My family and I had dinner tonight at Cedar and Olive Mediterranean in Jacksonville and it was absolutely incredible. Every single dish we ordered was outstanding. The lentil soup was rich and comforting, and the falafel was perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. For our mains we had the steak, chicken, and beef kafta, and all three were cooked perfectly and packed with flavor. You can truly taste the freshness and quality in everything they serve. It's rare to find a place where every dish at the table is this good. If you're in Jacksonville, you absolutely have to try this place. We were visiting from Buffalo, NY and our friends brought us here for dinner. What a great choice! From the moment we walked in, the aroma of the food was incredible. The menu had so many great options. I chose the kabobs with tabbouleh, and it was absolutely delicious. Everything was so flavorful. The hummus, the dip, the crepes. Our food came out quickly, and the staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. We were even treated to vegetarian rolls, a smoothie sample, and an amazing dessert, which was such a thoughtful touch. The place has some seats inside, it is more like a take out experience, but we were there to also check out the holiday lights at the beach so it was a sit-in experience for us. We ordered an app, the falafel and little fixins, which were good, but a bit overdone. The salad was great. And both items were shared. We each also had an entree, I think we both had the fish! It was cooked properly but had a little too much char in the flavor. I would order it again...but hopefully it wouldn't be quite as "charred". Otherwise, super friendly service! This was my 2nd visit to Cedar & Olive and will not be my last! The restaurant is bright, airy and clean. The owner was very friendly and asked for any suggestions or recommendations. Service was great too. I had the Shish kabob bowl with rice and veggies. I also ordered chicken as I didn't know the kabob comes with steak. Both meats had nice spices and were grilled perfectly! The homemade hummus was delicious and the pita bread was authentic! My son had the Tawook bowl with chicken and rice. He said it was delicious. My son also had a Yerba Mate which is an herbal drink with caffeine. He went with the blueberry flavor found the taste very good. This place has delicious homemade authentic middle eastern food! The wife and I came here for lunch. First off looking at the menu, the food is pricey but do not allow that to deter you. As the old adage goes, "you get what you paid for" and trust me your taste buds will thank you. We ordered the Tawook Platter and Kafta Kabob Platter. I enjoyed every last bite. The food was made fresh. Tasted fresh. Their Toum (garlic sauce) is enough for me to want to come back. It was so good. From what I was told, the Toum is made fresh in-house. Service wise, we had to wait a little longer for the food as they were made fresh to order but trust me it was worth the wait. What a great dining experience from the moment you walk in to the time you finish. Clean soft area decor with a very nice menu that explains the food for those not familiar with Lebanese food. Service was friendly and is only surpassed by the freshness of the dishes. The flavors pop with middle eastern flavors. The Tawook was juicy, flavorful and tender and was accompanied by a creamy garlic sauce that compliments the flavor of the chicken along with a serving of Pita bread that was thin and appeared home made. I ordered the Shish Kebab and the meal tasted good, the meat was tender, the portions were way too small for $35. I think there was around 4 oz of meat and I left still feeling pretty hungry. Just what Jax Beach needed! A yummy fast casual Mediterranean vibe with yummy food. Wednesday night at 7 was packed! But luckily they had a couple seats at their window area. Food came out in stages. Wow!! What a great new addition to Jax beach. Everything (except for the fries) are homemade. The tabbouleh, made to order, is the best I've ever had. The baklava, made like little cigars, are easy to pick up and filled with delicious pistachios and honey. The falafel was light and flavorful. Food was great. Got the grilled chicken, which usually I am afraid to get in case it's bland. Not here. The chicken was super hot and fresh off the grill. Juicy and flavorful. It came with a garlic sauce, which seemed similar to Toum. Not too garlicky. The Fattoush salad was really good and a lot of food and flavors. We also tried the baba ghanouj, and it was delicious! They seem pretty new, so they're still working out some kinks. One suggestion would be to put out a free water dispenser so people can have free tap water. (1928 Cuban bistro has a good setup to check out if anyone who works there reads this.) They did have drinks for purchase in a cooler and gave us a bottle of water for free when we asked for water. But I'm not sure how sustainable this would be for them to continue doing. Any hiccups or bumps were easy to overlook because the people working there are so nice and friendly. They gave us free pita refills. Always came by to make sure our food was out and to our liking. Someone was stuffing the grape leaves by hand. The cook told us he makes the garlic spread every morning. It seems like a family operation, and they showed us so much hospitality, I had to rush to write a review when I got home. My wife and I drove all the way from World Golf Village just to try Cedar & Olive and I can tell you that it did not disappoint! Not only was the food absolutely incredible, but so was the ambience and the hospitality. I got the shish kabob platter with an extra skewer of shish tawook (chicken) and my wife got the shish tawook platter. We both got a small fattoush salad along with garlic Toum and hummus. After that first bite, I really thought everything else was going to be just as good, especially based on all the great reviews. Unfortunately, the falafel sandwich was dry and basically had no flavor. Same with the fish sandwich -- it just didn't have any seasoning or taste. Pretty disappointing considering how fantastic the soup was. To their credit, the owners were very kind and offered to bring me something else. I declined, but I did let them know the soup was amazing. I appreciated their willingness to make it right, but the food overall didn't match the expectations set by the reviews.
