Perfect chewy consistency and photo-worthy shape. We tried the Taro-Ube, Fruity Pebbles, and powdered sugar. All good, but I will say the flavor distinction was subtle. Service was super speedy and it was easy to order at the automated kiosk. Super cute decor inside with a pink flower wall for photo ops. read more

I can't believe I've driven past Mochi Dough all these years when I'm at this shopping plaza a few times a month to go to PetSmart or across the street to go to the Container Store. OK...now that you all know where it's located (corner of Rochester Road/Big Beaver - S/W corner) on to the good stuff. It's a cute little shop, definitely Instagram-worthy. When you walk in, do not walk up to the counter to order, you MUST use the kiosk. Therein lies my gripe. Sometimes, hard to believe, I only want 1, ONE, donut. Here, you can only order 3, 6 or 9. It's not like, I can't eat 3 donuts but diet-wise, maybe I only want one. In any case, there is no flexibility in ordering. Once you complete the kiosk order, they call your name and you go up to the counter to order. There are regular flavors and special flavors. I went for a mix and limited myself to three because since this was my first time, I wanted to the whole experience. I ordered the taro-ube, strawberry shortcake, and tiramisu. If you've never had a mochi donut, they are made from glutinous rice flour so they are chewier then the average cake or yeast donut. These donuts are topped with frosting which gives each donut their unique flavor. They are definitely a 10 on the sugar overload scale. My favorite was the strawberry shortcake because it reminded me of the Good Humor strawberry shortcake ice cream bar I used to eat as a kid. It also gave me the sugar buzz I got as a kid from eating too much sugar. There is also a laundry list of different types of drinks but I was short on time and my AC1 couldn't handle more sugar. I'll have to come back another time just for a drink. If you've never had a mochi donut, I recommend stopping by with a friend and splitting a few. read more

In my opinion, they are the best mochi donut and milk tea around, for miles. Other mochi donut places sometimes serve stale, clearly-days-old donuts, but here they are fresh, sometimes just out of the oven, if you time it right. There never seem to be any holdovers from previous days. Part of this is because they only make X amount of certain flavors per day - once they're gone, they're gone. As for the milk tea, it's all about consistency. Other places are okay, but feel watery in comparison to Mochi Dough's. BUT - it's also extraordinarily sweet. My go-to is the hazelnut at 25% sugar, I don't think I could handle it at full power. Even at 25%, it's plenty sweet. Their fruit teas are pretty great too, and full of freshly cut fruit. I recommend trying all the flavors! You might find a new favorite! You can mix and match as much as you want. My only gripe is the price, and I feel like - at least as far as the donuts are concerned - you pay as much for the box as you do for the donuts. It's a very nice box, but I can't eat it. They could cut costs - and prices - by scaling back the packaging. That'd be pretty nice, but it probably doesn't fit the brand. Look around in the store - it's designed to be Instagrammed. I just want the donuts. Nobody needs to know. read more

A coworker brought these donuts to work, they were great! I had never tried a mochi donut before, or any donut made with rice flour. I liked the taro flavor, the biscoff and peach were also a big hit. I can't speak to the price because prices aren't listed on the website. read more

My first mochi doughnut! I decided to go for a three pack for $7.50. I believe if you buy just one they are $3.00 a pop. I'm a big fan of mochi ice cream and I've tasted over a dozen different flavors of them. So of course it was an easy choice to pick black sesame as my first choice. I arrived around noon, so choices were limited; so glad to see this business prosper. I also added the churros and funnel cake. Those two were basically cinnamon sugar coated and powdered sugar coated respectively. All were delicious, but black sesame was the winner. I think I took exception to it because it was frosted. Next time I'm in town this summer I will be back and try other frosted flavors. I'll have to get there early though! I think the owner was running the shop and there were no other workers around. Customers ordered and paid from a machine and when you were called up to the counter you then chose your flavors. They do have counter seating along the window, but I took my yummies to go. read more

Aesthetically mochi donuts is a 10 out of 10. From the outside to every section of the inside looks like something very Instagram worthy. I appreciate how much they put into the appearance. However when it came to the actual donuts, it seems something may have fell flat. I ordered a combination of the cookies and cream, powdered sugar, red velvet and banana donuts. Perhaps I went in with super high expectations but based off the appearance I was expecting them to be delicious and they were simply ok. Not nasty by any means, but just very ok. I did get some Milk tea and that was very tasty, way better than the donuts. There are kiosks that you order your food/drinks that are fairly simple to figured. So you can pick the amount of donuts you want to pay for, and then when it's your turn at the register you'll go up and select which items you want. I think Mochi has lots of potential and I want to give it another shot but overall a solid spot in Troy. read more

