Another fabulous trip to QQ bakery. I always love this place. I got a ton of things for $13 total. The roasted pork bun is always a go to! One of the women who worked there said the dried pork bun is her favorite so I tried it! It's filled with a mayo and topped with shredded dried pork. It was flavorful but the roasted pork bun still remains my favorite. The curry beef pastry comes in my second spot for favorite things. Each of these buns is between 2-3$ and one will fill you up. I love their custard cups- they're not too sweet but delicious. I haven't eaten my coconut cream bun yet but it feels light and airy and I'm convinced it'll be phenomenal. The food is always fresh and quick. The people that work there are always kind. These are super authentic and similar to Chinatown in New York. Most buns/pastries are $1.80 and much larger than typical ones from a Chinese bakery. The pineapple bun, for example, is probably at least 50% larger than normal. The little bags they put each piece into are filled to the brim - I'm actually not sure how they get them in the bags without squishing anything! All of the buns we got were quite good. Pineapple Bun, Custard Bun, Danish Bun - All 3 use the same pineapple bun base. The danish bun had some kind of starchy sweet and salty paste inside. The custard bun has pretty standard custard inside. The cookie topping could be more flaky and crumbly, but all three were still good. Taro Bun - This is the same size as the pineapple bun and has a good amount of taro paste inside. Sesame Ball - Filled with a mung bean paste instead of the more common red bean paste. Ube Cake Slice - I expected it to all be artificially flavored, but there were two layers of what seems to be real ube paste. Certainly unexpected and delicious! Jasmine Milk Tea with Boba - Unlike everything else, the drinks here are quite bad. I believe they use a powdered milk tea base and as a result the drink is extremely sweet and has a chalky texture. My favorites are the Fried Pork Bun and the Peanut Snowball. They also have Asian drinks, moon cakes, Japanese cheesecake by the slice, beautiful cakes, coconut cream buns, and more. Their watermelon flurry sounded so good and refreshing after a lot of spicy Korean food today fell AA. Nothing more comforting to me than a cold fruity drink with some bobas. Their coconut covered rice mochi with PB looks good. They also have a rice coconut covered ball with red bean as well. Yummy coconut covered rice balls with red bean and PB. No watermelon, out of season for most of the fruit. I settled on the avocado smoothie, since it was fresh. The only other fruit that they had fresh for smoothies was the taro and the Durian, not a huge fan of either of these options. The avocado smoothie wasn't too sweet, nicely creamy and filling. The Boba bubbles were nice and chewy and fresh. The coconut covered rice balls with the red bean was yummy. The one with the peanut butter actually had chunks of dried peanut butter. Both of the coconut covered rice balls were nicely filled. They don't take CC at all. Only cash. Rather a big inconvenience for this small business to save a buck by not accepting CC. I had to run down the road to my bank and get some cash for this inconvenience. The bank of course was out of my way too. It's 2021 after all, all businesses should accept CC if they want more customers to come through their doors. I get that they are cheaper as far as prices, which is probably why they don't take CC. They could offer a $5 minimum for CC charges at least or make an exception here and there for newbies, maybe. The younger man there is quite friendly, warm and trusting. Doesn't look like much when you pass by, but don't sleep on it. This is an Asian bakery, or a Chinese bakery to be more specific. Fun fact, QQ is the term used to describe certain texture in Asian food--a nice chewiness that makes you want more. If you browse around the store, you will see how Chinese bakery items differ from Western bakery or even Japanese/Korean bakery. Some of the specialties include roast pork bun, pineapple crusted bun (which does not contain pineapple but has an outer crust in a criss cross design resembling a pineapple), glutinous sesame ball, mochi (filled with peanut or red bean, covered in coconut), coconut cream bun (milk bun split in the middle and filled with cream). Even the cake looks different than cakes in Western bakery. I usually like Asian bakeries' cakes better because they're mostly less sweet. The price is SO cheap, with most items costing not more than $2. The staffs are very hospitable. The items are delicious! I will always look forward to come back and try more stuffs from here read more

First off, they accept cash only!! Came here in search of a birthday cake and there were 4 options, each in 2 sizes, to choose from - taro, mango, vanilla, and mocha. Ended up with the mango and it was a very light cake, not too sweet, meticulous details on it. There is quite a bit of cream on it, but it was very light so that was nice. A medium cake was $27, which I thought was reasonable. They also gave me a happy birthday decoration and candle upon request. They have a variety of buns but didn't try those this time. The buns all share the the challah sweet-like bread as a base. The pork buns are a crowd pleaser. I love that I was able to find the rice cakes and taro filling. QQ was also one of the first cafes to sell boba (or "bubble tea" back in the day) even if it was overly sweet and not fantastic, HAHA. Overall, my experiences here have been mostly good but have had a few bad incidents. But then again, I've been coming here for 15 or so years, so it's reasonable. I've always liked the pastries and baked goods here! They're pretty cheap and good quality, so my review is for the last couple pastries I've had recently. I'm glad I was able to bring them past airport security so I can enjoy them in the DC area until I devour all of