This is a great new spot in Jacksonville Beach, right by City Hall. We had an easy time parking at the lot on 2nd Ave North, which is either a lot you can pay on an app, or they have valet parking. There's also plenty of street parking in the area, if you're fortunate. Once inside, it's a beautiful job that they've done - this is a relatively newer restaurant, tastefully renovated. Windows give a great view of the outside from every direction, and there's even patio seating outside. We sat at one of the inside tables along the window and we were quickly approached for drinks and be informed of specials. Each of the people in our party had something different, everything was a hit. I had the tagliatelle with shrimp which was delicious. With excellent food, vibe, service, and reasonable pricing, this will certainly be a place we revisit the next time we're in the mood for Mediterranean / Greek cuisine. read more

My friends and I booked dinner reservations a few weeks ago for this new location. We live near the beach but had traveled across town a handful of times to eat at the Riverside location, so we were excited to try the new location at the beach. First the restaurant is beautiful! Much nicer inside than the Riverside location. However, I think the food is better at the Riverside location. We started with the Mezza board as usual with extra pita and the pita was not great. One piece was charred and they did replace that. I'm not a big eater so often times I just eat off that for my entree. We also ordered fries to start and they were a bit greasy and limp. My friends split the gem salad and the steak with carrots. They thought the salad looked better than tasted but enjoyed the steak and carrots., I always take my own wine and pay the corkage fee at all restaurants and I feel like it was less in Riverside but I could be wrong. $30 corkage fee. Honestly, the service by Michael- one of the best servers ever and I'm ver picky- and the attitude was the best! They are very busy so I would suggest reservations. I heard Octopus as an entree and that was all I needed to here. I found a reason to go in celebrating my babe's recent promotion and decided to take him here. Win-win, right? We knew the area since it's a sister restaurant to Oaxaca Club and we went there awhile back. This time around the parking gods were smiling down on us as someone was coming out right as we were pulling in near the entrance. We walked it in and at first it felt more open than OC did and not as decorated but the vibe was definitely there. Lots of people in the front and all around the bar. There's a semi-private dining area up front that can be closed with curtains, go to know. We at next to a window on the side and were able to take everything in. Our server Jose was fantastic in making us feel welcome and giving recommendations. Sparkling water? Check. Amaretto Sours? Double-check. Jose recommended Mezze board? Woowee! We both do not like eggplant. Tell me why the Baba Ganoush dip on the board was the first one to go? It tastes nothing like eggplant and we agreed that if we could eat it like that forever we'd never say no to it. Don't get me wrong, the Hummus and the Tzatziki are good along with the picked veggies and that warm pita bread, but Baba Ganoush is life. I got the Grilled Octopus as my entree, that's what I was there for. It was sitting on a small hill of fingerling potatoes, Spanish chorizo, and herbs. The potatoes were just ok, that chorizo was sooooo smoky like it absorbed everything that came off the wood. Such great flavor. The octopus was perhaps the most tender pieces I've ever had in my life, hands down. I did wish there was a whole tentacle, but I was happy with what I had. I also got two sides, the Orzo Pilaf, which I had to ask myself, "Why am I not eating this on the regular??? This is delicious!". Also the Moroccan Carrots, because spices. These were nicely spiced and charred to perfection. He got the Lamb Shank and couldn't stop talking about how good it was. I tried a bit of it and it was pretty tasty but I loved my octopus. We got full too soon and over-ordered so we had quite a bit of leftovers to take home. I felt bad at first because my eyes were bigger than my stomach but then I thought I get to stretch this moment out a few more days. No need to feel bad about anything. Oh, one other diner told us the baklava is killer. We were too full and were already taking home too much food, otherwise we would have had some dessert. Next time though. Honest review- Jax Beach location Aim - To meet a friend early for Happy Hour -A very attractive place with a Mediterranean flare. I was very impressed by the chairs & bar stools. It shows attention to detail. Someone actually sat on these to see if they were comfortable & they are! We took a seat at the bar to have some drinks & apps & to catch up. The bartenders were how can I say this - standoffish. Were they trying to be aloof ? Showing the place is sophisticated? Idk but it didn't make for a good vibe especially when the place was so empty. So no Happy Hour - very disappointing but not a deal breaker. I am very familiar with & enjoy many types of wines however, a lot of wines on their menu stumped me as they were mostly Greek. There were a few Italians, and others but I was not familiar with them.The bartender gave me a taste of an Italian white that I spotted on the menu. It looked like a reasonable price at $12, and $24 written above the wine without the word " ounce " written next to it on the menu. ( keep that in mind.) My friend asked if they had blue cheese olives for the martini she ordered & they did not, disappointing. The bartender told her they had some plain green olives & my friend agreed. ( Keep this in mind ) We decided to share the cauliflower appetizer. It was nicely presented on a bed of yogurt but there was a large oil ring around the dish that made it too greasy. The cauliflower had no flavor as to my friend asked for salt. There was a tiny spot here and there of green harissa which was flavorful and delicious but sadly not nearly enough to make this dish tasty. After one drink and our appetizer we decided to move on & asked for the check. The total was @$63. Pretty high we thought for two drinks and an appetizer. Upon inspecting the bill I saw I was charged $24 for an average size pour of wine. When I asked the bartender about the $12 price I saw on the menu he replied " That's for a three ounce pour. ". Who orders three ounces of wine? Did he even ask me what size glass I wanted when I ordered it? Nope! To add insult to injury they charged an extra $3 to my friend's martini for those three little olives. I don't mind spending money when I go out but I don't like not knowing up front what I'm spending. Why not say, " It's three dollars additional for the olives" or "would you like the three ounce pour or the 6 oz?" Judging by how empty the place was it's evident that they are trying to increase their revenue. I read so many good reviews but upon inspection the other locations reviews seem to jumbled together with this location. Would I go back ? Maybe but with all the choices in the area it would be a long while. read more

