The service was really good, our waitress was very attentive, and the view was gorgeous. We were seated quickly for a late lunch of 4. The outdoor seating has a perfect view of Mirror Lake. We ordered half a bottle of wine and split in between two of us; the wine was crisp and paired well with the food. I got the panzarella shrimp salad (mainly because I had received a recommendation on the salads here.) The shrimp was cooked to perfection but the greens were not substantial. My sister got the goat cheese bacon and pepper flatbread, which was good but nothing amazing. Our other friend got the chicken salad sandwich which was a generous portion. You're definitely paying for the view and the service, would recommend getting appetizers to share if you're truly hungry along with your main. For a light lunch, it served us well. read more

Cutest spot! Came here for lunch and was not disappointed! The service was so quick and our waitress was very welcoming. The interior has such a fun ski town vibe and being right on the lake made it so easy to go on a post lunch walk as well as enjoy the view! We didn't sit in one of the lifts but the experience was still just as fun. The chili was great and we both got the Christine sandwich which was super popular and delicious. We took a day trip to Lake Placid and after filtering through the Yelp reviews, I arrived at The Cottage for lunch. Primarily based on the location and views for the restaurant. We weren't expecting much on the food, given the mixed reviews. However, we were pleasantly surprised. I went with the Ponzu Chicken Tacos and they were flavorful and delicious. My husband ordered the BBQ Pulled Pork sandwich, which he enjoyed. The interior is small and cozy and the amazing views of Mirror Lake instantly make your food taste better. The outdoor seating option is really nice, but on the stifling day we visited, we chose to sit inside. The menu has plenty of options, so each person in our party of 6 found something they liked. Such a delightful place! Sat outside on the deck over Mirror lake. I had an open faced Reuben with Cole slaw and chips. Delicious and the coleslaw added a bit more zip. Not sure Icy, though.My friends had the pulled pork. Delish. It does have a bit spicy sauce on it, if you didn't want that, ask for it on the side. Our waitress was so pleasant. I have been visiting The Cottage for several years, and it is a must stop whenever I am in Lake Placid. The inside is cozy and has fantastic views of mirror lake. They offer great beer and wine lists as well as a nice variety of cocktails. The food is good as well, with plenty of options to suit what you're looking for. Two standouts from my recent visit were the Warm Brussels Sprout Salad and the Mushroom Soup. If their soup of the day is Chicken Poblano, I'd highly recommend it. On my most recent visit, we were thrilled to find that their outdoor gondolas were heated and dog friendly. Each gondola has climate control and music playing, and the waitstaff will come out to your gondola. I'd add an extra star for this if I could! read more

I had the chicken apricot salad sandwich and one of my colleagues had the same chicken salad on actual salad to bypass the bread. I was like... "Bring on the bread!" Another colleague had a bowl of chili and others at the table had pizza, nachos with chili, and a hummus/pita appetizer. It's really about the location,, views and atmosphere. Horrible service and expensive for mediocre food. while at the bar, the bartender ignored us I never got a drink so I gave up after 15 minutes. Our server checked on us once so drinks ran out, when I asked to bring my check after we said we were leaving it took forever saw her cleaning tables, going in the kitchen everywhere but to get my check. Food, service ambience was great. My wife had the "Cobbler" sandwich. I had the Chili Bowl. Both were excellent. For the Cobble Hill it was fresh roasted large slices of turkey. It is not an itemized surcharge- rather I realized that every single item was 3-4$ more than the menu. This Seems like a greedy and non transparent surcharge, especially compounding at the per item level. Wait staff said this is something they do for to-go. Again. This is one of many examples of the bizarrely mediocre restaurant scene in Lake Placid. What the area boasts in stunning beauty and charm it completely lacks in quality of food. In a small town with very little competition, I imagine they see the tourists with limited options to whom they can serve miserable food. It seems like they aren't even trying. After all, most guests are too distracted by the gorgeous lake view from the Cottage's patio to care. I've had a lot of charcuterie boards around the world, but this is easily the worst. Uninspired discount meats and cheeses likely obtained from some mediocre grocery store are served with sad crackers at an exorbitant price. The one redeeming characteristic at the Cottage is that some members of our party had very good salads. Several of us had sandwiches featuring a decent pesto (possibly house-made) on a okay bun, but with an atrociously overcooked, chewy chicken breast hardened by a nearly inedible crust. It was unbearable. And even though lemon pepper aioli was not mentioned in the menu description, I'm pretty sure the sandwich had a gallon of low quality mayo on it, which made it even harder to eat. This is not a place to dine while visiting Lake Placid unless you're only doing salads. read more

