Inside is pretty small with maybe 8 tables and a bar, out back a pretty patio fully covered from the sun( thank you! ) with a bathroom. Just walking in I was impressed, felt like a place you would want to hang out! Now to the food we came for brunch which is a smaller menu, we got a bunch and shared: Fried cheese- delicious! i think it was halloumi (?) cheese fried and drizzled with honey, we all loved this! Breakfast spread- a breakfast charcuterie board! it was so simple but so delicious! Fresh flavors popping out everywhere! The ladies loved it guys might need more hearty Croque Habibti- classic french dish with twist, we of course added the egg, now this thing was hearty! Huge, dripping with cheese, ham, egg! so good! This restaurant was amazing! It's still pretty new but they really have an amazing team and concept here. The restaurant is open and very visually appealing. I love that you have the option for inside or out. And can get a peak into the kitchen from the dining area. The food is very good. The menu rotates which I enjoy as this typically means things are fresh and in season. We had the breakfast spread, fried cheese (this was my absolute favorite, dreamed about it for days after), croque habibti, sweet potato, French toast, patatas, baklava, and the latte with honey and almond milk. There was not a single thing on the menu we didn't love! I overly love this restaurant! This was some of the freshest food that I've had. They serve Mediterranean flavors with some amazing cocktails and wine. The batatas bravas, which are fried potato balls were really good and I'm surely going back for them! Their sea salt and olive oil bread goes very well with the whipped feta but they have different varieties of bread and dips. I also enjoyed the citrus spritz cocktail and the oysters! I'm blown away by this restaurant! The interior is so chic and welcoming. The restaurant itself seems to be in a small neighborhood which gives charm to such a delightful place. I will start that this is such a cute restaurant nestle away inside Springfield. When walking in it feels warm and inviting. The staff greeted us promptly and had our table waiting (we had a reservation). Our server was excited to tell us about the menu and provide suggestions or explanations as needed. Now as far as the food, everything we ordered was great! The only thing I'd say is the cucumber salad wasn't as flavorful as the rest of the dishes. But everything else was full of flavor without being overly salted which usually is hard with this many dishes being served. Over all we had a great experience and our food was great. I was very excited to hear about Othello's opening. Let's start with the exceptional. Service at Othello is outstanding. The staff work together to create a seamless experience and I was truly grateful when the hostess grabbed me a fresh napkin after noticing I dropped mine on the floor. Everything ran very smoothly and multiple people stopped by to clear plates throughout the evening. The bartender even hand delivered drinks! Now, the food. I was very unimpressed with the food at Othello. We tried a number of small plates to get a good taste for what they had to offer. Our two favorites were the batatas bravas and the seared octopus. The bravas were crispy and came with a delicious garlic sauce. The seared octopus was light and refreshing. The hummus was very standard, nothing to write home about. You have to order bread separately for it (or eat it by the spoonful I guess??) and we tried both the sea salt and olive oil and the za-atar. They were both just okay. Our last small plate was the cucumber salad and that left much to be desired- like flavor. We hardly touched it and didn't take up the offer to bring it home. The baklava was pretty standard, not the best in Jacksonville but not the worst. The bottom layer seemed slightly undercooked. The restaurant itself is very charming, albeit small. To access the restroom you have to go outside through the uncovered patio- lovely on a beautiful evening and my hair and I were grateful it hadn't been raining. I drove right by the place at first and double backed for some less than desirable street parking that later prompted my friend to walk me to my car for safety concerns. Final verdict? I don't think I'll be making the trek to Springfield again to visit this place or offering it up as a recommendation to friends. Truly disappointing as the staff is incredible but the food lacks the oomph to make it worth the trip. read more

