First time visiting Donut Chef and I will for sure be back! Everything looked delicious! Apple fritters are my favorite and I'm pretty picky. I tried their apple fritter and it was the best I've ever had! So happy to find this business. read more

These donuts are phenomenal! I kid you not. I love the eye catching sign outside and the inside has the same orange theme throughout. The woman behind the counter was very sweet and taking care of multiple customers by herself. We went with a toasted coconut cream, glazed twists, m&m, blueberry and a cinnamon sugar. And then got an apple fritter as well; these tasted fresh and they pull apart beautifully. My son doesn't eat anything right now but licked all the cinnamon sugar off of his claimed donut. The apple fritter was one of the better ones we've had. All in all, this is a wonderful little spot and I'm glad we happened upon it. Looking forward to our next visit. read more

Had to go back. Ordered a lemon pie, strawberry, & apple . Should have known better and went early in the day. 11am Saturday & many flavors sold out. The are real donuts - not like the chain places! read more

Very nice family owned business, service was excellent. They have a large variety of specialised doughnuts. I bought the coconut doughnut, which had plenty of coconut flakes on top and cream in middle. I also got the cherry fritter, which I wish had more cherry flavour or cherry flakes. The place is nice and cozy with couple of seats. read more

Best donut shop ever! I grew up with Dawn donuts and l9cal bakery's as the best donuts and baked goods, and the donut chef is like brining back the local shop. Great selection too. read more

Ordered a raspberry and a custard filled donut. The raspberry was good and I used it for this review comparing it to pazki and Krispy Crème's. Donut Chef was not perfect in either the dough or filling, but still rated a 4 star. The customer area was spotless and what could be seen of the kitchen looked the same. Price is inline with the competition. read more

The donuts look great, soft and moist. Other than their specialty donuts and the plain glazed, the donuts (such as peanut, cake donuts, sour cream) are much smaller than other donut shops. Their specialty donuts are the same size as Regular donuts at other shops. Price was a hefty $8.99 for the half dozen smaller donuts, including a "larger" specialty donut. Peanut - very moist, cakey texture. Cake itself had some kind of flavoring in it but it wasn't for me. It's not as sweet as most donuts you find elsewhere Cinnamon Sugar - also moist, cakey texture, but lacked flavor and sweetness, even with the sugar/cinnamon topping Classic Glazed - doughy, chewy texture, nicely glazed (not slathered on) but taste was bland to me. Couldn't taste flavor or sweetness in the donut even with the glaze Toasted Coconut (specialty donut) - a raised donut cut in half with a custard filling which didn't have much of flavor including the dough portion. Taste came mainly from toasted coconut covering donut read more

This is it! Some of the very best high quality donuts in the Shelby-Utica area. Up until having Donut Chef I would drive to Rochester to get Knapps. Don't waste the trip. These are better than Knapps. Every donut is a work of art, the staff are lovely and even the coffee is excellent. Enjoy! read more

We came in here on a Saturday and wanted to try it after having driven by numerous times. The donuts are more of specialty/fun donuts and they look picture perfect. I got the fruity pebbles donut and husband got the vanilla sprinkle donut. We both enjoyed our donuts and thought they tasted very fresh. They are decently big donuts and reasonably priced. We will be back to try some of the other flavors. read more

YUM!!! Stopped in Sunday morning to see what all the fuss was about! Let me preface this review with I'm not really a donut person... OMG! The cherry chip donut was so delicious! Fresh and cakey with the perfect ratio of almond & cherry flavor. This was definitely the first donut I've eaten so fast in years!! I also tried a bite of both cherry fritter and sour cream donuts. I prefer my fritters to have a bit more of a crunch, but the flavor was there so I'll take it! Small shop with a great selection and some flavors I haven't seen before like strawberry swirl... Friendly on the phone and in person! I'll be back! Love supporting local establishments especially when they are fantastic at their craft! read more

