Update: After Dillon reached out to me, my computer was sent in again and I got it back a week later. There was data corruption during their process that they tried to fix. Dillon checked in with me to make sure I wanted to do this so I did approve them having t he computer longer. It appears to be fixed now. I've had it back about 3 days. Hopefully this continues. I appreciate Dillon's attention to this matter, though of course it should have been fixed right the first time, and really shouldn't have had this problem less than 3 months after I bought it. read more

OWC / MacSales has been my go-to source for over 20 years. The people on the phone or chat are happy to help and are really knowledgeable. You can rely in them for honest, no-pressure help. Their products are great and built to last. Trustworthy, friendly, professional, and excellent customer service -- one of the great companies to do business with. read more

Horrible company that sells products that don't work as advertised and very rude and un-helpful tech support. Stay away! I bought their OWC Accelsior S SSD PCIe adapter. It causes crashes and kernel panics. I started a chat with tech support. They told my they wouldn't offer support as I was using a Mac Pro 4,1 flashed to 5,1. I said I also had the same issue with a non-flashed Mac Pro, and rather than replying the agent pasted his previous reply then immediately ended the chat. This experience has made this my last purchase from OWC, and I would warn everyone to stay away. Any company that has employees that behave that way is one to avoid! read more

Good product, great prices. No muss, no fuss to order. Solves problems for me very quickly.

The sales person was very helpful, took his time and answered all my questions. Very good experience.

Excellent supplier fast response good prices and support. I have used OWC sor over 10 years and they seem to always to be a step ahead.

Great Selection, and outstanding value for used/refurbished Macs. My wife's MacBook has suddenly died. I was able to find a replacement of a slightly newer model and lower than EBay prices. Can't beat that! read more

Still engaged it getting a return for a "guaranteed" item. I bought some "garage sale" ram that had a guarantee on them for 12 months. Came in defective. Stoped working and reset computer about 5min after start up. Got a return authorization and had to pay shipping back to OWC. Then after I sent it back . OWC said that I had been granted free shipping to return my order ....."LIE"... never happened. After my second call to the company, I got a "manager"(yeah..right) who told me he was "sorry" and he would send me my refund "promptly" and would update me by email. Both did not happen. No email. No refund. Now I am back a month later trying to get a resolution. More runaround, more "let me talk to my colleague", "can I get back to you in 20min by email?". Pathetic and criminal. Don't waste your time. read more

I purchased a battery for my Mac air laptop Just five mos ago. This place was recommended by an Apple Consultant. The battery went bad and needed to be replaced. company sent me a new one BUT required me to pay the return shipping costs. Now if you stand behind your product, and are willing to replace them for no fee and then refuse to pay for the shipping just seems inconsistent with what is going on in the retail world today. Just an outmoded policy it seems to me. I am not a big shopper of their products at all and will find another vendor who has more contemporary and customer friendly policies. read more

Over the years I have made many purchases from OWC and I have been happy with their products and service.

I am always very happy when dealing with OWC. Laptop was like new and works great! My daughter is very happy.

The hard drive I ordered was lost by UPS. After long hold times, OWC pushed me to UPS and I had to file a claim with them - 7-10 business days just for the "investigation", and then another 7-10 for a refund. This was way too long to wait. OWC didn't care. They offered no support and provided no assistance. They wouldn't send a replacement, refund the order, or put forth any other resolution. I was left to sort it out with UPS on my own. BE AWARE: OWC takes little to no responsibility for the customer experience beyond accepting your money at checkout. Your satisfaction is someone else's problem. read more

