Amazing culinary experience from start to finish! Our group of 4 enjoyed sharing harissa and za'atar bread with feta and hummus, tuna and the carrot salad. We then went for the lamb shank for our main course. 1 order of the shank at that point was enough for all of us. Everything was absolutely delicious! Everyone enjoyed their drinks as well. Service was impeccable. As soon as we arrived we were greeted warmly. We arrived early thinking we could sit at the bar but unfortunately seats at the bar are also reserved so best to avoid coming early for your reservation since there is no room to hang out inside. Luckily you could order drinks and they'd bring them out front to you! Once seated you can take in the beauty of the restaurant itself. Serene indoor area and a lovely outside courtyard as well. Celebrated my husbands birthday! What a great experience! I made reservations for the bar. It was a little tight but enjoyable. Bar servers were fantastic. Very knowledgeable about the menu and drinks. I had the sangria( happy hour special) and my husband had the neighborhood association made with bourbon. They were both very good. For starters we shared the whipped feta, hummus with sea salt bread and harissa bread. All were fabulous but the feta...OMG. It was amazing!!! For main course we shared the roasted chicken with couscous topped with onions. They also brought us a baked sweet potato. I don't remember the preparation but wow! So flavorful! Othello is an excellent choice for a higher end dinner. Serving Mediterranean food with influences from the Middle East to Spain, the food and drinks are excellent. I recommend ordering a lot of their smaller plates and sharing with your group, rather than getting an entree, because those are the best dishes. Must-orders are the bread (zaatar was our favorite), hummus, whipped feta, patatas bravas, and octopus (the navy beans are amazing). Caesar salad was great too. We did not like the scallop crudo. Drinks are delicious - I highly recommend their orange Lebanese wine. Service is excellent. Indoor ambiance is very cozy and modern - really well designed. While I love their outdoor space, the outdoor plastic furniture could use a replacement. If you live here you need to check this place out. read more

I was a magical night at Othello. We arrived early prior to our reservation time to take advantage of the happy hour. We were graciously accommodated at the bar in a cozy corner. We meet "Kaz" our wonderful server/bartender. Celebrating my friend Barbara's birthday prior to a concert at the Ritz. Our evening was slow and well paced as we dined on Hummus, Baba Ganoush, Whipped Feta and delish bread. My first drink was a spicy perfectly balanced "No Seeds No Stems" with green chile vodka. This place had been on our list to try for a while and we recently made it there. It's located on a corner in a residental neighborhood. Street parking wasn't an issue. Walking inside, I was surprised by how small it was. There were only a few tables but I noticed a nice patio with tables and chairs which was not in use. I tried of their mocktaiks, after learning that they won't modify any of their signature cocktails to omit the alcohol. At my server's suggestion, I ordered the "take in the sweetness", which was made with chamomile tea and tasted very florally. It was a bit strange and nothing I would order again. The food was fortunately better. We started with the fried smelt, baba ghanoush, and za'atar bread. This was followed by the seared octopus and batatas bravas. For the entrees, we split the roasted half chicken and butterflied branzino. The appetizers were all very good and the octopus was outstanding. It was well seasoned and the addition of the beans added a little more substance. The branzino had great taste and was cooked very well. The chicken was moist but it lacked seasoning, as did the accompanying couscous. I probably should've started this review with mentioning the baklava as that was my favorite dish that we tried. I am not a huge baklava fan but this one was so good that I could've eaten both pieces by myself. It was perfectly sweet and flaky and it didn't have a strong floral taate, which I appreciated. The menu is relatively small and we had an opportunity to try almost everything that wanted to except the lamb perhaps. So while this isn't a place I would be retrying to repeatedly, it was quite good. read more