The best donuts in the area, hands down. Always a variety of flavors to choose from! Butterfinger and the PB&J are my favorite

I've been looking for a really good yeast donut in the area, and have been disappointed with most of them. Someone recommended Donut Chef to me, so it thought I'd try it. I am so glad I did. They have a ton of options, and some of them are really creative and sound delicious. I got an assortment to try because they all looked good. Once I tried one, it was confirmed. The maple glazed donut was awesome. The donut itself was soft and pillowy and chewy. The glaze was delicious, the maple flavor was perfect without being too much or too sweet. I can't wait to try the others and will definitely head back there soon. read more

They used to make their drinks good. Either they got lazy or hired incompetent staff. Latte should have espresso and not just syrup/milk for $6. read more

The donuts are sooo fresh at Donut Chef. My favorites are the glazed twist, chocolate glaze, and apple fritter. But you can't go wrong with any that you choose. I wish it wasn't about a 30 minute drive from my house because I'd be here often. Now that I think about it; being 30 minutes away is a blessing to my waistline. read more

The Nutella donut was delicious as expected! The cherry fritter had a good texture but was very boring and had no cherry flavor. I will definitely be back, but will make sure I go earlier in the morning. I went at 10:45 and they were almost sold out. read more

I've ordered donuts from here a few times, and although slightly pricey, their donuts are worth it. These are some of the best local donuts. You can tell that they were made fresh and the icing is always moist and not "old and crusty." My favorite are the butter cream filled, but I'm yet to have one of their donuts that I don't like. read more

I have just finished one magnificent toasted coconut donut that's cut in half and filled with custard...shut the front door!!!! That's just one of a dozen gourmet and classic pastries I purchased at this recent opened business. The write ups in NEXTDOOR and here in Yelp should hopefully get this business a warm Shelby Township welcome. You'll be rubbing your tummy after dinner and thanking them. Have been at this place a number of times and it is so consistently good! The selection is great and the flavors and quality is fantastic. Favorites: the oreo donuts are consistently my favorite. I've found some of the filled ones not to be the best, but the cannoli ones are good - the kitkat are excellent, and just normal chocolate frosted is great - the mark of a quality doughnut. This spot is one we'll return to often! read more

Simply put- There is magic happening here Every donut was incredible. The gourmet donuts- wow. All so unique. You can tell how much passion goes into everything. Great attention to detail. The fruity pebbles donuts taste like milk and cereal. Toasted coconut was flakey and crunchy not too sweet. The canoli donut might have been the best and I don't even like canolis normally. Compliments to the Chef! We will definitely be back read more

If you're looking for amazing donuts and great people this is the place to go. I live close by and have had and reviewed this donut establishment before and I must say consistency is amazing. I tried this place when I first bought my house a over a year ago and have been coming in to surprise my family every so often ever since. The family who runs this place is always nice and welcoming. The donuts are so fresh and taste amazing with unique flavors as well as familiar ones. These are the businesses that do not get enough attention! It can be a little hard to find being a hold in the wall on Gratiot but I have and will continue to always recommend this place over any chain. Keep up the great work l! read more

The BEST donuts and the BEST service. Go here you will not regret it. Better service and donuts than any place macomb/Shelby has to offer.

Our daughters first birthday was coming up and we tried a few local donut shops to try and figure out where we wanted to order from. We tried Donut Chef 1 week before her birthday and absolutely loved the donuts. They were so light and airy, and the fillings were amazing. Even the glaze was just the perfect amount of sweet. So for our daughters birthday we bought 3 dozen donuts and EVERYONE loved the donuts. We kept getting asked where we got the donuts and where the shop was located. On top of ordering 3 dozen donuts, the lady behind the counter asked what I was ordering for, and I told her my daughters first birthday. She told me if I had a moment to wait, she wanted to make a special donut for our daughter to have. She even out a candle in it! I am beyond impressed with the customer service, and we will be back! All of the donuts are wonderful! read more