OWC just scammed me! I've been an OWC customer of OWC's for well over 20 years, buying mostly hard drives from them. Recently I made a huge mistake buying a refurbished 2019 16" Macbook Pro from them. Knowing they are intent on selling this defective computer again to some other unsuspecting customer I decided to post this review. After only four days of use, the computer began making a "pinging" sound, over and over again, even when sitting idle. I spent hours trouble-shooting this, determining that it only happened when it was running on AC with something plugged into a port. I spent hours on the phone with Apple Care, but they were unable to get it to stop. I made a recording of the pinging and took the computer to my local Apple Genius Bar. The Apple technician immediately knew what it was: He said the computer was drawing too much power, causing it to repeatedly cycle on and off. He said the motherboard needed to be replaced. But he warned me in no uncertain terms to return the computer to OWC for a refund because this computer was a lemon. Apple's records showed its motherboard had already been replaced twice in 4 years, one of those times by a non-certified repairman! Of course OWC was or should have been fully aware of this. I sent a lengthy email to OWC explaining the problem, attaching the audio file. A few days later I was stunned to hear they were charging me a 15% restocking fee of $240. I spoke to a "manager" named Liz who claimed their technicians couldn't get it to malfunction and so they were going to charge me. I reminded her it took four days for the problem to surface for me, and asked her how long the OWC techs tested it. She didn't know how long, and didn't really seem to care. She repeated that their online return policy makes clear that in order to receive a full refund their techs have to be able to reproduce the problem and that OWC was entitled to charge me $240. Coincidentally, the very next day I took a different Apple computer of mine in to be repaired at Mac Hollywood, a highly-regarded Apple repair store in Los Angeles. When I mentioned to the head technician the problems I had with the OWC computer and played him the recording of the pinging sound, he immediately diagnosed it exactly the same way as the Apple Genius Bar tech, assuring me the motherboard needed replacing. So I called OWC and was directed to Liz again. I told her that a second highly-qualified Apple technician had diagnosed the motherboard as the problem. She said she would let the OWC technicians know that. I asked her if their technicians tested it for four days and were able to reproduce the problem themselves, would OWC give me a refund? She replied that my case was closed. I told her I was concerned that OWC would be re-selling this computer to some other unsuspecting customer. She didn't express any particular concern about that. What kind of company puts a person like that in a customer relations position? Never once did she ever say something like "I'm sorry you have been so inconvenienced." From the very beginning I could tell Liz wasn't the least bit interested in genuinely solving my problem. Now that I am actually posting this review, I see that OWC has predominantly very negative reviews, which comes as no surprise. OWC knows full well the history of this computer's motherboards, so you would imagine they might even feel a bit of shame for selling this to me. But they know what they're doing. read more

Have been a longtime customer of OWC and never had reason to not consider them when making Mac purchases. This last time though, I'm now seeing them as more uncaring and impersonal, and more willing to save $2.00 than provide good customer service. I purchased a laptop SSD for an older Macbook Pro. The SSD purchased was a 7mm, but the drive bay in the laptop is 9mm. I knew this, and also knew OWC sold the necessary spacer for $2. I also saw, in the Spec section of the drive page, that the spacer was specifically included, so there was no need to purchase one. When I got the drive, I was surprised to find the adapter missing. I called OWC. First off, Customer Support was a pain to get ANYTHING out of without having an invoice number or email right in front of you. In actuality, the drive was purchased by my daughter as a gift, so I did not have that information handy, and OWC refused to even talk to me without them. I could provide other information such as a mailing address and name, but OWC refused to accept those, giving poor excuses such as "the name might be spelled differently" or "if the address doesn't perfectly match, we won't be able to find it." Because of this, they wouldn't even try. So I had to end the call. I called back when I had the info. When I described the problem, the CSR (customer service representative), kept insisting that the spacer was not included. Every single time I insisted that it was, she kept repeating the exact same phrase back to me over and over again. "The adapter is not included". When I finally directed her to the product page and pointed out EXACTLY where it said the adapter was included, her repeated script immediately changed to "It used to be included, but we no longer make that ourselves, so it's not available." I insisted that since it was clearly stated that it WAS included on the page, but she kept repeating her new mantra. I then requested to speak to a manager. She tried to put me off, but I insisted so was put on hold for about 8 minutes. When she returned, she said that they would grant "an exception" and send me the part, "even though we no longer make that ourselves, so it's not available." All this for a $2 part that the CSR obviously knew had been offered before but felt it was better to insist that I was wrong rather than try to explain the situation outright, and initially refuse to send the part when I pointed out the facts. She also insisted that in the future, I can always call to verify such information. Really? I'm going to call for every order with them? I think not. I am really disappointed with OWC now and will look elsewhere for Mac items to see if they are available anywhere else. read more

I haven't tried the hub I bought yet. Ordering from the website was pretty clean and painless even as new customer. Some of the info about the product was a little hard to navigate. Page was very professional looking but locating all the specs I wanted to know was slightly different. read more

