Decided to step out with the hubby for a late night bite to eat and Cataluna landed as the place to go. Not my first visit but was surprised at the turn up and live Dj helping catch the vibes. Service wasn't as fast as it usually is but the couples next to us helped pass the time. Food wasn't rushed because of the crowd and was absolutely delicious. Only thing I didn't ask for was a side of cheeks with my meals. Some women should dress accordingly especially at a restaurant where children could possibly be in attendance. If there was a cutoff time for children, I didn't see it. Club setting perfectly fine but a restaurant.... My wife and I came to Cataluna for a late dinner. There is a large shared parking lot and valet. There is ample dining area outside. We opted for indoor seating. I was pleased with the overall appearance of the dining area. It was intimate and felt romantic...at first. The place is nice but it doubles as a lounge after maybe 10pm or so. This made what started out as a romantic dinner, turn into a rush to get home. It became super crowded near where we were seated and the service became stretched. The food was good. There was complimentary bread that came with an olive oil dip reminiscent of Carabba's. For dinner I ordered tuna crudo, shrimp and lobster pappardelle , mushroom arancini, and brussel sprouts. I won't go as far to say that anything was mind blowing but the dishes tasted good. The pappardelle was the star it was balanced and loaded with fresh shrimp and lobster throughout. The mushroom dish was pretty much a risotto ball that was breaded and fried. The tuna crudo was okay, fresh but lacking acidity and umami. The brussel sprouts were charred nicely and came with a yogurt sauce. There was an array of dinks. Cocktails, wine, champagne service, and two bars to sit and have drinks or dinner. I ended up getting the Sirocco cocktail x2. The drink was made well and tasted good. I would definitely give Cataluna another shot, just not so close to party time. We were celebrating our anniversary and it was noted in the reservation, yet the staff said nothing and did nothing to make us feel celebrated. My husband is a beer drinker and asked the server for beer options and was only given one option. Then, another party sat next to us and the guy asked about beer selection and the same server gave him more options and one my husband would have preferred. Very disappointed. We were looking for someplace new to have dinner tonight and I found this place on OpenTable. I am so glad I did because it is a beautiful space and the food was pretty good too. The cuisine is mediterrean. They have plenty of good sounding hot and cold appetizers. We started with the Greek Mezze Board. It had hummus, baba ganoush, whipped feta, mahummura, warm pita and seasonal vegetables. We also had the mixed olives appetizer. It all tasted great. The upscale atmosphere, exotic entertainment, and refined dishes make you feel like you've been transported to Miami or Las Vegas, not your own backyard in the 904. When you walk in, you're greeted by Insta worthy décor. The bar is gorgeous, the drinks are beautifully garnished and are just as delicious as they look. Service was friendly, however, our table wasn't ready at our reservation time. It wasn't a dealbreaker, we were excited to enjoy a drink at the bar, but we were definitely hungry by the time we were seated. With how busy the restaurant was, I can understand tables taking longer to turn. Went to Catalina on a Friday night and the vibe was amazing! The place was pretty full and we didn't have e a reservation, but we were able to be seated without a wait. They do have bar top seating that (like any bar) is first come first serve. Walking in, there is a lot going on in the best way possible. The place is visually stunning, there was a stage with a DJ and a couple of dancers. At one point during the night, patrons received candle sparklers to hold up and wave. Quite the vibe! Their cocktail menu is quite unique and the drinks they make are like art, not simply shake and pour into a glass. The food menu is refreshingly different also. Most items are à la carte vs a meal (think tapas). I ordered the soy braised pork belly, potato millefuille, and grilled asparagus. I had the Musa cocktail to drink. Given how busy they were, service was unfortunately slow. Our waitress was appropriately apologetic, but nonetheless, service was slow. Because of this, my food wasn't hot when received. I didn't want to send it back and further wait, so I didn't say anything. Despite it not being hit, it was actually still amazing. This is a testimony to how well the dishes truly are. One cool note is the potato millefuille is topped with truffle filled little balls that look like caviar. Note, they are not actual fish eggs but rather truffle oil filled caviar replicas. They really enhance the potatoes. I really, it was quite the vibe. The drinks are a hair higher than average but worth it given the vibe and presentation in my opinion. Cocktails: We started with a Mediterranean Sunset (8/10) -- bright, refreshing, and a solid opener. But the real surprise was the Amor in Capri (9.5/10). I'm not a bourbon fan, but this cocktail might have converted me. Smooth, balanced, and dangerously drinkable. Appetizers: The Mediterranean