Let's start with the inside, which I did like the ambiance. The waitress Joyce seemed nice but probably could have been more engaged once I returned my food and really gave no real response or concern about it. I did tell her that I didn't want a refund just that I wanted her to advise the cook that the Ahi was so tough but I doubt she did. The Ahi felt like I was eating an overcooked steak. I also noticed on my buddy's plate his asparagus was over steamed or cooked and were completely limp and the green on them was more like a light green from over cooking. The place is way over priced for no reason which I can't figure out. The food is not worth the price nor are the drinks. I ordered the smoked Old Fashion but was told they don't have their smoker???? Absolutely loved Oliver's in Perry! The martinis are next level -- the lavender martini was my absolute favorite, OMG! The ambience is so sexy -- the lighted bar, tabletop candles, and dim lighting set the perfect mood. Visiting family for the holidays and decided to have our annual couples dinner here. We will not be returning. We ordered two salmon entrees, one ribeye with mashed potatoes and asparagus, and the chicken entree. The chicken entree was the best and I would rate it 7/10. One salmon was dry and both were missing seasoning/finishing salt. The ribeye was missing finishing salt and the mashed potatoes needed butter. The lavender lemon drop was decent. Service was decent with nothing extra/over the top. In making the reservation, I didn't see a time limit but I know the standard is 2 hours. Our reservation was at 6:30pm and we finished with our dinners around 7:45pm. At 8:07pm as we wrapping up our conversation, the waitress comes to our table and says that they had a 7:30pm reservation and needed the table. 1. You couldn't have thought our reservation would be over in one hour. 2. There wasn't a party waiting to be seated on our way out. This is my second visit to OP. I was able to make reservations just a little over 2 hours in advance. The hostess & wait staff were very pleasant. The Tuesday menu caught my husband and I off just a tad but we were able to select dishes that we were satisfied with. Ambiance was quiet & very intimate just like our first visit. We've been before and the meal was decent... tonight was an abomination! App- octopus burnt to a crisp, ordered 10 oz filet medium rare...admittedly it was medium rare, but the "sear" on the outside was just more burnt like the appetizer... a la cart sides... "roasted mushrooms" and "crispy Brussels sprout". My plate was SO unappetizing... all burnt brown! The shrooms were canned and soaked in WAY too much sodium... the Brussels sprouts were burnt... and all that brown! Everything tasted the same... 4 bottles of sparkling water couldn't dilute the unpleasant aftertaste... went straight home and nearly drank the Listerine! Additionally this was our "date night" and my husband and I were sat at a 7 top... (we had reservations for 2! ) The bar was full, and walk-ins were standing over top of us drinks in hand and looming over our extra large table. One lady was nearly sitting on top of me. we offered to the hostess that we would gladly move to a 2 top that had opened up to free up SEVEN seats... but were told that wasn't necessary because those tables already had reservations soon to arrive... so our entire meal was overshadowed by a crowd hoping to find a seat sometime... Oh and the burnt brown inedible meal- $70! My husband and I travel often and eat very well at high end restaurants, Oliver Perry's is NOT the place to find fine dining. Extremely disappointed. Lovely restaurant in downtown Perry. My husband made reservations for us to dine on a Thursday evening. When we walked into this adorable quaint restaurant , we were greeted by an amicable hostess who seated us immediately. The ambiance was upscale and chic. Surprisingly, the place was crowded even though it was a stormy night. Our waitress was personable and attentive. We ordered 2 of the posted drink specials. I had the Dogwood Punch, and my husband had the Peachy Palmer. The drinks were ok, but definitely not the highlight of the night. We shared the Spicy Crab Cake appetizer, which was enough for two. It was decent, I'm a Maryland native so my standards are super high when it comes to crab cakes, but for the area, it was good. I had the Seared Scallops Entrée over risotto and with Brussel Sprouts. My meal was cooked perfectly, and the flavors blended well together. My husband had the salmon over mashed potatoes and green beans, and he also enjoyed his meal. Overall, we had a nice experience. The service was excellent, and the staff was friendly. If you are looking for an upscale restaurant for date night to celebrate an occasion or just to impress your friends, look no further. read more

I've been dying to give this place a try and it didn't disappoint. I'll start with my only complaint. There is no where to wait if you are early, so there was a couple who stood right by our table for 5 minutes waiting on their table. It was a bit awkward. Once they were seated all was well. The fresh bread is absolutely divine. We also had a salad and the crab cake to start. Both were great. The crab cake was huge and plenty big enough to share between 2-4 people. Next up we enjoyed the White Fish and the Lamb Chops along with sautéed green beans, Brussel sprouts, and mashed potatoes. I don't think we left much on our plates. I will say I typically order my steaks and lamb medium rare, but it did come out a bit more rare than I prefer. Our server agreed that it was a bit under cooked, and quickly took it back, returning with a perfect medium-rare color. While we were extremely full, we still splurged and got the crème brûlée which did not disappoint. Our server Matt was highly entertaining and on top of things the whole