I have been to this restaurant a few times. Each time, the service has been phenomenal. I don't know if the previous times were luck because I've just been asked to wait 45 minutes at 3:30 because they have reservations that are arriving at 4. In all fairness, my party had 4 adults and 5 children, so I can understand a wait time, but the restaurant had more than half of the tables visibly empty and no other parties waiting. The greeter asked that we wait for the manager, who came to the entry where we were waiting. She did not bother to speak to us, so we waited for her to let the greeter know what to tell us. After we were told to wait 45 minutes, we left. Other than this disappointing experience, we have had no complaints here. The food is very fresh. I love being able to taste the ingredients. My favorite is the jambalaya. The setting is romantic. It's a great place for a date or adult gathering. You can be comfortable dressing casual or more dressy if you wish. Orleans is a hidden gem in downtown Perry. As soon as we pulled up, I felt like we were no longer in little Perry,GA. The exterior definitely took me back to my many visits to the bustling city of New Orleans. This restaurant stays packed, and it is hard to get a reservation if you don't book one in advance, especially on the weekend. They have a large bar off to the left when you walk in the front door. During our first visit on a Saturday night, we sat at the bar, and we were impressed with the friendly staff, handcrafted cocktails, and attentive service. The ambiance was upscale and beautifully decorated. The music was nice. The only thing missing was a live jazz band. I had the shrimp and grits, which was flavorful and spicy. The presentation was lovely, and every bite was like a party in my mouth. My husband had the Salmon Almondine, which he enjoyed. During our second visit, we dined here on a Thursday night. We were able to get an 8:45pm reservation. The amicable hostess seated us immediately. After waiting for close to 10 minutes with no one coming to the table, the manager who was making his rounds, making sure everyone was being taken care of by the wait staff, stepped in and took our drink orders. I ordered the Purple Lady like the last visit, but this time, they had to make an adjustment to the drink due to being out of one of the ingredients that's turns the drink purple. Honestly, the adjusted drink was even better than the original. My husband had an old-fashioned, it was made well. Our waiter was friendly and attentive. We ordered the Crab cakes for an appetizer. The Crab cakes were ok, decent for the price. Being from Baltimore, I'm a snob when it comes to crab cakes, so I won't be too critical. Now for my entrée I had the Salmon Almondine, and my meal was delicious. The salmon was cooked to perfection and seasoned perfectly. My greens beans were fresh cooked just right. I didn't know what an Orleans baked potato was, but I ordered it anyway. I had to remove the cream cheese and bacon, but other than that, it was a scrumptious baked potato with cheese, butter, and scallions. My husband stepped out of the box and had the Etoufee with both chicken and shrimp. He loved his entrée and said he would definitely order it again. We ordered dessert to go. Bread pudding was not on the menu, but our waiter mentioned that it was one of the desserts offered that night. We came for Happy Hour and an early dinner on Memorial Day. Walking up, we were delighted and impressed with the entry and the decor, and were pleased to see how tastefully decorated it was inside. My fiancé had the Purple Lady and I enjoyed a Sazerac, and they were both fantastic. We started out with the Okra Fries. Just gonna say, the simplicity of the recipe (cut length-wise in half and deep fried without batter, then lime juice and salt garnish) was amazing. They were served with a hot ranch dressing and this complimented the flavor perfectly. My lady had the Orleans Salad and it was light and fresh. I had the shrimp and grits. The grits were super creamy with the cream cheese and had some nice heat with the fresh minced jalapeño. The shrimp (probably 15-20 per-pound sized shrimp) were prepared perfectly with a savory chicken stock gravy. We also shared some hush puppies and were surprised to find corn inside for a unique flavor. After the success of these dishes, we knew we had to stay with our French Creole flavors and chose to have the beignets. These were made with croissant dough, which gave it a lighter and less doughy texture, and was served with both chocolate and caramel sauce. Unbelievable! All throughout the meal, our server Jessica was super sweet and patient and was excited to talk us through our menu choices. If you are in central Georgia or even within 100 miles of Perry, GA, this place is a destination. You have to check it out if you love that authentic New Orleans flavor. read more

I recommend ordering the crawfish dip as far as appetizer. Fried pickles came with remoulade and hot ranch sauce, which made them quite enjoyable. Shrimp and grits and shrimp etouffee were exceptionally flavored and served with large shrimp. The Cajun pasta was disappointing since I was expecting the sauce itself to have more flavor, pretty bland compared to Cajun pasta I've had at other restaurants. Nothing too fancy with the desserts except for the chocolate brownie/cake, it had a hint of pepper which I thoroughly enjoyed. My wife and renewed our wedding vows last night and took 50 guests to Orleans on Carroll for a reception. I can't say enough about what a great experience Dalton and his team gave us. The preparation, menu, decor and bar were beyond first class. And the food? Wow!. We worked with Dalton to come up with a menu that provided choices in appetizers and entrees. The menu, presentation and food..., I can't say enough good things about them. I hope someday I will have an opportunity to work with them again. He explained each dish we inquired about with great detail. I was reluctant to try the shrimp and grits after reading the grits included jalapeño pepper; however, Jeff, our waiter explained that the jalapeño pepper could not be detected in the grits, it merely enhanced the flavor and the was no heat added to the grits from the pepper. We ordered the crab cakes as an appetizer, they were scrumptious. If the crab cakes are ever added as an entree, I will definitely order that dish. My shrimp and grits arrived and I was pleasantly surprised at the number and size of the shrimp included in my entree. The shrimp were grilled and moderately