Octopus was a showstopper -- 10/10. Perfectly tender with a char that added just enough smokiness. Probably the best I've had anywhere. The Braised Pork Belly followed closely behind (9.5/10). Rich, melt-in-your-mouth texture with a sweet-savory glaze that didn't overpower. Entrées: Scallops came out beautifully seared and buttery -- 9.7/10. If you like scallops, these are a must. The Half Rack of Lamb was cooked to perfection (9/10), though the tzatziki didn't quite land for me -- felt like a mismatch with the rest of the plate. Brussel Sprouts (9/10) were crispy, caramelized, and totally craveable. Even sprout skeptics would approve. Dessert: We ended with the Molten Dulce de Leche (9/10). I'm usually not into molten cakes, and while the molten center wasn't my favorite part, the flavor overall was rich and indulgent without being too sweet. This restaurant was, unfortunately, a miserable experience from start to finish. Reservation & Seating: While I wasn't the one who made the reservation, I understand our party size changed during the day, which can complicate timing. Still, having a 7:30 p.m. reservation pushed to 8:30, and then again to 9:45, was unreasonable. Four of us arrived early, around 9:15, and were told our table wasn't ready. We waited at the bar. By 9:45, when the rest of our group arrived, the table still wasn't available. Eventually--at 10:20--we were seated at a smaller table that had been open the entire time. It was uncomfortable and clearly not meant for our party size. Service: Being seated that late wasn't ideal for anyone, but the service made things worse. Our large group had only one server, which seemed unfair both to her and to us. On my end of the table, five people shared a single bottle of water. I drank my glass of water immediately, and it was never refilled, despite being empty for the entire evening. Drink orders (placed shortly after we were seated) didn't arrive until after our main courses. No one checked in once the food came out. One person in our group disliked her entrée so much that she didn't eat it, but no one followed up or offered to make it right. Food & Drinks: The truffle fries were the only highlight. Most dishes were underwhelming or flavorless. They were out of flatbreads and ran out of truffle pasta right as I ordered. I settled for the spicy seafood pasta, which was fine but forgettable. My friend got the last truffle pasta, but it was bland and disappointing. Billing Issues: At the bar, before the rest of our party arrived and before we were seated, my friend and I ordered glasses of wine. Our two checks were auto-gratuited without notice. Later, at the table, a service fee was added again--understandable for a large group, but still not mentioned in advance. The worst part: everyone at the table was charged $6.50 for water. No one told us there was a charge, and recall that my single glass was never refilled. Facilities: By the time I used the restroom, it was out of toilet paper. That about summed up the night. While I recognize this might not be a typical experience--perhaps a smaller party or earlier seating would fare better--our visit was disorganized, frustrating, and far from worth the price or reputation. Finally tried Cataluna Jax last night and it impressed us from the start. The atmosphere is gorgeous--luxurious lounge vibes that make you feel like you've escaped JAX altogether. The table bread was great, though I'd love to see a bit more seasoning added to the oil, as it felt like it was served plain. The bruschetta was excellent, but the real standout was the whipped feta--absolutely amazing! We ordered the baba ganoush with hummus and pitas for the table, and everything was packed with flavor. The warm pitas were perfect. For entrées, we went with the Wagyu NY strip, cucumber salad, and truffle fries. I have to say--this was one of the BEST steaks we've had in JAX. Perfectly cooked and incredibly flavorful. For dessert, we tried the Dubai chocolate cheesecake, and it was outstanding--rich, decadent, but not overly sweet. Our server was wonderful and attentive at first, but as he picked up a few more tables, the service slowed a bit. I celebrated my birthday at Cataluna, and while the restaurant itself is absolutely beautiful, my experience left a lot to be desired. The space gives off a luxurious, high end vibe. The kind of place that makes you excited to dress up and celebrate something special. Unfortunately, the service and seating situation didn't match the atmosphere or the price tag. I made dinner reservations well in advance for a party of eight, clearly noting that it was for a birthday celebration. To my surprise and disappointment, when we arrived, we were seated at what was essentially a coffee table tucked into a corner. Imagine trying to enjoy a multi-course meal while bending over your plate. It was almost comical. There was barely any room on the table. Dishes and drinks were piled on top of one another, making it hard to relax or truly enjoy the experience. Now, to be fair, the food and drinks were beautifully presented and tasted delicious. The flavors were on point, and visually, everything looked great. But it's hard to appreciate good food and feel like you're in a fine dining establishment when you're eating in such an uncomfortable setup. For a