Once again Fox 2 News in Detroit has done a nice job highlighting a local business that I would not have known about otherwise. I ventured out within a couple of hours of viewing to experience Le crepe on Washington Avenue in downtown Royal Oak. I was greeted upon entering while my 2-high top table was arranged. The ambiance and vibe in this small space was extremely relaxing and the staff friendly. "Thaikey" (? My spelling) was helpful when I explained that it was my first time. My server was a young lady with a tremendous smile who shared she was a student at MSU as I was wearing a pullover displaying her Alma mater that I know well from paying so much tuition over several years for my children. I started with an enjoyable vanilla cappuccino which was prepared to my liking. I did not feel rushed at all, but the service was attentive and consistent throughout my dining experience. The restaurant was quite popular on this morning and I heard others mentioning the segment on the news. It was funny, as I was texting a couple of friends (foodies) from work who were very curious to hear about my experience. I was sharing quickly upon sitting down as this was a nice treat. I reviewed the menu which had several unique choices and I decided to order The Green Goat which was a crepe containing pan-seared chicken, bacon, Granny Smith apples, and caramelized onions with goat cheese and a little arugula. The combination of flavors was delicious in every aspect! Wow! As wonderful as my main course was, the sweet crepe favorites were even tastier. I chose the Cinnamon Sweet Cheese with bananas which included a crepe containing the bananas and a house cinnamon cream cheese icing that was fantastic! Thanks again to Fox 2 News as I will gladly make the 24 minute drive to enjoy this experience again. We came here to try their menu in royal oak restaurant week. For that particular week they were running specials that we were able to try and otherwise wouldn't have been able to. The restaurant is more of a breakfast brunch place that closes by 2-3pm each day. Fortunately we faced no wait time and were seated promptly. It is not a big setting, rather small seating area and gives a very busy French street vibe. Crepes were decent, we ordered the chicken truffle and mixed Berry crepe, both were great. A couple of us had earlier decided to work from home (from the restaurant) over a Friday and they loved making it their once in a while office space while having coffee over. I came here to support a black owned business on Juneteenth. They were getting ready to close but decided to stay open for my guest and me. I'm so happy they did. The service was great and so was the food. I ordered the open face salmon crepe. It was made fresh and I felt good about eating it. The place has French inspired decor that was so cute! There are 4 different crepes. They were all pretty mediocre. The Nutella 1 was not overly sweet and paired nicely with banana. The other 2 were interesting but I would not go back for them. Nothing overly wrong, just maybe not my thing. The bacon was burned, in addition. I also got a steak salad. That was also just average. The steak some parts were not chewable. The salad was a little bit heavy and oil/dressing, even though I got a dressing on the side. The atmosphere was all right and kept clean. The bathroom was clean. This place is a fantastic little local gem! Like a spot plucked right out of Paris, Le Crepe is unassuming along the main drag in Royal Oak. I decided to go here recently to catch up with a friend over lunch, and we both wanted to try a new place. After entering through the vestibule, we were seated at a cozy bistro table with a bench against the wall and chairs on the other side. Service was attentive and the food was delicious. 2025-04-18. Le Crepe. Royal Oak, MI. It's been over 10 years since I was at Le Crepe, the last time I was here I remember the food being decent with good service. We were in the area for the Dean Lewis concert and thought this would be a great place to fuel up. There is metered street parking directly out front and an uncovered parking lot across the street ($5/day). Le Crepe is a quaint little local place that serves French inspired crepe dishes. With an array of both savory and sweet selections there something for everyone. They even have gluten free and vegan options! Today we had the Signature Ribeye Truffle, the Green Goat, the Peach Cobbler, and the Blackened Steak salad. The crepes were well prepared; thin and eggy with a buttery texture. They were a little sweeter than I'm used to, but adds to the trifecta of foods (sweet, salty, and fried.) Crepes are primarily influenced by their filling and the sweetness wasn't overbearing here. The Signature Ribeye Truffle was quite flavorful. The spinach was fresh and tender and paired nicely with the mushrooms and the steak. The steak was cooked to a little more than medium and was much tougher than I expected for ribeye. 4 stars. The Green Goat is a savory chicken crepe. This was very well prepared and all the ingredients blended together in harmony. I wouldn't have thought to mix goat cheese with chicken, but along with the mixed greens, the roasted garlic, the bacon, the caramelized onions, and the thinly sliced green apples, it actually worked. 