Wish I could have tried the food tonight. We have eaten here previously and it's your standard burger/sandwhich grill sit down place. However, tonight we were planning on having dinner here & all signs pointed to it being open. Apple Maps had their hours as open. We drive all the way into town, to find the lights off and doors locked at 5pm. No sign on the door. Much to our dismay we looked at their Facebook page "closed for wedding". We were there a couple of weeks ago with a party of 8 people. It's a nice place with a wide open dining room. We liked that because it was not too crazy noisy like some other places. The burgers were really good. Excellent chicken too. The salmon burger was good. Fries were great. Service was very good. The only thing that will stop us from going back, unfortunately, is that there is no gluten free option on the menu. No gluten free roll for the burgers. My husband and daughter had to have a Caesar salad without croutons. That was their only choice, according to the menu and the waiter. Very disappointed that we can't go again. read more

My first experience was great. The food was good, I got my next beer just before finished my first, I didn't have to wait for my bill, and the tender was friendly and engaged in conversation. However, my second experienced completely killed any possibility of coming back. Having a different tender this time, this person actively talked badly about its customers and their known family and associated friends in which they had a past with and had known or heard about, sharing stories, and complained about their job and their time being spent there. I watched this repetitive behavior over the course of having 1 meal. If their is anything that you can take away from this, you should work on promoting a more friendly environment where someone can come in, not be judged and talked about by the bartender serving them, not have to hear them talking negatively about associates of the customers friends and family, and not have to hear their bickering on how they dislike their time being spent their and at their job. Food was ok for the price, there are better and cheaper options in town. My main issue was the swearing and I don't want to hear the bartender letting the other bartender know that they're going to "smoke a cig", then proceed to come back and smell like cigarettes as we eat. Overall I may be back because it's easy and accessible, but will not sit anywhere near the bar so I don't hear the waitresses gossip and swear. In from out-of-town, we headed to the DownHill Grill to watch the NCAA National Championship hockey game (Union vs. UMN). We sat and were served at the bar. At our waitress's recommendation, we had the chicken fire crackers and the lobster and cheese dip along with a couple of beers. Several beers on tap including a couple of seasonal and some regional brews. I can't really tell you too much about the cheese dip because the chicken fire crackers were so phenomenal. I briefly considered getting a second order. In general, I don't like spicy. The chicken firecrackers are spicy... but not in the "burn your tastebuds off" kind of way. These are spicy-FLAVORFUL, baked for the perfect amount of tenderness, and complimented beautifully by a side of buttermilk ranch. (Garden ranch for dipping is a pet-peeve of mine... but I digress.) We noticed, while we were there, that they have takeout. We also chatted with lots of regulars who, in spite of our being the only Golden Gopher fans in the joint, were very friendly and good-natured. The restrooms were super clean and large. If wheel-chair accessibility is a need for you, I think that the size, layout, and door frames would accommodate you really well. Four of us were in town on the night before a backpacking trip into the high peaks. The host at our motel suggested this place over many of the others, so we took the six minute walk downhill to the grill. The four of us all had the special: brisket with mashed potatoes and green beans. Giving this place three stars is tough, and it's only due to the inconsistency of their staff. The atmosphere is fantastic, with sparse lighting and an interesting decor that speaks to the history and culture of the local area. The bar is quiet most of the time, a welcome change from the more youthful exuberance of other bars in the area. The food is well worth the moderate pricing. I've tried a variety of dishes and can only really complain about the seafood, which is hardly worth mentioning as any seafood in the area is going to be hit or miss considering the location. The real problem, and only problem, is that the service is inconsistent. One visit you can be sat waited on and served within a half hour. Other times you'll wait twice as long (or longer). This doesn't seem to be due to the amount of people there to eat as it does who is working at the time. So if you don't mind the potential wait, I'd definitely recommend The Downhill Grill for it's satisfying and well proportioned food, value and a relaxing atmosphere for a meal and/or a drink. read more

This spot was perfect. My family and I were looking for a relaxed healthy meal after a long day. We showed up minutes before they closed the kitchen but everyone was super friendly and just barely let us slip in. Loved the interior and quick seating- order taken at the bar (no seats at tables were left, but no problem as it was just me and I was ordering take out). Got the chicken chimichanga and poutine. I think the fry oil must have been not at hot enough temp, as both were loaded with grease and not a good consistency. The poutine looked like the fries had been fried..then forgotten about and re-fried. I could not eat them- they were so gross looking and greasy...and it's *hard* to screw up poutine to the point where someone who was ravenous like I was wouldn't eat them. The portion was huge, and I'm sure if the fry oil issue hasn't been there, both dishes would have been yummy.
