We visited Flatbread during a vacation in June. We attempted to eat here on Saturday, but the wait was over an hour long. On this day, we were able to navigate the waiting list which was a fantastic offer to guests. Halfway through our wait, we opted to remove ourselves from the waitlist which we were able to do seamlessly through text. Although we weren't able to eat here that day, this system did leave a good first impression. We were able to eat here the next day without a wait. The interior is open with an industrial feel, which I feel is typical of many pizzerias. However, they had children's drawings hung everywhere, which is a nice and thoughtful touch. There was also a great view of the water from the outside patio. We opted for the pepperoni flatbread, which was a great price for the size. The pizza did take awhile, maybe thirty or so minutes, but it was well worth the wait. It truly had everything I consider a perfect pizza has. A nice family friendly pizza spot with outdoor seating near the water. I particularly liked the option to create your own pizza so everyone can find something they like. I found the small pizzas to be more crisp and slightly more satisfying texture wise than the larger pizzas. I'd say one of my favorite pizzas here is the community flatbread as it had a variety of toppings that make it savory with a hint of sweet. Overall the portions here are large which was a pleasant surprise. Even the "scoop" of ice cream for dessert was more like multiple scoops of ice cream. This place is busy so it can take some time for the servers to get to you along with food. Yummy pizza! I came here with quite a large group of people on a weekday for lunch during the summer. We did have a little bit of a wait, but nothing too long, it was also a beautiful day, so we sat outside and got to watch the boats. The service was fast for the large party we had, and the staff was wonderful. We ordered a bunch of pizzas and drinks. The restaurant and the bathrooms were clean. Great views. Good pizza. Awful service. We waited for almost an hour to get a seat. I was OK with that. It was Friday night and they were busy. We got a table and waited another hour for one pizza. We were still ok at that point. We were hungry and like I said, the pizza was good. The service was the problem. The pizza came out from someone different than our server, who never communicated with us while we waited an hour for one conventional pizza. The lady who brought the pizza acted stunned that I asked for Parmigiano cheese and hot pepper flakes. She said " I'll have your server bring it ". Then she brought it right over. Great! Next, the pizza was cut in a variety of different shapes. Two NORMAL slices and then 3/4 of the pizza in varying sizes of diagonal slices. Some big. Some small. There were a couple of small cuts that were just crust. I'm not sure if this is their shtick or gimmick, but it was weird. Again the pizza was good and we didn't complain because we didn't want to wait another hour for a properly cut pizza. We finished and asked for the check. Server brought it out without a word spoken and left. So we paid and left. After an amazing few days in Maine, this was definitely the low point after receiving top notch service everywhere else. Flatbread is the absolute go-to in our eyes if you're hungry in Portland and evening thinking about debating on what to eat. Take advantage of Yelp's webpage in which you can put yourself on the waitlist ahead of time and in real-time stay up-to-date on how long you'll be waiting for a table (sometimes there is an hour+ wait). Once you sit and start getting served -- practice some patience because the restaurant is typically quite busy and they cook pizzas out of one (large) wood-fired oven. The chicken bacon ranch salad was delicious. The small Jay's heart Flatbread was good, pretty traditional taste for a cheese pizza. We added sausage to half and mushroom to half on the large Jay's heart and the sausage was delicious - definitely weren't trying to order two Jay's heart pizzas, so we think the large got put into the system incorrectly, we were hungry so we didn't complain. Whenever I go to Flatbread, I'm in love! Their pizzas are just unmatched. I don't know what magic they put in there but it is perfectly cooked. Chewy yet toasted crust, a balanced sauce, and delectable toppings. We got the street taco flatbread and the carne special (pepperoni, ricotta, hot honey, onion). Both were so good. We also got the specialty salad (not pictured) that had corn, cotija, and pickled red onion. We also treated ourselves to some beer and drinks--yum. Our server was awesome. She was so attentive and also our food came out pretty fast. I also love how you can watch them make the flatbreads in the pizza oven. Holy smokes! The pizza is on point. It's in the name so I'm not sure what I