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY or TIME! I purchased 2 MagSafe power adapters from OWC. They both broke within 1 month of the purchase. Initially, OWC honored their warranty since the magnets broke off inside of my computer within the first 30 days of purchase. I had hoped that both replacements would be of a better quality only to be disappointed again when BOTH replacement power adapters broke again within 10 months of use. Same thing happened with the magnets breaking inside of my computer. So I called customer service to seek a replacement again only to find out that their "warranty" is only good for 12 months from the date of the ORIGINAL purchase!?! What good does a warranty provide if you can't even stand behind your product and offer the same warranty on the replacement. Customer service provided ZERO care about their product failing for the second time and basically told me too bad, that is how their warranty works. Honestly, I feel completely ripped off because now I have 2 broken power adapters and for the price I paid for these piece of crap refurbished ones, I could have just purchased new ones from Best Buy. I will NEVER purchase anything from a company that cannot even stand behind their products. DO NOT waste your time or money on OWC. read more

Courtesy replacement battery for 2010 MBP did not last either. Wouldn't hold a charge, and the computer wouldn't even work with it - cpu and ram kicked into overdrive, fan got very loud, % charge was erratic, and it froze. Had to swap out for my worn OEM one, which still works at least. I don't use the laptop very often anymore, but I was expecting the battery would help extend its life, not end it read more

Terrible experience. Placed order online for hard drive on 11/27, supposed to take 7 days delivery via USPS. Checked tracking after 7 days and it turns out that they did not send it in to USPS until 12/6 (9 days later) and it is now scheduled to arrive 12/11. 14 days after I ordered it. Beware! Spent nearly $400 (£300) on a new OWC Aura 480 GB SSD + shipping to the UK. The hard drive failed within 2 days. Customer support were prompt but robotic. My shipping costs will not be refunded, nor will the shipping costs to return it back to the USA. They were, however, "kind" enough to waive the restocking fee (the cheek!). So, I have been sent a defective drive through no fault of my own, and as a result I'm out of pocket for around $80 on shipping to and from the USA. Never again OWC! Your practices would be illegal in the UK (under the Consumer Rights Act), but you being in US means I have no recourse. I'll just have to suck it up, count my losses, and spread the word never to order from OWC. Feel free to contact me to discuss some compensation for this. I would welcome the shipping costs being refunded, plus the return to the USA being covered. Only then would I consider ordering from OWC again. Interestingly, other users here have noted the same problem with the Aura drives multiple times - so I really do not recommend this product at all. There are clearly manufacturing issues. read more

Mostly great products but horrible return policy and even worse customer "service." Their policy is if you return anything from an order they will deduct your refund by any discounts you got...ON EVERY OTHER ITEM IN THE ORDER! I mistakingly bought the wrong item and returned it unopened and still shrink wrapped. It cost $79. I paid $10 to ship it back (free shipping would have been nice but it was my fault so I had no one to blame but me.) When my return was processed I was shocked to see a refund of only $64.22. You see, I ordered other items that had discounts and apparently their policy is to deduct ALL discounts from your item. So, in theory, if you return a $50 item but had $50 in discounts on other unrelated items, their policy is to keep your returned item and not refund you any money since they deduct the discounts from the refund. A chat session and phone call with two other people did not change anything. Only once I made a stink on Facebook and Twitter did they offer to refund the rest of my money. They claim the discounts should not have been applied against my refund yet the fine print buried on their website says that reducing the refund IS their official policy. I will definitely be more selective if I order from them again. read more

I am shocked to read the negative reviews herein. I have purchased parts and pieces from OWC for the last 15 years, and I LOVE them. I always call before ordering, to be certain that what I am getting will work with my configuration. I am not a "hardware person", but I have installed Hard drives, memory, batteries, and fussy cables in my MacBook Pros all without issue and doing so makes me feel all smug and competent. The VIDEOS! I usually prefer written, diagrammatic instructions, but OWC's videos are short so avail yourself of them! ( Please keep them as short as possible - no adverts, no fluff) Shout out to salesperson "Frank", who this week was knowledgeable and great to work with. He shared his own experiences doing some of the things "advanced" upgrades I am planning, and that boosted my confidence immensely. THANKS, FRANK. I read many reviews below, and perhaps OWC should consider that companies that are succeeding these days offer liberal return and shipping policies. Customers are increasingly looking for, and expecting these things, and avoiding companies with less generous policies. read more

