The 3 quotes were similar in cost but OT Bay Builder suggested the best design that also made the permit application faster because we didn't have to remove a load-bearing wall. A rep came out to do a site visit and discuss our project so that he could provide an estimate. He was courteous and took detailed notes as well as measurements. He said he would try could get back to me in 3 days. I waited over a week, texted him to check in. No response. Waited another week, called and left a message. Then called the main office after another day or two, spoke to a receptionist who said he was working on it. Waited another few days and sent an email to the main address on their website. That was a week ago, still no response. Not even a "we are very sorry but we're slammed right now and won't be able to get back to you until _____". Zero communications from anyone at this company. If they're too busy, that would have been great to know. But to convey that message by ghosting a new client to me says something about their culture around customer care. read more

Effort: Idan and team do work hard and try their best to meet expectations and explain why things are needed or not. Recommendations: Idan was a great reference for where to research, find, and get any needed materials **Areas of Note**: Upfront Costs and Changes: it is important for anyone starting a project to have a highly detailed plan to communicate to the contractors. Scope creep can add to the cost of a renovation, so ensure early alignment to avoid change orders. Inspections: for permitted renovations, inspections from the city are necessary and also cost money. Understand that inspectors will want any renovated areas (e.g. an updated kitchen sink and stove) to meet CURRENT code. Even though it's a small space, it looks and feels like a luxury spa. From the chic tile, matte black finishes and custom storage cabinet, our designer Christina went above and beyond. We had her pick out a floating vanity herself, as we had no idea what would look good and we absolutely love what she chose! The crew that worked on everything else was equally talented. The plumbing, electrical, tiling and finishing work was done with precision and expertise. Our rainfall shower and sprayers are amazing! The tile is absolute perfection. We ran into some water damage from years of neglect from previous owners; this was no problem for OT Bay Builders. They replaced the damaged framing and stucco in a few days, like it never happened. Apparently you think using the wrong materials, poor craftsmanship, not showing up when you are contractually supposed to, not having materials to do a job with, threatening a customer, and the customer having to hire another electrician to redo your electrician's "work" because it didn't meet code requirements is what a contractor is supposed to do. So glad you've clarified how you still do business by stating that you think this is respectful and how a job is supposed to get done. Hopefully no one else will trust you like I did. Yes, it was 2 years ago, but after the slats you guys put on the top of the pergola started falling off this Summer and need replacing, I thought I might finally put in that review- out of pure frustration with still having to fix your bad work. Seeing other recent reviewers experiencing similar craftsmanship and work ethic, and that I'm still having to pay to clean up your mess, it looks like OT Bay Builders still operates the same way. Instead of putting your foot down and insisting your PM did the right things, take a step back and change how you do things. Your previous PM threatening me, then promising everything, then not doing what he said he'd do in writing was the most abusive relationship I'd ever been in. I needed OT Bay Builders gone, fast. I realized that I should never be paying for this, so I ended the relationship. I paid you, but there was no end walkthrough and I didn't sign your paperwork. The week the electrical was done, I told your finance person that we had to redo the electrical because it was dangerous, already didn't work, and it wasn't done to code. O.T. Bay Builders redid our roof for us this Fall. My roof was very old and beginning to break down, and since the weather was beginning to change, I was very eager to have an expedited start on the work to avoid potential rain damage. Tom far exceeded my personal expectations by assuring me that since we were under contract, if any rain did get through my old roof before he could fix it, he would repair any problems it caused at no expense to me. It made me glad to have chosen his services. The workers he sent were polite and efficient. It seems that re-roofing can quite a mess around a home's perimeter, mostly dust and debris, but at the end of each day his team cleaned to the point that there was no real indication that work was being done on the site. The team added new metal to the roof edge, which they were happy to paint for us to match our fascia boards. Some of our fascia boards needed to be replaced, and when they replaced them they were also happy screw in new hooks for holiday lights like we have underneath the boards around our house. All in all, they were very considerate and professional. After they finished our city inspector came to sign off on the project and notified us that they had done an excellent job.
