After spending four hours walking around the Wild Center, my wife and I decided to try someplace new during our brief stay in the area. Yelp found this spot so we were wanting to give them a try. We arrived in between lunchtime and dinner. There were a few other people there as well. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place is family run with a Brazilian flair.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] After we were seated, our waitress informed us of their specials. We ordered adult beverages as well as the truffle Parmesan tots to start. The tots were absolutely delicious! We ordered our main courses of Brazilian Moqueca Mista and my wife their Grilled Chicken Sandwich with no bun. Apparently the Moqueca can be prepared regular, hot, or very hot. I asked mine to be hot. Our dishes were delivered. They were well presented and picture perfect. Unfortunately, my dish was not hot or at least by my standard. that said, it was very delicious! We finished out our meal with peanut butter pie and a cup of coffee. The entire experience was terrific! Perhaps we will be able to stop in again before we leave the area. read more

It took them 15 minutes to seat the people behind us. Others walked out waiting. There was no one else where. I ordered a cosmopalitan. The glass was small and it was filled up LESS THAN HALFWAY. I had like four sips. We ordered bread. It took twenty minutes to come. They charged for the bread, yet we got six tiny pieces and a heal of what seemed like store bought bread they heated up. Only a little butter. Again, this was an app we PAID for. We ordered the calamari. It was tiny, so tiny. All our dinners were tiny. The food was barely average. The quality of the food, both in prep and the actual food itself did not go anywhere NEAR justifying the TINY, TINY, TINY portions. I have never in my life seen such little pasta on a plate. The food took forever to come. Wasn't very good. The staff was nice, but that's all, and everything took FOREVER. I sincerly hope for the sake of this town this places is closed in a year. read more

The ambiance is great - especially in the summer. We ate on their deck looking out on to an open area and just enjoyed ourselves. I'm not sure where the 1 star reviews are coming from but this was by far the best meal we had in the Adirondack area (Tupper Lake, Long Lake, Blue Mountain Lake). We got the shrimp and mussel linguine and sesame seared ahi tuna. I wish I had taken pictures because the amount of tuna they gave us was amazing. and the buckwheat noodles in the sauce were so yummy! I actually had to ask the waiter what exactly those noodles were. There was a generous amount of shrimp and mussels in the linguine and to be honest we couldn't even eat all of it. They gave us a small salad to start and some bread before our meal. read more

We've been visiting Long Lake for a few years now on our annual summer vacation - and were always stuck with "where do we go for 'date night'?" We weren't looking for "chi chi" necessarily - just a really good meal...with maybe a little ambiance. The size of Long Lake pushed us 30 minutes north to Tupper Lake. After a couple mediocres over the years, I can't believe we found Amado! Now, I'll be honest...the exterior isn't the "best." Frankly, it looks like a little hole in the wall...and not in the best way (that's coming from someone who LOVES a hole in the wall). But once you open the door? WOW! A lovely little bistro! As for the food...delish. The portion of warm bread for the table could have been a bit larger, but was tasty. The Onion & Ale soup - was a 7/10...I do like the cheese actually more melted, but yummy none the less. My hubs got the Short Rib/Gnocchi special...I have never had a better gnocchi - they were beautiful little pillows of deliciousness. The meat? The little bit the hubs let me sample - sumptuous. As for me? Grilled Chicken & Pistachio Risotto - one word, AMAZEBALLS. Well cooked, tasty chicken enveloped in a beautiful risotto dotted throughout with lovely pistachios. Not a single complaint. I forced myself to stop halfway through (and then chowed the rest once we got home). And you certainly can't offer an apple strudel with vanilla ice cream and not expect me to dive in face first...especially when what arrives is a gorgeous warm pastry anointed with decadent ice cream. SO good. Great service, a terrific beer list and amazing food. Whether you're on a date with someone new...or someone you're already into...GREAT choice. It's the perfect "date" night place. This place is receiving 2 stars solely because their food is actually delicious, and the outdoor seating area is beautiful..other than those two things, everything else was severely subpar. We came on a busy Friday night with a group of 7 and reserved a greenhouse. None of us had ever been here before and we were celebrating a birthday so it seemed like the perfect place. Unfortunately, we were severely mistaken. It seemed as soon as we sat down, nothing could go right. We ordered drinks and appetizers from our extremely friendly server, who also apparently happened to be one of the owners. Being the owner, throughout the night, she was pulled in multiple different directions, even when trying to tend to us to take our orders, ask questions, etc. This was a bit frustrating, but understandable as it seemed she was the only one who was capable of doing anything. Our drinks and appetizers came without too many issues, (we were still missing a soup and a salad) but once the entrees came out it was all downhill from there. One of our dinner guests' burgers came out entirely too rare, to which they took back.. and then returned, with the same exact burger and bun covered in the blood from the rare burger he was originally given. 2nd round of drinks were ordered and no one received the correct item that they expected. The owner then began arguing with us that the drinks were correct and kept insisting we come inside so she could prove us wrong. Not only have 5 out of the 7 of us worked in the service industry, but we have also all been at the management level and arguing with a customer over something so minute is absurd. The next fiasco began when I started to have an allergic reaction to something I ate and my lips swelled up and my throat began to close. I specifically made sure to not order anything on the menu that contained any ingredients I was allergic to because: common sense. The owner then had the audacity to tell me I was NOT having an allergic reaction because there were no tree nuts in my meal and it was impossible. That is great that there were not supposed to be any nuts in it and all, but at some point there must have been cross contamination or something mixed in that created my "imaginary reaction". A friend thankfully offered to run to the gas station to grab some antihistamines to which the owner was STILL arguing with him that there were no nuts in my food. With all of the errors and fiascos of the evening, the only offer of rectification was to bring us a bottle of cheap Rosé that we had all declined in the beginning of the dinner due to one being pregnant, and the others simply not enjoying Rosé. All in all, this was probably the worst experience we have all had at any type of dining location especially since we spent well over $400. The complete lack of empathy mixed with the argumentative attitude of the owner herself was enough for us to never return as well as advise our local friends and families of the same. read more

