When I was visiting Jacksonville, I saw 13 Gypsies on Google Maps and just knew I had to check it out. The restaurant is small and cozy with limited seating. There is some bar seating, but reservations are definitely recommended. The menu is unique and delicious. I wasn't drinking that night, but I noticed they have an interesting wine menu as well. Service was very friendly. I loved our server's excitement for the menu. I highly recommend 13 Gypsies and will be returning whenever I'm in Jacksonville.

    Table for five please

I made reservations for me and my friends, five was the max allowed, with 8 PM as the only available time slot for a party this size. We arrived a little early and our table was ready. We sat in front of the The Last Supper portrait. My friends and I felt so comfortable and the music and decor helped set a groovy vibe. We ordered almost everything on the menu. We started off with the tomato and cucumber salad with couscous, citronette, dill whipped feta and pickled red onion. This dish was tasty, healthy and the veggies were fresh. We had the peasant bread, which was soft yet crisp on the crust. Then came the house made chorizo so properly prepared with honey, sauteed pear and warm spiced dates. You must eat the chorizo with a little taste of everything on the plate! The combo is splendid! Then my favorite dish of the night arrived, butter braised cabbage made with brown butter and house kimchi paste. The cabbage was carefully cooked to perfection! The lovely taste was hard to describe because I've never tasted anything like it. This is a must try! Next up were the chicken meatballs topped with candied jalapenos and chili-ginger agrodolce (sweet and sour Italian sauce). So juicy and deliscious! Then we were served Roman style gnocchi made with beef, mushroom stock and utter pecorino (sheep's milk cheese). This cheesy rich dish was surprising. When I saw it I didn't know what to expect. But goodness is what I got! The house made ricotta was light and fluffy like a cloud. Loved this dish! It was made with smoked honey and served with grilled peasant bread. Then I tasted the octopus, which was deliscious! Only three of the five at the table would try it. The other two don't know what they were missing lol! We tasted all three desserts, cheesecake, tres leches and a peasant bread pudding. All were delectable, but the tres leches was the best. The best I've EVER had! Our server Andrew was friendly and helped all of us decide on our drink of choice. He kept our waters full and checked on us regularly. I am already thinking about making another reservation. There were some items I didn't get to try and others I wish to have again and again and again!

13 Gypsies is a small, cool tapas and small plates shop located in the Riverside area of Jacksonville, conveniently located next to one of my favorite bike shops, Zen Cog. They have been under my "to-try" list for quite some time now and that moment finally came. TIP: Book ahead and make reservations before you come here or else you will get turned down. Now let's talk about food. Their menu is pretty simple. I came here with a group of 4 and we ordered the following to try. My thoughts... - Spanish Pork Mojo Skewers (2/5): Good flavors, blends well with the dip provided. But it felt like I was eating more pork fat than meat - Cucumber & Tomato Salad (5/5): A well rounded, delicious dish. Makes you wanna lick the plate clean. - Mongolian Beef (5/5): Delicious all around. It was still delicious even if not dipped in the sauce provided - Curry Cauliflower (2/5): Three cauliflower pieces for $14. Thaaaat's it!?!?! Enough said. Nice curry flavor though. - Butter Braised Cabbage (2/5): I don't mind eating cabbage but I wasn't feeling this one. It was meh Rissoto (4/5): It tasted like a risotto version of mac n cheese, and I like mac n cheese Service (5/5): Tiffany was our server and she was very attentive. In summary, I do not mind eating tapas or small plates, but if I am going to pay the tapas/small plates prices, the quality & taste better back it up. That didn't happen for me and my palate. I wish I had a better experience. I wanted to love it but all in all, it was just okay to me.

Not your typical Tapas menu, but we loved it and enjoyed everything we had. Very good service, but it is a very small restaurant and things are just a tad rushed. We tried many plates and our waiter did a nice job of coursing them out. Hard to say if we had a favorite, but I would recommend the Roman Gnocchi, Croquettes and it is worth ordering the bread to enjoy all the delicious sauces in many of the dishes. Our waiter even brought us an extra dish to enjoy on the house. Keep in mind that they serve beer and wine only, no mixed cocktails. Come with an open mind, be adventurous and enjoy!