them. DRY PORK BUN - 1.80 These buns are huge! I know they're usually known as "Pork Floss". I love the soft and chewy texture of the buns. There's a good amount of pork floss and cream that makes it a mostly savory, yet sweet pastry. This is tasty to eat in the morning for breakfast. I'd highly recommend this bun! It's a classic. ROASTED PORK BUN - 1.80 Another large bun that is almost the size of my face. I had one of these and thought it was not bad. I'm not a huge fan of the roast pork filling, though. It's good, but not fantastic. I always stop here after visiting H Mart. The prices are reasonable for their pastries, never got the drink orders, but love their baked goods. Such a cute and charming Chinese bakery. I love that there is a good selection of both sweet and savory items! The cakes look so amazing and decadent! I left with a donut, some sesame balls, a couple of pork buns and a curry pastry! So good! They also have boba but I didn't get any; next time! Best Asian bakery in the area! Always stocked with affordable, delicious, and fresh baked goods. My family lives ~1 hour away, and for several years now, I've always made a point to come here after getting my hair cut at a nearby salon because it's my favorite Asian bakery (much better than the one at 168 Asian Mart, as the baked goods there never look fresh). From the outside, the bakery doesn't look like much, and I will warn you that it is a small space. However, the place is always stocked with high-quality Asian desserts, and the best part is that everything is priced to be a great value, with most of the breads (on the orange shelves) being only $1-$2 each and filling enough to be a complete meal by themselves. So Mad Heights is kinda sorta the Chinatown of SE MI. It's footprint is a carving of space between Dequindre and John R, from 14 MI to just south of 12 Mi. The Asian stores in this quadrant are sporadic but do contain all your usual suspects; there's a variety of restaurants, bakeries, and supermarkets, with the largest attraction being the 168 Food Mart in the Madison Place Plaza on John R between 13 & 14 MI Rd. There are three Chinese bakeries in the area; QQ, Tai Pan, and the one in the 168 Food Mart. Everyone has their favourite for different reasons. I've tried all three but find myself returning to QQ time over time. All three bakeries don't have the variety of baked buns I knew growing up, but QQ is my go to for two main reasons; the first is that they have something for everyone in my family, the other is that they make all their buns on site. So if you time it right, you can get some really fresh buns. The bakery is tiny, with perhaps 50 sq ft of walking space. Their baked goods are displayed on two adjacent walls opposite the entrance, with a third wall housing a counter and cake display. The remaining face is the storefront window whereby a lone table and 2 chairs are parked should you want to enjoy your food there. There are about 20 different varieties of baked buns, and more than half of them are staples to their customer base. Today, I did not find any specialty buns, but have seen some from time to time. I went with my regulars: pork cutlet sandwiches, pineapple custard buns, Ham and Onion buns, BBQ Pork buns, and sugar twist donuts. Pork Cutlet buns. With cucumber, and mayo. The bun is mildly sweet and deep fried, as is the pork cutlet. Add mayo on top of that and you have one high calorie sandwich that's not to be consumed too often. Despite the caloric intake, it's pretty tasty. 3,5 stars. BBQ Pork bun. Your typical baked BBQ Pork bun, different from the steamed ones you get at dim sum, but with the same filling. I only succumbed to this because they just brought out a tray, and they were super fresh and warm. They use a lot more sauce than I'm used to for the filling, but still no slouch. 3,5 stars. Pineapple Custard Bun. Another Chinese Bakery staple. They do a great job with the pineapple crust, but fall a little short on the filling here. Unlike the BBQ Pork, the custard was too dry and a little light on flavour. 3 stars. Ham & onion bun. Savory and sweet, this bun is a sleeper! They did an excellent job here; a little lacking with the ham, but we'll executed none the less. 4 stars. Sugar twist donut. Your typical yeast donut, deep fried and the rolled in white sugar. Nothing fancy here, but for me, it's better than those from the big chain supermarkets and donut shops. 4 stars. Everything is relative. If this place was in an area highly populated with Asians like LA or TO, it would probably rank at 2,5 rounded up to 3; however, in SE MI, QQ is a solid 3,5 star Chinese Bakery, rounded up to 4. Of course all opinions are also highly subjective and IMO, it's as good as it gets for the area, and for that I'm giving them an honorary 5 stars; my 14th designation of this rating, congratulations QQ! Probably the best Asian bakery I've been to! I went around 6-7pm and they were out of a lot of things but still had a large variety of things to pick from. I got: scallion and ham bun (by far my favorite item here!!!!!) custard bun, two peanut things that had a crazy texture, some type of super fulffy cream filled cake, almond croissant, hot dog bun, two coconut tarts that were awesome! Everything was very good but my absolute favorites were the coconut tarts and scallion bun! That sucker was amazing! As far as drinks, I got the iced black boba tea and a watermelon flurry. Any time I need to buy a cake for someone, I usually choose QQ bakery. They have a nice selection of baked goods.... but their cakes are awesome! They come out tasting just as good as it looks. Bought a Japanese cheesecake, which is basically sponge cake with some light cream cheese missed in for taste, not texture. This place also serves boba/milk tea $2.25, but uses a combo of powder and tea. My black tea with milk was much darker than I'm used to. One lady ordered the honey dew drink, which looked good.
