Love QQ! Things are always tasty and there's always a selection. Cannot beat the prices! It's sandwiched between a roast pig place, a grocery store.. And there's even a restaurant in the same little plaza. Everything is in both Chinese (am I supposed to say mandarin? Let me know) AND English, so thank you for that!!! During the week, if you get there before 11 there is usually a great selection available. I've been slowly working my way through things. I am kind of obsessed with this place. Hands down the best Asian bakery I have been to in this area. Would like to mention in advance that bubble teas and super sweet cakes/tarts and such are not really my thing, so I haven't tried them here and they will not factor into my score. What I am really into are the savory pastries and more traditional Asian-bakery style deserts (such as Pineapple Buns and the like). My hands down favorite item here is some sort of peanut roll. Not sure what it is called but it is a coconut-covered dense ball of sticky goodness stuffed with a chopped peanut concoction that will make your eyes roll back in your head. It is beyond amazing and they are large/dense enough that you can split one between two people and both still get your fill. My favorite savory item is the curry chicken pastry. These are not always available and when they are they seem to go quick. If you go to QQ and see that these are available, seize the opportunity and TRY ONE! So so good. The flaky texture and the rich seasoning in the filling combine to bring you to a state of pastry-induced nirvana. They also have a more readily-available curry beef pastry which will do in a pinch, but the curry chicken is so much better. Not that there is anything wrong with the beef. My other favorite items are the roast pork buns, ham & scallion rolls, and fried pork & cucumber sandwich thingy (no other way to describe it). I have a new love and it is the watermelon flurry (not the smoothie, the one just with fresh, yes, fresh watermelon chunks blended with ice). I am not a fan of the bubbles, personally...I can roll with the lychee jelly though. I also love it just straight up. This drink is so fresh, so tasty, it is perfection. I want one now. I love it so much I have been two days in a row, and I am highly considering a third trip today. I also really want to try the plum lime, but they were out. And as a side note, apparantly only the watermelon is made with fresh fruit, the rest are syrups and powders. If you have three dollars.....run, do not walk, and get yourself some of their tasty beverages. Pure refreshment. If you are with someone, get two...one of you will bogart this all for yourself. They are cranking out the business here.... Once you are beyond beverage nirvana....grab yourself a tray and some tongs and stock up. I recommend are the coconut tart....can you say delicious macaroon! This is found behind the counter and you must ask for it. Coconut cream bun, coconut custard bun, pork bun, curry beef pastry, and the pork pastry are all good. The pastries are behind the counter and look like a turnover of sorts. Doesn't look like much when you walk by. I honestly thought it was closed and only double backed because I saw someone walk pass me with a box filled with baked goods. The bakery is a small little hole in the wall that only accepts cash and from that description alone, you know it's going to be good. They had savory and sweet items. All classics from your pork sung buns to the cup cake bread. Oh and I need to point out that these buns are HUGE. Double the size of the stuff you get at Tous les Jours and fresher. I grabbed a pork bun and chinese sausage bao. Spent less than $5 bucks for the two buns and was full for the rest of the day. They also have a small menu of drinks. This place has been on my radar for...like...ever! Finally stopped in on Friday morning. There were so many things I wanted to try so I just started piling things up on the counter... I took pics of the things we tried, also got some bubble tea...that was my favorite thing of all!! Cannot believe I'd never had it... The service is something that needs to be commended here....I was unaware they were cash only. I panicked....the gentleman behind the counter told me to just take everything and pay for it next time. I was speechless, I am not a regular, he has never seen me...I refused...I couldn't do that....I ran to the nearest bank and got some money. When I returned there was a huge line of people ...he took my money and stated I didn't have to do that....I was quite touched by this showing of kindness... CASH ONLY. Many of my friends told me it's the best in the area, I'm not sure I agree with that statement. I got a couple of things there, the pineapple shortcake is pretty good. Some other items I got are just average level. The red bean paste stuff shortcake is just ok. A friend said his family always get the mango cake for birthdays. I was sad when I heard that Eastern Accents recently closed (in Ann Arbor) but then happy when I heard about QQ, about a 15-minute drive from me. Pros: their stuff is CHEAP. Like 80 cents to $1 for most. They have bubble tea but I was too full from dim sum at Golden Harvest to order one - I will definitely try it next time. I bought a hot dog bun for $1 and a "snow" type thing with peanut for 80 cents. Cons: Parking lot is super tiny - I guess more narrow than tiny. Be careful when backing out of parking spots! I think they had pork buns but all I saw was one that said roast pork, not bbq pork ... so I'm not entirely sure if that was the same thing. I will be back here to try some of their other things. I'd give it like 3.5/5 although to be honest I haven't had any of the things I bought yet - still stuffed from dim sum! read more