Bought memory ($1,500 + shipping, tax etc), shipped from US to UK and paid a 'Landed'. Although, their UK agent's handling precluded my reclaim of UK VAT (paid as part of original invoice). As a business that's just a cost I didn't need. The order was part of a larger order and they actually shipped part of the order to a different customer. Which they realised by going through the in house CCTV - meanwhile I had to wait while they retrieved the item from the customer, re-tested it and then sent to me. Nuts! Unfortunately developed a fault, does happen. RMA raised, paperwork raised, UPS forms and label supplied by OWC. UPS get it all the way to local depot and then it's lost. Given all my memory is now lost and I'm having to chase OWC - despite them promising to 'monitor the return actively'. Over a month goes by .... OK, if UPS has lost it, we'll ship you new memory if you'll pay for customs/VAT charges. No - that's not OK, OWC need to pay that and claim it back from UPS - why should a customer have to pay multiple times for the same item AND be deprived of the use of the item in the meantime. While the memory worked I had no complaints. Less than a year later - I feel differently! They seem to have REAL issues with their customer services practices though. "Any time a package that is considered lost would be a claim replacement and would need to be set up as a new order to process thru customs. As mentioned in the claim terms, we do not have any control of custom charges and would be the responsibility of the customer." read more

When Apple equipment wasn't very popular, it was tough to find compatible parts. I went out of my way to find drives and RAM because I generally couldn't buy it locally, even in Philadelphia. Much later, having gone through a period where APS Technologies had been a great supplier but went away partly due to the Mac clone (some of their people went to PowerComputing) era, I believe, I started dealing with OWC. I could find name brand equipment with which I was familiar. At some point, I started to use the OWC branded RAM and found it to be just as reliable. (It's all about the controller chip quality, as the RAM chips themselves are reliable.) Time and again, they had products that fit and worked beautifully, but then, they started to test even more and found RAM configurations above Apple's specifications that worked reliably. (Reliable is a good word to associate with OWC.) Along with the RAM and the various hard drives, I've used their drive enclosures (reliable), and most recently their Mercury Pro 6G SSD. I'm pleased with all of my purchases. I've only talked to customer service or the orders people once or twice, but I've been handled respectfully and carefully. Look for their bundled deals. You may find something great. read more

I had been a long time purchaser at Gainsaver, buying five or six Macs over more than a decade. Unfortunately, that company has changed for the worse, particularly in regards to customer service. After getting what looked like a bait-and-switch from Gainsaver for a used Mac Pro desktop, I waved a permanent goodbye to Gainsaver and bought a system from OWC. OWC's price was almost $300 LESS, and the computer arrived in tip-top condition, configured as advertised. We are very pleased and will do our future business with OWC. Save your money, and buy somewhere else. If you have a problem with some of the leftover junk they sell. They'll make you pay to return it, if you want a refund. In my case, it probably would have cost more to ship it back then the refund would have been. Normally I would have done it anyway, out of spite. But I'm too busy for that nowadays, unfortunately. Anyway, uh yea, shop at a place with a better return policy, and/or one that sells quality merchandise. Not old returned garbage. BTW I purchased like 5 things, and 2 were either not what they said they were, or broken. That's 40% if my order! My 2m cable was only a 1m, but it was in a 2m bag. So worthless to me. And the power strip I got was a total POS anyway, plus it was broken. Could someone please explain to me again why I'm responsible to pay to ship something back that you made a mistake on? That should be your responsibility, not mine. I didn't send out junk. My money was perfect. It was your items that were the problem. So you should pay for their return, or do what Amazon does on small dollar items. Trust that I'm being honest, and don't make me return them. Either way. I'll NEVER, EVER, EVER! Give them one red cent of my money again, under ANY CIRCUMSTANCES!!! You can bet your life on that one, and I recommend that everyone else, who doesn't like wasting their money, follow my lead. I have been a faithful OWC customer for years, purchasing ram, harddrives, upgrade kits etc and will sadly know better then to continue ordering from them in the future. I ordered a magsafe 1, 85 watt power cord and immediately knew it was a fake. I worked as a technician for Apple for years and immediately jumped on the chat support to ask why they were peddling fake parts. The chat person wasn't helpful in the least bit and kept cutting me off to say that she would be happy to have me send it back for a refund. I want to know why you feel okay selling cables that are obviously fake (wrong plastics, wrong measurements, stickers in wrong locations, obvious build quality issues.) to your customers. I just hope more people stop trusting you. read more

