Their biscuit breakfast sandwich is by far the best breakfast sandwich I've ever had. We've been doing a long weekend at the Hotel Saranac and have gone here for breakfast the last two days (and will probably return for our final breakfast in town as well). Everything we've had - besides the insanely good breakfast biscuit sandwich - has been phenomenal. The cinnamon roll was incredible as was the banana almond toast. Great coffee too! A group of us are camping in the area and decided to check out the local town for rainy day activities. We are a caffeine and coffee loving group and the first stop in Saranac Lake was Origin. The baristas behind the counter were incredibly friendly and personable. They asked where we were from, gave recommendations for local lunch places and were lovely. The menu is adorable, all written out on a chalk board. I got the Herbalicious Definition (my barista even belted a little Fergie while she made it) and my friend got hot chocolate, the rest of the group got coffees. They have soy and almond milk options. What an amazing coffee house in the center of a amazing mountain town. I will have to admit that I am a little biased as I have friends that work here and the owners are very well diverse in the community. Hands down this is place you want to go if you want great coffee/ beverages and or amazing breakfast/lunch items. My fav; bfast burrito, no bacon, with both chimi and hot sauce plus home fries. Always hot and made to order. The out door seating is nice, but be aware you may want some sun screen and sunglasses most of the day. If you choose to sit inside the architecture of the building is unique. 15' ceilings, floor to ceiling front window, and a area I may call a loft offers a variety of seating options. Bread was ok, minimal avocado, it tasted like raw corn and I'm not sure it was cojtia cheese. Expected to love this place and really just sad it was mediocre at best, for the food. What a great addition to Saranac! Went here three times over vacation this past week and the pour-over and latte's were really well done. I really enjoyed this little spot. The interior is modern and bright, in a good way. The service was friendly and prompt. They have an extensive espresso drink menu, but I was feeling indecisive so I just went with a regular hot coffee. It was a seriously good cup of joe. Like really, very good. I was looking for a quick breakfast before my hike up Ampersand. I asked if they had bagels, and they did not on this particular day (he said they do on some days). That was fine, I just needed a good amount of carbs in any shape or form. I opted for the granola and yogurt, which was tasty and presented very cute. Prices were reasonable too. Great coffee shop atmosphere, old wood classic tables, fresh flowers, new violin music with a beat, seating area up six stairs to a balcony that is "in the trees" outside the windows, clean white walls with old coffered ceiling and black metal furnishings and appointments. So far, owner knows the name of everyone who walks in, but the Paul Smiths students are just returning for the academic year. Almost 5 stars: I'd have to agree with so many of the reviews here. Fabulous place! Very hip & has just enough minimal industrial coolness to avoid looking overly trendy. The turn of the century painted bead board walls and ceiling are amazing. LOVE! I wish they'd stay open later ( like 7pm ), because I have seen many a frustrated person mumbling as they drive up or walk up only to find a closed coffee shop at four o'clock in the afternoon ( just about the time when everyone is looking for that little something to get them through 'till dinner ). Even if they closed the kitchen and just served coffee, specialty drinks and teas ~ it would be brilliant. Also when we were there a customer ordered something they were out of ( a green tea if I'm not mistaken ). The gentleman settled on some other kind of tea , but I really believe that the something else should have been "on the house", after-all it was just tea and honestly they should always have all their advertised teas. I hope they stay open later in the summer months ( again - just close the kitchen ). This is a business Saranac Lake needs and people obviously like. Inclusive space except for people with food allergies -- I was in Saranac Lake on business. I got a cold brew coffee which was very good and had packed a lunch with me because I have a severe food allergy that was unable to be accommodated by the kitchen. As I was drinking my coffee and eating my lunch at the cafe before returning to work, I was abruptly approached by the chef who told me that bringing in my food was not allowed and that he would "let it slide this time." I said that I had brought my lunch with me because of having a food allergy. And his response was "I figured as much." It was an insensitive response to someone living with a life threatening food allergy. I would've eaten outside but there were no available tables. I would've understood being asked to leave if I wasn't a patron or there were food options free of top allergens... but that wasn't the case. I was very disappointed with how this situation was handled. Origin Coffee promotes itself to be inclusive but it is not for people living with a major food allergen. It could be inclusive to folx with food allergies by having a food allergy menu and having food options that are free of top allergens and cross contamination. read more