13 Gypsies is a super small tapas style restaurant and a must try! Reservations are definitely needed. The last time I went there were three of us and we ordered 11 items- we all felt like it was one too many and were full by the time the last one arrived. I always recommend their risotto- consistently good! I would get a mix from their menu- they have it separated into hot, cold, and skewers and there are great offerings in each category.

13 Gypsies has been on my list to visit. Read so many good reviews from my fellow Yelpers so I couldn't wait to try them. As expected, the place is small and very intimate. I think 5-6 tables only with a bar. Having browsed their menu several times, I knew what I wanted to try. Theirs is tapas style and we were a group of 4, so we shared everything. We ordered Cucumber Tomato Salad, Spanish Pork Mojo Skewers, Cauliflower in Curry Sauce, Butter Braised Cabbage, Risotto and Mongolian Beef. We each got a skewer of the pork and the beef, and they are definitively the dish that stood out. Savory and delicious! However, the rest of the dishes were just okay, I was expecting an explosion of flavors and they were just underwhelming. Taste for me is subjective, so I would still encourage everyone to visit this place.

Omg the food here is to die for! I finally got a reservation and I regret not going sooner! The service was great and feels personally since there's only 6 tables and hardly anyone new comes in while you're dinning. The room is so cute and decorated with Catholic icons, which we loved! We had the bread, potatoes, Mongolian beef, risotto and squid! I can't wait to go back! 10/10 recommend for a romantic dinner!

Okay.... WOOOOOWWWWW!!!!!!!! It has been over a year since I have written a review and I swear on everything I love this place forced me to write my first one of the year I am screaming ! I've known of this gem for over about a decade and never got the chance to try it until today and to say the least- I feel beyond blessed to have tried this luxurious food in my lifetime I'm genuinely speechless right now! Could not even leave the restaurant before writing this review ! Tiffany was our lovely server and the hugest kudos to chef Howard and Kevan !! The textures and flavors of everything could not have been more on point and now I have a genuine understanding of how this tiny place on this busy corner of Jacksonville Florida has attained its loyal customers for the past 17 years ! We literally licked each plate clean!! I told them I will be like a stray cat outside in the back from now on

Upon arriving in downtown Jacksonville it was obvious Mi Amante was ready for a nice dinner. I had my hopes up to try the well reviewed 13 Gypsies. It was too late for reservations; I'd have to rely on my charm and good looks. Turns out neither of those were going to work. Seems they had a large party coming in and there wouldn't be space for us. I moved onto plan b...begging and pity. Explained that it was our first night in town and we'd take anything including outside if they would reconsider. BINGO! We took a small table outside and were introduced to our server Tiffany. Tiffany was very helpful to a couple of newbies. She told us two people would probably chow down up to 7 plates. Apparently we'll need to up our game; we tapped out after 5. There was nothing ordered that we didn't enjoy. We ordered a bottle of Calazul Albarino, light and refreshing and would be a great palate cleanser in between dishes. Not necessarily the in correct order we feasted on cured meats and peasant bread, mushroom sevilla (OMG this was so good we would've licked the bowl clean if it wasn't our first visit and didn't want to look like heathens), house made chorizo with sauteed pear, pork meatballs, and a "roman" style gnocchi (completely different interpretation than we've ever had but Tiffany told us what to expect...and they were the best pillow like cheesy goodness). We tried to get pictures of everything but that gnocchi was so damn good we forgot. Thank you 13 Gypsies for accommodating us on our first evening. We will definitely return before leaving town and bring friends. More people at the table should mean a larger amount of plates we can try!

Everything I expected and more. I love 13 Gypsies, the Decor, the service, and the food - all so interesting and top-notch. I dined solo on a Saturday evening and tried so many delicious dishes that were expertly prepared and had amazing service and recommendations to top it off. I will continue to return and although it's nice to share tapas with a companion it's almost better to dine alone and take home leftovers. And the Sangria is delicious!