Update 2/6/18 I ended up getting an imac Pro, this was one of the biggest disasters for my business. The imac pro is drastically faster than OWCs drive, by light years. About 38 days of frustration and headache over. DO NOT BUY THEIR AURA PRO X drive, get a MCE drive if you need one! Further problems with the drive.... Had enough returned it and just bought an imac pro. This will be my last purchase with OWC. Update!! Drive is acting horrible again causing kernel panics, resetting, tried SMC, PRAM, I run a post production house, and I will never do business with OWC again, 2 weeks of down time, I spent $1349 on this drive, worst experience ever. ....................................... So I wanted to update this review, this drive works great. The first drive they sent me failed, and I was really frustrated. They sent me a second way and it was better, but the screen was shutting off. After doing research, I did an SMC reset which solved the problem for my Mac Pro! read more

I'm very disappointed with this company. I bought a Mac accessory at this company on November 13, 2017. However, since the item doesn't arrive even after one month elapsed, I inquired this company by email. A few days later, I was relieved that there was a reply from OWC. However, the goods didn't arrive at the end of December, and I urged OWC to caution attention by email. Then OWC repeated the reply exactly the same as before. Thanks to my troubles. Since it's so suspicious, I confirmed the order status of OWC, and found that OWC didn't ship goods. I'm angry. I can no longer trust so I canceled my order. I'll never buy it again. read more

If you are on the fence about buying a refurbished Apple Computer from Other World Computing (Mac Sales), I recommend you look elsewhere and do your homework. They are the WORST! I have worked for Apple for years and have worked on hundreds of Macs and have NEVER seen a computer die on me faster than the computer this company sold me (Only 6 Months). Also, the computer came to me with tons of scratches when I bought it. Looked like someone took a key to the computer and purposely vandalized it. I'm the type of computer user who takes care of my stuff. This computer immediately was put in a hard case, then a neoprene case, then in an insulated back pack. None of that mattered, because the logic board and the cable to the hard drive were defective. This caused me to lose all my data and fried my hard drive to boot. This MacBook Pro now is a glorified paperweight. I spoke to the manager John on the phone was less than helpful, offering no solutions. I will never buy from this company again, EVER! On top of that, I will tell all my friends at Apple to NEVER recommend their products to their customers. Buyer beware! read more

I've been a devoted OWC/MacSales customer for ten years. Their tools for finding upgrades have proved invaluable in the past. I have turned numerous family, friends and clients on to them for their needs. No more. First of all, the reviews posted on their site are curated. I was disappointed to receive notice following a submission that reviews would be collected and reviewed. Rather than posting the review, they sent me a note telling me my review was wrong. I have used OWC to "hot rod" older Macs and MacBook Pros, replace failing batteries and always have a fresh pair of iPhone headphones around. They provide great kits for repurposing HDD or SSD drives you switch out during an upgrade. But I'm giving them a 2-star review because of their refusal to back down when customers, including me, confronted them about fakes they were peddling as "genuine". Do they have some good stuff? Yes. But why must they insist on telling loyal customers that knock-off products are "genuine"? They peddling fakes as real and resent being caught. I recently purchased a "genuine" MagSafe 2 85W adapter from OWC. From the moment I opened the box it didn't feel quite right. It was stiff and lacked the feel of Apple adapters. It felt very light. Both broke quickly. The first lasted just over a week and the replacement just over a month. But the reviews at the site suggested nothing but good things about the adapter. Further off-site searching revealed plenty of complaints against OWC and their "genuine" products. It was bad to lose a mission-critical component twice. After the second failure, I wrote a review on the OWC product-page documenting the many differences between the "genuine" Apple product and the "genuine" OWC product. Their support team wrote back to me telling me all the ways I was wrong. They believe that these adapters fluctuate in weight by 60g. Really? The true originals are only 300g. But OWC doesn't select the material on the cord. They don't poorly write on serial numbers in the wrong font. They certainly aren't testing to see if the cord clips function well or different country plugs or extenders can attach without difficulty. If they are actually checking, this is the worst QC I've seen. I used to trust OWC. If I can't trust OWC to realize how fake these most basic Mac components are my faith in them all around is shattered. Two stars because I believe they can improve. read more
