Service was good. They had a 20 minute wait to be seated, and called when the table was ready. The ambiance in the back was light and more modern. There were a few booths as well as table and bar seating. The food was good. We ordered a vegetarian wild grain bowl, salmon and potatoes, and the truffle mac and cheese. My son's birthday celebration was absolutely amazing here....from service to food to ambiance! Cocktails were made beautifully and the cornbread with sweet butter was so nice. The Crispy Brussel Sprouts were very crispy with maple glaze and served with a Vidalia aioli. the Mac and cheese tortellini was warm and gooey and full of flavor. The smoked trout was declared excellent and everything but the bones were devoured. The salmon was perfectly cooked and the corn pudding was sweet and delicious. We stayed at the hotel and decided to try breakfast. I did the hunter's breakfast (I think that is what the call it), and plain bagel with egg, ham and cheese on it. The potatoes were really good too. Good service and a nice feel to this very well kept facility. read more

So it's my last night in Saranac Lake as I've been here for the last four days and the food in town has been mediocre at best. On a whim I decided to go to the Saranac hotel to eat in their restaurant which goes against all of my culinary experiences as typically hotel dining sucks. But to my surprise, I was thrilled to have an amazing dinner at this restaurant, don't be fooled by their ratings as this is a keeper if you're in Saranac Lake, I had the ribeye steak , marinated carrots and potatoes which were cooked to perfection. Thanks to the new chef, Christine who they hired six months It was a quiet night, so I sat at the bar and the bartender, Danna was kind enough to keep me company and we had a lovely conversation during my meal. We took refuge from a rainy evening at Camp Fire and had an absolutely lovely experience. The decor is simultaneously rustic and elegant. The menu has been updated and upgraded, and everything we ate was delicious, with well planned flavor combinations and excellent quality. We shared the whole trout and the bison meatloaf, and our amazing server helped to figure out what seemed like an impossible wine pairing. Campfire is located in Hotel Saranac, where we stayed for 2 nights. We tried drinks, dinner and breakfast here and absolutely loved it! The interiors are fresh and clean. The food itself was 4 stars, adding another star for the fantastic service. Evening cocktails/dinner: We were served by Julissa, she's such a positive person and her recommendations were spot on. Julissa was enthusiastic, passionate about her job and served with a smile. We really enjoyed our experience. For drinks - hot Sara was our favorite 5/5. Others were good, but not sweet enough for us. Dinner: 1. Chips and Dip - 5/5 - chips were crispy and dip was creamy and delicious. We ordered this on both days. 2. Vegan Korean BBQ Burger - 5/5 - the Asian flavored sauce made the beyond burger savory and delicious 3. Vegetarian Forest Mushroom Risotto- 4/5 - was creamy and had the right amount of cheese. Was delicious! 4. Side of corn bread - 5/5 - soft, flavorful and absolutely stunning! Overall dinner experience was fantastic and would highly recommend Campfire for dinner. Moving on to breakfast: Melissa was our server and she was warm and professional. We got: 1. avacado toast - it was ok - 4/5. Bread was crispy and was nice 2. Stopped for dinner January 16 on my way back back to Vermont. Not a good experience. I should have ordered the burger as I have in the past, It's excellent. I ordered the ribeye. The ribeye was $48 and for that price it should be exceptional. Unfortunately it was a cheap cut of steak. It was tough and I now understand that Steak has a new category of doneness I asked for medium rare and I got medium raw. Something like this not only hurts the restaurant but also leaves a bad impression for competing restaurants. Unfortunately, this is becoming the norm. It was not a busy evening. I was the only one that ordered from the bar and there was one table of four people in the entire restaurant. read more

We've eaten at this restaurant in the Hotel Saranac a few times; the most recent was the best experience. Perhaps it just took a couple of years for this restaurant to hit its stride, perhaps it's just that cyclic Adirondack thing: sometimes a restaurant can hang on to a good chef, oftentimes not. Go to a restaurant one month and it's great; go the next month, and it's not. In any case, a recent dinner was very much enjoyed. The shepherds pie was excellent; the grilled salmon dish was very good; the fried chicken was good. Service was nice, prompt, and professional. Oddly and unexpectedly, the room was a little chilly for a mild winter's night in the Adirondacks - it has the look of a place that's going to be warm. A bit pricey for the area, but a good meal. If it maintains the same quality we experienced on this most recent trip, we will continue to be repeat customers. read more