4 stars. The Peach Cobbler came with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and a double hit of cinnamon in the form of a cinnamon cream cheese topping and cinnamon sugar. The caramelized peaches ensured the sweetness and this was enjoyed very much by my kids. 4 stars. The Blackened Steak Salad came with a beautiful spring mix of fresh greens, cherry tomatoes, red onion slivers, strawberries, and blue cheese. The steak was the same ribeye and was cooked medium. Despite the more thorough cook, this steak was also a little on the tough side, but it was also a little more tender than the steak that came with the Truffle crepe; which is surprising as it should have been from the same batch. The dressing is a house vinaigrette with flavors of garlic and shallots. As far as salads go, I'm a fan of this one. 4 stars. Overall, I think Le Crepe has some good very good dishes conceptually. The ingredients are fresh and the combinations pair really well together. I know we had the Crispies (appetizer) the last time we were here and I remember them being pretty good. We didn't get them this time around simply because I forgot about them, but will definitely get them next time I'm back. It's a great little place with a casual ambiance and would make a great venue for a get together before or after a concert, for dessert, or just to hang out with friends. If you're craving crepes for breakfast, don't expect this place to be open for you! Their hours online are posted Tuesday-Friday 11am and I got there at 11:30 to locked doors and no sign of any one inside - lights off. First off, coffee was served in a chipped mug. The waitress could not see why that was a problem, but did replace it. Now to the food, we were there during a restaurant week, so you got an entree and dessert. The entree was good, but the waitress asked at least three times if I would order dessert. I chose a savory one- the DeJa Vu, and it was delicious. I added red onion- comes with smoked salmon, Swiss cheese, asparagus and a spicy sauce! I found this restaurant on Groupon, and glad I did. I really don't think that I would have been as happy with my lunch if I were to have to pay full price. It's a quaint, small space. So small that the staff has to do a lot of the prep work out in the dining room while I was eating. Using the bar along the window front as a workspace. The food was mediocre and the help was definitely not engaged with the customer. This was my first time there and there was no conversation about the menu or the food. I have a pretty open mind about what I like, and I always make it a point to tell the staff this is my first time in and what they would recommend. At that point, if the staff tells me everything is good, I question whether or not they've even tasted anything. While most of us choose the baby greens house salad with died cherries, red onions, candied pecans, feta cheese, and house vinaigrette dressing, a few had the soup of the day broccoli cheese. The majority had the James Dean crepe - sausage, egg, potatoes, cheddar with cherry maple glaze, I had come for the Monte Cristo since I have been on the look for a good one since Claddagh Irish Pub messed up theirs by deep frying instead of fixing it like French toast. All I will say, I will be back for it again. Even after taking half my crepe and salad home, I still didn't have room for my choose of desserts - the Nutty Monkey which had bananas, Nutella, candied pecans, along with vanilla ice cream. It was a sharable size for the group. While I was able to find parking on the street which wasn't too expensive, most of my group found parking in the parking structure which is free for 2 hours before 5:00. While they have a huge choice of tea and let you bring in your own wine, if you are a pop drinker like me, you have to make do with cans. Just grabbed a carry out after a long day at work and OMG YUM!! I usually get Chicken Truffle Crepe and its always delicious.... this time I got the Ribeye Truffle and I have a new love! Almost exactly three years later to the day and time to update this review. A friend and I went here recently before a show downtown. We had purchased the Groupon which was a good deal, it allowed us to get $50 worth of food and we paid about $25 for it. We started off with the crispies with spinach and artichoke dip, I had never had those there so I wasn't sure what to expect. It was basically like cut up crepes with Parmesan and butter, and the dipping sauce was great as well. We both got the ribeye crepe with mushrooms and truffle oil. I asked for mine medium and she asked for hers medium rare, instead we got one cooked medium and one cooked medium well. Didn't matter as much to me so I took the medium well and it was still tasty. For dessert, we opted to split the chocolate eclair crepe, which was delicious. Service was much better this time too, aside from the steak mishap. My water glass was always full which was nice. Since my last review, the Ann Arbor location has since closed, so this is the only place to get crepes, at least the only one closest to me. Positives: The chocolate eclair crepe was so good. Negatives: Honestly, everything else. My boyfriend says "Le Crepe? More like Le Crap" and he's not wrong. This was the worst service I have ever received. I'll start by when we arrived. It's a small restaurant and there was a party table that took up half the restaurant, they told us 45-50 minutes, there's three couples ahead of us, no problem, we'll wait. But then three girls walk in after us and they tell them it's a less than 20 minute wait. They seat the table of three girls before any of the people who arrived first. Not okay. While me and the three other couples proceeded to wait another 20 minutes for a table. They finally seat all of us at the same time right next to each other. There was one server who took all the orders. Went to the first table, SKIPPED OURS, and took two more tables right next to us. I kid you not, this server didn't take our ordered for another 15 minutes. I finally wave her down and she takes our order. We ordered a lot of food and she asked when we wanted it and I told her, "bring out the food whenever it's ready." The tables who sat at the same time as us are eating their food and we haven't even gotten our appetizer yet. Appetizer comes out 35 minutes after ordering. The tables who sat at the same time are leaving and new tables are seating and we STILL haven't gotten our food. The new table next to us orders and our orders come out at the same time. We waited an hour and a half for our food and we had to track down the server several times because she skipped over us. The servers didn't even care. This is a piss poor excuse of an establishment.
