Osaka served me absolute garbage today. I am quite certain that if I had eaten it, I would have gotten sick. I used to live nearby and Osaka was known to be the crème de la crème in the Mill Creek area. They got so popular that the owner had to sell because she felt like she was getting carpal tunnel. I know that because I found her in her new restaurant a couple towns over and she told me. She also said that they sold the recipes to the new owner. Granted this was about 3-4 years ago that I talked to her, so I'm not sure if these are still those same "new" owners or someone else, but figured how different could it be? Suffice it to say that this was nothing like the Osaka I used to know. When I walked in, it was completely empty, and I stood there for several minutes until someone finally came from the back room and asked for my order. I ordered chicken teriyaki which was $13.99 - which may be on the high side for lunch time but still reasonable. I wanted to upgrade to brown rice but they charged a whopping $3.50 so I stuck with white rice. She then asked me to pay cash to avoid a surcharge for using a card. One lunch teriyaki and a can of soda plus tip was $20 because I paid cash. As soon as I sat down, I heard the unmistakable beeping of a microwave. Oh, I thought... "I hope that's not for me"... But sure enough within seconds, my food came out. It wasn't even minutes, it was seconds - I hadn't even gotten my jacket off yet. Osaka used to serve dine-in orders on largest ceramic white plates, but this came in a plastic containers just like take out. I opened it and I IMMEDIATELY smelled the off putting smell of microwaved chicken. It smelled putrid and had no discernible char on it. Normally, I'm someone who will talk to the restaurant before blasting them on Yelp, especially if it's a small family owned restaurant, but this was so egregious that I just walked out and here I am. I left the chicken completely untouched and on the table just like in this pic. The rice also smelled funky. I ate the salad but it was over the top watery and I wish I hadn't. I'm certain I was sold the leftovers from yesterday. I know that smell and I heard them nuke it. And as I now sit here at Thai Bistro down the street, I'm still sickened to think that they sell food in that condition to people. read more

YUM. I was in denial about this place right up until the food was brought out. I didn't think it would be that good. But it was! Portions are really big and the presentation of food is on point. I got the chicken teriyaki and it was wonderful! The chicken is fresh and cooked the right way. It has that slightly tougher outside with a soft, tender inside that is juicy and full of flavor! That's how chicken should be. They know how to do it here. The sauce is perfect too. It comes with sticky rice that you can tell is cooked the right way without shortcuts. So tasty. It also comes with a basic salad. All for just under $10. Great deal. I will be back to try the Mongolian Beef! Authentic place but not my favorite atmosphere. I give this place 4.5 stars. read more

I'm not sure if the ownership has changed or what has happened but 2 times in a row now we've been served some of the worst chicken I've ever had the unpleasant experience of eating. Both times the chicken was over-done and ancient. This last time we ordered our order was ready about 3 minutes after I ordered so they're not cooking anything fresh anymore. If you think ab out value and taste, people consider quantity for cost as 'value' and taste is subjective. If you like spicy, then spicy taste is what you consider. Is this priced well? Yes. Is the amount of food sufficient? Yes. A regular order is often split between 1 dinner serving and 1 lunch the next day...and the 2nd scoop of rice is nice! Try the 'extra meat' option. You'll be eating this for 2 dinners. So the value portion of the equation is met. Taste? I like spicy. A lot of places sell spicy teriyaki, but it's just not spicy. Their spicy sauce is a little on the thick side too, so it hangs well on every bite of nicely grill charred chicken. Have I been back? Many times. You will too. read more