Came back for a visit after a 40 year hiatus. I am sure it's not the same ownership and the decor has changed but the epic view is as spectacular as I remembered. I only had time for a cocktail unfortunately. The exterior is still as quaint as ever. I noticed 2 gondolas in the patio area that can be rented/reserved . Very cute idea. Lots of outdoor seating for when the weather improves. Drink menu lacked imagination and inspiration for the prices they are charging. I was very disappointed in my selection. Ambiance is not as romantic and intimate as it use to be. Now more of a sports and outdoorsy theme. None of it blended or flowed. Sometimes great experiences need to be left to the memories. Can't complain at all with a dinner, a view, and good food. It might have been the intense all day hike but this meal is the most delicious one out of my stay in the area. Not a big menu, but that must mean all their food should be good right?! Our two entrees were both hits! For apps we got the shrimp cocktail. The sauce had a hint of wasabi taste to me. The two mains we got the spicy black bean veggie burger and the pulled pork on a pretzel bun. Both burgers were delicious. I inhaled that. I would definitely recommend the pulled pork burger. The flavor, texture, and breading goes so well. You get a side of chips and a pickle with both. Lastly for dessert, I went with the white and chocolate mousse cake. Nothing to rave home about. Maybe if they top it with icecream I would have spiraled into sweetness overload. It was still a good dessert. If you're not a big fan of too sweet desserts, you may not be able to finish it. Also what is the deal with all restaurants in the area being closed Monday, Tuesday and sometimes Wednesday? Then opening late evening or closing early? Had a really lovely post-massage lunch here during our recent visit to Lake Placid! It checked every post-spa box you can think of. Delicious white wine (I went with a Sauv Blanc from New Zealand), yummy sandwiches, fun seating options both outdoors and indoors, great views, and kind staff. I went with the apricot chicken salad sandwich, which was absolutely delightful. It came out crazy fast, as they weren't terribly busy the day I came by. I love fun spins on classics and the almonds and apricot in this chicken salad added some fun flare to an already awesome sandwich. I sat at the bar as I was dining solo and enjoyed chatting with the bartender and wait staff. Prices are a little on the high side, but nothing too unexpected for resort-attached dining. Place is nice but the bartender is unpleasant. Passed my wife and I over for 20 minutes at the bar for a drink and then when finally serving us begrudgingly poured an aperol spritz in a small glass. What a find !!! The cottage is a cozy & casual dinning setting with seating indoors and out, as well as at the bar. Try to get one of the outdoor seating and enjoy mirror lake. The Ruben was a delicious open faced sandwich with a traditional Cole slaw topping, served with chips and a pickle ($16.75). Pizza #2 a crispy Flatbread pizza ($14.75) topped with artichokes, chicken, sundries tomato and mozzarella, with a drizzle of balsamic. Totally yummy, but if your hungry this may not completely satisfy. Would I order again ? Heck yes ! But maybe as an appetizer. I can't wait to return, and try their Bbq pulled pork sandwich. This is our third time to Lake Placid since Covid began. We always walked or drove by The Cottage thinking that it was a super expensive restaurant and super fancy. Boy were we wrong! It is part of the hotel but it's more like a casual pub inside. We had a delicious, affordable dinner here right on Mirror Lake. The service was friendly and food was good. I had the Thai Chicken sandwich and my hubs had the reuben. Everything tasted fresh. This is their 46th year in business!!! I can see why. We will definitely be back! Thank you! read more

