I've been to Original Tommy's many times, especially the original L.A. location, and that place is always packed from open to close. So coming to the Riverside location was a completely different experience. On a Saturday afternoon, it was surprisingly empty. My wife and I dined in and only saw about two other customers the entire time. It felt unusually quiet for what should be a busy time. Food-wise, no complaints. The chili burger still hits. Messy, flavorful, and exactly what you expect when you're craving something heavy and satisfying. But the location just feels off. It doesn't seem like an area with a lot of foot traffic or the kind of crowd that usually goes for this type of greasy, late-night-style comfort food. In case it wasn't obvious, this isn't a place you go to regularly. It's pretty heavy. So I'd suggest only on occasion. My go to is the chili cheeseburger and regular fries, no drink. This place brings back so many memories. What else would you want after a night out of partying after 2am during the early 2000's? We used to always hang out at Tommy's back in my hometown and now every time we visit so-cal we gotta get our chili cheese burger fix and bring back some chili to Arizona for later. The food was and is always on point. Quick and clean service as expected. I mean it's like an art the way the burgers are always crafted fresh and the chili is unlike any other. I have yet to find a place like this out in Arizona. So glad to visit each and every time. It's a messy delight with classic buns and cheese. I always go full-on with the chili items, I recommend a chili burger and chili fries! You can't go wrong, I'm serious. The patties are a bit smaller these days, but what isn't? Tommy's blows In-n-out "out" of the water, it's a hot take but I will die on this hill. The fries are crispy, the meat is tasty, it's a good time. Service is speedy and you don't have to wait all day for a burger. Riverside's Tommy's is very relaxed and a great place to hang with family and friends. This is the nearest location to me so I try to visit as often as I can! I would say this location is on-par with the LA area franchises. The staff is calm and friendly. Tommy's has a drive-thru, simple menu, and plenty of tables, booths etc. for a quick or "slow-paced" bite. Chili Cheese Fries- I ordered these well done and they were fried perfect. These chili cheese fries were HOOKED UP! They were busting out of the box! A huge portion and everything tasted great! Couldn't ask for a better order of chili cheese fries! Compliments to the chef! Breakfast Burrito- I had never had one of these from Tommy's before, so I took a flyer on it. Turned out, that it was DELICIOUS! Huge, heavy burrito filled with thin eggs, sausage patties, hash browns, melted cheese and chili. It was so delicious, and surprisingly, not that messy. I ate the whole thing clean without it falling apart. Once again, compliments to the chef! This was a great last stop meal on my drive back to AZ. The guy working today was an ass....... We said allergy to onions please no onions. We didn't see no onions on the receipt so we kindly made sure to let him know. He then with an attitude said oh you don't want onions ok. We get home and there's a ton of onion on the burger. Obviously he hates his job. We have eaten there 2 other times with no issues. I've been eating at Tommy's most of my life (a LONG time). I can't get anything like it in the desert where I now live, so I have driven and hour and a half to this, the closest, location. I believe this is my fourth visit to this location, and I have to say, not all Tommy's are created equal. I ate at another location several years ago and literally threw it away. Mission Grove i the exact opposite, the best iteration of this franchise I have tried. The food is fantastic, made-to-order hot. Nice, clean presentation. And of course the taste is simply the best. Greatly adding to the experience is the restaurant and staff. All of the employees are exceptionally nice and friendly--and accommodating. Always with a smile, never annoyed or looking like they wish they were someone else. You can tell they like their job and making people happy by serving them great food in the nicest way possible. And the cleanliness is off the chart. The restaurant is spotless, and when an employee is not busy, they are cleaning, on both sides of the counter. My wife is not a big chili person, but she never complains about going to the Mission Grove Tommy's because of the friendliness and the cleanliness, not necessarily a hallmark of similar restaurants. Food is 100% consistent as well, which is another huge positive--I know that I will not be disappointed, making the long drive totally worth it. Stopped for a bite to eat, hoping that this time would be better then the last two visits. Unfortunately it was not the case. I should not have to ask for fresh hot fries, not refried- dropped twice.. fries cook so quick cmon. Also the chili.. stir the pot!!! It tastes dry and so plain. These are things that can be changed easily with good training/management. I am gonna have to write this location off for awhile, hard to find a good Tommy's now a days.
