I usually peruse the pour over menu when I scout out coffee shops because I tend to gravitate toward an African coffee, and they had 3 to choose from during this late summer season. The clean, white interior with beautiful wooden table tops was enough to lure me back. Combine that with a delicious Ethiopian pour over, a very balanced iced black tea and chill indie music playing overhead ... I'm hooked. The friendly barista recommended the peach toast and avocado toast, and I can absolutely see why. They were both incredible! Their biscuit breakfast sandwich is by far the best breakfast sandwich I've ever had. We've been doing a long weekend at the Hotel Saranac and have gone here for breakfast the last two days (and will probably return for our final breakfast in town as well). A group of us are camping in the area and decided to check out the local town for rainy day activities. We are a caffeine and coffee loving group and the first stop in Saranac Lake was Origin. The baristas behind the counter were incredibly friendly and personable. They asked where we were from, gave recommendations for local lunch places and were lovely. The menu is adorable, all written out on a chalk board. I got the Herbalicious Definition (my barista even belted a little Fergie while she made it) and my friend got hot chocolate, the rest of the group got coffees. They have soy and almond milk options. I have a love hate relationship with origin coffee. It IS the best coffee shop in town but there isn't much for competition either. The coffee is okay, the service is good, but they open at 7am(which in my opinion is late for a coffee shop) and even then they aren't even ready for business. The pastries ( once they are out) are hit or miss. Prices are high. The atmosphere is nice and the nook in the back affords a place to hang out and catch up with friends. The owners have definitely put a lot of work into the place. I appreciate what they are trying to do. I would rather give them my money than go to Starbucks, but Starbucks coffee is better, cheaper and open early! read more

Outstanding coffee, service, and menu! We went to Origin while on vacation in the area. We loved our cold brew, maple latte, and cheddar/scallion & egg biscuits so much on our first visit that we planned one of our vacation days around going back! What an amazing coffee house in the center of a amazing mountain town. I will have to admit that I am a little biased as I have friends that work here and the owners are very well diverse in the community. Hands down this is place you want to go if you want great coffee/ beverages and or amazing breakfast/lunch items. My fav; bfast burrito, no bacon, with both chimi and hot sauce plus home fries. Always hot and made to order. The out door seating is nice, but be aware you may want some sun screen and sunglasses most of the day. If you choose to sit inside the architecture of the building is unique. 15' ceilings, floor to ceiling front window, and a area I may call a loft offers a variety of seating options. Bread was ok, minimal avocado, it tasted like raw corn and I'm not sure it was cojtia cheese. Expected to love this place and really just sad it was mediocre at best, for the food. I really enjoyed this little spot. The interior is modern and bright, in a good way. The service was friendly and prompt. They have an extensive espresso drink menu, but I was feeling indecisive so I just went with a regular hot coffee. It was a seriously good cup of joe. Like really, very good. I was looking for a quick breakfast before my hike up Ampersand. I asked if they had bagels, and they did not on this particular day (he said they do on some days). That was fine, I just needed a good amount of carbs in any shape or form. I opted for the granola and yogurt, which was tasty and presented very cute. Prices were reasonable too. Almost 5 stars: I'd have to agree with so many of the reviews here. Fabulous place! Very hip & has just enough minimal industrial coolness to avoid looking overly trendy. The turn of the century painted bead board walls and ceiling are amazing. LOVE! I wish they'd stay open later ( like 7pm ), because I have seen many a frustrated person mumbling as they drive up or walk up only to find a closed coffee shop at four o'clock in the afternoon ( just about the time when everyone is looking for that little something to get them through 'till dinner ). Even if they closed the kitchen and just served coffee, specialty drinks and teas ~ it would be brilliant. Also when we were there a customer ordered something they were out of ( a green tea if I'm not mistaken ). The gentleman settled on some other kind of tea , but I really believe that the something else should have been "on the house", after-all it was just tea and honestly they should always have all their advertised teas. I hope they stay open later in the summer months ( again - just close the kitchen ). This is a business Saranac Lake needs and people obviously like.
