I DO NOT TRUST THIS MECHANIC Darryl Henry had my vehicle for nearly four months and failed to deliver on the job I paid him for. I brought it to him in August 2024 with one simple request: fix the check engine light and make the car roadworthy so I could sell it. Instead, I spent over $2,100 on unnecessary repairs, endured months of delays, and was left in the exact same place I started--with a still-broken vehicle. Darryl repeatedly assured me that the repairs he recommended would resolve the issues, but every time I got the car back, the check engine light came right back on. He charged me for additional fixes that didn't need to be made and ultimately failed to complete the original repair I requested. Despite knowing I was on a tight timeline, he made no effort to expedite the process, leaving me to chase him constantly for updates while enduring incredible inconvenience and frustration. In the end, I was left with nothing but wasted time and money. Darryl's lack of follow-through, honesty, and professionalism caused me months of stress, and I've completely lost trust in him. I do not trust this mechanic, and I have no respect for his integrity. If you're looking for a mechanic who is honest and reliable, look elsewhere. Honest , ethical , and solid work . My check engine light came on and I noticed that my fuel economy took a dive. The shop diagnosed the issue thoroughly and had the EGR Valve and Leak Detection pump replaced quickly . The car runs great now. As a full time single mom having a safe and dependable car is critical . To have my car repaired properly , promptly and honestly priced is vital . In the day and age where corporations gobble up businesses and that down home ethics seems to go wayside to profit.. Darryl helped a family travelling from Washington to Arizona whose mini-van broke down in Bend get back on the road in short order. He recognized that the family was in distress and made his team available almost immediately. He quickly determined that both the battery and the starter were completely shot and the family was unlikely to make it to Phoenix with the vehicle in that condition. Darryl quickly located and his team installed the parts. More importantly, he took the time to make sure the vehicle was road worthy, checking tire pressure and replacing a burned out taillight and license plate lamp. Within a couple of hours or so the family was back on the road, grateful for the rapid service and fair pricing! read more

You know, I have waited quite some time to post this as I was hoping the people of Darryl Henry's Auto would make good on their work....unfortunately they have not and instead have turned to ignoring and avoidance. I am the son of a mechanic so writing this does not feel good but it needs to be shared to give a little perspective on the ethics of the people at Darryl Henry's Auto. I brought my old diesel pick-up into Darryl's shop in spring '20 after being assured on the phone that they were familiar and comfortable working with old moody diesels. I brought the truck in for having cold start issues as well as throttle surges and dying once it was running. After some waiting I received a call from Darryl stating that the truck needed new fuel tanks as the old ones were a mess and the engine wasn't getting quality fuel...a few days later I received another call stating the tanks weren't the issue it was the lines...then the pump...then the glow plugs....etc....Darryl eventually threw most of the parts department at this truck. More or less, he was shooting in the dark. He either had no idea what he was doing or didn't care because I was footing the bill. Either way, ethically wrong and not how honest business should be done. After a few months of Darryl having the truck and my spending of around $4000, I finally was able to pick the truck up aaaannnnnd....it died twice on the way home. Thus began a few month battle of Darryl avoiding my calls as well as the calls of my father (a fellow mechanic himself), trying to get him to make things right. What Darryl knew he had going for him was a) I am a firefighter and was leaving the area for the rest of the fire season and b) my father was out of state which pretty much meant if Darryl just didn't answer our calls then we wouldn't be a problem. Once I had the time, I brought (towed) the truck into a diesel tech that was recommended to me. After a day of diagnosing the truck he very adamantly said this truck was not worth the investment. The motor had compression issues and needed to be replaced, the suspension was a mess, the rear brakes locked up and the glow plugs weren't receiving the correct voltage (something Darryl said he had fixed). All of that boils down to this....any honest mechanic would've been able to do a quick diagnostic on the truck and known whether the customer would benefit from moving forward or not. Darryl saw dollar signs instead. Long story short, pass on bringing your vehicle to Darryl Henry