J. Crew at this location and others is a must for me. My daughter introduced me to this brand years ago. I have dozens of cotton T shirts in lots of colors. J. Crew is one of the only stores that sells cotton clothing. The style of clothing is varied so if you need casual or dress clothing you have a selection. One year on Columbus Day I caught a sale. I wanted to replace a pea coat I had previously owned. I purchased the pea style coat at J. Crew and got a great sale price. They do have great sales. Well then was then and now is now. I recently realized I have only worn it about five times over many years. Today I'm super excited to put it in the New York Cares Coat Drive. Someone will get a beautiful coat along with the branded J. Crew hanger and bag. I'm recommending J. Crew! read more

There are two of these in the country. Boston and NYC. I have been to both locations and I constantly find myself between both locations. I love both and the people at both locations are extremely helpful. Boston screwed me on some tailoring costs so I am a little bit bitter with them but I will continue to come to the NYC location. I bought my first big boy blazer here and I am extremely happy with it. When I am in the area I will pop in because shopping makes me happy when I am down. Jcrew offers some wonderful retail therapy to get me looking forward to a productive work week. The employees are knowledgeable of their product and recognized my coat from their fall line immediately. I have popped in here and walked out with a blazer, a shirt or two, or a pocket square and some crazy socks.on the few times I have been. Today I learned about some of their newer blazers removing the tail to give more breathing room so you do not find yourself with that sweaty lower back. My next appearance will be to buy a travel suit. It fit me almost perfectly off the rack and you can crumple it into a ball in your suitcase, pull it out, and it will be wrinkle free. Trust me I tried. Both jacket and pants come out to about $675 which is a great price for that quality of a suit if you ask me. read more

I was in the market for a new navy suit and was treated very well, they offered multiple sizes, even let me tried the suits with shoes so I'll know what it'll look like when I need to wear it. Sometime in September, I suddenly realized that I had 3 occasions in the subsequent month which required a suit. I pulled my two Brooks Brothers suits from my closet, tried them on, and realized the 35lbs that I shed in the last year had made them unwearable and unsalvageable by a tailor. I decided against another trip to Brooks Brothers for two reasons: price and fit. I didn't want to invest $1200 in a suit that I may not be able to wear for more than 6 months and, more importantly, their cuts, generally, are not flattering. I started to search online for recommendations on buying a moderately priced, OTR, modern fit suit in New York. The two options that came up were J Crew and Suit Supply. I made a trip to Suit Supply before I bought my last 2 suits and was disappointed with the service and the quality. According to Yelp reviews that I've read, I'm not alone in that experience. After some Google searches, I found out about the J Crew Ludlow Shop. For some reason, it seems like J Crew doesn't do much publicity for this store. Their own website has a vague description of the store, no listed hours, and no photos. The Yelp page is sitting at 4 reviews. I actually wondered if they were still in business. When I made my way down to the Ludlow Shop, I was impressed by the decor of the store and the stuff they stocked. The suits they have are beautiful and definitely way better than what you'd expect to find at J Crew. They have a great selection of ties and shirts to go with your new suit. I had a great experience with the salesperson that helped me, German. He was very knowledgeable about the suits and was able to find something perfect for me. One of the best things about this store is that the alterations are $20 flat. I had the sleeves shortened and the jacket let out for 20 bucks. Impressive. Overall, I was very impressed by the service and the suits. Next time I need a suit, I will definitely be going here. read more

