    Inside the bakery

Their pastries looked and tasted pretty good. We had +/- raspberry chocolate scone: It was nice and moist, but the texture just too much like cake. My preference for good scones is a balance of a slight snappy and crunchy exterior. +/- bacon and egg croissant: They used a puff pastry instead of a croissant dough. It was very oily and flaky and were very sparse on the bacon + drip coffee: I was actually really impressed by how well it was made and it had a good coffee flavor without tasting too overpowering or burnt. The service was very quick and efficient It's pretty small inside so you might be better off sending a family member to grab all the orders

Sausage and egg croissant sandwich...no joke!!! Delicious

A small quaint little bakery that offers a variety of sweets and eats. Also you get your choice of coffee between light, medium, or dark roast. Today I got the breakfast sandwich/croissant and it was no joke...lol. Delicious!!!

Mini cakes - top shelf $6. Next row down, brownie, lemon bar, cake pop, $3 each. Very delicious flourless chocolate cake so fudgey & rich.

We just got the most delicious giant blueberry scone to go, ate it in a nearby park by the lake, and we were in absolute heaven. So much so that we did the same thing the very next day. I've never had a blueberry scone with whole juicy berries before, my first bite was happiness. We also got a delicious raspberry cheese danish, and a banana walnut muffin. I got a mini flourless cake and a mini chocolate mousse cake to go, they traveled well and were some of the tastiest desserts I've ever had. The flourless cake was so fudgey and dark. If I ever get to Lake Placid again you can bet I will stop there two days in a row, maybe three. Very reasonable prices.

We came here a few times during our trip, mostly for the wife to get her chai latte which she said she got addicted to because it was that good. On our last day, we ended up getting some pastries, which included a blueberry scone, blueberry turnover, a coffee cake muffin and an apple cinnamon muffin. The blueberry scone tasted good with the nice big blueberries in it. The blueberry turnover also tasted amazing with its filling and powder on the outside. The apple cinnamon muffin was good and moist. As for the coffee cake muffin, I thought it was good but the other half thought it was dry. Either way, we would go back if we are ever in the area.

Sour Cream Coffee Cake and a Quadruple Shot Maple Vanilla Almond Latte

Older lady with the white hair was pleasant but the other lady with the brownish hair was grumpy. First impressions especially at 8:30am really does matter -- you're serving a customer his first meal and coffee of the day and know that your tone and demeanor can affect others. Coffee she made was good, I asked for a Quadruple Shot Maple Vanilla Almond Latte. The Sour Cream Coffee Cake was fine too, and my mom seems to like the Spinach & Feta pastry. Maybe it's a Lake Placid culture and they're just fine with that, or maybe it's the mask (?), but part of me is worried that she's not the nicest to customers who are POC. Oh well. ‍

Excellent fresh baked treats and soft breads! The two ladies who own it are always there to bake everything fresh each morning.

Amazing little location with incredible pastries. The bakery itself is very small, however the variety of pastries and desserts is fantastic. I ordered a chocolate and raspberry scone which was sweet with the right amount of both chocolate and raspberry. My boyfriend ordered a cinnamon bun and sausage and cheese pastry which he said were some of the best pastries he's had. The location is a bit hidden, but the pastries will not let you down!! FYI during COVID only one group is allowed in the bakery at a time and they only accept cash/venmo.

Chocolate mousse cake and a chai latte that she let me add cinnamon to.

When we first saw the pseudo-chalet looking building, we were struck by the name "Sugar Shack," immediately thinking of the iconic places you can find in many upper New England states that process maple sap into syrup and also into other sugary yummies. But then we noticed that the name also indicated "Dessert Company" and realized maybe it wasn't just about maple syrup and sweets. So we peeked in the window, looked at the big chalk menu which listed sandwiches, and decided to have our last breakfast here before departing. The interior is as puzzling - in a sense - as our initial impression. Yes, there is a bright display case filled with some delectable and delightful-looking pastries, muffins, donuts, and cookies. But then, there is a slushy machine right inside the door (?), and shelves of souvenirs (maple syrup in a variety of bottles), boxes of pre-packaged, brand-name chocolates and other candy, and chips to accompany your lunch sandwich. A diverse and wide-ranging mix in my mind. Our sandwiches were made on a small griddle like you would find in anyone's home and wrapped in foil for us. (We chose to eat them at one of the two tiny seats - I think there may have been 4 seats - inside, by the window). The sandwiches were fine...but that's about as far as I can go. We saw a "For Sale" sign near the door indicating the business was up for grabs and from all appearances, the person running it now is doing everything in their power to make a go of it. But without creating a more unique and efficient, competitive business, the end may be in sight.

Also, the cappuccinos were from a machine you press and when we went to press the button only water went out. The lady behind the counter added a powder mix that was not cappuccino mix -- it was hot coco mix, not caffeinated espresso and hot steamed milk which is what a cappuccino should be made from! Also, the lady behind the counter was not very pleasant. We were there with three little kids so I felt taken advantage of since I didn't have time to check my receipt instantly. Also, wasn't offered a paper copy.

Late last year we were in town and stopped in the bakery and asked if they'd be willing to do something a little different than the typical wedding cake. We wanted mini-tiramisus for our guests and a big tiramisu for us. Rene was delighted by the request and welcomed the break from all the wedding cakes. She delivered the tiramisus and set-up a beautiful display of them on wood stumps and she brought in some gold heart decor and greenery. We misplaced our cake topper and messaged her the day ofand she improvised by using a heart stencil with the cocoa powder that came out so nice. Our guests were already raving about how amazing the dessert display was and they raved even more after they ate the dessert. Some people were like I don't normally like tiramisu but I love this. and it was SO good. We brought our whole tiramisu (and maybe a few minis as well) back to our hotel and ate it all throughout our wedding weekend. Rene was a pleasure to work with. We had several calls and emails with her. And she listened and really captured what we wanted. From the welcoming "a place upstate" Adirondack chair out front to the cozy, shingle-sided exterior, this spot perfectly captures that rustic, high-peaks aesthetic. But it's the quality of the brew that truly sets it apart. The Espresso The espresso at Capisce is a masterclass in balance. It's rich and full-bodied with a velvety crema that hints at the care put into every pull. You won't find any bitterness here--just a smooth, complex shot that serves as the perfect foundation for their signature drinks. The Lattes Whether you need to warm up after a chilly morning at the lake or cool down after a mountain bike ride, their lattes are top-tier: Hot Lattes: The milk is steamed to a perfect micro-foam consistency--silky, sweet, and light. It blends beautifully with the espresso, creating a comforting drink that feels as artisanal as the surroundings. Iced Lattes: These are exceptionally refreshing. They manage to keep the espresso flavor front and center without letting the milk or ice wash it out. It's the ideal companion for a sunny afternoon on the patio. The Atmosphere There is something uniquely relaxing about grabbing a drink and sitting among the trees and rocks outside this cabin-style shop. It's clearly a favorite for locals and travelers alike, and for good reason--the "upstate" vibe is genuine, and the coffee is world-class. The service is full of happiness. Final Verdict: If you are in the Lake Placid area and take your caffeine seriously, Capisce is the place to be.
