I didn't have a particularly good experience visiting this restaurant. While I wasn't expecting a five star meal from an asian food buffet, I WAS expecting to find at least a few things that I would want to eat. The food overall was greasy and not fresh, which was surprising for a restaurant on a Friday night. This place has your standard array of fried seafood dishes, plus a few "sushi" options, soup, and salad items. Why did this restaurant get two stars if I knew that the food was going to be bad ahead of time? Why did I even go in the first place? On their website, they advertise that they have crab legs. Literally, it's the second item listed on their home page, and they advertise their evening buffet as the seafood dinner, which leads one to believe that they would have a variety of seafood, crab included. When we arrived, there were NO crab legs, and when I asked the waiter about it he said that they didn't have them every night. When I asked him what nights they DID have it, he couldn't answer me. I had to make due with soggy flounder (how does that even happen?), chow mein, and rice. Definitely not worth the 10.95 per person. read more

I am gonna keep it short and simple. I was thrown off since our "server' gave me a really bad look everytime she had to come back to our table to clean the plates. The variety of food here was amazing. Everything you would expect from a traditional oriental buffet, and then some good surprises! We ate here after a long day of driving and picked it because it was close to our hotel. The prices were reasonable and I liked the vegetarian options that seemed to be plentiful here. Okay if you really don't want to cook. Problem is, the quality has gone down since its opening several years ago. I also don't think everything is heated to a high enough temp to kill bacteria. Have gotten the 'ritas' a few times from eating here. The other issue I have is their sushi. Since when do you serve raw fresh water fish? Tilapia is not meant to be served raw! I think the staff are wonderful and really nice but the food is suffering from the economy. read more

It's probably one of the better Chinese restaurants in Humboldt. My family and I go here a lot when we have lunch together.

Food taste great although super greasy made us feel funny but maybe it's cause we ate so much. Price wasn't bad for the selection. Service was pointless almost but what do you expect from a buffet. I would eat there again for sure read more

My husband and I decided to drive to Arcata to try oriental buffet, so it's a drive from eureka , Turns out I wished we never had made that drive, it was so horrible, first you walk in the door and some lady rudely yells across the dinning room "HOW MANY" ! (in the rudest way ever) so we say 2 and as we are walking up to her she says (once again rudely) "YOU WANT DRINK OR NO"?! by this time I'm shocked at her customer service but was willing to just not tip and be ok with it...but turns out the food is gross, it was old and tasteless I took one bite of 4 things I had on my plate and they all tasted like leftovers from last night, so I couldn't eat it and asked for it to be taken off the bill, she rudely said she would ask the manager. well she took it off but would glare at me from across the room thinking I was eating off my husbands plate ( lady I make more a month then you do a year) I couldn't take it anymore and walked out before I told her a thing or two...freaking gross, they must survive off the high college students. read more

NOT A BUFETT! DONT PAY for rude service! the service is horrible and this place shouldn't consider themselves a buffet. I went with my boyfriend to eat and this played out: I grab my plate (this is my first plate i must add). I grab my food and on the way to my seat i feel someone walking behind me. When i sat down i realize that its one of the lady workers, she literally chased me to my seat to tell me that i was NOT allowed to grab an item in their "buffet" ( i think it was the pineapple shrimp), she stated that what i payed for was only limited to certain items, i then tell her that she can charge me for whatever "buffet" deal that will cover all items, (keep in mind that we hadn't even payed as u pay on ur way out) she then proceeds to tell me that i can keep my plate as long as its my last plate, i cant get anything else. As i stated i had just arrived, and it was my first plate, it wasn't full as i like to eat slow and enjoy my food so i never overfill my plate, i don't like to wasting any food i might not eat. At this point everyone in the restaurant was looking at me as i had done something wrong, because of the way and tone she was speaking to me. Holy. Friggin. Tao. This place is the best Asian buffet I've ever eaten at. Now, I'm comparing it to other Asian buffets. And this one takes the cake. They make their own sushi, California rolls, sometimes sashimi, and have a make-your-own stir-fry bar with cook on duty to fry it up right on the spot. All buffet items are a tasty Asian fusion with most genres represented. Recommend the crab puffs, chicken-on-a-stick, pineapple chicken, and their beef broccoli is solid. Dessert bar, tea service at table,and a friendly and attentive wait staff round out their list of kudos. If you like Asian buffets, this is the one. Both locations are, and this is no exaggeration, in regards to both decor and quality quite literally identical. read more