Mochi dough is sooo cute! I love the picturesque interior and how fun it is. These are great treats to enjoy on your own or bring to a party - they are always a hit! I love all the fun flavors but the classic funnel cake is my favorite. Service can take some time especially when they are backed up, and flavors often sell out, so I would recommend ordering ahead. read more

Craving mochi donuts or want to try them? This is the place! We had them on a trip to Texas and fell in love with the crispy outside, pillowy and slightly chewy inside treats. Several flavors to choose from, but the black sesame and any fruity flavors are our favs. Even my 84 year old parents love them. Cool digital ordering screens on the wall as soon as you walk in. Fun selfie walls too. Whenever we are downstate, we try to figure out a way to get to Mochi Dough. read more

This is the cutest place ever! Best iced Matcha that i've ever had (50% sweetness), i wish i would've gotten it a little more sweeter! bonus: i purchased the cup with a surprise and received the cutest surprise plushy ever, i cried a little because of how cute it was! For the main attraction, these donuts are so GOOOOD they are to die for! Taro was my favorite--it has such a rich/creamy taste! Birthday cake/cake batter something like that was also my most favorite! It is an absolute mouth party! Lastly, I tried the churro one! It was good too! Will be back 10/10 highly recommend! The service was also amazing! read more

Intrigued by the idea of a mochi donut mashup, I popped into this insta-worthy shop and got a 3-pack to go. There is no seating so that's actually your only option. Luckily, there was no one there when I arrived so the woman at the counter told me how it worked - basically, you order & pay at the kiosk and then choose your flavors when your name is called. I opted for the plain, the churro, and the apple pie. They also had biscoff, matcha, sesame, and a few others. After one bite, I realized I've had something similar before but it took me a minute to place it.... An elephant ear! Except these aren't served warm and they're smaller. But my favorite out of the 3 was the churro. It was definitely fun to try them. read more

Located Troy, in a very packed shopping plaza. We had to park in a neighboring lot to come here. You have to order in the kiosks then go up to the counter to pick your donuts. They also sell Bober tea here, but we didn't try it. We got the birthday cake, mango, strawberry chocolate, black sesame, spider man (raspberry), and taro. The ambiance is bright and clean. Tons of opportunities for selfies or group photos while waiting in line. The service was fine. They basically just put the donuts in the box for you. read more

Absolutely love this place !! Im just incredibly sad i just found this place after living in Troy for 3 years. I don't know why nobody has ever told me about it?!? This place is comparable to Crumbl Cookie but for donuts!! Their flavors and design of the donuts are absolutely stunning. I am not someone who can eat regular donuts because of the yeast - it completely makes me feel nauseous. But these donuts are made of rice flour instead of yeast - and are so freaking good !! I can now eat donuts. This isn't like your traditional donut shop. I think it's more fun to eat and look at. The interior is absolutely gorgeous! Great photo opportunities for the IG fanatics. I love how multiple people can share one donut with the pull-apart circles. My family of 6 ordered a 12 pack and were able to try all of them ! It was so nice! We didn't even eat 1/2 the box and it lasted several days. Word of advice, If you want to eat inside, the only seating they have is a standing window bar top - no tables and chairs inside. So stand and eat, or order to go. Also... you don't order at the counter... there are 2 kiosks you order from. Then they receive a ticket, call your name and your proceed with your selections. Also Definitely try their drinks !! These are staple must haves! I ordered a supreme strawberry green tea with homemade chizu cream - it tasted like a strawberries and cream milkshake !!! Absolutely delicious !! Everything is a little on the expensive side - similar to Starbucks costs (~$6-7 a drink and $30 for a box of 12 donuts). But definitely worth the treat if willing to splurge a little. read more

The world is indeed a better place now that mochi donut has finally arrived in Michigan and in Troy itself. I was so happy to see this place right across from the Nordstrom rack plaza off of big beaver/ right off the freeway. Each mochi donut is listed as $2.50 and they have some very creative flavors. The employees working were nice and there are some good selfie points in here if you want to take a picture with your churro mochi donut. I like how light the donuts taste compared to traditional donuts, which feel heavier and more fried. I would definitely come back here. I love the pink boxes the donuts come in and how trendy and cute the place itself is. Definitely worth a visit asap and a wonderful addition to Troy. read more

