Stopped by for lunch last Sunday. The grumpy bartender told me to order food in the back. So, went to the back and ordered from a much nicer employee. Went back to the bartender for drinks and sat down. I ordered one of the smash burgers. It was OK, but the edges were all very crispy - so, it was likely overcooked. I like mine medium-well, but this was definitely more on the well done side. No one checked on me the entire time I was there. The place is very dark, but has a nice atmosphere. Drinks are acquired by ordering at the bar. This burger has rich, flavorful meat, fun toppings, and a soft squishy roll. It made my top 5 burger list with ease. Asked the bartender to make me a sweet/tart drink and was happy with the concoction she dreamt up. Vanilla vodka, amaretto, and sour mix. It was delicious. It's kind of a local Northern Exposure kind of bar...like a bunch of the "local" establishments, they know who isn't from the North Country etc. etc...two types of service (one for the locals and one for the out-of-towners). Food is good and the jukebox is really good. Beer is fair priced. A lot of eclectic characters in here...part of the holy trifecta of townie joints (Waterhole, Grizle, and Bitters and Bones). Was in the mood for some cold beers and burgers so once I read the reviews, we headed over. Once we walked in we were instructed "how they work". Order drinks at bar and good from guy at back door. Despite that we were headed to back porch, expecting waiter/waitress service, it's self serve. So we noticed some ordering 2 drinks so I guess they would not have to get up soon after sitting. So hubby ordered a classic bottle of beer and I ordered a rated 100 beer from their 50+ yo choose from. Delicious. $8 a bit much but is what it is. We ordered a Doc Holiday bbq smash burger. Maple mayo?! Fried onions and bacon were crisp and perfect. Seasoning and temperature was perfect as well. Also ordered bourbon bbq wings. Again, spot on. Place was packed on a Sunday so we had to sit outside, which was fine since the weather was still nice! Food was decent and they provided great service but the bartender was incredibly rude to all of us for no reason, which was disappointing. My boneless chicken wings were OK, very small and had too much breading but flavor was decent. The french fry platter was big enough to split and came with yummy dipping sauces. My friends enjoyed their burgers and chicken sandwiches too. If you want to come here for a game, definitely make sure to come early or you might be SOL. read more

This hidden gem is one of our new favorites! We popped in when it seemed that everything else on Main Street was closed. It doesn't look like much on the outside and you could easily miss it, but once inside, it has rustic charm, a great beer selection and super friendly staff. The bartender was super welcoming and gave us the lay of the land. You order drinks from the bar and the food is ordered in the back at a counter. That staff was also super nice and when it's ready, they bring it to your table. They're known for their fried chicken sandwiches and the Rick James didn't disappoint! Let a group of two order ahead of me because I was polite and patient, then two minutes pass and it's after thursday happy hour so she rudely told me I do not get a free drink, even though I even asked her what her opinion was of the best happy hour choice, and was clearly in line before it was over. This was our first meal after arriving in Saranac Lake. It was early in the afternoon so we were able to get the one booth with the dog bed between it and the next booth which was great for distancing space. The setup for food and drink is a little different. Food gets ordered at the back of the room and drinks, paid for and ordered separately at the bar itself. The food menu was, in my opinion, basic hipster bar food. One too many ingredients on most of the items. For example, the Kim Jong Un chicken sandwich I had was listed as coming with Korean slaw, sriracha mayo, fried bologna and oddly, American cheese served on a Hawaiian roll (very sweet). I found it to be a sweet and salty, slightly messy chicken sandwich. I would have appreciated a regular non sugary bun and the bologna I leave a mystery. One thing that I wouldn't change a thing about was the fries. Thin shoestrings of perfection. I ate almost all of mine and it was a generous serving. The atmosphere of the bar was pleasant. The music was provided by the digital jukebox and the volume was perfect. Loud enough to be prominent but not annoying. read more

My fiancé and I were camping at Fish Creek Campground for the long Columbus Day Weekend. That means we were planning on leaving on Monday. But football is on Sundays and we may not get the game in the camper! So to the internet I went and I asked for recommendations on a good bar to go to for football. Immediately we were recommended to come here, as it was a Buffalo Bills backer bar. Perfect, except the Bills weren't playing and we needed the Dolphins game! When we arrived it was not very busy, probably because of COVID-19. We got a comfy booth and asked the bar tender to put the Dolphins game up on the jumbo screen right in front of us. It was perfect! The food was walk-up to order than they brought it to us. We got loaded fries to share. Very yum! The drinks were very delicious as well. No watered down nonsense. My absolutely favorite part about this bar was that there were dog beds in between the booths. So it is dog friendly! If we had known we would have brought ours! Wow. This is a review mostly for The Scullery (the food window in the back). After creeping them on Instagram for a few weeks we decided to give them a go. For anyone wondering, you can call in your order and take it to go or sit down and eat in the bar as the offer several booths and tables. The food window has a card reader and you can literally go in, pay and leave without having to stop at the bar. The bar was packed on a Sunday night, which must mean they are doing something right. They have an outstanding draught list and even advertise when they last cleaned the lines! Love that. We took our food to go and we were pleased with the eco friendly packaging (heavy cardboard) that also kept the food warm through a 25 min drive home. We ordered the Korean BBQ wings and were not disappointed. Sticky, sweet and a little spicy. Nice sized wings and bonus points for Gluten Free. Also got two different smash burgers. They tout that their beef is hand ground at Kreature butcher in Lake Placid and IT. DOES. NOT. DISAPPOINT. Tasty, perfectly cooked and generous size. They also offer Gluten Free buns (good ones at that)! The only (sort of?) downfall is that the bar room is a little dark and may feel uninviting to a newcomer. If you can work past that, the food is a HOME RUN. Easily the best little dive bar / hole in the wall food joint in the Tri Lakes. read more

This place is amazing! I don't understand why there aren't more reviews or it's rated even higher. They have delicious food, wonderful staff and a prefect patio out back. They were open July 4th weekend, covid, for takeout, patio and some space at the bar. We got a salad and two different burgers. If you are a hop-head like me, there are not many places you can go in Saranac Lake and have several choices of IPA and craft beer. Even if you are not a beer snob, they have PBR on tap. They do not serve food, but a "magic window" connects to Owl's Nest where you can easily order off their menu. It's a great place to watch Syracuse University games, and other sporting events.
