We were on our way back from the white mountains, looked for a Chinese restaurant, this one has the best yelp rating. Very good decision as they had a buy one get one free on their sushi. We had the sizzler as well and a beef lomaine for the young one, no mistakes, sushi did come a bit later but quality of everything was high. Also very cozy and comfortable seating. Well done! Objectively the best general Gao style tofu/bean curd in the immediate area. Other restaurants tend to serve it with bland tofu cubes but they put effort into either buying or making tofu cubes that are seasoned and breaded in a way to actual general Gao chicken. They are also pretty quick and friendly, even with large tables and managing the general pains that come with large tables (separate checks, etc.) as I've gone to meetings with a dozen other people. Pricing is usually very good and n bet spend more than $15 on a meal that fills me up and then also gives me leftovers for later. read more

We ordered a full dinner for 6 to go. Our food was ready when we arrived. It was SO good. The miso soup was subtle and delicious. We got an order of egg roll which my husband particularly liked. The sushi was great. The sashimi was a little bland but, hey, that's what Wasabi is for! Nice food! read more

I have only gone for the buffet which is pretty good and well priced. I've been there about 8 times this year. Maybe I eat too much because they seem to make up the difference in the drinks. It seems like the drinks are just fruit juice. The food is still good but maybe I'll just get 1 Mai Tai instead of 2. read more

By far the freshest sushi in this area. The food is always phenomanal. I usually order off the menu but had the buffet once and it was really good. Went there on a Friday night in September. Some of the party had Chinese, some sushi. The Chinese food was decent, but not outstanding. Sadly, the sushi was virtually taste-free. I ordered lunch menu takeout on New Year's Eve afternoon - Pork Lo Mein and General Gau's chicken, which is one of my favorite dishes. Unbelievably disappointed given previous reviews - the food was bland, General Gau's had no 'heat' and no flavor, really, the Lo Mein was greasy and plain, and one of the appetizers, egg roll, was missing. I understand they were busy but that shouldn't affect the quality of the food. Will be driving to Exeter to my old favorite from now on. read more

It's New Years Eve, we ordered our food at 2 pm for a 5:30 pick-up. I left there at 8:00 pm with no food! They kept saying the food would be right out! Talk to the other 65 people who were waiting for their orders.....the phone kept ringing and they kept taking orders! This was definitely our last visit to Orient Pearl. When they first opened we thought they were great and enjoyed the takeout and sitting at the sushi bar. At that time I would have given them 5 stars and we've recommended this place to many people. No more and never again. Tonight we decided to dine-in and it was not a good experience. The waiter either would not or was not capable of telling me what beers they had available. We asked him to come back while we decided on our drinks. When he came back we managed to guess a beer they had and ordered it. When he returned he promptly slammed the plates and our beers on the table and ran away. When he came back and took our dinner order instead of asking for our menus he held his hand impatiently over the table. The food came quickly at least. The seaweed salad was decent though a bit off. The pad thai was very good with nice thai basil and shrimp done just right. The sushi, always the highlight for us, was mediocre at best. The spicy tuna was good but the caterpillar roll was dry and tasteless. It was nowhere near as good as we've had before. It's rate the Market Basket sushi down the road better than this. Once the food came we never saw the waiter again despite our empty beer glasses. We tried to flag down two different people to order water and the first of the two actually looked at my wife then looked and walked away refusing to stop. After the meal was done our waiter reappeared and we just asked for some waters and the check. We eventually got the check and one glass of water -- not two -- one glass. Then the next waiting game began as we waited for him to come back and take the bill with our credit card. This time, we weren't avoided and a woman was kind enough to take it. Then we waited some more for the check to come back with the slip. By that time all we wanted was out of there. Looking around, you could see other tables in distress, people getting frustrated, etc. What should have been a nice night out, taking advantage of the rare occasion someone was watching the kids, was nothing but. On our way out we saw one of our neighbors sitting waiting for his take he'd "ordered a long time ago" wondering where his food was. A great place has gone way down hill. On Friday, September 21, we called Orient Pearl at 8:45pm and asked them if they could take a large party for dinner that night. They told us they could. When we arrived at 9pm, after a memorial service we were seated in the middle on a raised platform. When the waiter finally arrived at our table, he was very rude and impatient when we were ordering, not to mention very disrespectful. A real warm and fuzzy feeling when coming from burying a loved one. He was so impatient he kicked over an empty chair quite intentionally and also kicked my chair when he walked by. My sister went to use the ladies room and forgot about the raised platform (no watch your step sign) and fell. After she fell servers walked by her while she was on the ground, but ignored her. This is appalling!!!! Thank goodness the people sitting near where she fell were kind enough to help her up. My sister wound up with lacerations on both knees. When the waiter returned with our food he slammed the plates down like we were a major inconvenience to him. Boy now that's customer service!! Around 10pm the waiter came back with two handfuls of fortune cookies and threw one handful down the end of the table and the other handful he threw at the front of the table. Thinking maybe we were holding them up from closing and that was causing the bad attitude, I asked what time they closed. His reply was 11pm. My reply to that was good so we have another hour to order more fortune cookies. At this time the waiter gave me a smug look and turned around and ignored me. I went to the manager and told him about the evenings events at his restaurant. He really didn't say much of anything. I also mentioned that I have dined there over a dozen times in the past and if this is the way I can expect to be treated at the Orient Pearl that this will be the last time I ever set foot in such a rude, unprofessional and disrespectful place of business. Their slogan should be "Come on down to the Orient Pearl, we have several different ways to make sure you leave injured. This took place almost a week ago and I am just now sending this review, because I was so upset at the way we were treated. I can understand a party of 8 can be a bit much, but even Burger King can do a better job. Here's a suggestion, if you don't want people coming in at 9pm, then close at 5pm. Or if it is too much of a burden on your wait staff, stop serving at 6pm so the servers can be out by 11pm. The servers seem to act like that's what they want anyway. Excellent food! Went on a Friday night at 6 pm. Restaurant was extremely busy both seated and for take out. Plenty of help, rushing as best they could. It was almost 45 minutes from the time we arrived until we got our meals, but with the full house, this was understandable. I had the Beef with pea pods and black mushroom. It was excellent - the best I've ever had. I also had the Vegetable Lo Mein which was also the best I've had. My wife had the Chicken Pad Thai - it too was excellent. I have nothing but good things to say about this place. We certainly will be back. I'm anxious to try the lunch buffet. read more