spicy, but they were delicious. The dish came with twelve large shrimp on top of a creamy bowl of cheese grits. I believe this is the best dish of shrimp and grits I have ever tasted. I ended up taking have of my meal home for lunch the next day. My husband ordered the ribeye. It was grilled to the perfect temperature. He did not require a knife to cut the ribeye, he was able to cut it with his fork. He ordered a baked potato as a side but the restaurant did not have any available at the time so he tried the mashed potatoes. He said the mashed potatoes were good, and were real, not instant potatoes. After our meal we shared a slice of the blueberry cheesecake. It was fabulous. Our waiter told us that they recently started serving a brunch buffet on Sunday from 11:00am-2pm. The brunch buffet includes prime rib, shrimp and many other house specialties as well as homemade pastries. My family will definitely return and try the brunch on Sunday in the near future. The quantity and quality of the food was superb. You can find restaurants that are more economical, but you will sacrifice a lot, the meal will not come close to the flavor of the dishes we found at Orleans on Carroll, and I assure you, when you leave Orleans on Carroll you will not have room for another bite. Water with lemon was hard to achieve for her. Not all our appetizer came out. We sent back the shrimp and grits because it was dry. Shrimp and grits returned to the table with what looked like chicken gravy with chunks of chicken on top of everything. It did not look appetizing at all. At this point, the Jambalaya was already eaten by the time the waitress came back to the table to check on us. We sent back the shrimp and grits and asked for the check from our waitress. This is not one of those ho-hum reviews that dogs the establishment, first and foremost. Orleans is a newer kid on the block and deserves another review after the bugs are worked out, as long as it lasts that long. The atmosphere is fantastic and is reminiscent of a fine-dining establishment. Based off of the décor within, you would think the menu pricing would reflect that, which is not the case. We had made a reservation for 4 prior to the new year. We arrived 15 minutes early and were immediately seated. The host and hostess greeted each of us as we entered, so no issues whatsoever with that side of the restaurant. Our waiter was not attentive to our drinks, which ran dry several times throughout the evening, however, this was resolved when the owner or manager noticed and came over to check on us. Appetizers- We split two separate appetizers with the other couple: The 'Orleans Crawfish Dip and the Fried Green Tomatoes. The crawfish dip was very creamy and came with bread crostini's, however, there was more dip, as usual, than the crostini's could handle. The dip was mediocre at best, but still had plenty of flavor. The fried green tomatoes were FANTASTIC. They came drizzled with a remoulade-type sauce drizzled on top, as well as a corn maque choux in the middle. The corn maque choux in the middle, when placed on top of a piece of fried green tomato, melds the flavors very well; definitely my favorite item of food for the evening. Main Course- I ordered a small gumbo with my meal, along with the shrimp Etouffee. My wife ordered the salmon almondine with the brown butter sauce on the side. Our friends ordered the shrimp n grits and the fried pork sandwich with fries. The gumbo was not good...at all. My brother lived in New Orleans for approximately 10 years, so I know what good gumbo tastes like. The roux in this gumbo was not browned enough and was the color of a light camel tan color. Roux should be dark and the color of a deep mahogany. The chicken within the gumbo appeared to be shredded, and was the consistency of a Mexican-style burrito chicken at a Mexican restaurant. The flavors did not meld well and was very salty, as if Tony Chacheres was the main ingredient to construct the flavor and seasonings. The Etouffee was above average, however, on the salty and greasy side of other Etouffees that I have eaten. The gravy was the dark consistency that should have been utilized as a standard comparison color for the roux that was placed in the gumbo. Plenty of shrimp were given in the Etouffee, which was a bonus, and were cooked perfectly. My wife's Salmon Almondine was cooked perfectly and was seasoned well. The flavor was almonds and fish seasoning, so nothing special about it. The seasoned garlic beans that came with it were over-salted, but were cooked well. The dirty rice that comes with it has a weird off-flavor, and is not very good. I made the comment that Bojangles has better dirty rice than this establishment. My friend ordered the Fried Pork Sandwich. He cut off a piece of the pork for me to try, which was a mistake. The pork was thoroughly cooked after being pounded and then deep fried, however, a little Cajun seasoning would have made this sandwich go a long way. The pork did not have any flavor whatsoever. The one promising thing about this was that the pounded pork cutlet was approximately 7-8" in diameter and sat well-outside the bun that is given. The fries it came with appeared to be of frozen variety and were nothing to write home about. Some duck-fat fries would have made this sandwich option much better, along with adequately seasoning the pounded pork. Our friend's shrimp n grits were good, however, there are better ones out there at different restaurants. Again, similar to the Etouffee dish, they do not skimp on the amount of shrimp that are given or the size of the shrimp. The grits were cheesy and spicy, since they add jalapeno to them. The shrimp gravy that is used appears to the be the same gravy used in the Etouffee; again, the same color standard should have been used to match the gumbo roux to the color of the shrimp gravy and Etouffee. The good: The friendly staff, the atmosphere, décor, Fried Green Tomatoes, prices of dishes, amount of shrimp given in dishes. The average: Crawfish dip, Salmon Almondine, Garlic Beans, Etouffee. The bad: Inattentive wait staff not refilling drinks, Fried Pork Sandwich (no flavor), Fries, Dirty Rice, Gumbo. For now, wait to go there until the kinks are worked out in the near future. read more

Could be 5 star but coming from Houston and worked out of Louisiana a lot, the taste of their dishes can be improvised. Their jambalaya tastes great but just too greasy and rice not fully cooked. Gumbo's roux did not have enough impact making it taste like a porridge instead of the good old big easy style gumbo.
