Avoid at all cost!!!!!! We waited over an hour and a half for our food. It came out dried out and burnt on hot plates that had clearly spent some time under a heat lamp. The food was inedible. We asked, repeatedly, to speak with the manager. Never saw them. It was pretty obvious they were refusing to come out and speak with us. Different people were sent to see what was "happening at our table". At no point did anyone apologize for wasting two hours of our time. Everyone went home hungry. Melted the cheese in the microwave for 30 seconds. Beef barbaco was gross, refried beans tasted like a metal can. I've been going to casa del so for many years, even through the change of owners/management and for many years it was great. I have to say that tonight's experience was horrible. First of all they have a young girl working who's a**cheeks were hanging out of her denim shorts and I found that to be completely inappropriate. I understand you expect that at Hooters, but not at casa del sol. Second of all, my husband ordered carne asada. Mind you, my husband is Hispanic and grew up in TX so he knows his carne asada. What they served him appeared to be two slices of a round roast. He asked our waitress if she could find out what kind of steak that was and she came back and said "she asked the cook what cut of steak it was and he said steak". It was extremely tough and very unappetizing. Third of all, our waitress was very non-attentive. I get that under circumstances where the restaurant might have been very busy but it was not. Reopened under new management this Spring 2026. Nothing like the old Casa Del Sol that was consistently excellent, in their food and drinks. I ordered a baked Shrimp Chimichanga with no onions. It wasn't baked. Not cooked. There were 3 shrimp in it. LOADS of onions, inside and out. Very little sour cream. Tons of stringy cheese? lettuce and chopped tomato for camouflage. This used to be a favorite place for locals and very crowded. No more. Two bar patrons were actually screaming at each other in an attempt at conversation. We complained. They moved our table. Didn't help. They should have cut the two guys off and asked them to leave. Very disturbing and ruined our dinner. Waitress was lovely but not did not check in often enough. Was not busy at all. Very bad experience in this restaurant. I ordered the tacos but without meat. The waitress suggested beans and rice instead of meat, but the tacos would also include the lettuce, tomatoes and onions. There was a choice between soft and crisp tacos-- but they only had the soft ones. What did I get? 3 soft tacos with nothing but globs of re-fried beans mixed with rice. No lettuce, tomatoes, or onions. I told the waitress this was not what I'd ordered, and she did not make it good or bring me something else. She said she could bring me some lettuce and tomatoes but "It would take a long time because the kitchen was really busy". Since we'd already waited a long time for our orders, I knew we wouldn't be able to wait a long time for lettuce and tomatoes. So I tried to eat the sickening globs of beans and rice, but I couldn't eat it. I paid full price for this but I didn't actually get anything to eat that night. The waitress didn't make any effort to make it right or bring me something else quickly. I would have been fine with soup, salad, or anything. On top of this, the bill came with 2 prices--one for cash, and a higher price for credit card, so they are penalizing you for using a credit card, and passing the credit card processing fee to you, the customer. This goes against their agreement with the credit card companies. I will report them for this. read more

Restaurant Review - Casa Del Sol After nearly 50 years of loyal patronage, tonight's experience at Casa Del Sol was one of the most frustrating and unacceptable dining experiences I've ever had. As someone who has lived in the Village of Saranac Lake my entire life and worked in the restaurant industry since 1980, I understand that mistakes happen--but what occurred tonight was a complete failure of management. Our party of five was seated immediately. Three meals arrived after about 40 minutes, but my wife's meal and mine never came. We waited while tables seated after us ordered, ate, and left. Our waitress was apologetic, kept checking, and even offered complimentary drinks. She did everything she could. After 2 1/2 hours, we finally left hungry and went somewhere else to eat. I still tipped the waitress because this wasn't her fault. The most disappointing part was management. The owner remained in the kitchen, never came out to acknowledge the problem, apologize, or try to make things right. After supporting this restaurant for nearly 50 years, it's sad to see what appears to be a complete breakdown in ownership and management. read more

Overall, the experience was not worth the price! I got a chimichanga which was $17. It came with nothing. Just a singular chimichanga for $17. I got a side of rice and guac! The rice was crunch and $4 extra. The guac was $2 and in a super tiny container. I paid extra for sides and left hungry. No endless chips and salsa. Each were an extra $2. My glass of water also had white particles floating on the bottom. My husband got a burrito that only had meat and cheese in it and again$16 and it came with nothing sides. The burrito was covered in "burrito sauce". It was a wet mess of huge chunks of tomatoes and onions. It made the burrito so wet it fell apart. My server was very nice. But she never asked or brought refills on anything. We are on the outside deck and the chairs are narrow and metal; making them uncomfortable. Mexican food in Saranac Lake? Who knew? My friends did/do! They live there. So, they took me out to dinner to the only Mexican spot in town. Get there early-everyone goes there. It's a festive, loud environment with a hometown vibe since everyone seems to know each other...plus a mix of north country tourists. I had three different soft tacos and a margarita that kicked my butt. Complimentary chips and salsa were very good and the kids working there were great. Fun spot for sure. read more

