While on vacation near Lake Placid, staying about seven minutes up Route 9N, we casually heard about Ice Jam Inn--a local restaurant with a talented young chef and exceptional food. After a long day of hiking and kayaking, we were starving and decided to give it a try. From the outside, the restaurant looks quaint and unassuming, so we weren't quite sure what to expect. We also didn't have reservations, but they were able to seat us outside, which worked out perfectly. Our waitress was fantastic--friendly, attentive, and welcoming. The food was even better than we had hoped. Every single bite was incredible! I ordered the fish and chips, my daughters had the chicken sandwiches, and my husband chose the chicken club sandwich. We also started with the fried pretzels and karaage chicken bites, and both appetizers were absolutely delicious. Everything we ordered was fresh, flavorful, and clearly prepared with care. We visit Lake Placid every summer, and this will definitely be our new go-to spot. Highly recommend stopping in after a day of exploring the Adirondacks--quality food all around. Bravo! read more

The food is always outstanding, and the service is welcoming and warm - Our server Sherry remembered us from our last time 8 months ago! The specials are always great! Reservations are necessary because they fill up fast, and it's a very small, cozy restaurant area! The atmosphere is wonderful. The food, service, and ambiance were all wonderful. We all enjoyed our appetizers and main course. Always love the idea of coffee and dessert but typically too full to enjoy. We started with the potstickers appetizer special as well as an Asian chicken appetizer. I got the ravioli with vodka sauce, my husband got the halibut special, my son got the Boss Hog burger. Went here for the first time and would definitely go back. Had 6:15 reservations. Inside was cozy, warm oak paneling on walls and more wood on ceiling. Ceiling had sound absorption tiles on them which seemed to work because even though the place was full it wasn't noisy and we could hear each other talk. Service was excellent. We ate here before going to the show at the Recovery Lounge down the street. This is a great place far from any city. The staff are wonderful and the food is as well the soup special, mushroom is the best soup I have ever enjoyed. The rest of the meal was excellent. I didn't have the special but after I learned from a local the special is usually outstanding. This isn't perfect, I don't think the Formica tables suit the rustic ambiance or the views of the Ausable River. This is clearly a locally owned place run by people who don't have tons of money to make it pretty. But it's so good. Try it. read more