Othello is this hidden gem sitting inside a historic residential area. Its cozy and warm vibe is very inviting, which goes along with the staff's friendly service. The food is meant to be shared, the patatas bravas are good for 2-3 people but no more; they were delicious and very savory. As for the whipped feta it great to be combined with the harissa bread, although to be honest you would need to bread orders to go through it. I was so excited to try the newest Greek food restaurant in Jacksonville. This is more a trendy take on Greek food, but still really good. The dips are amazing! The bread is amazing! The cocktails were fun. The wine seemed a bit too pricey in my opinion so I stuck with cocktails. As you would expect from a trendy restaurant, you have to pay for bread. If I could give 10 stars I would! I was visiting Jax for the first time and it was recommended that I come to Othello before I leave. What an amazing dining experience it was! Such unique combinations of flavors and textures I didn't know were possible. I almost didn't even want to leave! We ordered several tapas - - pickles: they were pickled radishes and cauliflower, they were okay, but probably wouldn't order again - whipped feta: great flavor but too salty. Also, didn't come with anything to dip it with?? Had to purchase bread separately (bread is homemade and is great). My recommendation is to up the price a little so bread can be included and curb the salt a touch. - Batatas Bravas: excellent take on this dish, would order again. - Kibbeh: also very good - seared octopus: my personal favorite of the night, the cannellini beans were a nice touch - half dozen oysters: these were good, their homemade vinegar sauce was excellent. Had the harissa branzino for my dinner. Perfectly cooked and spiced. The side salad was the perfect compliment to the spicy fish. Was too full for dessert so I opted to take the baklava to go. There is a decent bit more seating outside on a cute patio. It has a covering but still seems like it could be hot sometimes. Service was very good. Sufficient and not too much. We tried a lot of things. Everything was good but several things were great. Favorites were the falafel balls & batatas bravas that were on special, fried cheese and the sweet potato (a weird concept for me that turned out to be very tasty). Cute new restaurant in Springfield. Note there's only street parking, and this place is small! Maybe 3-4 tables of 4 and 3-4 tables on 2. They do have an outside area and I'm unsure of how many tables are outside. The place is so cute and inviting. They serve all natural wines that are delicious. Our table of 3 ordered 4 appetizers, 1 main and 1 dessert. Everything is meant to be shared. The whipped feta we added the harissa bread and the sea salt and olive oil bread, it was light and the bread baked to order! The cucumber salad was delicious and light, the hamachi crudo tasted fresh and very well balanced with herbs. Our main was the roasted half chicken, amazing! We purchased three tickets ($35 each) for this restaurant's New Year's Eve event expecting a fun and well-run celebration. Unfortunately, it ended with a very frustrating and unprofessional experience. Upon arrival, we were given a small card to track drink orders. What was never clearly communicated by staff or signage was a small note at the bottom stating that if a tab wasn't closed, $75 plus tax and tip would automatically be added per ticket. Our group did not order any drinks or food at all, and nothing was written on our card. Because we didn't purchase anything, closing a tab was never even on our minds. Despite this, we later discovered an additional $290 was charged to our card after the event. It is incredibly irresponsible for a restaurant hosting a major holiday event to place the burden of "tab management" entirely on guests rather than their own staff. If nothing was ordered, there should be no tab to close and certainly no automatic charge. Policies like this should be clearly explained, not hidden in fine print on a small card. Even more disappointing was the restaurant's lack of accountability when we raised the issue. Charging customers hundreds of dollars for items that were never ordered reflects serious negligence in both service and billing practices. For a New Year's Eve event, where a venue is responsible for managing orders and tabs, this was a major failure in professionalism and guest care. After a near $400 on an evening we feel robbed and horrified by this experience. read more

Great new addition to Jacksonville. I went with 3 friends and we had drinks and split appetizers on their outdoor patio. We ordered the hummus, whipped feta, hamachi crudo and fattoush salad with all 3 bread offerings. All of the dishes were great, although I was surprised that they didn't have a pita bread or crisp offering with the dips. The presentation was great and all the food was fresh and light, with the bread fresh baked. The service was good and everyone was attentive, consistently checking in but not in an overbearing way. We stumbled upon Othello during a casual Sunday afternoon bike ride through Springfield and are so glad we did! The sweet hostess helped us to store our bikes in the courtyard so we could sit at the bar. Our bartender, Kenny, was helpful in explaining the menu and very attentive. We decided on the Smokeshow and Neighborhood Association from the cocktail menu- both absolutely delicious. From the variety of plates we sampled, 5 stars