After seeing the website and the menu, this restaurant wasn't what I expected walking on. It's definitely got more of a beach bar vibe than a lakeside restaurant. That didn't bother me since we got a table by the window. We went for a late lunch, around 3. The menu looked great so we were excited to order. We'd eaten at The View for breakfast so were expecting similar food and service. Service was incredibly slow. That wasn't the main issue though. My mom ordered a soup and flatbread pizza. They were average at best. I ordered the roast beef sandwich, which sounded like an au jus with beef, cheese, mushroom, onion, and horseradish. The Brie had the rind on and it overtook the sandwich completely. I tried removing the cheese but the beef was dried out and had some green spots on it. The bread was also stale. I picked through the sandwich and ate about 1/4 the bread before I noticed the green spots on the meat. We had to ask another server to find ours since we waited about 10 minutes and didn't see her. She said, "Well I wish you told me sooner since it seems you've eaten most of it". How embarrassing and untrue! Plus, even if I'd had a single bite left and noticed green spots in the meat, it would be valid to complain. She told me the beef is supposed to be that way since it's grilled or cooked in the morning then reheated when ordered. Charging $20 for reheated deli style meat is ridiculous to start with, not to mention unappetizing. She was still going to charge us for it and we asked the charge to be removed. Apparently she was the manager as well, and grumpily grabbed the check back to adjust the total. This literally left an unpleasant taste in my mouth after spending a gorgeous day enjoying the town and fall scenery. I'd avoid eating here. Sadly, it seems to be one of the better rated places which doesn't give me much hope for my next visit. read more

This lovely place next to the water had charm, efficiency, and quality plain food. We sat under red umbrellas lakeside, dined on the turkey sandwich and chips, and enjoyed the sunshine. The sandwiches had carved meat, not processed, generous slices of cheddar, and thin apple slices. The Mayo had just a hint of cranberry. Delicious and nicely portioned. The Cottage has always been there when we've needed it most. It's a marvel that I haven't reviewed it yet, but I first visited the Cottage decades ago -- probably before Yelp was even a germ of an idea -- so it hadn't crossed my mind until my family ate here a few nights ago. The Cottage is the casual counterpart to Mirror Lake Inn's The View, not buttoned-up or button down, boasting lakeside and mountain views and a warm atmosphere. The libations and food are reasonably priced and it's one of several family friendly spots in town. You may not be wowed by what you order here but pretty much everything is reliably solid. I leave happy and satisfied every time, and that's saying a lot for a place I've eaten at more times than I can count. My family first started eating at the Cottage when we would stay in Mirror Lake Inn during the winter, enjoying the cozy vibes indoors. Now, in this new COVID world we live in, we're only comfortable eating outdoors. The Cottage is quite possibly the most equipped restaurant in town when it comes to allotted space for outdoor dining. Plenty of tables on either side of the indoor portion of the restaurant, all spaced out at a reasonable amount. On Friday we came as a party of six, and while we did need to get on the waitlist, they were able to seat us in about 40 minutes (which we planned for). It's an odd experience eating here as an almost-30-something, because I don't remember the entire waitstaff sitting at an average age of 15. But over the years we've mostly dined here during the winter, and in August there are probably lots of kids working summer jobs. In either case, aging is real and surreal. Regardless of my own Peter Pan syndrome, everyone who works here is kind, generous and helpful. While I've probably tried 10-20 different things here over the years, I'll just review what we tried during our most recent meal, as it reflects the most updated menu. The drink menu is varied, with lots of refreshing cocktail options and a great list of beers. I went with the Mango Basil Lemonade (bourbon-based), which was super tasty and hit the spot. Reviews of the Strawberry Mint Smash were also positive. Food-wise, the Cottage is mainly a sandwiches and pizzas-type of joint, with a lot of traditional appetizers like dips and cheeses. Each couple in our pod of six split an app and ordered two mains, which worked out well for everyone. My fiancé and I split the Warm Brussels Sprouts Salad (w/ Applewood smoked bacon, crisp apple, toasted pecans tossed in a white balsamic caper vinaigrette), which was fantastic. Definitely not the healthiest of salads and perhaps a bit better for a winter evening but I will go for just about any brussels preparation out there and this one was great. For my main, I got the Ahi Tuna Salad w/ Greens, seaweed salad, heirloom cherry tomatoes, pickled onions, and seared Ahi tuna and ponzu sauce, which was decent. Didn't thrill me but I wasn't expecting to be thrilled, so it wasn't disappointing. For what its worth, the folks who ordered pizzas liked them and one person inhaled/raved about an order of the Short Rib Tacos. Everyone can find at least one thing enjoyable about the Cottage, even if it's just the views. It has proven to be on the scale of good to great over many years, which is an impressive feat. The Cottage caters to the family-friendly nature of Lake Placid as a vacation destination, so I'm not surprised it has maintained a great reputation and prime real estate for so long! read more
