups (the sour beef and sour fish), mapo tofu, and a pork dish. Every dish was pretty solid. My personal favorites were the sour beef soup and mapo tofu dishes but overall everything was solid and everyone in my party enjoyed the meal. I'm glad I finally gave Mountain House another try!

I was shocked by the price for the soup dumplings...until they arrived. $12 is great until you realize they're bite size. I'm also not sure if it was because I got them delivered, but they were rlly lacking soup. They were frankly a bit dry. The entire order didn't come with any sauces either so I had to use what I had at home. The chili pork dumplings made up for the soup ones. Super solid. They have their dough down to a science. Some of the best I've had. I am not sure I'd order from here again, gonna stick with Boston Soup Dumpling for time being!

The portions were also fairly large, which was a big reason I rated it so highly. The dan dan noodles were really flavorful, and the pork was . Easily one of my favorite dishes. The beef with green peppers had the perfect spice level. The beef was tender and well-seasoned, the peppers were cooked nicely, and the two flavors complemented each other really well. You also can't go wrong with the stir-fried green beans and eggplant. Both were cooked and seasoned well, and this was another favorite. The small Szechuan dry pot was pretty good too. We chose beef, lotus root, cabbage, and cauliflower. It wasn't overly oily, and I really liked all the vegetables. The beef was just okay, but we had already ordered beef in another dish, so we probably should've chosen a different meat for more variety. Overall, the food was flavorful, the portions were generous, and the prices felt very reasonable. Definitely a solid option for sharing a bunch of dishes with a group.

Beef + fish - bean curd skin + spam - fried milk curd + spicy chicken (cold) or crispy pork belly This is definitely enough for 2 of us, probably 3 people even depending on how big of an eater group you have! Everything came out quickly, i enjoy the broth a lot, it's not overly spicy and the sour tang is yummy. The beef is super tender, we usually bring the beef to the top so it doesn't end up overcooking while being in there. Feels like a good portion. The sides you add to it are also dumped in there pretty hefty. The crispy pork was alright, it would be nice if a bit crispier, ours didn't have that crunch when initially biting into it. Maybe not the way it's supposed to be but for me anyways. The milk curd was good to me, light flaky crispy. The lady loves the cold spicy chicken dish, that's almost a meal in itself. Will be back!

B2J Tasty Pot is so good, I ended up coming here two nights in a row for dinner!…read more My first visit here, we ordered a combo for 2. This comes with a small pot with 1 lb of your choice of broth & protein (fish, beef, or both), 2 add-ons to your pot, 2 appetizer sides, and 2 bowls of rice. We did: - fish and beef with signature spicy sour broth (mild spicy) - 2 add ons: bean curd sticks + spam - 2 sides: spiced chicken w/ chili sauce & house made fried milk custard The combos are such a good deal! If you order a small pot of fish & beef on its own, it's $39.99. For $26 more, you get 2 add ons, 2 sides, & 2 bowls of rice. BUT I guess if you're not too hungry, you could totally get away with ordering just the pot! We typically order appetizer dishes whenever we go out to eat & had planned to get some sides anyways, so the combo deal worked in our favor. With that being said, i think next time we come, we could totally do the small pot with 1 side = $50. Honestly, it did end up being way more food than we could finish & we had leftovers to take back with us. For my second visit, we were a party of 5 and decided to get the combo for 3! This includes a medium pot (1.5lb protein of choice), 3 add-ons, and 3 side dishes. This was the perfect amount of food for us. I think if we had done the combo for 4, it would've been way too much. I'd say, the combos are great but totally not necessary. Only go for it if you actually see some appetizers & add-ons you'd like. The spiced chicken is my favorite side/appetizer! It is served cold & is decently spicy. Both visits, I opted for the same broth & protein: fish + beef. Fish & beef were cooked perfectly. I liked that the beef was soft & not hard to chew. The mild spicy broth is spicy but not too spicy where you'd need to take a break in between or need a beverage. I liked that the spice did not take away from the flavor. Service was great! The staff that helped us were all super kind and helpful. Well air conditioned & we found the restaurant to be very clean. Would totally come back again.

Our drinks (I got the Oishii) were all wonderful too. The ma-po tofu had the delicious mouth-numbing Sichuan peppercorn throughout. The signature Dan Dan noodles were flavorful and multilayered. The lotus fries had a garlic powder and a little sweet touch to them, and stayed perfectly crispy for the entirety of our meal. The pork dumplings were fluffy and satiating. The sponge cake was a little lacking in flavor but we appreciated that it wasn't too sweet. This place gets packed even on weekdays, so keep that in mind - it did get a little hectic and hot inside because of how busy it was. Service was still lovely despite how busy it was. This is definitely a place worth returning to. I'd like to return with an even bigger group so we can try more things!

Everything our table ordered was delicious. We started with the lotus root fries which were delicious and a generous portion. I loved the flavors and perfect crunch with each bite. Then we had our main entrees, the pork bao, mapo tofu, and the dan dan noodle. We also ordered enoki mushrooms but they forgot to bring it to our table--unfortunately we only noticed after we left and had already paid for it. We ended with the honey steamed sponge cake which was nice! Not what I was expecting but I liked it. There were 4 of us and the plates were sized enough to share.
