I can't believe I've driven past Mochi Dough all these years when I'm at this shopping plaza a few times a month to go to PetSmart or across the street to go to the Container Store. OK...now that you all know where it's located (corner of Rochester Road/Big Beaver - S/W corner) on to the good stuff. It's a cute little shop, definitely Instagram-worthy. When you walk in, do not walk up to the counter to order, you MUST use the kiosk. Therein lies my gripe. Sometimes, hard to believe, I only want 1, ONE, donut. Here, you can only order 3, 6 or 9. It's not like, I can't eat 3 donuts but diet-wise, maybe I only want one. In any case, there is no flexibility in ordering. Once you complete the kiosk order, they call your name and you go up to the counter to order. There are regular flavors and special flavors. I went for a mix and limited myself to three because since this was my first time, I wanted to the whole experience. I ordered the taro-ube, strawberry shortcake, and tiramisu. If you've never had a mochi donut, they are made from glutinous rice flour so they are chewier then the average cake or yeast donut. These donuts are topped with frosting which gives each donut their unique flavor. They are definitely a 10 on the sugar overload scale. My favorite was the strawberry shortcake because it reminded me of the Good Humor strawberry shortcake ice cream bar I used to eat as a kid. It also gave me the sugar buzz I got as a kid from eating too much sugar. There is also a laundry list of different types of drinks but I was short on time and my AC1 couldn't handle more sugar. In my opinion, they are the best mochi donut and milk tea around, for miles. Other mochi donut places sometimes serve stale, clearly-days-old donuts, but here they are fresh, sometimes just out of the oven, if you time it right. There never seem to be any holdovers from previous days. Part of this is because they only make X amount of certain flavors per day - once they're gone, they're gone. As for the milk tea, it's all about consistency. Other places are okay, but feel watery in comparison to Mochi Dough's. BUT - it's also extraordinarily sweet. My go-to is the hazelnut at 25% sugar, I don't think I could handle it at full power. Even at 25%, it's plenty sweet. Their fruit teas are pretty great too, and full of freshly cut fruit. I recommend trying all the flavors! You might find a new favorite! You can mix and match as much as you want. My only gripe is the price, and I feel like - at least as far as the donuts are concerned - you pay as much for the box as you do for the donuts. It's a very nice box, but I can't eat it. They could cut costs - and prices - by scaling back the packaging. That'd be pretty nice, but it probably doesn't fit the brand. Look around in the store - it's designed to be Instagrammed. My first mochi doughnut! I decided to go for a three pack for $7.50. I believe if you buy just one they are $3.00 a pop. I'm a big fan of mochi ice cream and I've tasted over a dozen different flavors of them. So of course it was an easy choice to pick black sesame as my first choice. I arrived around noon, so choices were limited; so glad to see this business prosper. I also added the churros and funnel cake. Those two were basically cinnamon sugar coated and powdered sugar coated respectively. All were delicious, but black sesame was the winner. I think I took exception to it because it was frosted. Aesthetically mochi donuts is a 10 out of 10. From the outside to every section of the inside looks like something very Instagram worthy. I appreciate how much they put into the appearance. Luckily, there was no one there when I arrived so the woman at the counter told me how it worked - basically, you order & pay at the kiosk and then choose your flavors when your name is called. I opted for the plain, the churro, and the apple pie. They also had biscoff, matcha, sesame, and a few others. After one bite, I realized I've had something similar before but it took me a minute to place it.... An elephant ear! Except these aren't served warm and they're smaller. Located Troy, in a very packed shopping plaza. We had to park in a neighboring lot to come here. You have to order in the kiosks then go up to the counter to pick your donuts. They also sell Bober tea here, but we didn't try it. We got the birthday cake, mango, strawberry chocolate, black sesame, spider man (raspberry), and taro. The ambiance is bright and clean. Absolutely love this place !! Im just incredibly sad i just found this place after living in Troy for 3 years. I don't know why nobody has ever told me about it?!? This place is comparable to Crumbl Cookie but for donuts!! Their flavors and design of the donuts are absolutely stunning. So stand and eat, or order to go. Also... you don't order at the counter... there are 2 kiosks you order from. Then they receive a ticket, call your name and your proceed with your selections. Also Definitely try their drinks !! These are staple must haves! I ordered a supreme strawberry green tea with homemade chizu cream - it tasted like a strawberries and cream milkshake !!! Finding a place that makes a good mochi doughnut is always an exciting thing. If you've ever had pon-de-ringu at Mister Donuts in Japan, this is a very close imitation! Yum. The original/plain one is slightly less sweet than its flavoured counterparts, which I loved. The bubble tea was too sweet for my taste (even at 75% sweetness), and there weren't as many options of tea flavours and toppings as other places I've been to. My biggest complaint was the set up. Using the machines to order was a bit of a nuisance (not challenging to operate, but things like amount of ice were not customizable for the drinks). You also cannot select your doughnut flavours through the machine, so you have to first order via machine, then wait for a worker to call you up to choose your flavours. The machine seems like a wasted extra step. There is also not a way to order just one doughnut. You are locked into purchasing three, six, or possibly bigger amounts. Certain flavours are "reserve" and you can only order one of these flavours per box. The place was decorated in a manner that young teenage girls might like, which I suppose is the target audience, even though the tea is fairly expensive for what it is. Summary: Delicious mochi doughnuts are 5/5 stars. Way of ordering is subpar, and tea is mediocre. read more