This is my favorite Chinese bakery in Michigan! They have a wonderful selection of fresh bakery items and their bubble tea is delicious!! Their fruit filled cake is one of my favorite cakes to get. I tried their regular fruit filled cake and their mango cake. The cake is overall light and fluffy and not too sweet. The mango cake is my favorite of them all and it's topped and filled with mango!! They have a chocolate version of the fruit cake which I want to try next. They have a good variety of bakery items but you have to try to get there earlier if you want a good selection. If you go towards closing, they probably won't have much left. At least you know they are made fresh!! Their steamed BBQ pork bun is amazing and if you like Manapua from Hawaii, it's just like it. The ham and cheese bun, Pu tu, cheese bread, ham & scallion, egg tart and fried pork sandwich are all delicious. They have a lot more but it's just hard to list and try all...lol. The Pu tu looks like a triangular white steamed rice cake and pairs wonderfully with hot tea. The bubble tea is great here and my favorite is the honeydew milk tea. I love the hustle bustle here especially on a Sunday afternoon. It's a family owned business with the best bakery treats and bubble tea!! I love their dollar, let me repeat, DOLLAR soft cupcake bread. They also have the best fruit cakes. The frosting is not overpoweringly sweet and is complimented by the soft cake bread and is naturally sweetened with the fresh fruits both in and outside of the cake. For sweets, drinks, and cakes, this is the place! I'm here every Sunday I come down to Madison Heights. The pastries are fresh in the mornings and delicious. My favorite is the ham/egg/mayo bun -- great for a quick breakfast or snack. The bubble teas are refreshing -- I recommend the Jasmine Green Tea, tastes milky and flowery :) Awesome! For birthdays, consider one of the Chinese cakes. They are not too sweet, fluffy, and full of fruit. The best time to visit this place is early in the morning when the pastries are freshly baked & you can still see the steam coming out of them. For a $1 per pastry, this place is a steal! I just moved to the Detroit area and am so delighted to have found this bakery. All the sweet and savory baked goods remind me of my childhood. The egg tart was perfectly flaky and crisp with a generous filling. I love "Asian" cakes because they are light and fluffy, and their icing is not as sweet. They have a decent selection of your standard Asian cake here with the fruit filling. I wanted to try more things, but didn't know they were a Cash Only establishment. Always gets the job done! I love the fact that they never change their menu, so I can try a new flavor until I settle on a "usual" at some point. I've been here a couple times and they've hit the spot every darn time! It's a small little place but they pack quite a bit of baked goods out in the lobby and a lot of drink mixes behind the counter. The first time I came here was a few years ago and I settled on the Passionfruit flavor. Lemme tell y'all, it is seriously one of the best drinks I've had in my life. It was just as good as my first Passionfruit Bubble Tea I had in NYC at La Crepe, La Yogurt. On my second visit, I had the Melon flavor. It was reminiscent of Honeydew but in a sweet, almost candy-like form, with a smidge of tartness. Did not disappoint. I also had this very soft cake, not sure what it was called but it was layered and very light, almost like a triangular pillow. Delicious. On my most recent visit, I had ordered the Taro flavored one! It was beautifully purple and had a wonderful roasty and nutty flavor, almost similar to Hazelnut. I also paired it with a sweet bun/cookie like thing - I apologize as I can't recall the name. It was flaky, sweet, eggy and had a filling of dry milk in it. I haven't gone here in years... Recently I made the mistake of coming here late at night with only my card. I did not realize it was cash only until after I gave them all my buns for packing. After ringing me up, they were really understanding and said I could come in next time and pay. That was quite shocking to me that they would trust a random person in this day and age to that extent. Boba tea (tapioca pearls) is real popular in the west coast areas such as L.A. and Las Vegas. I've tried a few places in Michigan that serve boba tea to try and mimic that deliciousness I've had in Las Vegas..much to no success. Until I came here QQ makes it just right! I had their beef curry, chicken curry, custard bun, and hotdog & cheese bun. If you have a beater car, drive it anytime you have to enter this parking lot. Small lot + tight turns + terrible drivers = several adrenaline fueled minutes of avoiding potential collisions. This review is based 100% on my post-wisdom tooth extraction memory of the honeydew boba tea my BF brought me. As such, it contains secondary pointers on post-extraction care. I was in and