as there's other mechanics in town. There may be good reviews on here but if my experience says anything it's that the folks at Darryl Henry's Auto are lacking when it comes to the ethics department of their business. They more or less stole $4000 from me during a global pandemic when work was short and savings were shorter. Thanks for that Darryl, hope you needed that money more than me. And just by looking at your other 1-star reviews...I'm sure your very polite secretary will leave a lovely response somehow pointing the finger at me as if I was the one who charged someone for a service I didn't provide. DO NOT COME HERE!!! Incompetent, Poor Customer Service, and Rude! I chose this auto repair based on the other high reviews. BIG MISTAKE. I had one the most stressful and horrific experiences imaginable that resulted in calling the police because they wouldn't let me leave without paying for fixing the WRONG PART! My boyfriend thought my brake issue might be due to the master cylinder and encouraged me to get it diagnosed by a professional. I talked to Daryl Henry on the phone before coming in who encouraged me to bring it in to get properly diagnosed. Daryl Henry and the mechanic test drove the car ahead of time and told me with confidence that the master cylinder was indeed the issue. Unfortunately, I fell prey to trusting that he did his due diligence before coming to this conclusion because this fix didn't do anything for my brakes! The pedal still went all the way to the floor before braking! SUMMARY: My brake issue was not from the master cylinder. Darryl Henry MISDIAGNOSED the problem and wanted to charge me over $300 for fixing the wrong part. Toyota Dealership verified that the problem was NOT the master cylinder but my front right CALIPER and a new brake job caused from all the wear. What was so frustrating is that Darryl never told me my brakes were fixed. He said they were "better than before." I didn't come to get a partial brake job - I came to have my brakes fixed! He didn't give me any other options other than to PAY for fixing the WRONG PART or putting the same old part back in! He didn't take me at my word or offer to continue to diagnose the problem, which left me a really tough spot - to either pay for a service that was done incorrectly and didn't fix my real problem, OR get charged for theft! What I had proposed was to leave to get another mechanic to look at it and then have them bill me if they did it correctly, but they wouldn't cooperate so I was forced to take back my keys and call Toyota dealership to ask them what I should do until the police arrived. The police officer met me and tried my brakes for himself and agreed that they didn't fix the true problem since the pedal still went all the way to the floor! Luckily, I was smart enough to test drive my car BEFORE I paid, otherwise I'd be out not just my brakes but also my pocketbook! The police officer felt so bad for me for getting taken advantage of by this auto repair that he kindly offered to drive me home for the night 30 miles away until they could take their dang part out and Uber my way back on my own dime to pick my car back up! Not to mention, the fact that Darryl Henry sent me back to the streets with an unfixed brake system after previously saying that my brakes were unsafe is downright unethical. Who knows whether this misdiagnosis could've resulted in a fatal crash! Do not make the mistake of coming to Darryl Henry's Auto Repair! Save yourself the nightmare and a half and choose a car repair where they won't be treat you like a criminal for expecting your car to actually get fixed! Update: just test drove my car after having Toyota fix my brakes and there was a WORLD of difference! The pedal was very sensitive and barely had to be pushed down before it would brake. Again, this just shows me how completely OFF Darryl and his team were! Such a shame that their company didn't even attempt to satisfy me as a customer. I took my son's car here based on the reviews. I was a little skeptical with so many 5 star reviews as some businesses 'stack the deck' if you will. I decided my optimism should prevail, after all, it was just for an oil change and check out why a check engine light was on...how bad can it be. I was informed that my son's car definitely needed a new head gasket due to codes and steam coming from spark plugs, $2400 worth of work! I was surprised to hear this since the car actually drove perfectly and was having no issues. Darryl advised me absolutely not to drive the vehicle... I took the car to another mechanic and was told the check engine light was on due to a bad sensor that needed to be replaced. In total with an oil change, my repair bill was $500, much less that the $2400 quoted with Darryl Henry. The second mechanic said there was no steam coming from spark plugs and that the vehicle was absolutely fine to be driven even without replacing the sensor. I thought about asking for my $95 diagnostic fee back due to the fact that Daryl Henry's diagnostic was completely wrong but I thought it was better for me to publish my experience so that others will be spared. read more