awarded across the board. Whipped feta? Visited on a Saturday around 5:30pm and they were already bustling. Due to rain, the outdoor seating was closed. Didn't have a reservation and was informed they were fully booked. Went back to the car to find an alternative restaurant when the host found us and told us someone had called to cancel right after we left. How lucky! We got seated at the bar and ordered a glass of wine. Happy hour was until 6:30 so we ordered the fried smelt, half dozen oysters and shrimp cocktail from the HH menu. We also ordered the Baba Ghanoush with the olive oil and salt bread and Harissa bread. For the entree, we ordered the Butterflied Branzino to share. Everything we ordered came out fairly quickly and was delicious! Oysters were light and sweet and the shrimp were very jumbo. I especially enjoyed the fried smelt. It was lightly battered and fried and came with an aioli. The Baba Ghanoush was the best I've ever had and it was perfect with the olive oil and salt bread. The branzino was so flakey and warm and a bite with the fish and herb salad was perfection. Ended the evening with baklava. Couldn't go wrong. The restaurant is small and quaint and the staff was friendly and sweet. I even got a plant cutting to take home! What a great place for date night. Inside is pretty small with maybe 8 tables and a bar, out back a pretty patio fully covered from the sun( thank you! ) with a bathroom. Now to the food we came for brunch which is a smaller menu, we got a bunch and shared: Fried cheese- delicious! i think it was halloumi (?) cheese fried and drizzled with honey, we all loved this! I love that you have the option for inside or out. And can get a peak into the kitchen from the dining area. The food is very good. The menu rotates which I enjoy as this typically means things are fresh and in season. We had the breakfast spread, fried cheese (this was my absolute favorite, dreamed about it for days after), croque habibti, sweet potato, French toast, patatas, baklava, and the latte with honey and almond milk. There was not a single thing on the menu we didn't love! I overly love this restaurant! This was some of the freshest food that I've had. They serve Mediterranean flavors with some amazing cocktails and wine. The batatas bravas, which are fried potato balls were really good and I'm surely going back for them! I'm blown away by this restaurant! The interior is so chic and welcoming. The restaurant itself seems to be in a small neighborhood which gives charm to such a delightful place. I will start that this is such a cute restaurant nestle away inside Springfield. When walking in it feels warm and inviting. The staff greeted us promptly and had our table waiting (we had a reservation). Our server was excited to tell us about the menu and provide suggestions or explanations as needed. Now as far as the food, everything we ordered was great! The only thing I'd say is the cucumber salad wasn't as flavorful as the rest of the dishes. But everything else was full of flavor without being overly salted which usually is hard with this many dishes being served. Over all we had a great experience and our food was great. I was very excited to hear about Othello's opening. Let's start with the exceptional. Service at Othello is outstanding. The staff work together to create a seamless experience and I was truly grateful when the hostess grabbed me a fresh napkin after noticing I dropped mine on the floor. Everything ran very smoothly and multiple people stopped by to clear plates throughout the evening. The bartender even hand delivered drinks! Now, the food. I was very unimpressed with the food at Othello. We tried a number of small plates to get a good taste for what they had to offer. Our two favorites were the batatas bravas and the seared octopus. The bravas were crispy and came with a delicious garlic sauce. The seared octopus was light and refreshing. The hummus was very standard, nothing to write home about. You have to order bread separately for it (or eat it by the spoonful I guess??) and we tried both the sea salt and olive oil and the za-atar. They were both just okay. Our last small plate was the cucumber salad and that left much to be desired- like flavor. We hardly touched it and didn't take up the offer to bring it home. The baklava was pretty standard, not the best in Jacksonville but not the worst. The bottom layer seemed slightly undercooked. The restaurant itself is very charming, albeit small. To access the restroom you have to go outside through the uncovered patio- lovely on a beautiful evening and my hair and I were grateful it hadn't been raining. I drove right by the place at first and double backed for some less than desirable street parking that later prompted my friend to walk me to my car for safety concerns. Final verdict? I don't think I'll be making the trek to Springfield again to visit this place or offering it up as a recommendation to friends.
