This was our last stop as we were on our way out of Canton/Postdam area. Could not pass up considering the high ratings and rave reviews from other Yelpers. Also looking at their seasonal drinks my wife and I knew we needed to stop in. Plenty of street parking available right nearby so unless they are super busy you should be good. Once you walk in they had a board sign with all the seasonal specials. It was quite a large space with a good amount of seating with some more comfy seating like the couch and then plenty of tables too. Near where you order they have a baked good display with the daily offerings from a I suspect local bakery. They do appear to offer breakfast sandwiches but only on the weekend. Baked goods wise my wife grabbed a blueberry muffin and I grabbed some sort of apple cinnamon roll. Drink wise my wife got their Pumpkin S'more Steamer and I got the Loganberry Cobbler Cold Brew. My cinnamon roll was delicious, while my wife's muffin was not that great and didn't taste that fresh unfortunately. Drink wise both were phenomenal! My wife's even came topped with a homemade marshmallow and my had a great amount of flavor of a fruit that I am not use to seeing (popular in this area though and I can see why). Besides seasonal they also have all the drinks you'd expect from a coffee shop. Absolute no brainer to stop here if you are from the Potsdam area or visiting or even traveling through. If I were local to the area this would be my go to coffee shop! read more

My FAVORITE place to study and write in undergrad! Super kind and friendly baristas and delicious drinks (not just coffee!) I love the plants and natural light in this space, plus the ample seating options and large tables. They also make the BEST chai latte I've ever had! It's the thing I miss most about living in the area. When I visited after a few months away and got one, I took one sip and actually started to try because I'd missed it so much! Super duper recommend Jernabi for anyone looking for a nice place to study, get some work done, or just enjoy a nice drink and maybe even a yummy pastry. Not a good latte. Bought 2 double shot 12 oz lattes, the cup was half full. Asked the barista to add more milk. She added a pre-made brown liquid (not milk). I actually like the coffee and the service better at Jernabi's than its competitor. Sure it does not have the trendy moose head on the wall but I like my lattes HOT. Jernabi's has creative specials like the Golden Milk Latte which adds turmeric, ginger to create a drink that is like chai! There are a lot of big tables to study on or if you just want to enjoy your handcrafted drink, you can sit in the corner by the window. I have been coming to Jernabi for years. I love their coffee and their vanilla lattes. The baked goods are scrumptious and make sure to try the soups, especially the squash, sweet potato or pumpkin bisque. We get their coffee ground for home too. We are especially fond of Dark Star and Black Satin. MMMMmmmmm, to smell it fresh ground in the bag, amazing! The staff are always friendly and helpful. Jernabi is a godsend for Potsdam locals, students, and visitors alike. Located on the banks of the Racquette River, Jernabi offers organic/FT coffee, lattes, baked goods, a soup du jour, and local artisan goods at very reasonable prices. I worked at this mom n' pop coffee parlor for a year before moving to CNY for grad school and since then, the owner has expanded the place to twice its original size! It's the perfect place to stop in and meet with friends, get a java fix, or tap into the free wifi and get some work done. Tim (the owner) also has a knack for hiring cheerful and eclectic baristas. Don't be alarmed that a non-coffee-drinker is writing a review for a coffee shop. Let it be a good sign. This place is awesome - I love that they roast their own coffee beans in-house and it always smells delicious when you go in. My friends give two thumbs up to their coffee's flavor and strength. As for non-coffee beverages, my favorite is their chai lattés, made with my favorite chai concentrate (Oregon Chai). They're very good about creating drinks to your needs, like replacing milk with soy milk. The room is small and narrow but nicely decorated, and they pretty much stick to drinks only, which I'm okay with. It's a nice place to stop into on your walk from Clarkson or when you're downtown and need something to warm you up. read more

I have been buying this delicious coffee for the better part of 7 years. I lived in Northern New York for a short time as my husband was stationed at Fort Drum. They have some limited sidewalk seating when the weather is warm (a few Adirondack chairs) but if they're taken you can always grab your drink and walk down by the river, too. While everywhere else is out of everything you can always rely on them to welcome you with your favorite hot cup of brewed to perfection coffee and a bag of you favorite roast to go with it. Though the quality of the drinks are high, they are often under filled. For the HIGH price that they charge for everything, this can be very annoying. I bought a bag of the "Black Satin" as a Valentine's Day present for my sweetie. We both think it is the best coffee we've ever had--and we are real coffee snobs. My son is a freshman at SUNY Potsdam and we happened to grab some coffee here when he moved into the dorms in August. I had a latte with coconut milk and it was the best I've ever had, the espresso was smooth and didn't taste burnt like the flavor I am accustomed to from my local chain coffee shop here in NYC. The coconut milk was not overly sweet and watery but smooth and silky. It was the perfect cup of coffee. My mother had a cappuccino and loved it as well. Every time we go visit we make sure to stop by. We loved their coffee so much we ordered 4 bags for ourselves and as gifts, and as soon as we received it the smell of freshly roasted coffee surrounded us! Love this place so much. It's a writer's haven except for one thing...the closing time. Why so early? With two colleges right in town, there must be enough business after 7 p.m. to justify staying open later. College students are typically working on papers, etc. all evening and even late into the night. I think Jernabi's is missing that market by closing so early. How about they have a questionnaire at the counter asking the regulars if they'd be interested in a later close time? And do a survey on the campuses of profs and students? read more

I've never been to the coffee shop in Potsdamn. When i lived in Clayton, Ny I got their coffee at River Rat cheese, and feel in love. I now live in Washington and order it online. Fresh to order roasts. There was a mess up on one of orders and I emailed Tim and the problem was fixed right away and he even sent my some free samples.