Everything was great! My bestie and I ordered the soup of the day and spring rolls as well as two orders of musscles . The enclosed porch outside was perfect for a nice, warm spring day, and there weren't too many bugs. My only complaint is that, even though we had purchased multiple dishes and ordered wine (the cost adding up to $100 between both of us) the server had manipulated us into ordering extra bread. "It's a common request" she had said without telling us it would cost extra. There was no need to swindle an extra $8 off of us, just simply tell us it is an extra charge. First visit so we only tried a few things. Service was tip-top and the Inn is both lovely inside and out. Plenty of parking. We both ordered the pork schnitzel. I've never had schnitzel that crunchy. Wasn't bad - just different. I wouldn't order it again. The apple slaw was also different, too different, and like another reviewer I would have preferred the potato salad to be warm. Brussels sprouts were fine. Also, really surprised the meals were delivered in about 5 minutes. How? We ordered a bread pudding to go. Also different enough that I wouldn't order it again. Stayed on the Adirondack's for a week and tried most of the restaurants in the Jay / Keene / Wilmington areas. Ice Jam was probably the best meal we had (a cut above Hungry Trout and others). A friend and I stayed at the Ice Jam for a night before heading up to a retreat on Saranac Lake. It's adorable. We booked a room with two twin beds which was perfect. I love that this is an option. The beds were pretty old and not the most comfortable, they could absolutely use an update. I was a little worried about the shared bathroom but it ended up being fine. We ate in the restaurant and my only real wish is that the menu had more options - the food was delicious! The tables and chairs were a bit shabby and didn't fit the mountain inn vibe but that's ok. The only real downside is that because this is booked via AirBnb, it's very hands off. Check yourself in with a code, keys in the doors and you take it when you arrive, etc. Totally fine, but this place is so cute, a more Inn feel would be great! My expectations were shattered last night after my dinner at the Ice Jam Inn in Upper Jay, NY, what a surprise to eat a meal in our neck of the woods that rivals any restaurant in the ADK! I don't say this lightly as many of you know. We started with Chef's homemade seafood chowder that was luxuriously creamy, great mouth feel, full of fresh haddock, clams, crab and shrimp. It was dressed with bacon, perfectly cooked potatoes ( not mush ) and perfectly prepped chives. This cover was well balanced which made it a delight to eat. It does come with sourdough points to swipe the bowl clean! I used my spoon! The Beet salad was freshly made with a wonderfully dressed French curry vinaigrette that was simply perfect, along with the candied maple walnuts, and goat cheese. I could of eaten that all night long !!!! As the meal progressed, we ordered the Belgium Moules Frite , the Fish and Chips and the Pork Schnitzel. Let's talk PEI mussels, this is great bistro cover, perfectly cooked with just the right amount of garlic shallots leeks and wine another well balanced cover but what made this dish stand out from others was the added hit of Belgium beer!!!! It arrives with the signature waffle fries which is nice but not needed, as the bowl is overflowing. The Fish and Chips came to the table with a light, crispy, seasoned, perfect portion of haddock, that were moist inside, super fresh with home made tartar sauce. This was clearly an example of Chef Zack's attention to detail. The Pork Schnitzel was crispy not greasy at all and slightly over cooked ( being a bit picky here, as my mother-in-law is German and well it's hard to nail it for her palate ) but once again we'll seasoned along with the accompaniment of local apple kraut ( yum! ), cider brussel sprouts, and German potato salad,. Although we were full we were tempted with the pretzel dough dessert special and we devoured them all up. The property is warm and inviting, noise level is nicely dampened, service was friendly, and attentive. Plenty of parking, children friendly, and a good bar menu. I had visited this property during the soft opening and felt it needed some time to get in sa good groove along with the craziness of Covid. After this visit I'm happy to report that strong sense of the chef's philosophy along with his back of the house staff is shinning through each plate going through the pass! What a gem! The Inn also run a BNB fyi. If you are in the area and cannot find a place to eat in lake placid take a 20 minute ride and be blown away by The Ice Jam Inn !! read more

Very pleasantly surprised! Following a hard day hike in the high peaks we were famished. After two bad experiences in Lake Placid we wanted something different. A Yelp review caught our eye so we thought we'd try this place. Basically, whatever your dining checklist items are: food, service, ambiance...for us all checked high. Even without a reservation the hostess made sure we were comfortable on the porch with flavorful sun tea while we waited on our table. After eating here twice as a couple, we recently booked the Ice Jam Inn Restaurant for a small wedding reception of 17 people. We worked with Chef Zack to plan a menu that included a charcuterie board to start, family style appetizers for the table, plated salad and entree and family style desserts. Every bit of the meal was perfectly executed and the service was impeccable. You can see the attention to detail in everything that this team does. The farm to table ingredients are perfectly prepared by the kitchen staff. The service team's timing and attentiveness was exceptional. Chef Zack has an obvious penchant for bringing out the best in high quality ingredients, highlighting their natural flavors while elevating the dishes with creative combinations and excellent plating. My husband and I need to be in Ausable Forks for business overnight and a colleague recommended we reserve a room at the Ice Jam Inn. It's an AirBnB so I made our online reservation and did self check in. First floor is a shared common room with a table for four and soft comfortable chairs plus a kitchenette with refrigerator, sink, coffee, etc. That room has a staircase that goes up to the rooms on the Second floor. The other first floor room has a pool table and old maps and old photos of the inn. Most of the theme is old unfinished beadboard, we thought it was ADK charming. We stayed in the private queen room with the en-suite private bath. The private bath has a claw foot tub that has a shower. Lots of towels provided and linens were fresh and soft. The other rooms upstairs (4 I think) were well appointed and those rooms have a shared hallway bath. There was a room with bunk beds, one with twin beds, and I think two rooms had queen beds. Enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay again. It's right across the active road from the Ausable River. read more