We visited the Orient Pearl on a hot summer day this July 4th week-end. We were surprised to find such a large Asian restaurant in this town. But boy, was this the worst sushi ever! We ordered two spider rolls (with soft shell crab) and a fancy roll. The soft shell crab smelled so bad, we could not eat the rolls. We did not even want to take it "to go", it was so disgusting. The Fancy roll: we ordered it to "take out", hoping to eat it in the car as we drove back home. When I put a piece of it in my mouth, the only reason I did not spit it out was because we were in the car! I think they also mixed up our order, so instead of the fancy roll, they gave us a roll with spicy salmon inside and yellow tail (?) on the outside -- the fish looked pale, worn out and smelled unfresh! I am surprised I am still alive after eating a piece of that roll! I used to live in Boston and was addicted to sushi; I ate it every day for several years. Sushi is absolutely one of my favorite foods. NEVER have I had something so un-fresh and disgusting as what they served us at this restaurant. I am writing this review very saddened by the fact that such terrible food is served to the public here and it passes! It was not just "less thanfresh" -- it was disgusting. Orient Pearl used to be our favorite Chinese restaurant in the area. Nice, clean restaurant and the food was fresh. Things have changed. We took in the lunch buffet one Saturday arriving around 12:45. Many of the food trays were almost empty so we grabbed some rice and a few appetizers and sat down to eat assuming (you know the drill) that there would be more the next time we went up. No such luck. Same lack of food. There were 4 employees sitting at a table folding napkins and a couple of other employees standing around watching the bar TV. I asked and was told that more would be coming out. A couple of food items were added but there was still a bunch of old food sitting there. When the bill came I asked the waitress why there was so little food at the buffet. She looked at her watch and said, "Well it's 1:30 and the buffet is almost closed ... you gotta come early when there's more food". I explained that we got here at 12:45 and the buffet is offered until 2. She said that I should have asked for more food like the other people did (which I had). Unbelievable. After 2 months we decided to give it another try yesterday but this time we just got takeout. We called it in at 1130 AM and picked it up 15 minutes later. When we got home we were again not impressed. The rice was somewhat crunchy and tasted like yesterday's rice, the chicken fingers were luke warm, and the spicy beef wasn't so spicy and was lacking in beef. I believe this was our last trip to Orient Pearl unless there are drastic changes in the future.