My check engine light came on when I was visiting Bend from CA and the error code pertained to the Catalytic Converter. I saw great reviews for Darryl Henry's Auto Repair and went to the shop in hopes they coudl take me. The sweet receptionist told me they were slammed for the week and she'd been instructed to not take any more appointments. But that they could run the diagnostic to at least give me an idea as to whether or not it was urgent. When they saw it was the Catalytic converter, and that we had a 10 hour drive back home in CA, they ordered O2 sensors for me and got me in within 2 days. They also informed me that most of the time, when a catalytic converter is going out, the fix can be made by just replacing the O2 sensors. When it is the actual Cat that goes out, the O2 sensors need to be replaced anyway, so this was a "first step" repair, to see if the problem could be fixed cheaper than replacing the whole Cat. ANYWAY. Darryl Henry called and left me detailed messages and got the work done really quickly. I really appreciated that they took me in so that I could feel safe driving back home. Turns out, he's from the Bay Area! We are moving to Bend next month, so I am really happy that I already have a trust worthy mechanic in the new neighborhood. I was referred to Darryl Henry's from family as I just moved to town recently and needed a new, reliable and honest mechanic. I called him and made an apt to ck my Honda's alarm, get an oil change and he also highly suggested new front cross arm bushings (mine were shot) and alignment. It was a spendy wade, but I knew it was necessary to maintain my 05' Honda and I did call some other mechanics in town and his price was comparable or lower to others in town. Him and his staff were very accommodating as I needed to reschedule several times due to my work schedule changing. No problem. Darryl really stands out in two important area - communication and standing behind his work. It's rare to see that in most businesses, let alone the auto repair business. Communication - you know how it drives you crazy having to make phone calls to find out when your vehicle is going to be done? Both times I had my truck in with Darryl, I was getting update calls personally from Darryl before I even thought to call myself. Work ethic - I had to bring my truck in a second time due to a part failing from the first repair visit. Darryl told me he'd be crediting me the cost of the failed part (which makes sense) but I was pleasantly surprised to see he credited me the labor cost as well. "Daddy, the car is steaming!" - words you DO NOT want to hear from your daughter on your first day of vacation. Fortunately my wife and daughter had made it back to the driveway at our Sunriver vacation home. Now what to do. I know where to eat, drink and have fun in Sunriver/Bend but I certainly didn't know where to take a car to get fixed. I looked on Yelp and researched for the shop with the most reviews and highest average star rating - logical, right? Well, Darryl Henry's Auto Repair met my criteria and a simple call later, Darryl was ready to receive the car - a 2006 Sequoia. I had it towed (AAA only gives you 4 miles free - sigh) and started researching rental cars figuring that the repair would take a while. I got a call from Darryl an hour later and he offered up the diagnosis and fix - the radiator had split right down the middle. Double sigh. He gave me an estimate, offered to also do the timing belt and water pump (way overdue but too much given this was an unexpected expense) and said that it could be done TODAY! Yes! The first good news of the day (well, besides the bike ride and awesome weather). Sure enough, I had the car back by 5 PM (the adventure began at 9 am), no extra surprise costs and we were ready for our Elk Lake adventure the next day (also recommended). Thank you Darryl for your professionalism and SPEED! I hope that our paths don't cross again but I will certainly keep you in mind the next time I need car service in Bend. You should too! read more

We came into Bend on a vacation, and I noticed during the trip that I was getting bad shaking in the front end whenever I braked. I called Darryl Henry's Auto Repair and spoke to Darryl, who efficiently took down some information about the car and (as it turned out) correctly diagnosed the problem over the phone. He set me up with a quick appointment, and gave me a cost estimate, based on his phone guess at the problem. He assured me his technicians would check to make sure of his problem diagnosis, and test drive it afterward to verify the fix. We dropped it off, took a Lyft over to the Old Mill District for the morning, and came back to pick up the car in the afternoon. All fixed, no problem! Great job, and we're very pleased.