Both were good, if you like your chowder sweet :). Saw mixed reviews but glad we gave it a try. We were also entertained with a violin and viola duet. The garden is beautifully done. The fried oysters were delicious. Perfectly cooked with juices intact. The hummus was decent. For entrée we ordered the salmon, tuna and chicken pot pie. The salmon was poached and presented on a bed of fresh greens and broth. The salmon piece was a decent size. I should have asked for a spoon because the broth was a perfect condiment to the dish. The ahi tuna dish came with 2 large pieces. Perfectly crusted with sesame. The floating pot pie was an interesting presentation. I was told it was very good. Too good to share even a bite. We also tried the avocado key lime pie and the peanut butter chocolate pie. Both were delicious. Not overly sweet at all. The avocado key lime pie was very interesting. My son and husband likes sour foods and they devoured the slice. Will have to go back to try more dishes. They tote themselves as the "future of north country dining", but having ate at many establishments throughout the region, I can testify that is most certainly not the case. Went to a wine pairing diner last night at a local restaurant, six course meal was a bit overwhelming but super tasty along with six glasses of generously poured wines. The chef expertly crafted each dish to please the eyes and the palate. I was pleasantly surprised at the plates, ranging from frog legs to venison to monk fish! Each course was executed well and had a sauce finesse not normally found in the ADK. I truly enjoyed the delicate frog legs that could have been overcooked but here it was perfectly moist and seasoned along with the silkiness of the creamed spinach was the winner of the night for me. My monk fish bathed in beure blanc was devine. The short rib ravs with smoked tomatoes and hand pulled pasta could of used a touch of sugar to cut the acidity of the tomatoes but tasty all the same. My only hiccup of the evening came with the venison course. My cut was overcooked to medium where all other guests had rare to medium rare could just been the end cut but it was a bit too dry for me. My medallion was indeed med-rare which I was happy to see and flavorful with its mushroom Demi-glaze. We fished strong with the cranberry strudel with a lovely ice-cream. All the wines were paired nicely and although I was the DD I did manage to sip each along with a bite of each dish to access the profile! We will return to Amado soon as the chef's elevated creativity was truly a pleasant surprise! read more

We went for the first time after hearing many good things. We sat in the outside dining area. It was a warm night and we were not under the fans which would have been nice. We ordered the arugula salad with ahi tuna for an appetizer. For the price of 16.95 I thought there would be more than 4 very small pieces of tuna. The salad was very dry as well. We opted to not order wine by the glass and Im happy we didn't because the pours in the glasses we that we saw others getting was very small. The main entrees we ordered were very good but the portions are very small for the prices. We were served bread and before our entrees were delivered we were asked if we wanted more bread. We said yes but were not told that there was a charge of $5.50 for the second round. Thats not nice. We should have been told about the charge and we probably would not have opted for the second very small amount of bread. Over all we had a nice dinner. 1st of all, it's open. I've been here a few times in the past 2 years. Some visits better than others. Their new outdoor seating is nice. But it is the ADK and an outdoor only situation is rough. There are permanent tents and decks, just not sure it was worth it. Ate outside in the tented portion. They really boosted their prices. I get it's the pandemic and everything cost more, but wow! I will pay for good food, but this is not worth the prices they are charging. I will go again as there are not a bunch of restaurants in Tupper to choose from. WOW! This restaurant was recommended by the owners of the Northwood Cabins for our Anniversary dinner and we couldn't be happier. They created an outdoor dining space that was remarkable. The service, by the owners daughter was very good. But where they shined most was the food. The New England Clam chowder made with smoked white chocolate, yes that's right, was unlike anything I've ever had and I wish I lived in the town to get it again. My wife's Onion & Ale soup topped with Croutons and Smoked Gouda Cheese was also amazing! My wife's Braised Salmon Filet was delish and tasted like no other salmon we've ever eaten. I had the porterhouse special what was as good as it gets. It was cooked to order and delish. They've created three quaint outdoor huts that are heated and air conditioned when the weather requires it. Our night was warm, starlit and perfect. Wow! These chefs are brilliant! To find a restaurant this good in a small town in a wilderness area reminds me of traveling in Tuscany or Britany: imaginative, talented cooks who know cuisine and make the most of their local ingredients, all in a casual cafe ambiance. There are old-favorites on the menu (burgers, pot pies) but the Brazilian specialties and the innovative daily specials (venison medallions in a demi-glaze, red snapper in a jalapeno white chocolate sauce) make this place unique. Even the pizzas are served with an imaginative flare: you can order the ratatouille pie or have yours with Italian boar sausage. Vegans are very well-served with their own set of entrees. We love the laid-back, vacation-land vibe of choosing to dine completely al fresco, in a cozy igloo, or in one of the three-sided pavillions (curtains open or closed). The wine,beer, and spirit list is well-curated and the service is professional and attentive. We've eaten here four or five times and will return in a heart-beat: it's unequivocally the best place to eat in the 'dacks. read more