Great choice for a delicious Mexican dinner in Saranac Lake! I had a great experience and meal here. They serve you one serving of chips and salsa and if you want another serving it will cost $4. Their elote appetizer was delicious and very filling 5/5 (it was only mild to medium spice with the jalapeños)! Their tacos were also very delicious especially their market fish tacos. Their other tacos were good but a tad dry so make sure to get some sour cream or salsa on the side. Overall a great meal, great service and a clean restaurant. Will be coming back soon! read more

We stopped in for dinner with the family. The service was decently quick,especially since I think 1 guy was serving most of the restaurant. The prices were very high for what you got. We ordered shrimp fajitas and we got legit 5 shrimp and a 1/4 cup of rice for $22.50. The steak fajitas had a bit more meat, but it was covered in some weird spicy sauce. We got 2 plain quesadillas for the picky eaters and they were burnt black on 1 side. And my margarita was not great. We paid extra for more chips and they were completely stale. What a find! This is a busy, casual place with great margaritas and satisfying Mexican comfort food. Service is friendly and attentive but does not hurry diners through the meal. We love Casa del Sol and come regularly throughout the summer but our server Naomi was below sub par. No smile, no helpful accommodations, looked annoyed we even wanted to eat there, didn't refill our drinks, check on us or help us with our choices. The food was great, it always is. Really good enchiladas, chimichangas and shrimp dish. The slaw had no flavor and the chips are not good like they used to be. I was really excited to try this place, especially when I drove past it for 2 days and saw that it was packed. while staying in Lake Placid with a group of 10, we decided that we were too tired to dine in so we decided to take out. We were a group of 10 and had ordered 11 items. The wait time wasn't too bad. When we got inside to pick up our food we noticed that they were quite busy so we did have to wait a bit. but that's okay. The price point for the items was good for dine-in but there wasn't a good value for money when we did take out. Our bill was around $180 and it definitely was not worth it. I wouldn't recommend getting take out from here, especially if you live 10 to 15 minutes away. The food was pretty cold when we got it and it did not taste that great. While we didn't expect it to be authentic Mexican, we noticed that a lot of the items had melted cheese on them and that really did not travel well, especially when we were eating out of takeout containers. We couldn't really heat them up So we were kind of just eating cold, melted cheese. A lot of our items were also pretty soggy and sauces and substitutions were definitely forgotten. We had ordered a Tres Amigos platter and requested that the meat be altered to be all chicken in the three enchiladas. When we open them up and tasted them they did not listen and they served it to us as it is originally given which is the beef, beans and chicken. Unfortunately for us it was too late and the people and the person who ordered it did not eat beef so they didn't have the best experience. Another person ordered a chicken burrito and asked for only onions and lettuce as well as burrito sauce to be inside the burrito and the restaurant completely forgot. they did not add any toppings or sauces at all. It was simply just chicken. I was hoping that some items would actually taste good, like a salsa or pico de gallo, but they honestly looked really sad and unappetizing. Overall, I didn't have high expectations for a Mexican restaurant in a small town, but I was hoping that the food would at least taste decent. I definitely will not be coming back here nor would I recommend getting take out from here. If you have a craving for Mexican food, this might be worth trying, but only for dine-in. read more

The place looked busy on Saturday evening so we decided to ignore the ratings on yelp to go there for dinner. The front staff was not the most friendliest ; I'm willing to overlook that. We were told the only tables available were on the patio and that they'd need to be cleared. I pegged that to be 5 min wait time tops....After what seemed like ages we were finally seated but the table was wet and smelled like used wet rag. I asked the staff who seated us to please dry the table and she seemed annoyed and did a cursory job at best. At this point I'd formed my opinion of her as rude. The house made salsas and hot sauces were delicious and appropriately spicy! The bartender was very nice and efficient. The only suggestion I'd make is to add Micheladas to the drink menu. The Michelada is a super tasty classic Mexican beer cocktail that's sort've like a Bloody Mary. read more

It bugged me all night but I survived. I had enchiladas with chorizo and the shredded. Red. The plate was nice and hot. The might have been s tad more stuffed. The chorizo was spicy as suggested. Yum! The food here is good. As a Californian, I'm pretty picky about my Mexican food. So no, it's not the best I've ever had but it's definitely worth a visit. The service is impeccable and the staff knows the menu, which is important if you are like me and have food allergies. They are also more than willing to accommodate preferences and allergies and alter dishes to suit your needs. Gluten free, dairy free and vegan options are available at this restaurant. If we visit Saranac Lake again we'll definitely return and if we lived here, we'd be regulars. read more

The guacamole chips and salsa is a perfect starter to your meal while you sip on one of their many flavored margaritas. Try it skinny if you're watching your calories still just as delicious. Had dinner here on Friday night based on a recommendation from our Airbnb host. It was very busy but didnt take too long to get an outdoor table. We ordered margaritas from the outdoor bar while we waited. Our waitress was great. Very friendly and attentive. The margaritas were good as well. We had a few too many :). However...the food was honestly some of the worst Mexican food we have ever had. It seemed to be a theme for our weekend...over priced dinners that under delivered. I ordered the huevos rancheros and Im honestly not sure what I was served. It was basicly a big sloppy bowl of lettuce with some beans and eggs mixed in.