Only two stars because even though the food was good, their service is horrible. All of their servers are extremely rude and make you feel very unwelcome. And it is not just on one visit. It has happened every single time i have come in. I have given up trying to be nice and don't even talk to the servers anymore because my "thank you"s were answered with some bitchy, half added "you're welcome" as they slinky away to another corner of the restaurant. read more

We ate with a friend. All of us are sure this is the best "Chinese Buffet" we've ever been to. Everything hot, your used plates removed immediately, option for Mongolian grill, minimal breading on shrimp or sweet-sour chicken, etc. Egg rolls are not soggy. Price is on low end. Nice atmosphere. Good variety of choices. Someone wipes off the serving bar almost immediately when you go to the next section. Would return anytime we are near. read more

The food was average and the place was very pack for just being average. The temp of the food seemed kind of cold , maybe it was due to it being outside for such a long period. The Mongolian food was great they make it right in front of you. Be careful with the rude lady who makes it she will give you dirty looks if you don't tip her.. My buddy and I were staying at the Motel 6 right across the street and decided to have dinner here. I tried a little of almost everything and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food here (I'm Chinese BTW). They had plenty of dishes out and I didn't come across anything that I wouldn't try again. Yes the food is Americanized but nobody should be coming to Arcata looking for authentic Chinese food so adjust your standards please. Staff was friendly enough and our empty plates were collected in a reasonable amount of time. We quickly had our fill and were in and out before we knew it. Not a bad deal for $12/person. read more

I have only been here for take out, but I have done this a dozen times. Where can you get baked salmon for $4.75 a pound? Pot stickers, chowmein, fried rice, several kinds of chicken, vegetables on and on. It's not the best but it is fresh, hot and fast. I like this place and will continue to eat here. I hate to give low scores but they deserve it. I swore that I would never go into this place again 5yrs ago but I was dragged in by a friend. Whaa laa...........the choices of food was the same. plenty of variety and you can go back for more. Well, I piled my food onto the little plate and sat to eat and drink a beer. I love shrimp but this stuff was made from frozen. I had the green beans which are my fav , some rice, some pork on a stick, won ton, and some other things. I was once again disappointed in the food as 95% of it was cold. All the food was bland. not a hint of any flavor. The Sapporo beer was good. I will never go back again and my friend wont either even after he praised it so much and talked me into going. I was shocked at the price and told the cashier that $13 for one plate was outrageous. she said that I could go back for more, Ha. People who think this food is good or terrific have no food standards . There were a lot of huge people there and were going back sometimes 4 times and not counting the desserts. I few low lifes and odd looking people. The place seems clean as usual and the bathrooms are clean, comfortable seating, clean tables, not too noisy. Not much for service as I had to ask for water twice. the help and workers are not friendly at all just like robots. Went here with a large party. The servers were so kind and accommodating. The food however, well lets just say theres lots of variety but mediocre at best. The sushi was just okay. The fried shrimp was tolerable. Possibly supplied by the dollar tree next door? The cold shrimp was tough and the crab.....lets just say " No thanks" The fried eggrolls were hopeful, until I bit into a mushy paste filled tube of bland substance. All I could think was "What the heck happened to these??" I was excited when i saw the fried zucchini. I doused them with salt but even at that, they were bland oil soaked sponges, dissapointered yet again. The fried donuts were all the rage at first sight..Then once again disappointed faces. Even my Alzheimer mother in law said "Where's the filling for this???" I concluded with a small bowl of "ice milk" pretending to be ice cream and a Yummy creme puff. I was visiting from out of town, and I saw a sign off the 101, so I decided to investigate. First off, I'm a sucker for these types of places (Chinese Buffets), so my experience is fairly broad. The restaurant was very clean, the staff was friendly, and the service was prompt. They had probably 40 or so dishes including a station where sushi was being prepared right in front of you. They had the usual salad & dessert bar complete with an ice cream machine. I tried several dishes and soups, and every thing was hot and fresh. The food quality was decent to, but this is no PF Changs by any means. Much to my surprise, this place was packed on a cold foggy WEDNESDAY night. All in all, if you want to try several different dishes and your in the mood for Chinese, this place isn't bad. Minus one point for a buffet. read more

