Have you ever been so hungry after having a big meal? That was last night for me and my wife. We had a huge lunch and thought that was it, no more food for the rest of the evening. But, after a few hours, the stomachs started growling and we were on the road to 'Dack Shack. Nice little place in Lake Placid. We only had an hour to get something to eat since they closed at 8. I ordered the fish and chips and my wife ordered 5 wings, extra crispy and naked. Whoa! They came out hot, crispy and smelling wonderful. And they tasted great! The fries were so good too. The service was friendly and accommodating. The atmosphere was homey, a little dark but comfortable and casual. It was clean. Prices were reasonable and affordable. Check this place out when you are up in Lake Placid, NY. read more

Fantastic food; great Adirondack-themed decor; and a really good variety of food. We were so happy to find this restaurant while we were in Lake Placid!! We went back two days in a row. Besides the super cute decor, they have a good Happy Hour, a connected gourmet market with lots of offerings and even a really fun kids' play area in part of the restaurant (kitchen play set to keep the kids interested during meal time). I had a delicious lobster roll--with a choice of fries, sweet potato fries or the most delicious homemade onion rings. The Dack Burger that my husband had was fantastic with lots of toppings. I highly recommend Dack Shack!! read more

I'm so sad to leave a poor review, but there were multiple problems with my groups experience. Our server was attentive and friendly, however made multiple errors - they forgot an appetizer entirely, three entrees came out late, and a side was late and incorrect. Drinks were messed up and orders had to be repeated about 3 separate times. The restaurant was not busy, so I'm unsure how this could've happened. Some of the food was good - those who got the french dip sandwiches enjoyed it, as well as the wings. However, the black bean burger and beef stroganoff were average. It didn't blow us out of the water. The stroganoff had good flavor but was sitting in a pool of oil so that put some people off. I am visiting town, but unfortunately I would not come again if I return to Lake Placid due to the disorganization, errors, long wait for food and lack of food quality to make up for the prior problems. read more

Food and Service was great! I had the Pork Bao Buns and the wife had the bean burger. Both, we would have again! The fries are fantastic and had the garlic aioli with. The kids snacked on some fresh veggies since they just got out of a birthday party at their back room which was also fantastic venue. Their Juice bomb and pilsner beer on tap were very delicious as well! I'd go back again for sure! Sorry no food pics we were too busy enjoying. Yum! read more

'Dack Shack - Outside - Burgers Near Me - Lake Placid, New York

The service was quick and the restaurant was clean and cute inside. I got the ramen with tofu, which was a big serving and overall good. I tried the chicken riggies which was good, but not a fan of the side vegetables that came with it. Got the calamari appetizer which was okay. Definitely recommend the peanut butter pie for desert (I don't even like peanut butter and this was delicious). read more

Service was good and friendly. They were busy and bartender was attempting to make all drinks for bar/restaurant and be our server. Food was good but a little pricey for what you got. read more

The staff is very friendly and the ambiance is pretty cool...but the food...boring to not good. Burger is very small with no spices added to it, not even salt & pepper. Menu does say 1/4 burgers but I'd be surprised if that big. Sriracha Maple Beans, taste like corned baked beans with sriracha added to it. Don't get me wrong, I do like canned baked beans, but I expected more from a restaurant. One of the "Local Favorites" is the Shack Bowl. Described as "chilled farro, curry chickpeas, arugula, guacamole, cucumber, tomato, red onion, cotijo cheese, cilantro, lemon vinaigrette. Well, it should been called a salad because it was just about all arugula with a little of the remainder thrown on top. After years of wanting to try this place, we finally did. We'll continue driving by it from now on. read more

Great food and good vibes. Had something for everyone on the menu. Wings, clam chowder, and Brussels sprouts were a hit and kids devoured the chicken tenders and burger. Would recommend and add to our rotation at Lake Placid. read more

We loved this place. The drinks were well made and delicious. The food was well cooked and easy for your eyes to eat first. Their specials were delightful, the wings were well cooked and crispy without being drowned in sauce they were still flavorful. read more

The place is very simple from the exterior but the service and food was great! We will be back the next time we are in the area.