night. One of our favorites - The food here is amazing! Fresh, Quality upscale food right here in the middle of Perry! We love having a date-night spot or something delicious without having to drive to Macon or Atlanta. They have a small menu, and everything I've tried has been special, delicious. AND they have creme brûlée!! The shrimp and grits are always a favorite! It comes with bacon!! The Ravioli always great and the Pappardelle pasta came with Braised short rib!! Delicious! The specials are good... all though I have yet to try the beef Wellington special I saw them post about. The burger, the steaks are always fantastic! Don't miss out on ordering a side of the carrots! First time we went, we went for a celebration of paying off our House. The Food was delilcous, I ordered the Scallops with green beans, my husband had the RibEye with roasted Carrots. The service was excellant, everytime the waiter came to our table he was attentive, and took care to remove the dishes that we had finished with. It was our anniversary and we wanted to try a new place since we usually go to Props or The Pond for a nice evening out. A lot of people seem to love this place, but I guess they were luckier than us. Our server was barely friendly or attentive. She didn't seem to want us and had her arms crossed over her chest most of the time. The food was fairly good but not nearly worth the very high prices. You can get better at Props, The Pond or Orleans on Carroll for less money and the service is always good at those places. We'll stick to them from now on. read more

This place just needs to shut down the food fine dining menu and become a bar that just serves alcohol and bar snacks. It seems like it is the only thing they are passionate about. They can't get fine dining right to save their lives. Inexperienced wait staff some guy with a pony tail and earrings waited on us. He left us abandoned for 80% of our meal. For two years weve come to this lovely upscale restuarant,each time except for 2 times, we sit at the bar. We live in Alabama and do a couple shows in Perry each year. We've always enjoyed the food, the ambience, the owner, the bartenders, and the people we meet. But something went off the rails last night. We took our two workers to dinner as a thank you for their hard work and we sat at a table. It was a Saturday night, the last of 4 nights in a row the 2 of us had eaten there. For the life of me I can't figure it out but it started with a very Long wait just to get a drink. And went down Hill from there. I'm very observant of servers and their demeanor, their cleanliness, their knowledge of the menu and their personality. I was basically done wihen I saw the servers filthy dirty fingernails but I tried to overlook it. The guys ordered salads and my husband and I ordered a shrimp cocktail to share. I'd asked for more cocktail sauce which didn't come. So I asked again when Mr dirty nails came to see if we were ready to Order entrees. About 5 minutes later the owner ( who we thought had become a friend) came with a whole new shrimp Cocktail. We explained we hadn't ordered another one... just another cocktail sauce. We got a death stare as though it was our mistake, and he walked off with the shrimp cocktail AND the cocktail sauce! If I were him, I would have just set the whole thing down anyway but that didn't happen. Finally one cocktail sauce showed up after we were finished with the shrimp. Oh well! We NEVER saw the owner again. After all we've spent 4 nights in a row there and twice out of the 4 we brought 2 other people, and didn't get a thank you, a free dessert, a drink or even an accidental shrimp Cocktail. I can't count how many times we've been to Oliver Perry over the last 2 years and added a lot of $$ to their till. Oh well! But bottom line is after last night I think we'll be considering other options. I really struggled with writing this review but then I thought about my responsibility to our customers and how I can't be nice one day and ugly the next. Consistency is so essential in every line of work, especially in hospitality. There are consequences both good and bad in everything. Sadly this consequence may be us signing off Oliver Perry. It is always difficult to find a decent restaurant while traveling and away from major centers. Perry, Georgia is about 30 miles south of Macon, Georgia and somewhat rural. It's population is about 22,000. But it was a convenient and cheaper overnight stop on our way south along Rt. 75. I am so happy I searched out restaurants and found this one, about 1 to 1.5 miles off the interstate in the small Perry town center. I am a "foodie". I enjoy good restaurants and good food. My wife knows that I will pick apart dishes and say the chef should have done this or that with different ingredients or cooking preparations. We sat at the bar and quickly received refreshing drinks. I can't explain why they were so good, one was just a Tito's and tonic, and the other a gin & tonic, but the bartender made them quickly, in tall glasses and they were perfect. Next, we ordered the crab cake which was huge, lightly seared on the outside, a generous amount of crab inside, accompanied by nicely-diced and prepared sun-dried tomato, corn and onion. Just the right amount of spice added. Someplace. Still not sure. My wife then had a huge slab of exquisite salmon atop some mashed potatoes accompanied by asparagus. Mind you, this was about the fourth time she has had restaurant salmon in the previous week or two. She adored her plate! I went with the Bolognese Pappardelle that included short rib in the wonderful red sauce sticking nicely to the fresh pasta. Wow. One of the first times I've been to a restaurant where we just enjoyed everything and had absolutely no critiques. I wish there was a website which pointed out great hidden places like this restaurant