Service was absolutely terrible. We sat at the table for 30 minutes before we finally had a waiter come over to our table, despite getting up several times to try to get a waiter to serve us. In the end we had to go talk to the manager who assigned a waiter to our table. This is totally unacceptable. Food was good. Ambiance was okay but a bit loud. If you are looking for amazing handcrafted food, you've got to try Campfire Grill! When I say that everything is crafted by hand, even their ketchup is made in-house! I couldn't decide what to order so I settled on a handful of appetizers, including the beet salad, and pastrami hash. I generally don't praise about a simple salad, but this has got to be the best one I've ever had. The creaminess from the ricotta contrasted the crunch from the praline and toasted breadcrumbs; the mild sweetness from the beets mingled wonderfully with the juniper berry vinaigrette. The Vinaigrette itself impart a wonderful Evergreen note on the back end, I'd never had a dressing like that before. And that's just my reaction to a salad! The hash was so tasty. The poached egg on top was just runny enough, allowing the yolk to spill over perfectly crisp roasted root veggies and cubes of pastrami. The other items our family had, including a perfectly cook medium-rare Burger, to their hand cut potato fries (and my kid doesn't eat potatoes), and the perfectly grilled medium-rare steak , were all delicious! Just had an excellent experience here. Pleasant modern dining room with comfy seating and an atmosphere that is lively but not distractingly loud. The hostess was extremely helpful and knowledgeable about the menu. Our Server Julissa was also attentive and welcoming. The signature cocktails were fun and well crafted, and my seared salmon entree was absolutely delightful. I've never had a better parsnip in my life. Campfire is in the recently renovated Hotel Saranac. It has that stylish and upscale woodsy aesthetic straight out of Portlandia, or, well, some of my friend's and my apartments. So I was fully prepared to hate it, but they won me over. The service is charming and not precious, which also helps. The space has nice decorative elements but it's still understated, and the open kitchen is a dream workspace. The food is exceptional. They start you out with a warm cornbread and maple butter on an iron skillet. A tad sweet to my taste, but moist and delicious. I had the winter vegetable gnocchi, which is no vegetarian afterthought. It's creamy and delicious with loads of squash and apples. I tried my pal's rich pork osso buco--also delicious. I drank a variation of a Moscow mule with apple cider and something else. She had something smokey that was great. The dining room is a bit chilly and this was only the start of winter, so be warned. read more

After hiking for 10 hours, I was DELIGHTED that Campfire could squeeze us in on a Saturday night. The menu, yet small, offers something for everyone. I started with the butternut squash soup. Rich and creamy, they top it with crumbly blue cheese, and toasted pumpkin seeds. If they offered a vat of it, aside from a bowl, I would have said yes. Next on the gorge fest was their fried chicken and biscuit with sage gravy. Served open faced. Although it's an undertaking - it was breaded and fried perfectly and balanced with the gravy and a side of green beans. I'd come back anytime I'm in the area. read more

With only 4 days notice they called to tell us their menu had changed from the expected $30-$50 per person to a fixed price $150 per person. No a la carte options. I'm not sure if it's a money grab or they really don't want be open in the 24th -- I'm trying to imagine how many people are ready to suddenly triple their budget for one dinner during the holiday season. Good spot for a date night, but I don't know that I would eat here with a whole family. Only downside is that the restaurant overall was a little slow, so I wouldn't go here if you're looking for a quick bite. There were only two women to cover all the bartending, waitressing, hostessing, etc out front. They probably could've used another person, but they were on top of it and you would think there was ten more people working if you weren't paying attention. Also, best cornbread I've ever had. After a long day, my friends and I decided that we wanted to eat near Saranac Lake. We came upon Campfire on our search. When we arrived to the set location, we were a bit confused, but eventually found our way inside the doors of a hotel and into the restaurant. Ambience: 4.5/5 The ambience is great. In general, the restaurant is dimly lit, but with the candle in the middle of the table, it definitely resembled the feel of a outdoor campfire. It was nice to have a fairly wide open area with tables spaced out. You can see the chefs making the food. The bathrooms were conveniently located across the halls of the restaurant. Service: 3.5/5 Since it wasn't too busy, they were quick to seat us at our table. They took our order in a timely fashion, but the food did take some time to come out. The servers weren't on top of offering additional water, etc. But in general, they were accommodating with our request when asked. Corn Bread: 5/5 They serve their homemade cornbread as a complimentary before the start of the meal and it is AMAZING! It's so good & warm that I would totally pay to buy more, but it's so awesome that they offer it for free like this. I would have to say that it is one of the best corn breads I've tasted. It pairs so well with the butter that we couldn't help but plead for a second serving. They were kind enough to give us more. Food: 3/5 - I personally got the Cauliflower Rice. When looking at the ingredients on the menu, I liked what I saw. When it actually came out, I was kind of disappointed. It was cauliflower mashed (which tasted plain) and the tomato was cooked/soggy. The best part was the wonton crisps and the asparagus. I did end up finishing it, but it wasn't very filling. Maybe it's because it wasn't what I expected, but I wouldn't really recommend it. - My friend who got the Oven Roasted Salmon also wasn't filled with her meal and was actually left hungry. - My friend got the Chicken & Biscuit. The chicken was soft inside, crunchy outside & warm. I really liked the chicken when I tried a small sample of it. But to be honest, the biscuit was mediocre. But in my opinion, I still think she had the best meal. I personally would recommend the chicken and biscuit out of all the entrees (and it is quite a popular choice as I've heard). read more