doubted them. While in the area, my coworker and I went for lunch. What a great choice. I have been here a couple of times for work dinners and each time did not disappoint. Staff super friendly and fast. It's a casual dining experience. They are able to accommodate larger parties, both times I was with a group between 5-10. Reservations absolutely recommended if you have a group over 6 people. Call ahead! It can be very loud, with the open area and big groups, such as ours on the times we went, and the occasional band they might be playing. The food was great. The pizza crust was perfect, not to thick, not to thin, wasn't burnt. The toppings were balanced and plentiful. I loved everything we ordered to share at our table. The service was ok. We had to track someone down to help get our check, however, the drinks/food service was perfect. The restaurant wasn't that busy, but we had to wait quite awhile to get water/menus, then, after ordering, waited a long time for the pizza. Always stop here on my visits to Portland - East. While technically not the best pizza I've ever had, it's still very good, they use quality ingredients, and have a great location down on the water in Old Port. Though it's a big space inside, it still feels cozy with the ovens firing on a cool/cold day. On a nice day, the umbrella'd outdoor patio is delightful. Their salads also deserve a special shout out as the greens they use are so fresh and good, and the dressings are perfect with them. The taplist always includes solid Maine/New England selections, and the rest of the bar is great. I do wish they'd offer sliced fresh jalapeños to their build-your-own options, but other than that have nothing to complain about. Had to wait a bit for a table but it was quick and we were sat at a nice table facing the water. The restaurant is large and seating was comfortable. Our waiter provided great service. Extremely disappointing experience. We waited over an hour for our food, and during that entire time our waitress only came to our table twice. We never received drink refills, so we sat with empty glasses while waiting. When the food finally arrived it was missing the sauce on the side. at that point we asked for it to be boxed so we could take it and leave. I don't know that Flatbread is a destination spot in Portland (especially considering they're technically a chain with locations in New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Hawaii as of writing this), but - ironically - I do think it's a place for locals. Why? Because it's welcoming regardless of season, it's spacious, the food is consistent, it's good for groups, there are options for most dietary restrictions, it's FOR US (probably for you too, tourist, but... it genuinely is community-centric - you'll see that in the children's artwork and the NPO's they support monthly). In the summer it's one of THE BEST patios. Located outside on the working waterfront, the views are about as Portland as it gets (good people watching too)! Yes, it's still communal picnic table seating, but it seems like (probably because of the pandemic) they are packing people in a little less tightly. It's nice to (literally) have some elbow room out here again. In the winter it's one of THE BEST restaurants to tuck away inside at. The enormous "center piece" hearth where they cook emits so much (metaphorical) warmth and light, and creates such a cozy, atmosphere. Seating inside is varied with high tops, low tops, and booths. DRINK: the fresh squeezed lemonade with maple syrup is amazing, but don't miss out on their house made sweet tea either! EAT: for me, it's all about the Vegan flatbread with their own organic wood-fired tomato sauce, caramelized onions, olives, and plant-based cheese. I have them swap out the mushrooms for the sun-dried tomatoes, I get a side of their ginger-tamari dressing to dunk my crust in... it's perfection. Add on top of that one of their award winning salads and the strawberry-rhubarb crisp (no ice cream)? This is a good date night out for under $100. They get suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuper busy at all times throughout the year, so I strongly encourage you to show up early or Join The Waitlist here on Yelp (love, love, love that they have this as an option). read more

Vibes, views & pizza is a win for me! Found this place via Yelp community... and it did not disappoint. Parking is very get in where you fit in. So mostly street parking (free on Sunday) or a paid parking lot and then walk is the way to go to get to this place. Staff was chill and accommodating for a service animal we had with us. Server was helpful with menu guidance and offered cost efficient choices for our group of 7. I would have loved to know more about the history of the place and the story of the flatbread but the taste of it all did tell a story for sure.
