I found some other larger scarves, but still no bright or fun colors. I decided to go with a neutral color to go with more items. This review is for their mail order catalogue business. The quality of the clothing from Orvis is exceptional. I have ordered several shirts and sleepwear and have been very pleased with the fit, comfort and tailoring. The shirts are made in places like Morocco and Portugal and the fabrics are the best I've seen in casual wear. Most are 100% cotton and some are a wool or linen blend. A friend of mine who makes clothing commented how the pattern lines up on pockets and seamed areas to the body of the shirt, something one finds only in the highest grade custom made clothes. It is a detail I hadn't noticed until she pointed it out. The emphasis is on casual and lean to the outdoor type of aesthetic. You wouldn't wear these clothes to a business meeting, unless you run a ski business in Vermont. Yet for comfort I couldn't be happier. The cut is also good for guys who aren't the slim size as most every department store seems to primarily carry these days. They have a variety of lightweight and heavier weight clothes, and even carry the high end Barbour outdoor line. They have an impressive pet section too, and also contribute to the improvement and protection of the environment. The periodic sales are quite good value. I don't always find the web site to be the most user friendly and have trouble logging on. For the value this is a great place to shop especially now from the safety of your home. read more

Yesterday, I returned a dry fly belt at the Fifth Avenue store and received a gift card for the refund amount. I attempted to use the gift card to purchase two polo shirts but the card came up as invalid. I spent no less than 40 minutes on calls this morning with their customer service reps who were trying to verify the refund transaction and activate the gift card, without success! I gave them the information on the store refund receipt received including but not limited to customer ID, transaction ID, and cashier number. The two customer service reps, including a supervisor, said they needed more time to verify everything after I already spent 25 minutes on the phone answering their questions and giving them every piece of information on the refund receipt and gift card! The customer service from the Fifth Avenue store yesterday to my phone calls today was completely unsatisfactory, incompetent and horribly inefficient, not to mention a complete waste of time! It should not be challenging nor difficult to rectify a mistake made by their store. read more

Personal preference for well-made, traditional clothing over trendy department store clothes always draws me to Orvis. The clothes fit well and last longer than most other retailers' products. The store staff are very friendly and helpful, even during the holiday shopping season. Highly recommend this store. read more

Excellent, professional, courteous service. Salespeople are helpful but not obnoxiously so. Store is clean and well organized. You are free to browse without having an over eager employee following you around trying to be "helpful." Placed an order online and received a phone call hours later that the items I'd requested were ready for pickup. It's been my experience that everything about Orvis is top notch and this store is no exception. This is how every business should be run. read more

Don't trust the ratings on the Orvis website. They do NOT include unfavorable ratings and comments based on my experience. I had purchased a shirt from Orvis on-line and when I received it I found numerous quality issues in the manufacture of the shirt in China. I sent a detailed review, with a one-star rating, including pictures to back up my rating, via Orvis's on-line rating function. The rating was never posted. I cant make this up no one would believe me.  I walk into a store by a product and get told it will be shipped to and you will have it a few days.  A week goes by no product i go back to the store and the sales person says oh they were shipped on friday(it was a monday) you will have them in afew days. And the sales Person says i will email u a tracking number with in the hour.  No email ever came. I decided on Thursday to  call speak to a manager. He says they did not get shipped, they got mixed up w another person stuff.  Whatever that means.  But he assures me they will be sent that day.  Great. this store is perfect for the outdoors /camping /wilderness folks who want to dress for a hike , attire for the camp fire or want to be one with nature. kidding aside its a cool store to browse without being bothered. from clothing and gear for men , ladies , accessories and fly fishing stuff and classes which must be fun if you are into that hobby but personally the whole fishing string tuck and pull looks like to much work. i got a sweater and i got a vest which cost me almost 190 bucks combined but its a birthday gift for a dear friend so its worth it. orvis is not for everyones clothing taste but if it is then its worth a visit in person or online. read more

Worse store experience ever. I was not addressed for 15 mins. I walked around the store looking for some ed any help. I work an avenue block over. It's dangerously close and I find myself wandering in this store pretty often. They honor some of the best discounts and coupon codes and the stuff is all quality. I beat up my 9 weight Clearwater rig pretty good in Long Island and the jersey surf knowing orvis will have no issues replacing my stuff if it breaks. 25 year replacement guarantee can't be beat, just have to pay for the shipping. read more

I came in today to buy a jacket and the sales associate, Jasmine, was amazing! I told her the style I was looking for, she pulled it in 2 sizes, helped me into and out of both of them. When I bothered her for one more size she happily obliged. After purchase she cut the tags out so I could wear it out of the store, bagged the coat I came in with and sent us on our way. I was looking for a birthday gift for a friend and saw Orvis' fly-tying kit. The pop-up that appeared while looking at the item offered a 15% discount for the first item purchased with a new account. I set up an account, got the acknowledgment and then tried to purchase the item but was not able to enter the discount. Called their customer help line and was told that there was a 859 minute wait time. Today I tried to log into the Orvis account that I set up the night before but the site said my ID and password didn't exist. Opened the chat window on the site and patiently entered in my information and problem and after I had written it all out, the chat window threw me out saying that there was no one there to help me. Called customer service, left my name and number and someone called back saying that they don't honor the advertised first-time discounts for the item I wanted. My first visit to Orvis store in Manhattan today. I have been eyeing the Barbour Classic Beadnell jacket for a year and decided to visit the store instead of ordering on line. I'm glad I did because I was able to compare the Barbour Classic Beadnell and the Barbour Acorn jacket. The sales person Roberta was very helpful with explaining about the size and style of the jackets. She took the time to mention to bring the jacket back in 2 years for rewaxing, she also explained that it's a good idea to go up 1 size in the vest lining when I decide to purchase the vest. I love visiting this Orvis store, especially in December: The store looks extra festive and makes the cold weather more appealing. I stopped by recently to buy my husband a sweater, and the sales associate Helen took me around to all the sweaters in the store, telling me what each was made of and which were on sale. Between the excellent quality of the sweaters and Helen's affableness, I was in shopping heaven. This particular store is worth a visit for the customer service alone...though I doubt anyone would leave without a nice sweater or two. read more