I absolutely LOVED Othello!! The ambiance is fantastic- it looks chic, worldly, but approachable. It reminds me of a restaurant you'd see in a big city like Chicago or NYC (I lived in Chicago for 10 years, so this is a very high compliment!). The food and service also completely live up to the look of it. We were celebrating our anniversary and it was acknowledged from the moment our hostess seated us, to our server, who gave us complimentary champagne. This is not a requirement for me, by any means, but it just really shows their attention to detail. It seems that our server was having some trouble and the service was a little slow, but the owner herself came over and took our orders. We were also given a free sweet potato appetizer (4.5/5) for the trouble, which was not necessary, but still very appreciated! Now on to the food! We started with the seared octopus (5/5) which my husband was VERY reluctant to try after bad experiences with octopus in the past, but he was pleasantly surprised to find that it wasn't chewy at all. I loved the flavor combination of the tomato and the cannellini beans and how their texture provided a nice balance to the slightly crispy edges of the octopus. We also had the Za'atar bread (5/5) , which was warm, doughy, deliciousness. I can't wait to try the harissa one next time. The fattoush salad (5/5) was great too, though I love fattoush salad so I may be biased. We shared the roasted half chicken entree (5/5), which I loved. I sometimes think ordering chicken is the safe, boring choice, but the unique elements of this dish- the raisins, sweet onion relish, almonds, and saffron jus- give it a distinctive flavor unlike anything you'll find in a traditional American roasted chicken preparation. We finished with the baklava (5/5) which I described to a friend as "pistachio-forward" haha. I happen to love pistachios so that worked well for me, but if you don't then it may not be your favorite. Overall, Othello is one of the best restaurants I've tried in Jacksonville and it's a wonderful addition to the Jacksonville culinary scene! I can't wait to go back. read more

Since moving to Jax from Miami I have been missing a great unique restaurant with great food and good vibes. Othello fills the void. The cocktails that I had were fantastic and had unique flavors in familiar form. If you like Bourbon I recommend the "Neighborhood Association" I also had "The Dirtiest" martini that was familiar but elevated. I look forward to trying others next time. I ordered eggplant dip and zaa'tar bread that was rustic and reminded me of fresh chewy bread baked in the local village "fournos" in Greece I also tried the tender seared Octopus over cannellini beans that was delicious, paired with a nice fresh salad. 10/10 , the staff was friendly and knew how to cook and make cocktails. Ah, Othello serves all my favorite things! Great first experience here for a girls night happy hour. I made a reservation for 4:30 and arrived at 4:25. Everyone in the restaurant looked at me and told me they weren't open yet. Thankfully they let me stand inside for 5 minutes since it was raining outside. Right at 4:30 they seated me and my friends. Service was great! 5 stars- seriously. Very attentive and knowledgeable. They just got their liquor license, so they do have a couple cocktails. The highlight for me was the unique natural wine list. I had 2 glasses of monastrell and LOVED it! We got the tinned fish platter which included tuna pate or sardines (we got tuna), baba ganoush, feta dip, hummus, olives, bread, and pickled veggies. We added an extra fresh baked zatar bread by the servers recommendation. Delicious! The baba ganoush was my favorite. We also loved the little circle potatoes and the sauce they were on top of. I enjoyed the octopus and beans dish, but do wish there were bigger chunks of the octopus or that it was not cut up. The amount of octopus was small compared to all of the beans. They did not have any happy hour prices, but plan to in the future. The space itself is absolutely beautiful! Very cute neighborhood cafe serving up some unique and delicious small plates. Othello! Hidden gem!!!!! We started with the Salt & Olive Oil and Zaatar & Harissa breads -- fresh, fluffy, and perfect for dipping into the silky hummus and smoky babaganoush. The falafel, Batatas Bravas, and seared octopus were all spot-on, each bite packed with flavor. We ordered a second plate of the Bravas, a definite favorite. But the roasted chicken? Absolutely out of this world. Juicy, tender, seasoned to perfection -- easily one of the best chicken dishes I've ever had anywhere. We also tried the Branzino, which was beautifully done -- light, flaky, very delicious-- but the chicken absolutely stole the show. Othello nails the mix of flavor, atmosphere, and service. Let me start out by saying they did a wonderful job with the space, it's so chic and elevated yet playful and inviting. Springfield is dying for more restaurants like this one. Such a cute, trendy new place that just opened up in Springfield, perfect for date night or a night out with the girls. The ambience, service and attention to detail are top notch and 5/5! When you step into Othello you definitely feel like you've been transported to a restaurant in Europe. They killed it with the