I visited this brewery with my mother twice last week on October 2nd and 4th, we had an amazing time both days. We were personally welcomed at our table by a man (who we assume was the owner or manager) and it was five star experience up until we left. We had a great server named Julie (attentive and friendly). To eat we had the maple chicken sandwich with barbecue fries and tempura shrimp with Parmesan fries. My mother really enjoyed her shrimp and my sandwich was incredible!! The Parmesan fries were finger licking good. My mom really enjoyed the craft beer she got as well. On this day there was a live performer (singing and playing the guitar) we had such a good time. On our second day here I ate the same burger but had the Parmesan fries instead (I like them way better than the barbecue ones) and my mother opted for a chicken pesto wrap. On Saturday we got to enjoy our meal outside by the water and the weather was perfect, we left happy customers again. I feel like the prices were reasonable. I can't wait to visit again!! read more

What a great find as we're road tripping home to Ohio from Maine via NY. We love small towns and locally owned places- and Gristmill Brewery delivered! The industrial look of the restaurant is so cool. It's great for a date night or group outing. Our waitress was amazing! She was so friendly and attentive. 10/10 We got hanger steak tips with leek mashed potatoes and carrots. We also got the ny strip and it came with rosemary potatoes and sautéed mushroom and onions. While it is a nice atmosphere the service is a disaster. I hosted a pre-wedding event for my daughter and her fiancé with 60 guests. Their task was to provide us with a meat cheese platter, salad, garlic bread, three pasta dishes and a bartender. The service was an epic fail!! A total embarrassment for me as the host. The food was dropped off in the event space and we were left to fend for ourselves. I had to leave my plate to get cold to go upstairs and ask for more tossed salad three times because we were provided with about enough for a family dinner, (when I asked why it was taking so long as I had guest standing in line at the buffet I was told they had to make more) shortly after that we were out of the pasta dishes as well and the garlic bread was never replenished. I was charged $150 for the meat and cheese platter and it was beyond skimpy. People were rationing the amount of snack they put on their tiny plates and it was still gone quickly. I was mortified but even more so when the owner came up to me while I was trying to eat and argued with me in front of all of my guests because I complained. There were water glasses on the tables, but we were never provided with water. People were going and getting it themselves and no one bussed tables until I complained to the owner. The party space was downstairs and the one defeated, but hard working bartender was tasked to go upstairs to make cocktails and i could only serve beer and wine downstairs. She was absent for most of the first two hours because she was upstairs. Guest would go upstairs and be sent back downstairs to find no bartender. That poor girl worked her tail off meanwhile asking me to let her know if the buffet needed anything because she was also trying to service that alone . I think it was outrageous for the mother of the bride to have to watch and beg for more food on the under served buffet The food tasted good, but I had two tables of guest sit back down because there was nothing on the buffet, and when the staff finally came to replenish it, the owner scolded them stating that everybody had eaten. I'm all about people making money, but for the amount I spent per guest - per plate on pasta and salad there should've been enough to go around. I would not trust them to serve a small children's birthday party. My guests included bar/restaurant owners, caterers, and several servers. They were appalled at the poor service, the way I was treated and the way that one poor server was used and treated. I was mortified and beyond angry!!! They were very particular about placement of our decorations, etc., but overlooked the fact that all the windowsills were filthy, filled with cobwebs and dead bugs. The outside space and tables were covered in dirt, cobwebs and goose droppings where people would be sitting or walking with their nice shoes. We asked to have it cleaned, but ended up doing it ourselves while decorating. NEVER AGAIN!! EXPENSIVE LESSON!! read more

I ordered a rare steak waited almost 40 min for it to arrive well done sent it back because it wasn't what I ordered and 20 min later got my second steak also overcooked. So i first ate here Sunday evening. Had a nice meal and coupe beers and i wanted to bring my Tram back here for dinner one night . I was genuinely excited to bring them here Made a reservation for Thursday night 8 people. Started off well. Beers flowed. Ordered Aps ....and they came out .... very late and w/o plates. Waitress did a "dump and go" never came back. Had to get our own plates. Aps were good we were ready to place our dinner orders amd 20 Minutes later ...waitress shows up. We have been watching her take care of all the other tables ...there were three...but treated us like we were hot garbage. Finally ordered dinner and it expedited fairly quickly ..we were the only table left w/o food.... and when delivered it was wrong temps , missing sides etc. and the app plates were never cleared..we dis that ourselves. The bad experience was 100% the waitresses fault. I could name her but i choose to not do so. She took care of all the other tables and left is to wither. Poor and i will be reticent to take my team back after this experience. read more

The Gristmill Brewery offers a friendly, trendy atmosphere and top-notch food and that is reasonably priced, especially considering the unique menu selections, their up-scale presentations and their ample portions. Everyone we encountered, from the greeter, to the wait staff, to the owners were pleasant, relaxed and seemingly happy doing what they're doing. That 'good feeling' trickles down to those they serve -- the end result is more than just a meal we didn't have to cook ourselves: it was a complete dining experience that I look forward to repeating. And what fun having a brewery on location, offering original and somewhat exotic libations. The Gristmill Brewery is exactly the type of restaurant/lounge that the Massena area needed -- fabulous food, delicious drafts, and a picturesque setting that combines for an evening that transports you to a special place. I like the menu, it's small but has good variety. Wait staff was inattentive. Took our drink order. 20 minutes later, the bar tender came out with drinks trying to find the waitress and who ordered them. After delivering our cold food, spilled a glass of wine on us. Don't listen to that negative review about being "overpriced". That person obviously doesn't get out much to know all places have to charge what they do to make a profit. It isn't 1990 anymore! Haha. That being said they are a great little brewery located right on the water. They serve some very delicious, innovated cuisine! Dog owners don't bother to visit. Didn't think to call ahead as most breweries /rstaurants with outdoor dining permit dogs. Oh well. Drove up specifically to Massena/St. Lawrence River to see the area and take in the sights. So much for wanting visitor dollars. read more

The food is pretty good, but like all restaurants in Massena it is over priced. The beer isn't really that good at all. Bar staff is horrible. read more