My boyfriend has talked about this restaurant since we started dating and his Mom loves it as well. She was in town so we visited and got there right when they opened at 5. We didn't have any reservations, but they were able to seat us and were very nice. I think they have about 7 or 8 tables in the entire space. The interior decor is perfection and the music was absolutely on point. The service was great and our server answered all of our questions. It is a tapas place so I recommend everyone ordering 2 dishes and then you get more variety. The ambience and service are great. The food for me was good, but some things just weren't for me. We ordered the peasant bread, From the Chamber, Mongolian beef skewers, mojo skewers, gnudi, roasted crimini mushrooms, and 2 of the tomato and cucumber salads. The bread and Mongolian beef skewers were my favorite. I can't remember what it was - Either the dry cured meat or the gnudi, but something tasted really strongly of fennel or something adjacent and overwhelmed my palate a bit. My boyfriend and his Mom both loved the salad. He also loved the Cabernet Sauvignon - I think they normally have a blackberry one on the menu, but it wasn't available that night so hopefully in the future! I want to go back soon for a date night and try a few more things from the menu and update my review. For the price, I would like some more texture on some of the plates and some varied flavors, but I greatly appreciate the simplicity. Once again, the service was amazing and I will definitely go back.

The waiter helped with any questions we had. He was not on top of his game because he had to ask for us to repeat our order. We ordered Brussel Sprouts, Octopus, Mushrooms, and Gnocchi Pasta. The restaurant is decorated as if we are in an older restaurant.

My wife had the Breakfast Burrito, which I could've called from before we even walked in. If a place had a breakfast burrito, she's gonna order it. This one was great. There was a lot of good flavor packed into that tortilla. She especially liked the chili sauce on top. It had a little kick that elevated the whole thing. Drinks not filled, food brought out a different points when we asked for it to be brought together etc. One of the guests requested their sauce on the side and it came right on top of her cold steak. We had to constantly grab anyone who worked there to get help and get served or drink refills. Very atypical of Prospect. I'm reviewing again to be constructive. I still love Prospect and I need them to be the excellent experience they have always been. I'm truly hoping this was a one off afternoon.

We did place a few orders of roti but it was eaten so quickly it was hard to get pictures. The service was amazing and our waitress did a great job accommodating our large party. I even was happy about the valet parking because it was slightly rainy and packed. The portions were large enough for several of us to take food home. Overall we had a great experience and I will be back for more Roti.

It's the perfect casual stop to cool off, relax, and refuel. The food never misses. The roti canai is a must every time, and the bao buns are all amazing but the chicken and pork belly are my favorites. The beef noodles are packed with flavor, and the cucumber salad is the perfect fresh, crunchy balance to everything else. For drinks, the Buddha beers always hit the spot, and the adult "Capri Sun" mojito is dangerously refreshing. Pro tip: Ask for a side of chili oil it takes everything up a notch. Great food, great drinks, and a laid-back vibe that keeps us coming back. Perfect post-beach stop.

I opted to do Tapas and he ordered a salad that they added 7 shrimp to, which wasn't on the menu. My tapas was also shrimp done in a Mozambique style with coconut milk. Delicious! Also I had the cold octopus tapas which was spicy. It came with 4 spears of Belgian endive to use to scoop it up. I could have used at least 2 more because I ended up eating it straight and it was a bit spicy for me. Service was stellar and the restaurant was clean and nicely decorated. A solid choice for tapas!

However when we came in hostess gave us altitude that we brought a child. Maybe she should have read a reservation better. She kept telling us that we should put a child on a reservation (which we did), but anyways, there were plenty of empty tables in the restaurant, so not sure what a big deal was. Our server was pretty decent, he explained the menu and was relatively attentive. We ordered many different appetizers and a big seafood paella. I also had non alcoholic sangria which was great. Grilled calamari were amazing, we also loved the shrimp, salad and burrata. Seafood paella was amazing as well. Ambience is more traditional with older people mostly around. They also have extensive outdoor seating area. So everything was good except the hostess.