Last weekend we were at Jacksonville Beach and noticed this new restaurant. Today we decided to give it a try for dinner and it ended up being a great experience. It is in a beautiful space on 1st Avenue north with a big parking lot behind the restaurant. They have plenty of indoor, outdoor, bar and rooftop seating. We were given a nice table right by the windows. The menu offers plenty of appetizers, pizzas, salads, and entrees. We started with the mezo board. It consisted of tzatziki dip, hummus, and baba ganoush, along with pita and pickled vegetables. All of it tasted great. For entrees we had the Salsiccia pizza, the bucatini and trufles pasta dish, the shrimp tagliatelle pasta dish, and the lamb kebab. All of the entrees were delicious as well. Beautiful new restaurant in Jax beach. I've been to the Riverside location and was really excited about there being another Alder & Oak closer to me. It's beautiful and modern with a great bar to get drinks (the one with dill is my personal fav). Our server was very attentive and my salad was great and HUGE. They lost our reservation which my type A friend never loses. It was a birthday celebration and the bar had a wonderful bartender. I recommend getting the Lamb shank and the truffle bucatini. I have been waiting for the beach location to open and was not disappointed. They did a great job with the remodel and the service was great. We started with the Tzatziki, which my bf said was amazing.. I am not a big Tzatziki fan in general, but the pita was fluffy and fresh. We then split the Lobster Tagliatelle and Margherita pizza. Both were amazing! The pasta had large chunks of lobster and a light tomato sauce. The pizza was one of the best I've had, especially in Jax. I would recommend splitting it though, as it was very rich. There was a ton more on the menu I wanted to try, so I have a feeling we will be back! read more

Atmosphere was great, employees were friendly and present whenever needed, but the food was just alright. Tried the margarita pizza from a friend's order and that tasted like an authentic Italian pizza with FLAVOR but I was disappointed in my own dish which was the chicken souvlaki. The chicken flavor was barely there, didn't care for the pickled mixed veggies it came with, the fries weren't extraordinary, and if it wasn't for the tzatziki which made the whole dish taste more decent, I probably would've had to order a whole other dish altogether. The service and the ambiance are very good, the bar vibe is impressive. I would say the food is good, had the octopus and was good, but not a lot of food. My party of six all agreed, wish there were more just other casual sitting at the bar menu choices . Hopefully they will find the dishes that work, and get rid of the ones that don't. We called ahead to ask if our reservation could be moved up and were specifically told they could accommodate us and to come in. We arrived approximately 10 minutes later, only to be told they could not seat us. Unfortunately, the bigger issue was how the situation was handled. The hostess, Taylor, was rude, dismissive, and pretentious. Her attitude immediately made us feel unwelcome and, frankly, matched the overall atmosphere we experienced upon entering the restaurant. We chose to cancel our reservation rather than spend our money somewhere we were treated that way and went to Sizemore's instead. The difference could not have been greater. The staff was welcoming and kind, the atmosphere was comfortable, and the food was excellent. A nice restaurant should be about more than the menu and the price point--hospitality matters. Based on our experience, I would recommend saving your money and choosing a restaurant where every guest is welcomed and treated with basic courtesy and respect. read more