out of consciousness after getting my teeth yanked out. You can't eat ahead of getting knocked out for the procedure, so by the time I was starting to act like a functional human being again, I was starving. I tried to drink water- gagged. Tried to sip chicken broth- spilled it all over my poofy face, and then barfed. Queue the timely arrival of boba tea. The straws are huge, and as such I could use them like a massive pipette to deliver cool, refreshing nourishment to my gauze packed mouth. Maybe it was the drugs, maybe it was the fact that I hadn't consumed anything in 24 hours, maybe I was just happy to not be spilling or barfing- but that was the best damn drink I've ever had. Sure, it wasn't REAL honeydew like the kind I've had in Chicago. But you know what? The powder tastes better, like honeydew on 'roids. And they do it right, so that there's no lingering grittiness from the powder mix. Besides the crazy parking lot, the only other negative in my experience were the tapioca pearls themselves. Chewy on the outside, hard on the inside. I think people are a little harsh on QQ. Anything I don't like about QQ is not because of the shop but the plaza that it is in. the parking is insane. People don't seem to know the rules for fire safety here. But QQ itself is a great little place with good food. It's the best place to go for a student like myself to get lunch for school the next day since I'm a busy college student with almost no time to eat. The baked goods here are easy to transport and take with you. the prices are amazing. I do get tripped up that they only take cash but I always remember that before I go. It's not that big a deal, seeing as how a lot of this food can be bought with pocket change. The food is a great deal for the price and it's pretty good. The angel food cake is awesome. I bought my birthday cake here. The staff is always really friendly, though they are really busy. The store is really crunched. The sign for max. occupancy is something insane like 11. I have been to tons of bakeries in New York where in some neighborhoods, there is a bakery on practically every block. In Michigan, this is not the case and the only Asian bakeries within driving distances are QQ, Taipan, and Hippo. QQ bakery offers decent selections and fulfills my cravings. I usually go for the egg tarts, steamed white sugar rice cakes, and fried sesame balls. They also have a large selection of bubble teas though they are all made from powders. You can always ask for the traditional black tea and cream instead which I often do. Overall, prices are good and the service is friendly. I will continue supporting them. I got taro and my girlfriend got green melon, both of which were absolutely delicious. Sooo, I'm going to have to frequent this place a bit more often now. As far as baked goods go, they had a noticeably larger offering and I recommend going on a Saturday for good pickings. I really want to like this place! The owner (I think he's the owner anyway) is so nice and friendly, and the baked goods all look like they'll taste great, but after giving QQ several chances I've finally given up. Every time I go shopping next door at Kim Nhung I feel tempted to stop in here for a snack, but I have never had a single thing that I thought tasted really good. A few times the pastry I bought was downright stale. Next time I'm in the area I'll give Tai Pan a try and see if they're any better. I know it is a Japanese bakery so the offerings are a little different, but if you're in the market for red bean buns, custard buns, or savory snacks, nothing holds a candle to Pastry House Hippo in Novi. I've ordered many of their delicious cakes here, and picked up bbq pork buns, almond/ raisin twist bread, ham/egg sandwich, coconut cream buns, taro buns, hot dog buns, fried pork/ cucumber sandwich, egg tarts, and bubble teas. Everything is yummy, but if you plan on stopping by on the weekends, then I would suggest going early in the day so you can get the pastries, sandwiches, and other homemade baked goods, as fresh as possible and before they run out! Out of everything that they make, if there is one thing that you must try, then it would be one of their delicious cakes. Butter Buns. I cut my teeth (literally?) growing up in east coast Asian bakeries (they're like our Starbucks), so generally, I would give this place would be a 2 or 3. BUT given that we're in Michigan, and no one gives a crap about east coast bakeries, this place is a solid four. They have some of the BEST BUTTER BUNS I've ever had, and they come in cute packages of four for a measly $1. One year, we were in charge of bringing the dinner rolls to Thanksgiving (with the white folks...yeah, I said it- it's relevant!). I brought over 10 of these packages, and they were raved about all night. As far as everything else goes, I'm...meh. Get some Portuguese-style egg tarts, QQ, and we'll powwow again. I don't know what anything is called in English, but the bun with the cream down the middle and coconut shreds on top (lai yow bow) is inconsistent. The one time I bought it, the bread was dry and hard. Another time when my aunt forced one on me, it wasn't half bad. The giant mochi ball coated in coconut with the peanut filling (law mai chee) is usually one of my favorites elsewhere, but here, the skin's a little too thick for the amount of filling.
