Friday, July 3, 2026, we loved this place. We visit my wife's daughter, husband and our three-year-old granddaughter as much as we can from South Carolina. We love taking our granddaughter to this restaurant. She loves the Childs portion of French toast, the food is always fresh hot and delicious. The wait staff is very nice, if you can get "April", you'll be very welcomed with nice hospitality. We definitely recommend this restaurant for breakfast. It has become our favorite go to place when we are in Detroit. If you only read the one star reviews, they are from at least 2-4 years ago, I think that the restaurant has made some changes because we have not had any issues. read more

I have been coming here since I was a kid, there is not one thing on the menu you can go wrong with honestly. They are consistent with everything they do. Great staff also! read more

Original Pancake House - Benedict with potato pancakes (homemade apples sauce) - Breakfast & Brunch Near Me - Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan

I absolutely love this place for breakfast. Their pancakes are amazing. I always get the batter to go as well, so I can make them at home. Every thing I've tried has been delicious. However, I am stuck on their pigs in a blanket, eggs and grits at the moment. The service has always been nice and friendly. The inside is a little cramped if you're not in a separate booth area, but everyone is always so friendly so it's no big deal. I will definitely go back again and again. read more

First, bring a light wrap, cool inside, but not freezing. Nice padded benches to sit if You have to wait for a table. It is a popular place, so if you are here during peak hours, be prepared for a wait. We were greeted immediately and luckily got a table right away because we came at 11:00 AM, an in between time. Clean tables and well lit seating area. Nice menu full of unique offerings, like Dutch baby pancakes (Big German and small German), potatoe pancakes with applesauce and sour cream, crepes with cherries soaked in wine, plus more traditional fare like omelettes, pancakes, waffles and more. Coffee was pretty good too, served with cream in a little pitcher, a nice touch. Great service, good food, a solid choice for breakfast or brunch. read more

Original Pancake House has by far the best side I've ever heard of when you order an omelet: instead of boring old toast, you get pancakes. These pancakes are magical...the buckwheat gives every bite a nutty and slightly sweet character. So why not just order pancakes? You could do that, and I guarantee you'll love them. But...yeah, the omelets are also magical. They whip the eggs to make them fluffy, which makes the omelet seem larger and somehow light at the same time. I love the spinach omelet with cheddar, but what really makes it sing is the creamy sherry mushroom sauce. I don't mind admitting that I went mmm mmm mmm with every bite. Order an extra side of sauce...you'll want to dip everything (except the pancakes) in it. They also do an excellent scrambled eggs and bacon, which my wife ordered. Service was solid: we never had an empty coffee mug, and the food arrived reasonably quickly despite how busy it was. This location was always busy years ago, and it still is, which is a testament to its excellence. We're going to need to find an excuse to visit Grosse Pointe Woods more often. read more

I have been coming to Pancake House for over 20 years and this is truly a staple in GP. The quality ingredients, friendly staff, and warming, home-like atmosphere, including their insanely delicious hot cocoa, brings back the childhood nostalgia every time! The cherry Kujafa crepes are to-die for, with a side of bacon and hash-browns! Weekends are busy, but it's worth the wait. Sunday breakfast is always better at Pancake House! read more

Awful. Horrible. Food was fantastic as was the service. Restaurant was clean. You would think that this would warrant a five-star review. Unfortunately it does not. With my visit today to the pancake House in grosse pointe, I got there about 8:00 in the morning. I was meeting a friend there. Unbeknownst to us there were patrons that were dressed highly inappropriately. When I say highly inappropriately I mean nudity. We experienced seeing thongs on grown adults through mesh as well as netting tops that wholely exposed women's breasts. This was on a Sunday morning, prior to church, with children seated all around. My question is why would the pancake house even seat people that were not dressed? Shameful. read more

This restaurant has been here forever and hasn't changed much but is clean and inviting. The server was prompt and friendly and took our order right away. I had the blueberry waffle with bacon and my wife had pancakes with scrambled eggs and bacon. The food was delicious. Only drawback is the cost of this meal was $50.00. Seems steep for a breakfast but the overall experience did not disappoint. read more

Food is good, I've been coming here since I was a kid and I get to enjoy the restaurant with my children. The taste and quality is the same except for one dish??? The Big Apple no longer comes with cinnamon ice cream at the Grosse Pointe location only and the price is the same as other locations who offer the ice cream. By the way whipped cream will run you $1.50. read more

The food was as good as ever. I started eating here probably 30 years ago. They still use real butter, real maple syrup (which they don't charge extra for, like at the Dally Jam, I am still miffed about that $1.79 up charge for ONE side pancake and not telling me). The Original Pancake House still has the best coffee too and fresh squeezed orange juice. I ordered the spinach omelette with Gouda cheese. A side of pancakes and fresh squeezed orange juice. It was amazing! I love this place. Over the years I have had to occasionally wait for a table. Believe me it is definitely worth the wait. Sometimes it can be a little noisy in here. So don't expect a quiet meal. Enjoy whatever you order because it is all good. read more

Ordered take out. Food was just ok. Sausage was very dry. Buttermilk pancakes were just ok. Order was ready in fifteen minutes.

