We thought they were going to have an omelette station, but the amateur already made for us. They did have some nice fruit options as well. We had a limited, but satisfactory breakfast spread. There was a decent spread for lunch as well. Chicken, veggies, rice, potato and kale and quinoa salad too. The reception was a little bit more food options. They provided the food for the weekly buskers course over 8 weeks. The breakfast omelet, fresh fruit, shrimp cocktail, grilled veggies and chicken were all good.

Everything was absolutely delicious, piping hot and even the veggies were still perfectly crunchy. We had the Chicken Kristina (sundried tomato and basil cream sauce), Palomino pasta (creamy marinara), Bourbon-Maple meatballs, Herb Roasted Redskins, and the Seasonal Vegetable Medley (also salad, dressing and rolls). They bring more than enough food, and we were very lucky and had leftovers, so we got to eat very well for a few days after the wedding. Thanks to everyone at Kristina's Catering! :)

We selected The Moveable Feast to cater my daughter's Bat Mitzvah in the midst of a global…read morepandemic, and they did an extraordinary job. Why did we choose The Moveable Feast? Well, because our congregation had a small list of approved caterers, and my daughter wanted one thing for the big celebration: a chocolate fountain. As luck would have it, The Moveable Feast has a chocolate fountain front and center on its website, so they were the obvious choice. The only other thing the Bat Mitzvah Girl wanted was bagels and cream cheese, which is her favorite food and pretty much impossible to mess up. Especially when the caterer agrees to source the bagels from Zingerman's Bakehouse. But one needs more for a luncheon than just bagels, cream cheese, and a chocolate fountain. That is where Misty Rose entered the picture. She got what we were going for and helped to round out the rest of the menu. I was told we had to get the whitefish as it was a signature dish of the company, and that was a great call. The pastrami spiced smoked salmon was tasty too. Having grilled vegetables was a fantastic idea as well. If I were to have TMF cater another event I might skip the red pepper hummus, the beet and quinoa salad, and the frittata. I make all of these things at home on the regular, and not to brag, but mine are better. However, those each served a role in the buffet, which on the whole was well received. Where The Moveable Feast shined brightest was its staff. They were extraordinary! Misty for both her flexibility and her patience in dealing with a father who was planning an event at the earliest stages of Omicron. Misty also directed me to A1 Rentals and helped to come up with several floor plans to make a 20' x 40' tent feel like a celebratory space. Plus the event staff were simply heroic, setting up the tent while I was at the ceremony and having everything ready by the time our guests arrived. Everyone who braved traveling to Michigan in December amidst a growing pandemic had a great time. The bartender roaming around pushing mimosas certainly helped. As did the tent heaters, which TMF helped to get back online when one wasn't working. They called up the rental company and made sure A1 brought over a new one. Plus the TMF crew even helped to spread out some straw when the lawn got sloppy thanks to the unexpected ice storm. If you've read down this far, you might be asking yourself, "So why only four stars?" Well, if you recall, the critical components of this event were a chocolate fountain, bagels, and cream cheese. The chocolate fountain was everything the guest of honor had hoped for... and maybe more. But somehow, the caterer forgot to bring the cream cheese. And a bagel without cream cheese is like a hug without the squeeze. I know that's not actually how the line goes. Still... it's close. My personal belief is that a business is best defined by what happens when something goes wrong. In this case, their first offer was to simply not charge me for the food they didn't bring. That was not terribly satisfying. Ultimately, the resolution was a sum that was roughly equivalent to the mimosas which helped make our adult guests happy despite the omission. I appreciated the gesture, but would have preferred an outcome that did not feel as transactional. You know, like a tray of sweets, or an "I'm sorry" cake. I know I'm weird about this, but money feels kinda dirty. Although at some point it's best to just take the offer and move on. Which is exactly what I did. Would I work with The Moveable Feast again? Absolutely! Would I recommend them to anyone who asks? You bet. Would they work with me again? I certainly hope so. We had a tremendous amount of leftovers, which included a few pounds of smoked salmon and multiple pints of whitefish. We were even able to salvage some of the ambrosial nectar from the chocolate fountain. More importantly, thanks to TMF we were able to pull off a successful event in the face of some abysmal conditions. I mean... on top of everything a last minute ice storm? And despite being down a person, they did it all with a smile. Bravo!

When you walk in, you are welcomed by the staff and traditional Polish decor. We were shown to a table and asked if we preferred a booth, which I did, so they cleaned off the one that recently became available. This space has a family style feel to it. Everything on the menu looked so good, it was hard to choose, so I ended up getting the Polish Trio as an appetizer. They have it as an entree but it's the same food with a choice of salad. The trio included potato pancakes, 2 different pierogies (potato and sweet cheese) and Polish sausage. They have two types of sausage and allow you to choose which one you prefer. Everything tasted excellent! It brought back memories of being in Poland - a great experience. Our server was very nice and walked my mom through their gluten free options as well. Tina and her crew catered our wedding at the Dossin Great Lakes Museum on Belle Isle in Detroit,…read moreand everybody loved it. She was friendly, thorough, thoughtful and we got a lot of positive comments about the presentation, variety and flavor of the food. This was especially impressive, since the entire menu was vegetarian, and this was not a crowd that necessarily has much patience for the wacky bride and groom's eating habits. We initially contact Golden Spice because it was on the preferred caterer list; I live in Georgia, and very much wanted a caterer who was familiar with the venue, since I wasn't there to handle the ins-and-outs myself. Her website didn't do much for me -- the photo links were broken, and I didn't find much of a trace of Golden Spice here or on other review sites -- but she was extremely prompt with communication and the first to send me a menu based on our specifications. We talked over the type of reception it would be -- relatively casual, 60-80 people, beer and wine, and most important to us, entirely vegetarian. Vegetarian food isn't a specialty for her, but she was down with trying anything, and confident we could cook up something nice. We decided to develop a menu based on stations, where people could circulate, chat, and get up to grab some food throughout the evening. What she came back with was very Detroit themed, with tons of variety and completely veggie-friendly. Still, we shopped around, talking with other caterers on the preferred list, and some who specialize in vegetarian, vegan or raw menus. Some were just as friendly, but none were as easy to get in touch with and the price difference was stark. Tina and I reworked the menu to include a vegetarian soul food station, settled on a beer-and-wine arrangement wherein we'd buy the beer and wine and they'd serve it, and she worked out linen rental with another Detroit company. She helped me to develop a rain plan, in case our outdoor ceremony venue was washed out, and was a completely calm, friendly, mom-like presence throughout the final harried weeks. I would absolutely recommend her for anything from a backyard barbecue to a wedding celebration. I'll say, too, that she was extremely friendly with everyone at the reception, but she checked back frequently to make sure my husband and I were eating, that our wine glasses were full and that we were happy. What more could we have asked for?
