Can never say enough about Profenno's. A big part of my life since my teens. The pizza parlor is downstairs and the bar room upstairs. Lots of TV's upstairs, downstairs for quieter conversation if need be. The pizza is amazing, a little overpriced at 16,50 for a 10-inch. But worth sharing, the ingredients are fresh. The dough appears to be homemade. Maybe a frozen dough, defrosted and delivered from down the street. But as the wife of a deceased pizza artist and competitor in Las Vegas' yearly competition. I know my pizza. The sandwiches get me the most. Fresh-baked bread, vegetables, and meat, of very genuine quality, tasting. Priced reasonably compared to other local Italian shops. Profenno's learn about service recovery and act like you care about your customers. I ordered a large hamburger pizza. I opened the box to find a ham pizza. Mistakes happen, but it's how you rectify errors that matter. The offer of a soda, salad or freebie would have been the better approach. Had a wonderful lunch here the other day. It was pretty crowded with just one waitress/bartender. Her name was Christine and she did an amazing job! Very efficient and in a great mood. She did not get flustered at all. I ordered the antipasto salad and wow it was amazing! So big, I would order it to serve four people next time we have company. The food quality and quantity has changed. I sat in the restaurant with a friend. We ordered a slice of pizza pre late lunch order. We were given a cold slice. It was not warmed. I ordered a BLT thinking the Wii put a good amount of bacon on it. No, 4 thin boxed pre cooked slices with barely any lettuce. Tomatoes were hard not ripe. No salt or pepper as requested. I've been here 3 times over the last few months or so and ordered the same thing every time - a 10" white pizza with meatball, bacon and Greek olives and have been blown away, every time. * The meatballs taste phenomenal, like they gotta be homemade. I'm going to have to order a meatball sub sometime. *The homemade fresh dough is to beat the band. *This is the best white pizza I've had south of the Cabin in Bath, (possibly the best period). I want to love Profenno's. I have been several times over the years, because I love wings. The food is good, but the service is TERRIBLE. I often feel ignored and the last time we went it took over an hour to get our food, drink refills were non-existent, and 1/2 of the food came out so late that we had to box it to go. Will I try again? I really don't know. I do love the wings though. read more

Stopped in last week, mid afternoon. There were a couple of tables seated, nothing crazy. The waitress took our order, two sandwiches and onion rings. She gave us our waters and tended to other tables, nothing out of the ordinary. After 30 minutes of waiting for a chicken parm and a meatball parm, still no food. This place has one of the most unique menu items around: Italian nachos! It's regular nachos with Alfredo sauce instead of red sauce and pepperoni and sausage instead of traditional meat choices like beef or chicken. Amazing! Our wonderful server recommended these when we asked what she likes. It didn't sound real awesome but. It is! Local pub fare restaurant and bar scene in Westbrook. Hometown sports feel inside with booths along the walls and small high top tables in the middle. Long bar in the front with TVs and liquor/draft beer selections. Weekends and nights it gets very packed, shoulder to shoulder. Mostly 50+ folks. Karaoke on the weekends. There is an upstairs with pool and darts but unless you're on the of the regulars who plays up there, you are not going to be able to play. The few times I've ventured up the stairs I received death stares and felt very unwelcome so I just walked back downstairs. The liquor drinks are okay, cheaper than downtown Portland as they should be. I don't ask for anything fancy as its usually very busy and it's not the fancy type of bar. The food is typical pub fair. They have the 50 cent wing specials during happy hour but only the bone-in kind so I don't order them. I usually order the broccoli chicken pizza but they cover the thing in mushrooms and I have to pick them off, when they remember the "no mushrooms" I'm happy with the pizza it's really good. My friends and I will sometimes stop in here as the last stop of the night on our way home from downtown Portland, or after visiting Mast Landing which is the brewery behind Profenno's. read more

Only three stars today. We had to go find the waitress who was in the kitchen conversing. Out of four orders two were correct. I ordered a large sandwich and and got small (charged for a large). My friend got a sandwich that supposed to come with fries but came with chips. Another friend got a plain spaghetti/sauce dinner that comes with no bread or roll. The fourth and final order was correct and ok. We go here all the time, and it seems to be slipping as if no one cares whether they have customers or not. The food is good though. read more