to stop in while traveling along a route. We'll be back! My wife's main course, a large piece of salmon served on a bed of mashed potatoes with asparagus, was exquisite, and she raved about it. She had ordered salmon several times in the previous week or two at different restaurants, but this one was by far the best. I opted for the Bolognese Pappardelle, which was a delicious mix of short rib and fresh pasta in a rich red sauce. Overall, we were thoroughly impressed with the quality of the food and the service. We enjoyed everything and had no critiques, which is a rare occurrence for us. I only wish there was a website that could help travelers find hidden dining treasures like this one. My friend and his Fiance along with my wife and myself came Oliver's in Perry based on recommendations. My wife and I got here about 40 minutes early so we decided to go to the bar and get drinks while we waited on the rest of our party to get here. Our party was all here by 7:45 (15 minutes prior to our reservation) and they checked in and accompanied us at the bar. Well by 8:20 we still had not been seated and we were offered the option to eat at the bar. We chose to proceeded to it that due to the fact the table we were supposed to be at had still not gotten up. So we put our appetizer and main orders in at 8:30. At 9:30 we still had not received our orders and only received one of our two appetizers. We were told that we could get bread with our appetizers but never received any. At this point we had all ordered a combined $200ish worth of alcoholic beverages and were highly upset that only 1 of the two appetizers had arrived. They kept sending out the bartender to deliver us all the bad news. Finally we asked for a manager and right before she came to the table our dinner orders finally came out. It was an absolutely terrible experience due to the fact we had waited so long to receive what we had ordered. I will likely never come here again and give my business to other restaurants in Macon vs here. I've never had a bad experience at Downtown grill or any other high end restaurant in middle Georgia. Now to the worst experience we have had in all the years we have gone to restaurants in Perry, GA. We have been a repeat customer to Oliver's Perry. We had 4 reservations because they could not handle a large party. Someone in the party got there before me and checked in for my reservation at 6:30. So no table for me. All others were seated. Which caused one table for 6 to become 8 with a person sitting on a chair in the walkway. And one person leaving. Then the owner and hostess just stared at the table I was sitting at the whole time. They cancelled my reservation at 6:53 so they never made an attempt to seat us as we reserved. They were on their cell phones and the hostess was eating her dinner. Of course the food was really bad and over priced. No seasoning on some of the entrees and sides. The only positive part was the waitress. read more

I have been to Oliver Perry's a few times and recently This place has gone up extremely in price. I've eaten Kevin Rathbun's in Atlanta , fresco Italiano, Natalia's, and downtown Grill in Macon that are cheaper and provide way better customer service. It's $122 for two filet mignon's with soft drinks with tip I paid over $140. Customer service was awful. We sat with no refills on our drinks for majority of our meal I guess as a punishment for us not ordering alcohol since we don't drink, The hostess stand was ran by what appeared to be 2 scared high schoolers that never worked in food service before I would ask him for help and they would just run around looking for the waiter when it would've just been easier for them to just pour me a glass of water. The pitcher was next to them. the owner was not there tonight. normally the man with the white cowboy hat is walking around the restaurant and tonight he wasn't there. The brussels sprouts I had tonight were probably the worst I've ever had here what I think happened was they rushed them out and didn't cook the sausage down enough to transfer the sausage flavor to the brussels sprouts. I'm sorry but I am a regular at downtown Grill my wife and I can go in there with appetizers entree and desserts both ordering steak for around $90 with a much better atmosphere and a better trained wait staff. Your restaurants too small to be profitable so you over compensate with the sale of alcohol. I get it. I'm sorry please reimagine this place because it does have potential. We truly wanted to like everything about this place, because it came highly recommended by a close friend. Unfortunately, our first experience/impression is far from perfect. My first red flag was that our server was the bartender, which was strange because there was only two other guests, because it had just opened, and there were several other servers standing around waiting for guests. Our server, the bartender, did not know the menu, or the Oliver Special (the 40 ounce tomahawk, which my husband ordered). Once guests started sitting at the bar, as I suspected, it didn't take long for our server to become dismissive of our presence. Our appetizer (salmon dip, which I did enjoy), took way too long (25 minutes), and other guests who had come in afterwards, were getting their appetizers before us. We placed our entree orders about 10 minutes before getting our appetizer, and waited another 45 minutes to actually get it. Our server was very aware of our displeasure, yet, he offered no apologies for being kept waiting that long. My husband ordered his steak 'medium,' and it was undercooked, so clearly we weren't waiting for the steak. Our food was lukewarm, and our roasted carrots and green beans were cold. After asking for our check, our server then apologized for our wait...hahaha! Our check was over $160, but we've had better service for a $16 meal.