Finding a place that makes a good mochi doughnut is always an exciting thing. If you've ever had pon-de-ringu at Mister Donuts in Japan, this is a very close imitation! Yum. The original/plain one is slightly less sweet than its flavoured counterparts, which I loved. The bubble tea was too sweet for my taste (even at 75% sweetness), and there weren't as many options of tea flavours and toppings as other places I've been to. My biggest complaint was the set up. Using the machines to order was a bit of a nuisance (not challenging to operate, but things like amount of ice were not customizable for the drinks). You also cannot select your doughnut flavours through the machine, so you have to first order via machine, then wait for a worker to call you up to choose your flavours. The machine seems like a wasted extra step. There is also not a way to order just one doughnut. You are locked into purchasing three, six, or possibly bigger amounts. Certain flavours are "reserve" and you can only order one of these flavours per box. The place was decorated in a manner that young teenage girls might like, which I suppose is the target audience, even though the tea is fairly expensive for what it is. Summary: Delicious mochi doughnuts are 5/5 stars. Way of ordering is subpar, and tea is mediocre. read more

My friend and I went for the soft opening and we were super excited to try mochi donuts! There was a relatively long line to order and it's good that they had a kiosk for that which made it more efficient. However, we still had to wait awhile since the employees are still getting the hang of making boba and grabbing donuts for customers at the same time. This process will definitely get better over time! We got three donuts - black sesame, taro, and Thai milk tea. Our personal favorite was definitely the black sesame and enjoyed the glaze mixed with the chewy and spongy dough. It's quite good and definitely worth the try if you're a black sesame fan. We also enjoyed the taro and found that the Thai milk tea was a bit too sweet. It comes in a pretty box and extremely shareable with friends :) In general, I liked the donut itself more than the glaze - felt like it was more sugary and sweet than the flavor itself. Overall, worth a try, but it was definitely a really long wait for three donuts. We waited for about 40 minutes and had to go up to the counter to ask for our order since we realized some people who came after us already left with their orders. PS - those who want to try and don't want to wait in line for a long time, you can order ahead online, I think! read more

When I first saw this place I ran to the window and drooled. I was so excited to finally have a mochi donut place in the area. I had been stalking those treats on Insta for ages. Today I arrived around noon midweek and the place was fairly busy with customers coming and going. The employees were commenting on the reduced hours since it was not as busy but it seemed bustling when I arrived. I must say though, I did have my doubts once inside. They do not have a menu board for the donuts and tea to the point where I was not even sure they sold tea anymore. They also only had a few of each donut on the board and it appeared like they were almost sold out and there were a few customers in front of me and a whole bunch of customers behind me. Once I got up to the front of the line I saw one plastic fold out menu for the tea. I asked if they had all of the flavors, and they did have plenty in the back. I decided to get the six pack. I got the cookie monster, strawberry, panda, taro, and cookies and cream. I also decided to try their signature milk tea. Once I got my order I sampled a donut before leaving. I tried the cookie monster. It was absolutely delicious! So soft, chewy, and fresh, I could eat all six in one sitting, they are so good. I was actually shocked how yummy it was, a solid donut experience. I was also very delighted by the tea. It was really tasty and refreshing. I do not love tapioca bobas but these are brown sugar ones that are chewy and very flavorful. I am not entirely sure everything stated on the menu was in my tea, but it was pretty amazing. A lot of times milk tea has too much milk and not enough tea flavor, but this seemed to have a great balance. This place is very pricey for what you get though. It was almost $7 for the tea and $15 for only six small donuts. While the taste makes up for the value, it is not a cheap trip over here so I can only imagine how much it cost to get tea plus donuts for the entire family. They also seem to be working out the bugs of running a business. They seemed to have enough people working here but did not seem to be very efficient with their pacing or organization. They also lacked more menus or visuals to have your order, especially the tea order in advanced to move the line along. Overall though I loved the experience and will be back with the rest of the family. It was a great introduction to some trendy treats. read more

Exciting to have a Mochi Dough in the neighborhood! Inside is fun and ready for IG- with order tablets on the wall when walking in This was our first time trying it and grateful to the gentleman behind the counter who upgraded the size of my drink to accommodate all of the toppings ordered- now I know for next time. (If you pick 4, you need a large!) Delicious drinks and if you like mochi, donuts are great. We lived in Japan and even made mochi the old fashioned way a few times- These hit a nostalgic taste for us so we prefer the flavors with no icing/frosting. (Churro) read more