We stopped in for lunch during the off season. It was around 1ish and the restaurant was empty except for one other party. The building is actually 2 separate eateries. While we didn't go to the other restaurant it seemed to be more of a grab and go type of place . It's fairly small and clean. We did see a small flyer by the restroom promoting the upstairs area where they have live bands. We were promptly greeted and sat at a booth. The waitress returned quickly with waters and paper menus . We ordered a bowl of clam chowder, a small caesar salad with chicken and an appetizer portion of fried brussel sprouts . The bowl of soup looked delicious and hearty with potatoes and clams. My husband said it was delicious. The salad was served on a small plate overflowing with Romain lettuce though the chicken looked a bit dry. It was average. The brussel sprouts were good but a bit greasy. The portion sizes were great and the waitress checked on us multiple times. A few other diners came in and they received the same treatment with their food delivered promptly. Everything that passed by us looked good! Overall the food and service were good. It wasn't over the top delicious but I'd pop back in to try other items on the menu. read more

The food is fresh and wonderful. Owners are great people. Lovely surroundings and staff. Our go to place as locals.

I was so pleasantly surprised by the 'Dack Shack for SO many reasons... I'll start by saying the food was amazing and decently priced. The Mountain Goat Salad was incredible and so were the steak tacos! We sat at the bar and had such a wonderful conversation speaking with the young woman tending. I wish I got her name but we were too busy learning (and asking a million questions) about Bosnia. She was so welcoming, informative, and sweet and service was quick! Great beer selection. Adirondack chairs outside on their "paw-tio" are dog friendly (and they have entire meals for your pup if you're traveling with your four-legged friend!!). I will be back!!!! read more

I had the mahi taco which were very fresh and a whole piece of fish in each taco. Very good flavor. Hubby had the fried halibut with a wedge salad. Both were excellent. Service was good. Price was good for the location. read more

I forgot to take pictures, but I ordered the mountain fries and they did not feel like mountain size. I honestly wonder what the other side would look like. In general the food was a bit disappointing for how much it cost. read more

We stopped here on our way home for lunch. The location was perfect because it was right before the Main Street of Lake Placid so it wasn't very busy. Plenty of parking. It's connected to a small shop which was super cute to go and poke around in. They have a walk up window for food and beverages. You can choose to eat outside or inside. We chose to eat inside and the service was very friendly and they were very quick. They are part of a work exchange so English is their second language, but they spoke very well. We ordered three entrées and one drink. The drink was very strong, so definitely worth the money. Our food was delicious. The only minor thing was the Mac and cheese was lukewarm. We could've asked for it heated again but we were so hungry we didn't care. We would definitely come back here again. read more

The service at the Dack Shack was quick and friendly. We got our food very quickly and everything was extremely fresh and delicious! I would highly recommend! Super cute place as well, very clean and cute. read more

Two stars for the convenience of the location. Such a dissatisfying experience - from my waitresses disposition to the mealy falafel. I had higher hopes for this place. Not much to say but it was remarkable how the absence of any shred of investment in my servers demeanor can mar a diners experience. The place is fine but the food I chose was awful. Greasy pita, undercooked falafel. I ate a few fries (very good) and the tomatoes and pickled cucumbers. As for the totality of my experience it was turned sour by the young waitress who showed, multiple times during my meal, that she was not interested in my experience at that establishment. Full disclosure: I was a waiter for well over a decade and understand the biz. I know how burnt out or depressing this job can be at times, so when I experience a server so obviously disinterested in my dining experience is, I know it. I don't expire et to be the waiters friend. I don't expect gushing hospitality. I do expect to be related to. Perhaps looked at when you drop the check. Sometimes it only takes a moment of connection to make or break a customer's experience with a restaurant. Mine occurred here. Suffice to say I won't be returning. There are many more joints in LP that are vying for my patronage. read more