My least favorite JCrew spot in the city. First of all it took me forever to find the space. Even with Google Maps I had to walk back and forth a few times to find the exact address. My husband was looking for a new suit to pack for an intense round of interviews. He's going to be traveling, and so needed something that would hold up well, in rotation with the suits he already owns. We initially went to a bunch of places including Bloomingdales and Suit Supply, but were pretty disappointed. The prices at Bloomies were outrageous and at Suit Supply, the quality was lacking. We decided to check out good old J Crew, and while we loved the cut of the Ludlow (hubs looks like he lost 15 pounds overnight), the Soho shop didn't have the right length of pants (he's between a 30 and a 32). We were sent to the Ludlow Shop, which was far less crowded, and had a curated, but still fun vibe. In a bit of a role reversal, I can say that the gorgeous MCM seating was very comfortable, and it was pleasant (and helpful) to see the fabrics in natural day light, with the lovely windows. The service was excellent and we were out bada bing, bada boom, so we could enjoy the rest of the day, instead of schlepping from store to store. read more

I walked into the Ludlow Shop on Hudson and was immediately greeted by Mr. David Andrew. It was a bit daunting to walk into this J. Crew boutique filled with a plethora of different suits, ties and shoes. Being a newly christened college graduate, I can easily explain the workings of a computer, but have no prior knowledge of buying a suit. David was helpful without being pompous. He was able to recommend the right color, fit and material that would best suit me (pun intended). read more

I had made an appointment online to shop for my wedding suit for our spring wedding. The week before my appointment, I received a vm that they wouldn't be open that day. I called back and spoke to a nice guy who rebooked me for the next day. I explained what I was interested in and after a bit of more small talk we ended the call. A week later, my bride, my best man and myself walked into the Ludlow shop at 11am. They'd just opened and had no other customers in the small shop. I was given a once over by two male models who weren't even born when I was ordering JCrew with a home phone before the internet. I explained that I'd made a reservation and what I was there to do. One of them gave me a smirk and said they don't carry any of their summer suits until March, waiting, as if it was a punchline to a joke. The three of us were just so shocked by their pompous attitude that the fact that no one had told me this before wasting our time by heading to the store was a distant memory. So 30 seconds after we entered the shop, we were walking out. I wouldn't recommend this location to anyone. For those of us that have worn JCrew for 20+ years and have watched it consistently go down hill, this location represents the epitome of what has gone wrong with the brand. Here at the Ludlow Shop, I experienced one the worst customer service experiences of my life. My fiance and I had planned to meet here to shop for his wedding suit. I arrived before him and planned to browse and select a few things for him to try on when he got there. I was in the store for literally 30 minutes before being acknowledged. When I first arrived in the store there were four salespeople and only two customers; the additional sales persons wandered the store not once asking me if I needed help, had been helped, or anything at all. Meanwhile, new customers were promptly greeted and asked if they'd like "water, or anything." When I finally spoke up and asked with assistance in selecting and pulling a few suits, I was met initially with silence and then "do you even know the sizes?". I assured that I did but was then told to "wait here" while he hurried off to do something. My fiance arrived soon after, was greeted and asked if he needed help, to which (after hearing my experience) replied "no" and we left. We were ready to buy and not only did they miss out on a sale that evening but my general respect for JCew and it's brand also was diminished. read more

I write reviews about restaurants and hotels all the time. This is my first review of a store. I am a huge fan of J. Crew - specifically Ludlow suits, and I often peruse the website. I was short for time, so I called the shop to see if they had the new seersucker suit in my size. Reggie was helpful, enthusiastic and held the suit for me and greeted me as I walked in. As I was about to drop $500 on a suit, I took a lot of time to try out different sizes (the perennial challenge between 36/38S). He was patient and very helpful and suggested a shirt/tie combo without being sales-y. Let me say that I never write reviews, I rarely wear suits, and I hate shopping. But after reading some of the negative reviews here, I felt I should write my own. This was the most painless shopping experience I've ever had. I was greeted by Todd who was super laid-back and super helpful. Asked me all the right questions, pointed me in the right direction, helped me decide, didn't rush me, fitted me, and didn't try to sell me anything I didn't want... and minor tailoring was set up for me they're gonna deliver it to my home. I was in and out much quicker than I expected, and under budget. Next time I'm in need of suit, this is where I'll go. No doubt. Perfect. Highly recommend. read more