Been here several times. It's not high end food or the best quality food, but they have some good selection. If you are looking for good seafood or sushi, this wouldn't be the place. I wouldn't trust any raw fish/seafood from here. Chinese donuts are good. When they bring fresh food out, they just mix it in with the old food that has been sitting out. What bugs me, is that there servers stand really close by and stare in your area while you eat. Taking food to go comes out to be as much as eating in, better to get money worth by eating in. MY 9 year old son and I went there two weeks ago, it was clean and lots of food to choose from. The bad things are the service. They don't attend to you that much at all. the food should be at temp and is NOT. So don't get upset when your stomach hurts. the cook hates to work and you have to leave a tip or they treat you like your not going to pay at all. before you are done eating they bring you the bill with a intent to leave. kind of rude. read more

We were traveling through Arcata on our way to the Bay Area and needed a place to eat. With three hungry kids (one being a screaming toddler) we were desperate for fast food, but not gross or unhealthy food. We were feeling the effects of road trip fast food and needed a healthier, but affordable alternative. After giving the buffet a try, we were pleasantly surprised! I was expecting your typical sub-par, Americanized "Chinese" food, especially in this part of the woods, but it was mostly legit and far, far better than a Panda Express. Being an Asian-American from Southern Cal, I can give my own personal positive recommendation. The place is noticeably clean for a buffet, there are tons of tasty and healthy options, lots of variety (even basic sushi and Mongolian BBQ), and the staff is very friendly. My wife and I were so pleased and surprised that we are going back one more night. Quick, healthier food at $38 for a family of five can't be beat. Everyone was happy! read more

We have eaten here many times in the past and have never been disappointed. Last night, however, we were nothing but disappointed. The steam tables were not hot enough and the food was all luke warm and definately not up to a holding temperature of 145 degrees. The hot and sour soup was not right and we couldn't eat it. It had plenty of bamboo shoots and that's about it. It was very dark in color and was off flavored. When the server saw that we didn't eat it, he notified the manager who came to our table and argued with us saying that nothing was wrong with it.. We didn't ask to speak to anyone and we thought that was obnoxious. We know what is good and what is not and if we choose not to eat something, we don't need to explain it to anyone especially if what we said was denied. This used to be a pretty good buffet albiet a buffet. We will not eat at this restaurant again. We'll take the time and drive to Chin's in Eureka. We've not been disappointed there. read more

Is there a manual somewhere on how to open an Oriental buffet, because this one is exactly like the one near my home in Grass Valley. If you eat at these kinds of places regularly, you will get exactly what you expect. I'm a vegetarian, so I got lo mein, fried rice, the fried appetizers that were meatless, some string beans, that kind of thing. I was really hungry after a long hike, so I didn't mind that much that not all the food was that fresh, as is often the case with a big buffet. They could turn over the dishes more often, but then they have to waste food. Decor was fine. I wouldn't want to have my wedding there or anything, but fine. They have the usual desserts--soft serve and little cookies and pastries. I got the worst fortune ever in my cookie, though. It was something about having too many vices. I don't like it when my fortunes are too judgmental. Over all, this place didn't blow my mind, but I got exactly what I was expecting and didn't go home hungry. read more