design and decor. The food was good and fresh but my bf and I felt like something was missing to really WOW us like we've heard from others. The tin fish board was the best way to try the dips, pickles, bread and choice of tin fish. We chose the sardines and they were great. The olives were different and had a nutmeg or cinnamon taste which didn't seem to go with the rest of the plate. The octopus had great flavor but I'd say had too many beans. The textures of the octopus and beans were too similar - I wish the octopus was a bit more chargrilled to add a list crisp texture. Our favorite plate was the Batatas Bravas. Crispy pillowy potatoes with a garlic and oil sauce, very good! The Serrano ham was also very good and reminded us of the Jámon we had in Portugal. I'd like to revisit Othello in a couple months to try some additional items and see how our opinions of the food differ. Beautiful ambiance, nice and attentive staff and, of course, outstanding food. Taking one star off only because they are still working out some bumps in their cocktail menu, but the wine list is solid. The lighting is just right. It's not bet loud as there are only a few tables inside. They have an absolutely gorgeous courtyard. The food though....oh, my goodness! We've had the database bravas, best I've had! Crispy, chewy, and just the right amount for sharing. Infact everything is meant to be shared! We've also shared the tin board, hummus, baba ganoush. All amazing! Zataar bread and the Marissa bread. The beads are so fresh and piping hot, chewy!!! Last night we had the oysters, delish, simple, fresh!!! For our mains. I had the lamb shank served with rice and a poached pear to die for but huge! My husband had the roast chicken with couscous. Also delish and tender. Tables inside the restaurant are a bit close together so just be ready for that. The apps or tapas style food was all wonderful the whipped feta, the bread, and the Serrano ham was amazing. Love the spice on the zaatar bread!! The shrimp cocktail was presented very nicely my bf said needed a bit more flavor tho in the boil they cook it in. We had the lamb and the chicken as mains. The chicken had crispy skin and great flavor on the jus with it. Chicken was moist and very tasty. Onions were a nice touch. The lamb was very nicely presented on the bone but the absence of a sauce or gravy with it made it not look super appetizing. The flavor was good I think just needs some refinement. The poached pear served with it was very good!!! Dessert was great tried the baklava and the rice pudding the pudding was refreshing and had some orange segments and pistachios with it. We had reservations on a Thursday at the bar and we seated immediately when we arrived. The inside is beautiful and there is a nice outside patio as well. The bartender was very nice and answered any questions we had about the menu or their favorite things on the menu. This definitely is a restaurant for sharing, which we knew before coming, and I loved everything we ordered. I got one drink the pink and white which was very pretty and delicious, not too sweet but not overly strong either. My favorite was the tinned fish plate which had all of the dips and some picketed vegetables and olives and a spicy tuna pate which was the best tuna I have ever had. The fried smelt I loved, simple but delicious and the sauce made it even better. We also got the sweet potato over tahini which the tahini really enhanced the potato and made it taste so rich and creamy. The falafel were so crunchy and delicious. The chorizo mushrooms and couscous were so good, I've never had couscous before but it as so light and fluffy. You do have to order bread separately but the sea salt bread was so delicious and came out warm, the size was good for two or three people. I would love to come back here and honestly just order drinks and the dips, it was a great place to catch up with friends and have a longer more chill dinner. read more

This place is doing all the right things! I was so surprised to hear that they're a fairly new restaurant that hasn't been open for very long because our experience was pretty much perfect. The ambiance was wonderfully calming and cozy. The hostess was so sweet and accommodating even though we didn't have a reservation. We sat at the bar and still had as good of an experience as we would've sitting at a table. Lexi and Caz behind the bar were so helpful and had many great suggestions. Although they were out a few things being that it was the last dinner service of the week (saturday), we took it as a positive sign that the food was very good, and we were right. The whipped feta with bread was creamy, tangy and well seasoned. The shrimp cocktail was so fresh and delicious (we attempted to order another order, but they sold out while we were still there, it's that GOOD). The hamachi crudo was an intriguing pallet cleanser to end our meal.