Everything about this place exceeded our expectations. The food, coffee and service were fantastic. Our server was so friendly and prompt. We came in the morning and ordered breakfast. I had the French toast with brioche bread and real maple syrup. My husband had the lumberjack Rosti and this was absolutely delicious. The atmosphere was really nice too. CAUTION: OWNER RENEGES ON RESERVATIONS AND REFUSES TO SERVE PATRONS AT WILL At first glance it appears Amado's has it's COVID response strategy in order with limited capacity inside, open tables outside, and even some outdoor sheds for individual groups. While that may be nice, the individual(s) running this business are unstable. We made reservations at Amado's via phone Saturday night. After a long 12 hr day of hiking high peaks, we were looking for a nice, sit down meal to rest and nurture our tired bodies. Our children had high hopes of a cool soda and good meal with the family. There aren't many options for sit down eating these days, let alone in Tupper Lake; however our hotel recommended several options; Amado's being one of them. So we called to make a reservation. We should have heeded our first hint to stay away. The young lady that answered the phone was unable to answer any questions herself, so I could hear her politely consult a man in the background, who loudly retorted to the girl in an unnecessary string of angry terses that no reservations are available before 7:30 pm; so we went with 7:30 pm for a table of 6. With hindsight, I suspect the girl that answered the phone is fearful of answering any questions independently for fear of scathing criticism from the bully that owns/runs this place. We showered up, dressed up, and began walking from our hotel to downtown. We arrived earlier than expected (6:30 pm), but figured we'd stop in just to ask if they had any cancellations, because there were several "socially spaced" tables available outside, several outdoor huts available, and several indoor tables available. We asked and were told that all those tables had reservations and would fill up soon. Okay, no problem, so we walked the town and had some tasty appetizers at the Well Dressed Man (btw, great place, nice staff, highly recommended, but limited seating). At 7:15 pm a member of our group was walking to a nearby store to grab something and saw that most all of the outdoor tables were still available, so he dropped by and asked if maybe they were ready a few minutes early and they said no. So we stayed put until 7:30 pm (the time of our reservation) and when we entered Amado's the Owner (or whomever runs the place) aggressively charged out of the kitchen, curtly asked us to follow him outside, and then (in much the same fashion I overheard on the phone when making our reservation) told my entire family that we were "Annoying", that he was "refusing to serve us", and told us to go away (using not so nice words). We had done nothing to deserve this. We are "Any Family USA" and if they did this to us, they'd do it to anyone. What was really a bummer was that we had been waiting for an hour for our 7:30 pm reservation to arrive and, as parents, we had used all our tricks to keep our kids engaged and not focused on dinner; only to be told that we were being REFUSED SERVICE. It was a huge blow to our evening and difficult to explain to our children. I STRONGLY ENCOURAGE EVERYONE TO AVOID THIS RESTAURANT. We went around the corner and had a nice dinner at Little Italy. I can't believe this place is in Tupper Lake (and I grew up here, currently have a camp here). Food was delicious and fancy. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. Dinner specials this week include seared red snapper with burre blanc and sesame seared ahi tuna. We came for lunch. I had the reuben, with homemade corned beef, sauerkraut AND bread. It was delightful and I have high standards for this sandwich - my usual place is an authentic NYC deli. My husband had the club panini (with house roasted turkey) and and onion and ale soup, which he loved. They have takeout dinner specials for 4 for $25. Tonight's is a whole roasted brined chicken with bread, cole slaw, gravy and garlic mashed potatoes. I envision many weekends here where we grab that instead of cooking. read more

Three cheers for take out service during the COVID lock down. Our order was welcomed even though it was last minute near closing. After a day of hiking the burgers were a welcome treat. Cooked perfectly and dressed according to the name. Cheeseburger included lettuce, tomato thinly sliced onions and, of course cheese - great sweet potato fries to boot! The blue burger, so tasty!!