I reviewed (really attempted to review) this place in the past. In the past I accused this place of being a mafia front business because it was never open. I tried multiple times, over several months and nothing. Recently I was in the area for a different business and I thought "let's swing buy the money laundering place". I was shocked to see "customers" going in and out with what looked like "boxes or doughnuts". I decided to go in. I saw products in the counter display. I asked the girls behind the counter to get 6, I was told "you need to order first". Silly me, I thought that's what I was doing by asking for 6 doughnuts. They explained that you order on the wall kiosks, then tell them which exact doughnuts you wanted. I followed the instructions and got a couple cookies and cream, a couple churros, and a couple funnel cakes. They were awesome. I paid $17 after tip and taxes and that was fair for the quality I received. Definitely worth going now that the mafia opened their doors for actually selling products. The parking is free but limited, you may (gasp) have to walk a couple hundred feet, the place is clean and well appointed, the staff is friendly and helpful. Once you get used to it everything runs smoothly. read more

Been here a handful of times over the past two years- such a fan! The drinks are so good, the donuts are some of the best I've ever had, and the interior is adorable, very instagram-able! I typically get a bubble tea, most recently a Brown sugar bubble tea, and would recommend getting 75% sugar for most drinks- they tend to air on the sweet side. The mochi donuts never miss, they typically swap out a few seasonal ones so there's always something new to try! The service has always been great, usually quick even when it's busy! Fantastic little treat! I enjoyed the variety of donuts from Mochi Dough. Each donut was chewy and had a very distinct flavor which left you wanting another little bite. I'd never had kochi doughnuts before, but had been wanting to try them for the longest time, so when I saw this place had moved into the space where a different doughnut shop was once, I was just waiting for a reason to get a dozen. I really liked the texture of the mochi doughnut, it's similar in texture to a cruller, with a slightly chewier feel. And the flavors were really fun. My favorite being the ube, and the black sesame. But the Fruity Pebbles doughnut was a surprise hit as well. I actually enjoyed all the flavors we tried, but those were just my personal picks. They kept remarkably well in the fridge for a couple of days. And we popped one in the microwave for a couple of seconds the next day, and put Van Leeuwen Earl Grey ice cream in the middle, it was super good. The place is very cute inside, and it's kinda cool ordering on the big computer screen kiosks, but you still have to walk up to the counter and pick the variety of doughnuts in person, which is fine by me. read more

I came in a couple days ago. I've been wanting to try this place since they opened. Because it was a Wed. afternoon, they weren't very busy. There were only a few people who came in after me. I can see why having only one kiosk would be problematic during peak hours. They definitely need a few. I also wish that you could order your donuts and then go to pay. I wasn't sure how many I would want and I don't like feeling restricted by the amount I pre-purchased. I would be more likely to purchase more if I had ordered and then gone to pay. I didn't get any drinks due to previous reviewers mentioning that they aren't great. I will try them in the future. As for donuts I got half a dozen: 1 taro- delicious 1 fruity pebbles- very good 1 champagne- too sweet for me (would not get again) 3 pistachio- good, however I wish the pistachios weren't salted. It really ruins the flavor IMO. I thought they'd be fluffier/softer. I'm not sure if they're overpriced. The total was $15ish before tip. They are pretty small and not like traditional donuts. I definitely recommend this place. The decor is really cute and it gives off great vibes. The girls working were also very nice and helpful. I was pretty bummed that they didn't have the rose garden donut, it looks so pretty and yummy. Hopefully they'll have it when I return! read more

I never had a mochi doughnut before and it was about time for me to finally give it a try. When you first walk in you're met with *the* pink Instagram aesthetic. You know, the cute brunch one where it's great for pics but not to eat? But this place was definitely great for both. You have to place an order at the kiosk and wait for your name to be called. I ordered a 6 pack and waited to pick the flavors. Apparently a few flavors switch out every week or so, it's definitely a way to keep people coming back! I chose my doughnuts and the man helping me asked if it was my first visit. I said yes and he went to the back and grabbed me a sample of a plain doughnut and a black sesame doughnut (because who would choose a gray doughnut?). He was extremely friendly and that interaction alone made me want to come back. I tried the plain doughnut. Not too doughy but not like a typical American doughnut. I'd love to grab a bunch to have with my morning coffee! I tried the black sesame, and it was slightly sweet with a light sesame flavor, but was not bad at all! Next time I go back I'll grab one! When I got home, I must admit that I inhaled the taro and lemonade burst doughnuts. They tasted so good, not too sweet but just sweet enough. Overall, a friendly atmosphere, a cute Insta or tik tok photo spot, and delicious doughnuts! I need to come back to try the boba tea! read more
