    Donuts being freshly made!
    Desmond J.

People have argued with me that this is the best place in Detroit and I've always shot them down because it looked small and was closed every time i thought to visit the place. Well, foot-in-my-mouth moment for sure when I did catch them open and entered. Big surprises come in small packages because from the outside you can see everything that makes up this shop: the menus, the counter, a table for sitting, and the machine they create the donuts with. Now, when you enter, a huge, almost overwhelming smell of delightful sugar and warm fuzzy feeling from the heat emitting from the doughnut maker hits you and at that point....YOU HAVE TO GET SOME! Now, this is where the fun begins: A bag is a baker's dozen whereas a bucket is 3 baker's dozens and if you bring the bucket back they refill at a discount! Dough is dropped into this machine that cutely fries one side as it traverses a lazy river of oil until a mini catapult tosses it on its other side to be fried and sent down another lazy river of oil and then catapulted into a dish to dry. From there, you let the staff know if you would prefer plain or the several options of sugars. Finally, if that is not enough sweetness for you, they have dipping sauce ranging from vanilla to fruity mango! So here you are, walking out of the nostalgic feeling spot and heading downtown Detroit with a smoking hot bag of soft, possibly sugary donuts like you just made trip 2 hours to an apple orchard and all you can do is think to yourself: how did I get lucky enough to experience this to tell this tale? So now, it is my turn to express that is place is, still arguably, the best donuts in Detroit. I could give it best in downtown confidently, but all of Detroit? Time will tell ;-)

Eating these fresh and hot little donuts is like steeping into the gates of heaven itself. Love at first bite. It might be hard to savor them as you find yourself devouring the bag quite quickly, though it's best to eat them piping hot. There's quite a few in bag and for $5 a bag it's a great value. For these reasons, this is an absolute winner.

The smell of this confectionary delight wafts in the air as you approach from Broadway. I first became familiar with DMD as a vendor at my place of employment. I was very happy to discover their storefront to enjoy them outside of work. The owners are very warm and welcoming.

My daughter was all dressed up and ready to go for donuts! Online it said they were open but when I got there, paid $20 for parking and went to the door it was closed! Smh UPDATE YOUR SCHEDULE/HOURS!! No one wants to waste their money paying for parking!!

These mini donuts are made FRESH and the LEMONADE is FRESH SQUEEZED! GREAT prices! The drink was huge. I got a Mango lemonade and my sister had a lavender lemonade. They were both so delicious on a warm day. The donuts weren't warm by the time we got home and they still melted in our mouths. We will def be back to try more.

Other mochi donut…read moreplaces sometimes serve stale, clearly-days-old donuts, but here they are fresh, sometimes just out of the oven, if you time it right. There never seem to be any holdovers from previous days. Part of this is because they only make X amount of certain flavors per day - once they're gone, they're gone. As for the milk tea, it's all about consistency. Other places are okay, but feel watery in comparison to Mochi Dough's. BUT - it's also extraordinarily sweet. My go-to is the hazelnut at 25% sugar, I don't think I could handle it at full power. Even at 25%, it's plenty sweet. Their fruit teas are pretty great too, and full of freshly cut fruit. I recommend trying all the flavors! You might find a new favorite! You can mix and match as much as you want. My only gripe is the price, and I feel like - at least as far as the donuts are concerned - you pay as much for the box as you do for the donuts. It's a very nice box, but I can't eat it. They could cut costs - and prices - by scaling back the packaging. That'd be pretty nice, but it probably doesn't fit the brand. Look around in the store - it's designed to be Instagrammed. I just want the donuts. Nobody needs to know.

If I could give this a zero star, I would. I really hope the owner would see this and deal with the manager lady that's there. We were greeted with a rude condescending tone and behavior, upon payment for the food, when asking about where the packets of Ramen were initially. She sighed, rolled her eyes and said "there's two shelves right there". Later on when we used the machine to put the boiling water into the bowls, we pressed a button, and the bowl immediately caught fire within seconds of placing it on the machine. We immediately turned off the flame and walk the bowl over to the register to let her know that it caught fire. To our surprise, she replied with a sigh, and a roll of her eyes and said "that's because you did it wrong, and if this happens again, I'm gonna have you guys leave because it's a fire hazard". When she said that, I told her that she doesn't have to talk to us that way, and immediately went off on us. She started yelling at me, saying that I couldn't read, can't see, I can't read directions and so forth. she went on and on about how we didn't know how to read directions. See the video. She went full-blown defense mode as if this has happened before and she came prepared to respond. I did not complain about the bowl burning, I only was telling her about it. Neither were we rude or complaining. I really think that there was a different motive behind the reason she treated us this way, we are a family with two people that wear hijab. There was no other reason to explain her poor behavior with us. We were not rude to her, we did not complain. We simply stated the fact nicely. When I asked her if this was a racism thing, she pointed at a worker with her, who may of been a different nationality, then she says one of her friends that works there is also my type or whatever she said, to prove her innocence from racial profiling. Overall, she was completely out of line, disrespectfully rude, it's as if she spoke to people this way all the time. She claims she's the manager, and that the owner left the store to her and left Michigan. Everything was hers when she spoke, my wall, my store my instructions, my this, my that, and she was in full entitlement over how she can speak to people and her choice about who she wants to serve.