I ordered the traditional breakfast with pancakes. It was a very standard breakfast with nothing that particularly stood out in terms of flavor or presentation. The pancakes and sides were satisfactory, but overall, the meal was fairly ordinary. read more

Original Pancakes House Food: AMAZING! The Pancakes were served hot with nice pieces of butter. They were light fluffy and delicious . The Bacon Lover's comes with a mountain of bacon. The cheesy eggs are just to wash down all that bacon. The Santa Fe omelette was huge and it comes with a short stack of those pancakes previously mentioned. Service: Our server was amazing, we had a group of six (wouldn't recommend bigger). Everyone's food came to the table hot and correct to order. Waite staff was so friendly. Ambiance: Old country kitchen is the vide. Really clean and orderly. read more

Fight the crowds...wait in line...deal with the parking...and just go to the Pancake House!! It's crowded and the tables are too close. I do not care. The pancakes are so good!! The Pumpkin Pancakes are what dreams are made of in fall. No matter how crowded it is...the coffee is hot and the service is always great. My favorite place for crepes, too, besides the pancakes!! Just a great place. read more

This is thee absolute best place for pancakes. It's literally thee only place I eat pancakes from! Never been? Lemme give you the run down! Parking lot will fill fast okay, there's parking on both sides The earlier the better or there WILL be a wait and it will be a nice one! This is a small spot! Booths along wall and tables in the middle. There's also carry out options of course. Imo this location carry out is the best setup compared to the others I always get the bacon lovers special, you get like 50 pieces lol it's THEE best bacon you have ever had! You can order pancakes or toast. The pancakes are so good! Sometimes u can just smell the baking powder in them. I've also had a peach crepe or 2! They're good but make sure to ask for cinnamon because they come with nothing! Syrup is good as well! They have retail options for you to take pancake mix or syrup home with you. Now no it doesn't taste the same, but it's still good!!! Orange juice has pulp FYI! Only open until 3 pm I believe read more

This restaurant is older than me (and I'm old, haha) but it's still one of the best breakfast places on the east side. Went on a Friday morning, and we were seated promptly. Our server was attentive and excellent - my coffee cup was never less than half-full. I love the atmosphere and decor here, too. I only wish that the fireplace we were sitting next to was on, because it was a cold, snowy morning and the draft from the entrance door was the only minor annoyance we experienced while there. A fire would have made the ambience perfectly warm and cozy. The food is the star here, though. Everything was excellent! This is the only place where the thick-sliced bacon isn't like eating a piece of beef jerky - it was crispy, delicious perfection. I loved the Dutch Baby - again, perfectly prepared. My son loved his breakfast as well, and as I sampled the excellent potato pancakes on his plate, I made a mental note to return for a platter of those crispy delights in the near future - with a side of bacon :) You can't go wrong here, unless to come on a busy weekend morning when the line is out the door. read more

Service was great, super busy but almost no wait at all. Strawberry crepe was amazing, spinach crepe was loaded with soooooooo much butter it was kinda gross. I sopped up all the butter and it was better but not amazing. Apple pancake thing was HUGE and delish. Orange juice was fresh squeezed which you don't see much. This place you def just need to know what to order; last but not least the value was unmatched. read more

Definitely be prepared for a little of a wait if you go on a weekend - but it's so worth it! Food was delicious and yummy. Hot chocolate is a must!!!! Usually go to the Birmingham location, this is my first time at the restaurant in Grosse Pointe. I've been going all my life for the star of the show, the big apple! This place is a MUST STOP breakfast spot. The inside is full of cool homestyle ambiance. From the warm wood colors and classic vintage machines. This place feels like a step back in time in the best way possible. Now to the most important part, the food. The breakfast food is far and above the best I've had. My go to here is one of their one of a kind baked Edd white omelettes. They have several kinds but my favorite has become the vegetarian with cheddar and Swiss cheese folded in. It has broccoli, tomato, onion and green pepper. You also get a half order of their insanely good fluffy pancakes. I usually go here for a treat day and get fresh whipped cream and blueberry compote. The service is always friendly and upbeat. Can't wait till I get to come back. read more

The entire experience at this location was fantastic! I love a restaurant with dedicated parking, because I'm old and I don't wanna be thinking about an expiring parking meter a mile away. Our waiter was so nice and attentive. I brought my daughter and she got her classic chocolate chip pancakes. They were exquisite! Fluffy enough while being extremely light. It came with some sausages and those were good too. I ordered the Santa Fe omelette, and added green peppers and spinach. It came with pepper jack cheese and jalapeños. It was so good. I would definitely recommend it. It comes with a side of salsa. I got some cholula as well, and the jalapeño & poblano one was a perfect compliment to the eggs. I loved everything about this place and look forward to coming back! read more

Food was good! Although we about died when he waitress used her fingers to take a piece of bacon from my plate, and move it to my cousins....she thought nothing of it. Wow! She offered to bring another plate of bacon, but did not. Also, when she served two eggs over easy with diced ham, I said it should be three eggs. She said since COVID that side of menu is only really 2 eggs, not 3. Things to know while eating here. I had the Eggs Michael. As previously reviewed, it was okay but lacked some originality. The mushroom sauce was basically hollandaise with two mushrooms. Not what I was expecting. The thing that will keep me from returning is the fact that they have NO soda service of ANY kind. Not Pepsi, not Coke, Fago, NOTHING! And so you are left with water if you don't drink regular coffee. You cannot even get a cappuccino! How can a restaurant be so cheap as to not serve Coke products? read more

The original Pancake house, I've been eating here for over 20 years, just not this location. I started out on W Charleston in 1998 in Las Vegas however that location burned down. This location I have eaten at several times, and I try to get in whenever I'm in the Detroit area. There is off street parking, some spots are metered and some are not. This location gets busy, so choose your eat time wisely. Today it was not terribly crowded, and I was seated right away. I didn't have to look at the menu as I always have the apple pancake with ice cream, see the photo. The apple pancake is a delicious baked treat covered in apples and cinnamon and ooey gooey goodness. It takes a little longer to cook, but it's worth the wait. The pancake arrived hot from the oven and was as delicious as I remember. I have a lot of good memories surrounding this pancake over the years, so it's always Nice to eat and reminisce in my head . The waitress was prompt and courteous and generous with her coffee refills. Overall, I love The Original Pancake house, and I will continue to frequent it until it is no longer in operation. read more