Recently had lunch here. The chicken sandwich was good, my med well burger was like a hockey puck. My mom's fries came out cold like they cooked them first. We asked for new fries the waitress brought them and then passed us off to the manager and we never saw a waitress again. 5 tables in the restaurant. The manager tried to give us our bill before we were done eating. We said we plan on dessert. She brought a list and told us they only had 3 out of the ten items. We ordered a peanut butter brownie skillet. Also asked for more hot water for our tea. The skillet took over a half hour to come out as well as the hot water for my mother's tea. When the skillet came out, it was warm to the touch, the brownie its self was hard as a rock and not even warm in the middle. It tasted horrible and like they pulled it from the deep freezer. At the end were like who are we even tipping, serivce was not good. One item out of three was good. I don't recommend, my mom is a local and I was visiting and they just wanted to rush us out of there once we complained about nasty cold fries. read more

I had an amazing spin on an old fashioned it was a mulled cider old fashioned! A touch of sweetness, but very fall esque. The bartender was very attentive and appeased our every request! Poor Customer Service Went to the bar Saturday afternoon because it was not crowded. 3 people at the bar. my friend got a moscow mule so we ordered that too. The 2 new drinks were the color of vodka, the original was a ginger color. I asked the bartender why they were different in color. I thought she forgot the ginger beer. She barked at me you try it yet?do you like it? I repeated my question and she stated she didn't have time to deal with me and walked away. I repeat the bar was not busy. few mins later another bartender came over and replaced our drinks. I called the hotel to relate the horrible customer service I got. The GM Jacob called me. I told him the story and how this was strike 5 for service at this restaurant and bar . All he said was that he would pass it on to the restaurant Mgr. He never apologized for the poor service, he never said hope you give us another chance. Just that he would pass it on. Poor customer service starts at the top (GM)in this place, no wonder the staff is the way they are. Will never set foot in this place again and am telling everyone I know about this experience. read more

Been eating breakfast here every morning and it has been fantastic. Getting dinner reservations was difficult but finally got in tonight, OMG it was amazing. I am so full! This is such a nice restaurant with a very cozy vibe. I've been here a few times for work meetings and I've always had a nice experience. The campfire burger and hand cut fries ARE SO GOOD. I was not planning on eating everything but I couldn't stop because it was so delicious. The burger had yummy flavors from the bacon, roasted onion and bbq sauce. If I could hit zero stars I would. Made a reservation weeks ago. Walked in at 900am May 30 and it was 2/3rds empty. Took 5 minutes for a hostess to come. No apologies for having us stand there. ( heavier woman, black hair). I asked nicely since it was quiet could we sit in seats by the window. She said table is dirty. I said ok we will wait. Rolling her eyes and not about to make us happy she 1/2 heartedly said she'd do it. I said obviously you don't want to. She went on muttering under her breath and passing out menus. Total bitch - so not in the right job- we of course left this dump and went to the Saranac Waterfront who couldn't hVe been nicer. This is post- Covid treatment??? Food was not good. I ordered the burger medium and got it well. The french fries were dark brown. They look like they were burnt but didn't seem over cooked just were discolored. I actually thought they were some other type of potato rather than common russet. Service was absolutely terrible. Food was also terribly overpriced for what it was. The only thing that was somewhat acceptable was the ambience of the restaurant. My friend ordered the fried chicken ($31 for a single piece of burnt fried chicken with mac & cheese), He sent it back and asked for a burger, now that burger was cooked medium like he ordered it but the fries were still discolored and looked burnt. I haven't left a review on yelp in a long time, but this place deserved this review. I would avoid this restaurant and look elsewhere. read more
