    Shrimp with Broccoli lunch special

My barber recommended me to this place & I'm thoroughly impressed with the Food, customer service & the overall Ambiance of the location. I highly recommend this place to anyone in the area who wants good food

I was in the mood for Chinese carryout and I always drive past this place, so I decided to give them a try. I ordered General Tsao Chicken and steamed veggies with brown sauce on the side. Once I ordered, the gentleman asked if it was my first time there and new to the neighborhood? I responded yes to both questions and he said, Welcome! And gave me two candy mints. That gesture was so kind. The atmosphere is very casual, just like the sign outside says, "casual dining". The other aspect that leads me to give 5 stars, I observed a guy ordering food and his English was sorta choppy. The gentleman that worked there was so patient and respectful to the customer, it warmed my heart. The food was what I expected and delish. I'm glad I found my neighborhood carryout for Chinese food! I will be back to try other items on the menu. Very nice and polite service.

Ordered catering for my son's end of the season soccer team party and the food came hot and fresh. They were very polite and accommodating to all requests would highly recommend ordering from them again!

Szechuan Beef with two huge scopes of rice

I've passed this establishment on a daily basis for years. Tonight I stop and ordered a Szechuan beef and vegetable fried rice. The portions are large and I paid around $21 for both which was very fair. Both dishes were very good and I enjoyed them at home. You go here for take out and you look past the aged decor and the not so clean tables. Not clean. From a distance the kitchen looked on. I'll see how I feel later. So far it been a good dining experience.

I know people don't usually give places more than a three and I can't give it a five but it's one of the best Chinese food places here. (And I eat a lot of Chinese food!) The food is great! From the fried dumplings (attached is a pic), to the beef and broccoli (my son's favorite), to the combination lo mein! It's all good. I can't actually rate the seafood as I am allergic to shellfish, but it looks delicious just like the beef and poultry dishes. The only reason I don't give it 5 Stars is because of the ladies at the register. I am doing you a favor by coming to eat and spending my money at your restaurant- don't treat me like a second class citizen. In the very least you could smile and say hi. Plus in the US most people will respond back the same way you treat them....

After searching for a cheap Chinese Restaurant in Merrifield, I came across Oriental Garden. I looked at the menu listed on Yelp (as the restaurant doesn't appear to have a website), and ordered accordingly. BEWARE- the current menu on Yelp is NOT CORRECT. I have notified them and posted pictures of the actual menu. For pickup I ordered sweet and sour chicken, an egg roll and hot and sour soup. There was a bit of an issue with communication on the phone, when I asked how much it cost to ad soup, the gentleman replied "thank you". I repeated it a few times and then we got it cleared up. The portion sizes are pretty large. The Sweet and Sour Chicken was good, nothing special, but not bad. Nice, large pieces of chicken with perhaps too much breading, but that seems normal. This was served with carrots, peppers, and pineapple, steamed rice, and a large side of sweet and sour sauce (the sauce was a bit runny and lacked any kick). The egg roll was nice and crispy and tasted like you would expect an egg roll to taste. The hot and sour soup, was a bit bland, but it had a good amount of mushrooms tofu, and egg, which I love. All in all a pretty good meal, but since I was expecting to pay $4.95 in accordance with the Yelp menu, I was bummed that it ended up costing $10.45. For less than $5 it would have been an AWESOME deal, but for $10, it was fine.

Been eating here since early 1990's. Always consistent good food. Prices reasonable as well. Highly recommended.

We ordered the egg drop soup, crispy beef (perfect texture with sweet sauce), and shrimp fried rice (so filling and delicious)! We will surely be back when we're in town, and can't wait to try their noodle dishes and wontons. Super delicious spot for takeout or sit down dining.

The place itself is quite small for dine in, but I'm pretty sure that's not their target so we were able to get a seat for 2 pretty easily on a Friday evening. We got mostly "ABC" comfort foods - orange chicken, Yangzhou fried rice, Singapore rice noodles - and an order of their dumplings in spicy sauce (a bit surprising as it's a more northern China style compared to the rest of menu). It was definitely a bit much for just 2 of us but we intended to take home leftovers. All of it was delicious, cooked to spec, but what really makes them stand out is their superior "wok-hei"; it is the soul of wok-style dishes and compliments to the chef(s) - they absolutely know their craft and it shines in the flavor. This craftsmanship is lost in the new generation and it's a real treat to see it preserved here out of all places. Dumplings were splendid. Juicy and handmade, definitely hits that nostalgic nook from the back of your head. tldr; charming Chinese takeout spot with superb wok-hei in their dishes

I had the szechuan beef noodle soup - the beef was tender alongside its tasty noodles and savoury broth. The scallion pancakes were solid and crunchy. The place was filling up and the ambiance reminds me of a traditional bustling noodle house - perfect for the cold snap we were experiencing at the time. We got hot and sour noodle soup, sichuan beef noodle soup, and an order of their pork soup dumplings. Portions are generous and prices are fair, it's easy to become a regular here if you live nearby. The hot and sour noodle soup is as advertised - just enough spice to complement the sour, but not overwhelm to make it feel like mala. It's served, as expected, with glass noodles, some bak choi, and some pork slices. Nothing spectacular but par for the course. The sichuan beef noodle foon soup was slight notch better. The broth gives really warm vibe and you can tell it's been brothing for a long time. Again just the right amount of spicy to make you keep slurping for more. The noodles were average, chewy, but not bouncy. Also comes with a healthy amount beef slices and bak choi. Again - a great noodle soup bowl but nothing jaw dropping. Soup dumplings were fantastic, however. The pork definitely has its own marinade and the soup is flavorful. The dumpling skin is well constructed and complemented well with the noodle soups - especially in cold weather. tldr; solid noodle soup spot, they seem to be consistent and really hits the mark when you're in a for your noodle fix. Soup dumplings are probably a must get side dish with whatever your main is

Every bite had that perfect balance of soup, pork filling, and ginger-vinegar flavor that makes xlb so satisfying. The sizzling beef was easily one of the standouts of the night. It arrived still crackling on the plate, tender and packed with smoky, slightly sweet flavor. The tofu shrimp dish was another surprise favorite -- light but comforting, with silky tofu and perfectly cooked shrimp that paired really well together. For something more classic, the chicken and string beans hit the mark. The chicken was juicy, the string beans stayed crisp, and the garlic sauce tied everything together without overpowering the dish. To top it all off, the restaurant brought out dessert for my brother's birthday, which made the night feel extra thoughtful and memorable. Between the food, generous portions, and warm atmosphere, Chef Yan turned a simple dinner into a great celebration meal. Definitely a spot worth coming back to.