We ordered the steak tips dinner and small cheese pizza. Disappointing. There were maybe 4-5 tips and overcooked so tough and not a lot of flavor. Could order two "sides" -all starches, no vegetable options. More disappointment. Choices were baked potato, mashed potato, fries, sweet potato fries, corn. Went with baked and corn. Potato was not baked, it was boiled and like rubber. Corn was corn, not on the cob. Pizza had good flavor but overpriced for size, and it was just your basic cheese pizza. Had the food been good, the price would have been at least more palatable. Steak tip dinner was $23. All around disappointing. Always try to go to locally owned businesses but will look for another option if in the area again. read more

Profennos is my favorite Westbrook restaurant. The food is delicious, they have great deals like bogo pizza nights and wine Wednesday, and they are always consistent. The pizza is fantastic with thick cut pepperoni. The BBQ chicken nachos are loaded and enough to feed an army. (0 stars) Was in the area and decided it looked like a promising place to eat. As we walked in it looked okay, like your average pizza place. We ordered a pizza and wrap and sat down to wait. I was able to watch him make the pizza and he did use his bare hands to punch the dough out which is normal but raises a problem later in the story. We waited for a while for our food and it wasn't coming out. I was watching the guy making our food, he forgot that our food was in the oven along with many other people's food. Finally our food came out and the pizza was average but my buffalo chicken wrap must've had half a bottle of hot sauce on it; it was drenched. As we were eating I saw the person who made our pizza sneeze in a tissue and proceed to wipe his hands with it. Then proceeded to not wash his hands. Then the thing that put me over the edge was the sight of a cook blatantly vaping right over the food he was making. Never again will we come to this restaurant. read more

I've been going to Profenno's for many years. I really like their sandwiches. They used to have a trivia night and would go there every week with friends. They don't do that anymore but do have a DJ a couple nights a week. There are also some dart and pool tables upstairs. The skinny is this...every part of me wants to love this place it's within 5 minutes of home, they serve sandwiches, pizza, calzones and salads. We have ordered twice. First time a five cheese calzone with Alfredo sauce instead of red sauce (avoiding that for the baby), they gave me a 20 minute wait time. My husband waited 30 and still no ordered. He asked about it only to learn they had lost the order. They put it in ASAP, apologized, gave us the food free and a gift card to return. Awesome I thought that is honestly making sure the costumer was happy. The calzone tasted great, full of cheese! Great bag for the buck. This past weekend we order same calzone but with pineapple and red sauce (praying the baby can handle it) and a side garden salad. The calzone was good but ice cold after warming it up the crust was super tough. The salad was pathetic. Mostly lettuce green peppers and onion. It has one cucumber slice and like three tomatoes. Good place! Great food and, for as busy as the bar was, quick service. The elderly lady behind the bar was rather gruff, but still attentive. The waitstaff was quick and humorous. The portions were huge. The pizza was great and the meat sauce linguine, though a little soupy, was tasty and very well portioned. They had a tall for small special going on. A 27.5oz mammoth of a draft for the cost of a pint - well worth it. It's your typical neighborhood bar with all walks of life. The only thing that really sets this place apart from others in the area is the large yet inexpensive portions. Definitely 4 stars. read more

Whenever I'm up in the 'Brook I HAVE to hit Profenno's. The best pizza and calzones around. The bar has a great old school feel and I love that (please do remodel, or refresh as its called 'character'..too many bars modernize, raise prices and ruin what was a great vibe) Only once did I have an issue where a calzone took an hour and 20 minutes to find my table..maybe it was that busy or maybe the order was forgotten but I won't hold that against a great spot. Just ordered with these guys and was blown AWAY!! The pizza crust is soooo good. You can tell this is authentic good food. The cheese is stringing and gooey. The Alfredo pizza was the best I've ever had. Also got the buffalo chicken wrap for lunch tomorrow and the buffalo chicken is crispy and not over breaded, cut into small pieces so it's easy to eat. If you are driving by this place to order a sandwich from a chain you are missing out. I went to Profenno's the other night. As I was walking in, I watched Mr. Profenno (older man, was told he was the owner) yelling, at the top of his lungs, at a woman and her toddler daughter. I was appalled at what I saw so I immediately turned around and walked out. I could not believe the disrespect he was showing this customer and to top it off, in front of a young child!!! I'm not sure what happened, but no one deserves to be degraded and yelled at in front of an entire restaurant. I do not recommend this place to anyone. read more