My chiropractor used to be in one of these buildings in the same parking lot and I ate here quite often many years ago after appointments. I remember it being absolutely delicious then. Different owners? Rude guy behind counter thought I was stealing pop from the pop machine with my water glass. So I gave him my glass full of water as proof that it was water, so had nothing to drink with my meal. And I even tipped him $2.00 ! What a jerk. What a sign of reverse racism. The chicken teriyaki came only two mayby three minutes after sitting down, so precooked.. was soft from being pre cooked and did not have the charred crispy bits like the other places have. Tried this teriyaki place for the first time. Ordered the chicken and pork combo. I'd say overall an average experience. The quantity is pretty good so that was a plus. The quality though wasn't the best that I've had from other restaurants. Not sure what else there is to say, it wouldn't be my first choice for a place to go, but if I was close by and wanted some teriyaki, I'd probably stop by. I thoroughly enjoyed my teriyaki! It's not very often I gamble with teriyaki, but decided to with Osaka. I ordered the chicken breast teriyaki which was on special for $8.49. Normally I would find this expensive for teriyaki. My local teriyaki prices their chicken breast at $7.99 and the portion seems to be bigger than Osaka. That's the only reason I'm knocking it down a star. Overall the quality and flavor was great. I quite enjoyed it. It was a good change, and I found it to be very tasty! We ordered the spicy chicken teriyaki/tempura combo after a coarse greeting from the woman at the counter. $15 for a rather skimpy portion and we were relatively satisfied with the quality. Being that I'm a people person, I'm sticking with my 3 star rating because I really didn't feel welcome at all. I am sad to write this review. My husband discovered this place 4 years ago when we lived across the street. They had the best chicken katsu! After moving to Lynnwood, I began frequenting this place after dropping my daughter off for dance class in the evenings. I would order the sweet and sour chicken. It was soooooo good! Just perfect. The meat was cooked perfectly, the veggies in the sauce soft. I really looked forward to my Osaka dinner. The owners looked to be a Korean family. There wasn't as much on the menu, but it included homemade kimchee! Then, in came new owners who added several things to the menu. And you know what they say about having too many items on a menu...something is going to suffer. Somewhere along the way- like a year ago- I started getting chicken that was stringy and hard to chew, veggies undercooked. I know stuff happens, so it wasn't a big deal. But it happened again and I said something about it. The woman at the front counter apologized and said the next one was on them. The chicken seemed somewhat better that day. Then I went back again and same deal.. hard, stringy chicken- AGAIN. I said nothing about it until like 6 months later. I was craving it and hoping the issue with the quality would be resolved. When I called in my order, I mentioned my last visit again wasn't so great. So I arrive there and when I walked up to the counter, they had the chicken alone without the sauce. The cook came up and said since it was separate from the sauce, the sogginess problem should get resolved. I told him no, it was the chicken ITSELF and it was so stringy and tough it was hard to eat. Like it had been sitting under a heat lamp all day. That's when he revealed to me they reheat the chicken! Then he says something about the health department making them do it. I was like, huh?! Then I remembered when the old owners were there, there were always people in that kitchen cooking their butts off. And how I rarely saw one person back there making food nowdays. Makes sense- they are reheating everything! I looked down at that container of bare meat and once again, I see the rough, stringy meat. That is when I realized- these people are clueless. If they could not see the problem in front of them, they will never get better. A couple other notables were the refrigerator not being cool enough to enjoy the cold drink, and how the place wasn't busy like it used to be..other patrons must have caught on to the lack of quality. I give up! I pulled out with my Last Supper and kissed them goodbye forever. I wish I knew where that Korean family went because they really knew how to cook! I have been going here for about 10 years, always my first choice for chicken breast teriyaki. I was given 6 oz less the last time I was here, and told the order taker on the phone about it. The usual amount is between 10 to 12oz. As I opened up the order at home after discussing on the phone, the same thing happened. This is the last time I will be coming here, too bad. Okay, because the weather's going to break, I'm going to let you in on my secret (okay, one of them). BEST TERIYAKI PERIOD. How the heck can I say that? Oh, I don't know, maybe because the first time I fell into Osaka it was PACKED with Asians - specifically Japanese. Now, I speak VERY LITTLE Japanese, but I can tell when people are enjoying themselves and these Japanese people were kickin' it. They OBVIOUSLY had sought the place out. It's up towards Mill Creek - you know how many Japanese live up that way? Neither do I, but I'm betting it's not "Japantown" up there, right? Food is fresh, plentiful, quick, and very reasonable. Get the special half the time and go off the menu the rest of the time. FWIW I stay with 'Japanese' things - no 'broccoli beef' for me, just gyoza and soba and teriyaki. I tried the salmon - exquisite! Ample parking, easy to get in and out of (there's a driveway behind the Bartell Drugs if you miss the highway turn, just turn right at the light). This is our local Teriyaki place and we go here every once in a while. We have always liked the teriyaki whether it's the spicy chicken or any of the others. The service is hit and miss depending on who is working there, however. My daughter likes the gyoza but it isn't her favorite as it's usually a bit over cooked on the wrapper. I love Osaka, it's our new favorite teriyaki place since Midori changed owners. We go here at least once a week. My husband gets the beef and pork combo and I get the pork teriyaki.