I just went last night and I want to go back. If we weren't headed home, I would! Great service from a young man with a good sense of humor, and so much good food I couldn't choose between all of the options. I ended up with a cup (more like a bowl) of the watermelon gazpacho, the wedge salad and the sweet potato fries for the table. The gazpacho was excellent. Nice touch with green onion, no taste overwhelming the others. The salad was very fresh with a combination of iceberg and mixed greens, good quality Blue cheese and just the right amount of bacon. The sweet potato fries managed to be crispy and yet not overly browned. Perfect. I want to go back for the lobster roll or some of the delicious looking burgers! read more

Stoped here for a to go bite. I got the gyro and it was dynamite. It's vegetarian which I never do but ohhh man it was soooo good. My wife had the Ruben and loved it. It wasn't horrible, but also wasn't great. The service was middle of the road, and the food was pretty standard. Given the prices though -- not worth it. In addition to the dishes with pics attached here, we got mac n cheese. For restaurant mac n cheese, it was 2 stars. It was soupy and the flavor was incredibly mild. The wings were fine. The salad was fine, but for $14...? Some lettuce and blue cheese? Gimme a break. read more

This is one of the best restaurants in the North Country. The menu provides plenty of interesting options. The quality of the food is quite good: fish tacos. Pad Thai, veggie burger, to name some of my favorites. The price point is really good, a few bucks cheaper than the restaurants on Main Street. Best of all is the service. Really friendly and informal. read more

I just had the most delicious mahi mahi fish tacos! I wish we found Dack Shack sooner than today! There was a huge amount of fish in this taco-it was busting out! This is unlike another local place which shall not be named. The creme sauce and salsa was so tasty. I will come back and order it again! Hubby had French dip-also said it was a winner! Service was so slow. One staff member brought glasses of water without straws. Then It took a long time to get anyone to come to our table and when she arrived, she asked for our food order and we had to call her back to take our drink orders. The food was sitting up waiting for her to finally bring it to our table. The waitress spent considerable time chatting with a friend at another table. One of the staff members was working in PJ pants!! The ice tea looked milky and had a odd flavor. The food overall was Ok. The bathrooms were not clean. Not a good experience. read more

There are a variety of food options. Not gourmet but very good for the price. Staff is friendly. Casual and fun vibe.

A short distance off the "main" area in Lake Placid, this place has great food in a relaxed atmosphere. When visiting, I wanted a casual place and this was it. Their menu has something for everyone including veg options. I got the summer corn risotto which was fresh with spinach and tomatoes. My friend got the noodle bowl which also was light and "healthy" loaded with veggies. Their ice cream sandwiches / milkshakes were tempting but we were too full to try. The service was fast and our waiter was friendly. read more

So, it used to be that the 'Dack Shack had very good food but the wait was pretty bad. A recent visit suggests those attributes have flipped - food comes quickly, but it's no longer especially good. The dips for onion rings were good, but the onion rings themselves were not - they were overcooked. The grilled salmon that accompanied a Caesar salad was okay, but underseasoned and a little sad looking. And the flavors of a Thai(?) inspired clam dish had unbalanced flavors -- the flavor of the turmeric was so assertive, that was all you could taste I didn't love the old version of the 'Dack Shack, but I definitely preferred it to the current configuration. On the plus side, they do continue to pour a generous drink, an admirable trait... Nevertheless, 3 stars. read more

Honestly, I felt like we arrived at a totally different restaurant than the reviews were talking about. The price was fine, but it was the most mediocre burger I've ever had. It was served dry with tomatoes and lettuce. Oh, I got bacon that was limp and flavorless. I asked for Ketchup, mustard, onions.... took quite a while to get those delivered. And my pet peeve is anytime a restaurant is stingy on sauce. Seriously. I need Ketchup with my fries! Even the porter was a very weak tasting beer. Our waiter was super distracted and I had to flag him down multiple times for....more water...my mustard...oh, my onion... The menu was also not half as interesting as the reviews led me to believe...overall a big disappointment. We really look forward to reading out in a new town.
