Went to Oscar's auto repair to get an estimate regarding the replacement of a brake light switch for my 1995 Chevy Silverado truck. After examining my vehicle, I was told that in order to have that switch replaced, it would be necessary to have the steering column removed so they could access this switch and it would cost approximately $700.00. I took my vehicle to another shop where they replaced my switch without removing the steering column and was charged only $185.00. BEWARE! read more

Great job!!! I was in a bad situation and Oscar's replaced my alternator on a moments notice and gave me the ability to get back on the road and not risk driving over the pass in the winter with snow falling and risk getting stuck up there. At 2pm, I realized I had an alternator issue. By 4pm, I contacted Oscar's and they said they could do it (after trying 3-4 other places in Redmond that couldn't). I am from SC passing through with a 32 ft travel trailer and thought I had a fuel filter leak on my 02 7.3 Diesel. Turns out it was bad valve seals in front of filter. Would give a 0 if I could. They gave me an ETA for a tow: 30min Waited 2hrs. Called them up. And wouldn't ya know it? They "forgot" about me and took a job in Portland. Makes way more money, so I guess I don't blame them. A call would have been nice. At least be honest. Not wasting half a day would have been paramount to the stress and irritation they caused. Never again. If this is how they conduct business, just stay in Portland. Don't worry about coming back to Redmond. We don't need that type of dishonesty here. Called another tow company. They had me done in 45min. **the following day, Byron called me a half a dozen times to berate my insurance and tried to blame them for his lack of ability to read emails. Byron is the kind of honest and caring person you always hope to meet. I was driving through Redmond, OR. The "check engine" had come on about 15 minutes earlier and then my car starting stalling and cut out. I got towed to Oscar's and met Byron. Byron started right away with the diagnostic tool to check my "check-engine" light. The resulting code was pretty vague and Byron kept looking and then we took the car out for a test drive as it would now turn on. After an hour of checking things out, he thought he should check the throttle body and found a piece of nitrile glove in there. He cleaned up the throttle, the check engine light was now out and all was good. After an hour of work, he didn't ask for a penny and just asked me to check in the next day to be sure all was fine. In fact, he had to call me the next day, because I was still driving. I can't say enough about how much I appreciated his care for my car when I was trying to get somewhere and how he wouldn't take any money for looking over my car. I am on an RV trip and over 1000 miles away from home. I had several warning lights came on my dashboard and didn't know what to do to rectify it. I tried a few simple things with parts from O'Reilly's myself. But when it comes to auto electric I am not qualified! Because of Covid, there is a severe labor shortage in Central Oregon as well as many other parts of the United States. I contacted three GMC dealers within 100 miles north, south, and east of Redmond. None of them could even look at my vehicle for over a week! To be fair, the independent shops were booked up that far as well. Oscars was willing to slip me in after a couple of days wait to diagnose my problem. Car started acting weird after a day went by , then today it broke down after I got gas in it. I pulled it to the side of the road, waited and called Farmers Insurance roadside assistance. I woke up one morning and our car wouldn't start, and my wife was out of town with our second car so I was stranded. Oscar's tow truck came and towed our car and got it all fixed before I had to fly out for the holidays. Morning, just passing through, fill up the tank, engine turns over, won't run. Start calling, two weeks, three weeks, no mechanics. Call Oscar's, " Maybe can take a look around five-thirty". They've got a wrecker but I had triple A drop me off. Hung around all day watching the hustle/bustle, entertaining, busy. Quitting time, I'm getting antsy, Oscar jumps into the wrecker loads me up and into the shop. Does a few checks, fuel pump's shot. Calls around, finds an OEM. And then; He's got a night shift! Oscar points down the street at a motel, says "come back 10am". I do, car's ready to go, I pay a reasonable price and try to tip, won't take it, heads off to look at a van. Oscar & Byron wanted to make sure that a) I was happy overall with the work, and b) wanted to offer some money back since an estimate wasn't given. I was very happy with the refund and felt it was a fair offer. I was happy to re-iterate that I thought the overall service was great, and that I should be more responsible about getting an estimate. With this level of dedication to customer satisfaction I will definitely be returning for future work. Original Review: I will preface this by saying that not only have I heard great reviews, when I was picked up at Oscar's after dropping my car off, my Lyft driver had nothing but good things to say. AND I would add that they were able to see me on short notice and in general were very accommodating and nice. My ONE gripe is the bill I received for the services. The break caliper on my front left tire had come loose due to two bolts coming out from when I had replaced my own wheel bearing hub. When I dropped it off in the afternoon they looked at it and said it shouldn't take more than an hour to fix the caliper. Unfortunately I couldn't stick around and would get it early the next morning. Called to check in the next morning just to make sure it was ready, and was told that the break pads for that wheel really should be replaced to. I said fine. Fast forward to later that second day when I go and pick it up. I was expecting a bill for a few hundred dollars (inflation/labor), maybe around $300. The work involved 1 wheel. The caliper fix (adding two bolts) shouldn't take more than 20 minutes, and the break pads (they would have had to remove the wheel and take apart the caliper they just fixed) shouldn't take more than 30. I would add that they did take some time to look at the wheel bearing hub that I had replaced, as it seemed to be loose. The bill - $415 Parts billed for - FL side caliper hardware - 52.99 (2 bolts?! The original caliper is still there) - No mention of break pads, but a 4pad set runs around 40, they would have used 2. No mention of any other costs, including labor. I will summarize with this. This is another expensive lesson. ALWAYS request a written estimate and understand if you're being billed a flat rate or an hourly labor rate, including a completion date before work is started. Once I have some free time I will take the wheel off and check out if new break pads were actually put in, and see if the "FL side caliper hardware" was anything more than 2 new bolts. I'll follow up when I do. It's always hard to find a good mechanic and I was excited to use Oscar's after reading reviews, hearing from my Lyft driver, and interacting with them prior to the work. They did the job I was looking for, and were able to do it on short notice, ALL GREAT THINGS. However, call me naive, but I feel I got ripped off on the bill. read more

I came from Cali in my truck. 7 hour drive. Truck wheel fell off. Oscars towed my truck at 11:30 pm and kept in touch with me during g towing and repair. It was my responsibility to indicate special parking requirements for the car being towed, but unfortunately, I did not. Which meant, Oscar had to off load the vehicle and reload it again. I was visiting Central Oregon with a friend when a chronic issue I'd been tolerating with my vehicle became a major problem.