bill that totaled over $1,500, we expected more.. better service, better seating, and a more consistent sense of luxury. Especially since the restaurant asks guests to "dress to impress", yet I noticed several people in jeans and sneakers being let in without question. So I'm not sure how they pick and choose, when I read other reviews of people being turned away from not adhering to the dress code. Also, one of my guests brought a camera for the occasion and he was told he was not allowed to take photos even though we just stayed in our corner. But every table had cell phones out taking pictures, so I'm not sure what that was about. I ordered the tomahawk steak, while it was very tender and flavorful, I did not finish all of it, and I wanted to bring the rest home to my dog. I was told they did not have any to go boxes. Considering it is one of the more pricier items on the menu, I was not going to leave it there on that plate. And I put it in one of my birthday bags. Hahaha. Not my proudest moment, but what's a girl to do? I paid for it and I love my dog. It felt like the standards were applied inconsistently, and the overall experience didn't live up to the image Cataluna tries to project. It took me a while to write this review because I truly wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt. My guests and I made the best of it, enjoyed each other's company, and tried to laugh it off, but it's not the experience you want for a special occasion. I hope the team at Cataluna reads this and takes it as constructive feedback, because the potential is absolutely there: stunning ambiance, good food, and creative drinks. The ambiance, music, and drinks are all incredible, with plenty of cute photo spots and a lively yet relaxed vibe. The food is to die for and the menu changes frequently with fun seasonal items. I think it can be fun to go to Cataluna for drinks, a few appeys, hang out with friends / family while listening to what live music / entertainment, and just enjoy the beautifully decorated space. Hubby and I gave it a try and did enjoy the experience. We liked the space, the service, the atmosphere, but honestly, the food was probably the weakest link. We each ordered a cocktail (not bad), shared an appetizer (grilled octopus, good), and for entrees, I trie the scollops (not great) and hubby tried the lamb chops (not bad). We also had a couple of sides (crispy Brussel sprouts and truffle fries, both were ok). Everyone enjoyed their cocktails, the food was spectacular, and the overall vibe was great! The service was astonishing. We were grateful to have John as our waiter, who was best accommodating. This restaurant has been around for a couple of years - I've passed it many times, but I usually forget it since it's at the back of a shopping center. It offers a lot of different experiences. We went for dinner and enjoyed small plate appetizers rather than the full entree menu. We were told that as the night gets later they bring in music and dancers which isn't exactly my vibe. We were there for dinner at around 5:00-6:00 p.m. which is their relative quieter time. The Greek mezze board, olives, and braised pork belly were terrific - I should have probably saved some room for dessert. Pricing averaged about $45 per person all in. We weren't drinking alcohol, but they do have a really interesting mocktail called the burano which offers a mix of multiple citrus juices along with citrus ice cubes - it was delicious. Service from Taly was friendly throughout. I'll look forward to returning soon. read more

I had to give Cataluna three stars bc there were some really great things and then some really sub par things. Pork belly and mezza dip platter amazing. Cocktail was not anything great, I switched to wine after having a drink. Gyoza was like warm at best and I never tasted shrimp or scallop inside. Satay was also like warm and nothing great. I have had better gyoza and satay out of a food truck. The servers were amazing and constantly checking on us. The fire dancer was really cool too. Went to Cataluna Jax last night for dinner and was severely underwhelmed and was later met with a horrible stomachache. I've been before when they first opened and everything was super good but they fell short last night. The bruschetta was yummy although I wish the bread was toasted a bit more and the drinks were good. For my entree I had the shrimp and lobster pasta which was probably the worst dish of the night. It was not seasoned at all, it just tasted like lobster water but nothing else and the noodles were also not seasoned and mushy. The Greek salad was ok, and the lamb chop was ok as well - but I think it was the culprit for my stomach upset as, it was the one thing shared between me and my dinner guest (and we both didn't feel well after.) The fries were probably the best part of the night but other than that it wasn't worth the price. You're truly paying for the ambiance and not necessarily the food, which is pricey so it's a disappointment to experience less than. read more

