This happy hour deal did not leave me very happy...
    Jen P.

Ordered the happy hour deal that promised a $1 slice with any alcoholic drink so I ordered a draft beef and the mashed potato pizza slice. But when the check came it was $14.30! So either I got ripped off and was not given the deal I asked for when ordering or a simple draft beer is over $12 at this place. I can only wonder because instead of giving me an itemized total the bartender just thrust the machine with the balance at me. Gonna be stewing on this for a bit.... Pizza was just ok

Biggest plus of OTTO was the cocktails are a fair price: cheaper than getting drinks at a bar and definitely had enough alcohol to get us started for our night. The pies themselves were unique in ingredient-combinations. The pizza was a pretty decent size for a single person (I was able to finish it all in one sitting). The crust was thin, charred and sturdy enough to hold the toppings. I was excited to try out the mashed potato, scallion, and bacon pizza, but the flavor was a little more boring. The mashed potatoes didn't add much flavor (carbs on carbs is a fun thought, but in execution, pretty underwhelming) & so the pizza relied a lot on the bacon fat to provide the punch--which it did not.

I ordered two pies and a salad through their online website. I arrived and told them my name for my pizza order. The lady at the counter told me it will be about 10-15 minutes, so I sat and relaxed. 20 minutes gone by no word from anyone so I naturally went back to the counter and asked about my order. She asked me my name and that it would be another 5 minutes. Walked up again after 10 minutes and then finally they gave me the reassurance that it was coming out. These were the facts of what happened. In the time I waited so patiently, I over heard the workers in the back say "this is like the third pizza I burnt today." And so naturally I thought it was reason why my pizza was taking so long. In the amount of time I've been there, I've seen so many things unfold. Customers whose ordered were placed online were never received, customers who ordered a pre-made slice got their pizza slice burnt because they forgot it in the oven, customers who came to pick up their pizza were told it would 10-15 minutes wait, but never got it within the said time. They obviously over promise and under deliver on their time estimation-but I get it, it happens. Despite my experience, I was really looking forward to the food. The pizza definitely wasn't well put together. Things started to fall apart, slices were ripping off. The bottom of the pizza was so burnt that the comment from kitchen worker started to make sense. But I do have to say that the ingredients were fresh and seasoned. I wished they did a better job at preparing the food and improving the customer service for future patrons.

Grease dripping from the top shelf onto the pizza below. This is where they store the slices you will later order. Obviously not cleaned.

Staff was friendly but the food was terrible. First, the pizza had almost no sauce and the sauce that it did have tasted like canned tomato purée with zero seasoning. My meal ended abruptly when I went to the counter to ask for napkins and saw grease dripping from the filthy top rack onto the pizzas below. I was disgusted. I took pictures to attach to this review. Don't eat here, The food isn't sanitary.

After a year my sister and I traveled back north and came to try this place out again, the issue after all was a sever issue and nothing more. The server this time was such a pleasure to have. Super attentive and nice. I had such a better experience here. This place truly is a good pizza spot and thats coming from a New Jersian. Thank you as well to the owner, he did reach out to make things right but I'm not a local so I let it be. Food: 5/5 Taste: 5/5 Atmosphere: 5/5 Service: 2/5 The two stars I gave to service was in fact generous. The hostess was m.i.a upon arrival. The restaurant wasn't busy or else I would have understood. There was one lady sitting in the back whom we thought was on break given how long we waited for acknowledgement. Finally a man next-door in the take out area yelled for her. To my surprise the lady on her phone, sitting at the table, was the hostess and unfortunately, our waitress. She seated us and then it was just constant waiting on her to check in for our food order up until we left. She was super nice I'll give her that. But maybe pay more attention to customer

Yummy pie. We got a kids cheese pizza, butternut squash pizza, and an order of cheesy garlic bread. They were all very good. Coming from the New Haven area we have high pizza expectations. We thought Maine wouldn't be able to deliver, but we were pleasantly surprised. Service was not unfriendly or inattentive but not stellar either. A great spot for a quick meal in Portland.

This pizza joint is fantastic! It's just a little hole in the wall, but it has some really great options available both for ready-made slices and made-to-order full pies. We got a butternut squash, ricotta, and cranberry pizza. It was delicious! 10/10 would eat here again!

It had a slightly slimy texture and the pasta was mushy. The clam chowder was fine but tasted like it had been reheated and not made all that recently. I had a lobster roll from their food truck a few years ago that I ate outside on a summer day and it felt special. This visit did not feel that way and instead more of a perfunctory meal. It feels like a secret, but I know it's not a well kept one! Our server Nico (apologies if I've misspelled that!) was wonderful. He was friendly and helpful when we made our dinner choices. The other servers were also always on top of keeping our table clear and our water filled. The food was absolute perfection. We started with a salad and grilled octopus. The salad was bright and acidic which paired perfectly with the best octopus dish I've had. It was so tender and delicious, I've never had octopus that was that tender. The grilled flavor came through immediately, but never overwhelmed the delicate flavor of the octopus. For mains I had sole francaise and my husband had bone in monkfish. The sole was melt in your mouth good. It was lightly breaded and cooked in a pan with brown butter. It was so toasty and nutty and coated the green beans and simple, but perfect, red potatoes it was served with. My husband's monkfish was fresh and perfectly toothsome, served with fluffy Roman gnocchi and romesco sauce. My only regret is not having enough room for dessert because I'm sure it's incredible as well! I can't wait to return the next time we're in Portland. Just to note: this is one of the least accessibility-friendly areas of the city. The old cobblestone road that it's located on is foot traffic only. The closest approach is if you're dropped off at the end of and it you would still have a short distance to travel. There is a brick footpath on the sides of the cobblestone road that is slightly smoother, but still not ideal. Earlier in the day I was able to navigate the street okay on foot so it will depend on your capabilities. That being said, I took my motorized travel chair down there in the evening and Street and co were happy to let me fold it up and store it near the door.

They also have a modest selection of well-chosen beers on tap and in cans. -- Bacon Bacon burger: I tried this on two separate visits, once adding caramelized onion to its standard configuration of house patty (a 50-50 blend of beef and pork), block sauce (think spicy ranch), bacon strips, bacon jam, and cheddar. The toppings all worked out great, with the bacon strips the standout by far: plentiful, tinted red from the cure (flavor galore), and both crispy and bendy in the same bite. On the downside, there's a dense bun to get through, diluting the deliciousness and moisture. The pork component in that patty suggests extra juiciness, but on one of the visits it was pretty dry--and smashburgers need not be dry. So I loved one and merely liked the other. I know it's 2026, but $20 for a burger without fries is a little pricey. If you get the love version instead of the like, it's worth it. -- Fries: Old school crinkle cuts cooked hot and crisp, available with sea salt or salt and vinegar. The menu has the smallest at $7, but with the burger it was only $3, a bargain that mitigated the $20 burger price tag. And they were very good. Service was great once, abysmal once (long wait for the check, long wait to pick up my credit card). On a third try in between, I sat on a stool for about 15 minutes trying to get noticed and wound up leaving. Lots of chitchat among the servers, both out front and back in the kitchen. Service doesn't seem to be something management prioritizes. So there's some good, some great, and some not-so-great. Could be a 3 or a 4, but I'm optimistically rounding up based on the excellent first experience and generally good food quality.