I was so happy to see this place right across from the Nordstrom rack plaza off of big beaver/ right off the freeway. Each mochi donut is listed as $2.50 and they have some very creative flavors. The employees working were nice and there are some good selfie points in here if you want to take a picture with your churro mochi donut. I like how light the donuts taste compared to traditional donuts, which feel heavier and more fried. I would definitely come back here. I reviewed (really attempted to review) this place in the past. In the past I accused this place of being a mafia front business because it was never open. I tried multiple times, over several months and nothing. Recently I was in the area for a different business and I thought "let's swing buy the money laundering place". I was shocked to see "customers" going in and out with what looked like "boxes or doughnuts". I decided to go in. I saw products in the counter display. I asked the girls behind the counter to get 6, I was told "you need to order first". Silly me, I thought that's what I was doing by asking for 6 doughnuts. They explained that you order on the wall kiosks, then tell them which exact doughnuts you wanted. I followed the instructions and got a couple cookies and cream, a couple churros, and a couple funnel cakes. They were awesome. I paid $17 after tip and taxes and that was fair for the quality I received. Definitely worth going now that the mafia opened their doors for actually selling products. The parking is free but limited, you may (gasp) have to walk a couple hundred feet, the place is clean and well appointed, the staff is friendly and helpful. Been here a handful of times over the past two years- such a fan! The drinks are so good, the donuts are some of the best I've ever had, and the interior is adorable, very instagram-able! I typically get a bubble tea, most recently a Brown sugar bubble tea, and would recommend getting 75% sugar for most drinks- they tend to air on the sweet side. I really liked the texture of the mochi doughnut, it's similar in texture to a cruller, with a slightly chewier feel. And the flavors were really fun. My favorite being the ube, and the black sesame. But the Fruity Pebbles doughnut was a surprise hit as well. I actually enjoyed all the flavors we tried, but those were just my personal picks. They kept remarkably well in the fridge for a couple of days. And we popped one in the microwave for a couple of seconds the next day, and put Van Leeuwen Earl Grey ice cream in the middle, it was super good. My friend and I went for the soft opening and we were super excited to try mochi donuts! There was a relatively long line to order and it's good that they had a kiosk for that which made it more efficient. However, we still had to wait awhile since the employees are still getting the hang of making boba and grabbing donuts for customers at the same time. This process will definitely get better over time! We got three donuts - black sesame, taro, and Thai milk tea. Our personal favorite was definitely the black sesame and enjoyed the glaze mixed with the chewy and spongy dough. It's quite good and definitely worth the try if you're a black sesame fan. We also enjoyed the taro and found that the Thai milk tea was a bit too sweet. It comes in a pretty box and extremely shareable with friends :) In general, I liked the donut itself more than the glaze - felt like it was more sugary and sweet than the flavor itself. Overall, worth a try, but it was definitely a really long wait for three donuts. We waited for about 40 minutes and had to go up to the counter to ask for our order since we realized some people who came after us already left with their orders. When I first saw this place I ran to the window and drooled. I was so excited to finally have a mochi donut place in the area. I had been stalking those treats on Insta for ages. Today I arrived around noon midweek and the place was fairly busy with customers coming and going. The employees were commenting on the reduced hours since it was not as busy but it seemed bustling when I arrived. I must say though, I did have my doubts once inside. They do not have a menu board for the donuts and tea to the point where I was not even sure they sold tea anymore. They also only had a few of each donut on the board and it appeared like they were almost sold out and there were a few customers in front of me and a whole bunch of customers behind me. Once I got up to the front of the line I saw one plastic fold out menu for the tea. I asked if they had all of the flavors, and they did have plenty in the back. I decided to get the six pack. I got the cookie monster, strawberry, panda, taro, and cookies and cream. I also decided to try their signature milk tea. Once I got my order I sampled a donut before leaving. I tried the cookie monster. It was absolutely delicious! So soft, chewy, and fresh, I could eat all six in one sitting, they are so good. I was actually shocked how yummy it was, a solid donut experience. I was also very delighted by the tea. It was really tasty and refreshing. I do not love tapioca bobas but these are brown sugar ones that are chewy and very flavorful. I am not entirely sure everything stated on the menu was in my tea, but it was pretty amazing. A lot of times milk tea has too much milk and not enough tea flavor, but this seemed to have a great balance. This place is very pricey for what you get though. It was almost $7 for the tea and $15 for only six small donuts. While the taste makes up for the value, it is not a cheap trip over here so I can only imagine how much it cost to get tea plus donuts for the entire family. They also seem to be working out the bugs of running a business. They seemed to have enough people working here but did not seem to be very efficient with their pacing or organization. They also lacked more menus or visuals to have your order, especially the tea order in advanced to move the line along. I have a sweet tooth and this place is directly across from my son's swim school. I decided to treat us to an after swim treat. Upon walking in, you order at a kiosk. The order goes straight to the counter where you pick your donuts. They had a good selection of donuts. We chose to go with some basic flavors as it was our first time. We went with the original and funnel cake. They were delicious. The donuts are very airy and aren't heavy like a traditional donut. I also got their Nutty OG iced coffee which was very good. As most have mentioned, this place is very heavy on the aesthetics and appears to be designed to encourage insta photos. The donuts themselves are decent. Would prefer the flavor be incorporated into the mochi dough mix however the flavors sits mostly as a topping covering the donut. So each donut more or less tastes the same.