Cataluna is such a beautiful cocktail lounge! Me and my best gal loved how gorgeous this space is, how delicious the cocktails are, and how skilled the bartenders are. Even the mocktails are so good! I couldnt stop taking pictures. Time flew by sitting in the comfy bar stools, and it was closing time before we knew it. Plenty of free parking or valet (kudos to the fancy cars lined up out front). Cataluna offers dining tables, lounge areas, and bar seating. On this fri night the dj started around 1030p and last call was at 1130p. 2nd visit and much better than the first! This time I went for a friend's birthday with a group of about 13 women. We were promptly seated in one of the front corners and our drink orders were taken. I ordered a glass of Sauvignon Blanc, can't go wrong. We waited on the last of our group for awhile so I can't fault the timeliness of the service. We ordered the bruschetta appetizer to share and the bread was incredible - a toasted garlic baguette and the bruschetta was an interesting blend of zucchini, eggplant, and peppers. I would order it again if someone in my party was interested, but would likely try something else next time. For my main I ordered the rigatoni ragu which notably consisted of rigatoni noodles, short rib, and mushrooms. They definitely didn't skimp on the short rib, but it also wasn't the most tender. Overall, the dish was good but I would likely try something else next time as well. Lastly, the birthday girl brought her own cake and we were each charged a $5 cake fee. I have no problem with this, but with a group of 13 the cake cutting fee ended up costing more than the cake itself! The entire waitstaff service is top-notch - our primary server was Maria (from the Ukraine) and she was anticipatory, knowledgeable and attentive; each and every employee was welcoming, gracious, polite and incredibly inclusive. We sat in the VIP lounge and overlooked the other areas of the restaurant. The bartenders are true mixologists and they have constructed unique drinks with a flair unlike anything you've had before. (think a cool "chem lab") Great music piped in as well that while you heard it; you didn't have to yell to be heard. You can definitely tell a lot of thought went into planning for the consumer experience. The food was presented with flair - all dishes arriving within seconds of one another. The bruschetta app, I would take a pass (sometimes you shouldn't mess with a known good thing) - but the flatbread and the butternut squash ravioli great flavor and delicious. Definitely portioned to share with party's of 4. Dinner ranged from melt-in-your-mouth short rib ravioli to tasty salmon to steak that was just "ok" to a whole fish that was consumed with gusto and bones cleaned. The desserts were equally delightful and we all enjoyed them as evidenced by our clean plates. A mesh-up of flavors fused to delight taste buds. Pearls of passion fruit that burst in your mouth - Yawza! Overall, a great new addition to our city and a wonderful nightlife destination. Really enjoyed this restaurant. The service was REALLLY good and the vibe was very elegant and upscale. The food was delicious and I really enjoyed the lamb appetizer. Only feedback I have is the music is pretty loud, and it can be hard to hear the people at your table. read more

We had been hearing able Cataluna since it was announced they were opening here in JAX and we finally made it out for dinner. We arrived for our 7:30PM reservation and were told our table wasn't ready so we grabbed a seat at the bar. I will say the inside here is beautiful. They really pull at lot of work into this place and it show. By the time we had gotten drink menus we were told our table we really so we ended up just getting drinks at the table. When walking around we also noticed Cataluna has lounge access like a club. Not really my style now but maybe 5-10 years ago could be something I would be interested in for a birthday or sometime. I will say the lounge and the seated dinner spots were separated too which was nice. We ordered drinks and I went with an Old Fashioned with Rittenhouse Rye was was good. We also checked out some the of specials and what really caught our eye was the Scallop & Lobster Wonton. This sounded really good to us so we ordered 2. Once our wontons came out we were pretty disappointed. For a Scallop & Lobster Wonton it was extremely bland not the riches and flavor you would expect from this type of dish. I was also served with Lobster Consomme and Chili Oil and this did nothing for it either. For my entrée I went with the Pappardelle Shrimp & Lobster. This was the winner for entrée of the night for our table. I nice large serving of fresh Pappardelle with Shrimp & Lobster in a flavorful sauce. I would for sure recommend getting this. We also ordered the Truffle Fries which were great and everyone enjoyed them. A great get for the table to share. Once we got the check I noticed my drink was double the price I expected (they had the whiskey prices on the menu). When I bought it up to our waitress she told me that they were out of the bourbon/rye I asked for and give me what they had but at double the price. I get if you're out of what I ordered fine, but let me know ahead of if time. Since it was a better bourbon/rye I would have rather had it neat at that point and I still had to pay the price for the higher whiskey I didn't want originally. Really left a bad taste in our mouth at the end of dinner. Cataluna is for sure gorgeous inside but it really isn't my style and probably would not come back. read more
