We were out and about in Portland and decided to stop in at Brickyard Hollow for a beer. It's a super nice bar that serves drinks as well as their beer. The tap system is pretty cool as it fills the glass from the bottom. I've never seen a pour system like this. The beer 'glasses' were plastic so that was a bit of a bummer. Located in busy downtown Portland right on Commercial Street. Opened late until 10pm/11pm daily. Large area with lots of tables and some bar seating. Lots of screens in that main area. There is a large seated/tabled area with a large screen (a few large screens combined) in that room. There was a great selection of beers to choose from. There were are also a bunch of food options including lots of pizzas! Some interesting toppings/combinations. I enjoy eating pizza, and when I go to new places, I always try to get the more unique or "weird" pizzas. Blueberry pizza was a new one for me, but it actually works quite well. It's a bit sweet but I enjoyed it and would recommend. We also had a teriyaki chicken bowl, which was fine, but a little dry and a bit expensive for what it was. Guess sticking with pizza at a pizza place is probably the best bet. They had live music when we were there, and the staff was friendly, though service was a little slow. Beer was solid. And a few options like - getting 4oz pours of their beers to test and sample, or just because you are wanting less is a great option. Loved that. The sauce was like unsweetened ketchup, but more tomatoey with onions (?) in it, that even though they didn't taste like much still managed to have a horrible texture. The wings themselves looked boiled with soggy skin. Im not a picky eater so I managed to get down 4 out of twelve but I would never order those two items again and probably would never get anything else from here. I stopped in to this brewery while exploring the Old Port area. I was greeted immediately and grabbed a bar seat. It was a cool space with garage doors that open in the front to let the breeze in. I saw the blueberry beer and knew I had to try that one (when in Maine!) - they have a cool "updraft" system where the beer fills from the bottom of the glass, which leads to a perfect pour! They also had a pretty decent food menu consisting of pizza and other snacks, but it was around lunch time on a Wednesday, and they had some pre-made pizza by the slice, so I grabbed a slice of the margarita. First time here at this Brickyard Halloween location. We love the Eustis location so decided to try the big city location. Decorated with the industrial feel of concrete and wrought iron. Easy to read signage on the outside for people to locate. It was a busy evening but seating available. We waited for the host to seat us only to find out the bar is first come. Sat at the end of the bar next to the kitchen. It took a few minutes for one of the bartenders to acknowledge us, they were chatting by the register. We were offered menus and my husband wanted help with his beer order. Another few minutes were pass and another bartender is helping us but able to assist my husband with his beer order. Ordered two pizzas to go with our beverages and some loaded fries to nosh on while we waited. Very good. As we waited we watched pizza after pizza go out the door. Obviously a popular place for take out pizza. Service slowed down but the assistance for another drink took some time. Again, chatting away with backs to patrons. Actually put my stop watch on to see how long it would take after the first 4 minutes. Naturally they came a minute and a half later to grab us another round. Pizzas were very good. We went here the other day are were pleased with our experience. It was a very nice day and they had the doors wide open which let the nice breeze in which we loved. Server was very kind and patient with us since we weren't familiar with the menu. We got a 16oz cider and a beer which was refreshing and they had a decent selection. For food we had the Buffalo chicken pizza and the peaches with balsamic drizzle pizza. Both were so so good but just a little greasy. I especially liked the combination of peaches and goat cheese . Their menu had some unique options with strawberries and blueberries incorporated into some of their pizzas. Their regular menu items also seemed to catch our eye too. The beer was so unique and memorable. Hands down the best craft beer I've had. I had a flight of 4. Although it wasn't on the menu, I ordered 4 small beer and it came out to $10 and was considered a flight. 1. Soul Shine Mexican Lager - So refreshing and tasted like a Modelo which most likely influenced this beer. 2. Sugar Shack - Session Pilsner - This had a hint of floral note and was light. 3. Aww Shucks - Pale Ale - This is a grapefruit beer think Schöfferhofer but even better. It had a stronger taste of grapefruit. 4. I'm a huge fan of hazy IPA's, It wasn't bad but it should have been more flavorful to match the description they put out on their menu. This place has also a large selection of freshly made pizza which we didn't try however we got the cheesy breadsticks with marinara sauce which were excellent! Everyone was getting pizzas, so I'm sure they are good. I got the Seoul Bowl and was very impressed. The Korean pork belly and brussel sprouts were well seasoned and crispy as were parts of the rice. Hi Friends, Was down in Portland with only a short time to kill before the show at State Theatre. I was at the AC by Marriott, right round the corner from Brickyard Hollow Brewing. Ordered food via the app and the pup and I boogied over in time to pick up the food just as it was ready. Since Bob was along, we went back to the hotel and enjoyed our meatballs and Brussels sprouts. Both were terrific. My only minor issue is there were a couple of dishes I would've preferred, but they aren't available at the time we ordered. But I definitely would recommend BHB if you are near Old Port & not looking for seafood/ are looking for brewery fare. It's always a good sign when you keep coming back, right? We've been here twice now and I can't wait to return. Our first visit was an introduction to their 'Farm Fries' which is there way of delivering house-cut french fries which are expertly fried to have a crunchy exterior and perfectly fluffy interior. We also ordered a margherita pizza which was a delight, and two blueberry beers which we did not finish because alas, as much as we try to be beer drinkers, we are not. Second visit was Farm Fries and their chicken and waffles pizza. Yeah, I know - it's gimmicky, but damn it was delicious. Thin crust, olive oil, chopped chicken tenders and delightful bits of waffle drizzled in a sticky sweet maple syrup. Holy shit, I want it right now. I'd love to see a little heat in that syrup to elevate it just a bit, but we will return for this pie again. The spot is clean, spacious, bathrooms are gender neutral, staff is knowledgeable and friendly - the only downfall is difficulty finding parking. It won't stop us from coming back.
